lost adminstrator password in window xp professional

Q: lost adminstrator password in window xp professional

I forgot my administrator password and can only log into guest. When I log into I can't do anything because access is denied. Do I need to install the operating system again? Even booting in safe mode required a password for the administrator.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Unless there is no password- you often see the password prompt box, but there is no password, so just try pressing the Enter key to log on.

It's not clear to me, whether you mean a personal user account at Admin level......or, the actual Administrator account. These are two different accounts.....

There is no other help except this from Microsoft, >> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321305

If there actually was a typed password, and you have forgotten it, there is nothing we can help you with because that is a violation of our terms of use for this site. I have to Close your thread.

Hello, and Welcome

Is this a standard username and password for a Windows account? If you tap F8 for safe mode, you will see another account called Administrator. There is no password for the Administrator account unless one was added.

I am having trouble getting my computer to boot up correctly. I have been directed to an article that shows how to fix the problem using Recovery Console from my XP Pro upgrade disk. Anyway, to get into the recovery console, it first asks me to enter my administrator password. I honestly don't remember ever having an administrator password!? I tried just hitting enter, but that didn't work. Is there a default password that can be used or a way for me to reset the password, or am I basically out of luck? Thanks for any advice!

Hi kyndra95, and welcome to TSG.

If you get the password request when the computer is first turned on, check your computer's/motherboard's owner's manual to see if their is a way to clear the password.

If you get the password request as part of the Windows start up, site rules prohibit assisting with circumventing or removing this request.

Hi,

having great difficulty at the moment, would be obliged and very grateful if any one able to assist.
Am running a laptop using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1. Problem surrounds the fact that while using an administrator account, some programs I try to control react by reporting that I am not allowed to control the program as I do not have administrators status. An example from one program is thus " you don't have required privelage to use this feature. Please try running application as administrator " I have followed all advice by creating several accounts as administrator status etc etc but nothing seems to work. One bit of advice I have received suggests that because I am using 7 Home premium nothing will work at all.

I've split you off into your own post.

Can you boot into Safe Mode and access the actual Administrator account? If so then just change/remove the password for the account you are locked out off. You can actually do that from any account that has administrative control.

Hi,

My neighour has a computer which a local technician setup for her. In doing so, the techie made himself the Administrator and set a password. My neigbour moved from that area some 6 months ago and no longer has contact with the technician, can't find his 'phone number and was never given the password.

Is there any way I can reset the Administrator password and give my neigbour full title and control over her own computer? I am trying to help her with the removal of spyware and I am beginning to think that I can't acheive complete success without administrator priviledges.

I know it's probably a bit naughty asking this but any help would be gratefully received.

My thanks, in advance.

Andy

A:Resetting Adminstrator Password

That's a tough one there. Do not think this forum supports that kind of information.
Now I suppose I am considered a local techie in my neighborhood, and if I set up a computer for someone other than myself I most definately would not set a password and I would make the user the admininstrator.

Anything else you want to add to this story?

Hi, Unfortunately the hashing routine for any codes that start with a 'i' have changed, so at the moment your options are down to Contacting HP support. or You can still remove a power on password by removing the rtc cell, then holding down the power button for 60 seconds before re-inserting the rtc - the procedure for removing the rtc can be found on Page 39 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.  Unfortunately the rtc is on the wrong side of the system board so will require quite a lot of disassembly. Regards, DP-K

I am trying (once again) to help my sister with her Vista machine. We are dealing with two problems. First of all, the Administrator account has a password set that she does not know, and her personal account does not have Administrative privilege. Is there a way to reset the Administrator password? I am trying to save her some money, so if there is "free" software, that would sure help. Second, I need to reinstall her HP printer driver and Vista prevents getting to the necessary files. That should not be a problem with Administrative privileges ... Thanks ...

Hey, this topic is shakey in forums... i'm not sure wether i can help you or not, because it can be used to break into admin accounts on non admin accounts... It can be done via the command line but you'll have to research that yourself, can you run a command prompt in a non admin account?

