I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi.

Welcome to TSG.

Not knowing which OS or which Photo shop version you are using, I'll give you the info for windows and Photoshop CS. I am pretty sure at least Photoshop 7 is the same.

You will find the correct method in the help files.

As soon as you turn Photoshop on, press and hold down the Alt+Control+Shift keys at the same time. Keep them held down until a prompt appears the will ask you if you wish to delete the current settings. Press OK.

Once the action is finalised (give it a minute or so), close Photoshop.

When you reopen Photoshop, the default settings should be back.

If you have any further problems, go to help>search>and type in Setting preferences. It will show you how.

Good luck.

I wondering how I can remedy this problem ? I have received this message several times since loading... "currently have photoshop's primary scratch disk and windows primary paging file on the same volume....which can result in reduced performance....recommend that you set photoshp primary scratch disk to a different volume...preferably different physical drive".
I am running win xp, 1.8 gig with 80 gig harddrive aparently formatted into 2 drives c and d. Most of the guts are on c drive. Should I just switch photoshop to the d drive ?
Thanks....

A:Photoshop scratch disk

I have my scratch disc on the D drive and it works fine. I also have my swap file there to keep it from cluttering my C drive. I have a small C drive and donít want either there.

Unless you were stingy on the RAM you likely donít use the paging file. Most people who use Photoshop have enough RAM that they donít ever use the swap file. I donít think there are great inefficiencies in having them both on the same drive but they both are easy to move if you want to separate them. I would move the paging file to the other partition if you want to move one of them. The C drive is on the faster part of the HD and the heads donít have to move as far to get from the program to the scratch disc.

I had just read about this here in another program and a newer WINDOWS

http://forums.techguy.org/t244538.html

I got the error twice tonight, when I tried to do a tutorial in PS that involved starting with a new (plain white- not too large) file. I mainly have used PS on my own pictures, but I know at one time I have used it in the "new" option.

I don't use it enough to know just when it stopped working, but a few weeks ago I put in new RAM, doubling it to 128 MB. Seems like this would help, not create an error?

I have 1.20 GB free hd space.

I have WIN 98 SE

I read the thread about it, but that involved someone with a lot bigger hd and newer WINDOWS. I looked at the links and got confused. With the renaming files and maybe needing a start up disk after? (I do have a start up disk, but the thought of maybe needing to use it after renaming a file sounds like getting into something I might not know how to get out of

Isn't there a way of finding the scratch disk file (that I think Photoshop sets up for temp stuff) and cleaning it out? But, maybe it's from all the "stuff" that has to load when PS does? It has to go into a temp folder somewhere?

Before I go looking around, I thought I'd ask.

I just need something simple. Or really specific things to try, in a clear and simple way.

I've had no problem using Photoshop to work on pictures, use filters/effects and even have batch processed folders of 20 or so at one time. You'... Read more

Hi there, Newbie here. I have a question for you guys operating Photoshop. I have been recently experiencing very sluggish regens while working on color rendering files (I am an Architect). Then started receiving an error stating that I need more "scratch space" on my drive. So after researching that for a while I have come to the conclusion that I need to free up more memory to be allocated to Photoshop (?); so, I have moved all of the large files (photos, CAD, etc.) to an external SD Card to free up space on C drive, but I am still experiencing the same problem. Am I going about this the right way or do I need to look at an alternate solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks !! Oh, BTW I am running Photoshop 7.0 (yeah, I know it's old but I know my way around it...) on Windows 8.1 (64 bit) on a Samsung 700T tablet with 4 GB of Ram.

Have no idea as to how to do this.

A:iPod scratch remover for minor scratch?

The only thing I would trust is BRASSO, but if the chrome plating is thin (very likely) then care with ANY product is needed to avoid plishing the thin chrome away to the nickel housing (or plastic housing if it's only a chrome effect on plastic)

As an example, similar minor scratches on my spectacle lenses have been removed using brasso.

But, since we don't know if it really is chrome or (more likely) just a plastic chrome effect, care with anything is needed to polish. Personally, I would consider that the chances of making it worse would be higher than those of eliminating the scratches, and would simply leave well alone. It's only an audio player. It's only a sign of use.

Hello there, There is no universal "one size fits all" solution that works for everyone and there is no single best anti-virus. Every vendor's virus lab and program scanning engine is different. Each has has its own strengths and weaknesses and they often use a mix of technologies to detect and remove malware. In many cases choosing an anti-virus is a matter of personal preference and what works best on a particular system. You may need to experiment and find the one most suitable for your needs. Hi everyone,

I custom built a PC from CyberPowerPC a couple years ago and I just recently experienced and issue where my computer was not turning on. I took it somewhere to get fixed, and they said it was a BIOS error, but when they went to re-download Windows 10 on my computer, they couldn't find any files for it. I have Windows 10 on my laptop, so I downloaded the Media Creation Tool and used it to get Windows 10 on a flash drive. I plugged the flash drive into the computer, and began the Windows set-up, but I have to use the advanced option since I am using the flash drive. It made me pick a disk and partition to download to, I picked one of my primary's, but it gives me an error saying it cannot create a new partition or located an existing one.
I don't know a lot about computers and I am really stuck on what to do. Any help would really be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello guys, I just joined the forum because I need some major help. I have tried over and over again but can't seem to install windows 7 properly, it always fails.
This is the error message I get:

"The installation was not successful. Changes made during the installation process are being undone."

I think this is most probably because my computer has a virus and a lot of my files are corrupted. I tried doing a system restore but my laptop turned off in the middle of it, which I think caused even more corruption.

At this point I think the best thing to do would be to wipe out my laptop's hardrive , so that I can properly re-install windows 7 on it. What do you think? I need some suggestion. If so, how do I go about doing this?
How do I wipe out the hardrive and install windows 7 from scratch?

Any help would be nice. Thank You guys!

Right, got a new computer, built it myself, everything is recognised correctly in the bios and the self checks, system is as follows:

Asus Crosshair motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Socket AM2
500GB SataII Hard drive
2X1GB DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 MEMORY
7900GS 256MB 256bit GDDR3 500MHz PCI-E Graphics Card
550w ATX PSU
DVD RW Drive

I am trying to install Windows XP 64x Pro on it, the drive is otherwise unused so blank, and un partitioned. When I power on the system either with the disk already in or putting it in afterwards I get "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER".

Since I am trying to boot from the CD and not from the HDD I changed the priorities to allow this in the BIOS, though it has made no difference what settings I have them on. The hard drive is recognised and is showing correctly as 500GB in the BIOS, with the sectors, speed etc updated automatically.

The drive clearly attempts to read the CD, but after about 15 seconds stops and shows the error. I tried reading the disk in my current computer, it works fine, I also tried using the CD drive from my computer in the new one, it again attempted to read but only showed the same error.

I connected my current hard drive (IDE not SATA) to the new computer, and it managed to boot windows, but obviously could not get past the login as it is set up for a different computer, and is a 32 bit version.

So currently I am thinking that its either a problem with the SATA on the motherboard, or a pro... Read more

Hi

How can I start again so nothing remains in my laptop?

Thanks

I don't know what is on your "d: drive." I assume that it is a partition on your hard drive and you can format or delete the partition Of course, I wouldn't advise doing that unless you know what is in the partition and know that you do not need it.

Hi,

I'd like to re-install from scratch the OEM Windows that came with the Toshiba S40B that I bought last week.
I'm guessing there will be a question of Activation Key at some point and I'd like to figure out what that is before I get there.
Any advice will be much appreciated.
BTW, have spoken to both MS support and Toshiba support and all they do is redirect the question to each other.
Have also read somewhere that there could be a BIOS embedded key that could be different from what is shown on MSDIAG?

A:How install windows 8.1 to Dell tablet from scratch

Do you want to make a recovery media? This is where you would make a copy of your windows installation files into a bootable media. It's useful in case you want to reinstall windows. Create installation media for Windows 8.1 - Windows Help You mention you have a tablet, so it does not have a CD/DVD drive. Because it lacks one I recommend creating a bootable USB Drive instead. If you still prefer to create a disc media over USB device you will need to buy an external DVD drive.

If you have any further questions or this is not what you wanted to do let me know.