Hi Everyone, Really hope someone can help me as im going bald from tearing my hair out.

My laptop has died, but as i have virtually everything saved on an external hard drive I thought I could just use my daughters laptop until I get chance to go out and get myself a replacement.

My daughters laptop has me as an admin, and my daughter as a user, mainly so I could have parental controls on it. I've not had need to use hers in ages. I wanted to install the wireless printer on her laptop so I could print out my work, but when it asked me for administrator password, and when i entered it and it said it had expired, then I started to have problems.

I've searched online and tried all the solutions i've come across so far (changing date back, trying to run as admin and changing passwords to unlimited, turn off password required etc etc etc), but at every stage it asks me for the password, however, as the password has expired, it wont accept what I enter. So at the moment I currently have two defunct laptops....mine that is totally kapput and my daughters which, although working perfectly, it not much use as I cant print anything, alter her status to admin, or open a new user account!

If anyone can give me any help whatsoever, bearing in mind that im not totally computer literate so need basic instructions, i'll be sooooo grateful!

Many thanks, in advance,
Sam

A:Windows 7 Home Premium Adminstrator Password Expiry

Hello Sam, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Changing the password for the account should stop the warning message.User Account Password - Change
Afterwards, you could disable password expiration if you like. Since the computer has Windows 7 Home Premium installed on it, you'll need to use OPTION TWO below instead.Password Expiration - Enable or Disable
Hope this helps for now,

Windows XP 32-bit will recognize and use a maximum of about 3.25 GB of RAM.

Windows XP 64-bit will recognize and use more than 4 GB of RAM.

Unless you plan to install it in a computer that has and needs more than 4 GB of RAM, use the 32-bit version.

You may also run into a problem with installing and using certain programs with the 64-bit version.

I am at work and my question is for the computer at home. I have reformat my harddrive and try to install win. xp professional on the computer. Turn on the computer and i am in dos mode. I put in the win. xp professional disk in the cd rom to install. The computer then goes installing, it starts by going to the xp setup screen, ask a few questions like Fats 32 and copywrite agreements and such. It would not go into the actual installation of the xp installation program where it would ask for a disk code. After the xp setup program, it then ask to restart my computer, which i did. After the restart it would ask to "press a key for cd-rom boot" and i did, then it would go into the xp setup screen again and the whole xp setup process would starts over again and then it would ask to be reboot again. Now during the beginning of restarting the computer, if i didn't press a key at that point of time when it was asking "press any key to boot from cd-rom", then it would give me this promt "NTLDR is missing press any key to restart". I then would press a key but it would not restart but the same prompt "NTLDR is missing press any key to restart" would appear again. I cannot do anyting at this point and have to mannually turn off the computer. I don't know what to do now?

Please help
thanks

A:need help in installing window xp professional

NTLDR is missing press any key to restart, your getting this error because there is a cd in the drive and it's looking for NTLDR file, which appears not to be on it. (strange)

go to www.bootdisk.com and download the six floppies for xp. Put the first one in your puter, and restart, run through all six, and then continue the set up process with the cd.

you said you reformatted the hard drive? I believe you have to set the partition first, then format. XP should do this for you, try the boot disks, and let us know if it works.

Burn the ISO your friend gave to a CD using Nero or something (make sure you write it with the image burning option). The code on the computer may require an OEM disk rather than a retail disk though not sure which your ISO would be, it's retail probably.

I have Windows XP and I have Office Professional 2003. I downloaded the Trial 2007 Office Pro from Microsoft's website, but after trying decided I really didn't like it so I uninstalled it. Even before I unistalled when ever I opened a 2003 application the Windows installer would pop up. Now that I have uninstalled 2007, my 2003 won't open, it is like it isn't there (although I went to the control panel and it was there). The Windows Installer pops up no matter what I try to do, even logging on to the internet.

I went into the control panel where you can add and remove programs and 2003 is still there. I tried restoring back to a previous date, but that wouldn't work.

Can anyone tell me how to get the Installer to stop popping up, and how can I get the system to recognize my 2003 Office Software?