My computer has been acting really weird recently, such as a lot of times when a software requires the computer to restart, a blue screen would flash by once, followed by the black screen with the options: safe mode, safe mode with networking, ... last known good configuration,...
Once the blue screen stayed, so I was able to record down what it said. Beside the normal two paragraphs stating restart and hardware software stuff, there was:

STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x808F06D7, 0xF7B580B8, 0xF7B57DB4)
I just want to start fresh on my computer, please help.

Hi,

I am tring to install XP on a hard drive from scratch. First time for me.

I have completed the FDISK, formatting the hard drive, and now I am stuck trying to install the OS. I boot up with cd-rom support to the command prompt and type: "e:\i386\winnt.exe". It then takes me to a blue screen where it says "Please wait while setup copies files to your hard disk". I can see in the lower right that it is copying a bunch of files, but when it stops doing that the "please wait" message remains in the center of the screen and nothing happens from that point on.

Any ideas why it is stopping there?

Thanks.

Yes, you heard me, is it possible to make a Windows 7 boot disc from scratch? By scratch I mean, I want all the programs I currently have installed on my PC and some items in my secondary drives to be there too, in other words, can I take my current Windows AND the programs/items I have on my drives, and put them together as one installation, so that when I format my computer and reinstall Windows, my basic programs, like Photoshop, After Effects, etc, are still there, so there is no worry about downloading it? That's my main point, I have to install Windows 7 and the programs I have in like 30 computers, it would take forever if I ALSO have to download programs like Photoshop, I don't have the best internet in town anyways.

Hope you can help me out, thanks!

Sounds like a better solution is to use a disk imaging app...

I use aCRONIS tRUE iMAGE....NOT fREE

And i recommend Macrium Reflect for a Free solution.

So i got this old pc for free.. It was working fine for sometime but then the OS stopped working. So i tried reinstalling all that business (i tried installing Win 98Se, Win2000 and WinXP home). During the first stage of copying the system files both Win 2000 and Win XP installations give numerous errors reading the CD and failing to install some of those files. I am certain that it's not the CD-Drive because i tried using it on my other machine and it worked perfectly. In some cases the installation finished, but the actual OS shoots out numerous errors such as Explorer errors and InstallShield failure to load. In some cases (the behaviour is very random) WinXp and Win2000 show those STOP error screens.

So the specs are:
440bx chipset motherboard with a P3 550 and 256 sdram. Seagate 40gb hdd. i know it's old, but for some reason i would like to keep it.

Any help on this matter would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi all

So im about to start the work for the windows 8.1 Pro "image creation" for mass deployment. just want to know if this is the right direction.

Installed VM Workstation 10, created .ISO from Windows 8 Pro OEM DVD, Installed Windows in VM from .ISO. Running all updates to get to 8.1, once it logs back in as default "user" name i was going to take my snapshot

is this the correct method and direction or did I already miss a step or process? I wasnt sure about the following:

why i would have any username at all since its going to eventually be a local admin account and added to a domain.

also

I activated windows (not sure i was supposed to do that really hope i dont have to start over but i heard sysprep can wipe that for me?).

TY all

I have the following desktop: TechComet: My Gadgets

My ?MO? is generally to keep things ?default? unless there is a good reason why I should change the way something is set up.

An example is that I read SSDs wear out over time so it is better to put the paging file on a separate disk. Hence, I created a dedicated partition on my 1TB HD and put my paging file there. The partition is 10GB and the paging file can go up to a total of 9GB (I have 6GB of RAM).

I have read articles that I suggest I move my Photoshop CS5 scratch disk of my SSD onto a separate hard drive. Hence, I made my paging file partition bigger and put the scratch disk there. I don?t deal with a lot of massive photoshop files, so this shouldn?t be a big deal, but again I want the best performance with the least hassle.

So, my questions are:

1. Where should the paging file be placed and approximately how big should it be?
2. Where should the Photoshop scratch disk be placed?
3. Should I move my temp folders off my SSD (i.e. move them to my HD)?
4. Are there any other hardware or optimization tweak that would benefit the speed or longevity of my system?

Again like I said I don?t like trying out every obscure hack, for one thing there is so much disagreement over these hacks that it is difficult to figure out what is the best thing to do.

Anyway, thanks for helping!

It sounds like you have already done what needs to be done. The page file on a system with that much RAM would rarely get used and certainly one the size of RAM would be more than enough.

The trouble with SSD's is that individual memory locations cannot be written too many times before they fail. The number is generally in the 100's, whereas machanical drives have virtually no limit. Because of this, the electronics of SSD's use complex algorithms to place data in memory to avoid using the same locations repeatedly, and that slows them down considerably since it is another layer of sorting before the data is actually moved. So, you may be wise to put those files elsewhere if a lot of reading and writing is going on.

But since the page file would be used so little on your system, I really am not sure that moving it has any advantages. Also, you will not be able to produce memory dumps to track down problems if you get blue screens.

Will there be an issue for the two of them to collaborate on image edits if they each use the photoshop version with which they are comfortable?

Thanks!

Hi All!
I just got my laptop back from the Lenovo Repair Center in Texas after they replaced the bad hard drive & keyboard, (and wiped off everything!!!). All that's on it right now is the OS & before I even open its lid I want to make sure I do everything right so I can avoid some of the annoying problems I had before. It had issues with the hard drive from the beginning, (it made a 'ticking' noise at various times until near the end when it sounded like an unceasing, loud wristwatch), & I'd get an "insert removable media" screen quite frequently. I used to be able to use the F8 key to get it to boot, but after about 10 times it was useless) Even though I've used a PC since the good old days of Windows 98 I've never made a back-up of anything...I know...I'm nuts, (or stupid),; but since I only use my PC for email, games, researching topics in which I have interest, etc. I never found the need to make back-ups. But now, since Windows doesn't provide 'recovery disks' for their newer versions, I want to know if I should make a disk for the OS FIRST...if this is correct, what's the best disk to choose for this purpose? I know there are CD; DVD; DVR, etc., but what's the best & most secure, long-lasting choice? Money is a problem so external hard drives, as well as jump drives aren't in my limited budget. Is making this 'boot disk' of the OS the very first thing I should do...if not...what IS #1? I also had the super-frustrating issue about "s... Read more

A:How to start "from scratch" with Windows 8 for a novice

Hello, not what you ask for, but am recommending using paragraphs & line shifts when writing long post.

Massive large blocks are quite unreadable and difficult to decipher.

the local PC tech place quoted me a fee of $100.00-$200.00 to transfer "files & folders", but NOT "Programs"....what does THAT mean

The files you have personally created\saved on the pc will be copied over (hopefully), example: word documents, pictures. But settings + stuff you have installed (programs etc) like wordprocessor, photo editing programs etc you have to redo\reinstall. In most cases, no way to transfer any programs from an old OS to a new OS, they must be reinstalled.

Basically, whatever you choose\need to do, brace for some work and proceed with care. I recommend, as a 1st step, to make a safety backup (image) of all your existing disk content.

I've been having performance issues between the Windows 7 side of my dual boot system and the Win8 side. And Windows 7 consistently out performs Windows 8.

In Nova Bench for example I have a dozen or more Win8 (Pro) tests in the 600-700 range, I can tweak the results a bit by adjusting the multiplier for my CPU or using the "extreme" setting in ASUS's Ai Suite for OCing. But the difference is clear, Nova Benchmarks for this same hardware running in Win7 (Home Premium) are about 50% better with scores consistently in the 900-1080 range. 1080 is my high water mark. Win8's best score is 823, with many scores in the 650 range.

Then I decided to get real.

I set up my real world test. I sometimes take a series of photo's and then use Adobe Element's Panoramic feature to stitch the images into one wide panorama. The images are all large megapixels to begin with (e.g. about 40M each) and the resulting panorama can be well in excess of 150M so we are talking big pictures.

I tested the system with the hardware BIOS settings the same and went to ASUS's Ai Suite to check to make sure the settings were the same for Win8 and Win7. I also checked in on AMD's Vision Control Center to ensure that all of the settings there were the same. Same hardware, same settings.

The tests - one used four images, the other six. These were the same images, drawn from the same hard drive. The images were not on the same hard drive as the OS or the program.

Each of my OS's i... Read more
