I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi All

I recently bought a Replacment Battery for my Dell Inspiron 6000 XP . The Battery is by all accounts the correct replacment but when I put it in and try to boot up it up shuts down my computer . Also when i put it in it makes my computer noisy as a result of the fan coming on ? The battery light flashes green orange green orange too ..When i contacted the retailer they told me update the BIOS but when i try to do so from the Dell site it just brings me to a fault page after clicking download..Anyway Im not sure i want to update the BIOS as some forums don't recommend so ..

I'm a real novice ..Wonder can anyone help ?

Have a fault in the battery ...The company thinks it's my machine and not their battery ..I can return it but i would rather get it working.

Yes I know offically is per Acer the battery is "non-user replaceable" but apparently it can easily be replaced according to a teardown of a similar model teardown link .  Based on the teardown photos the battery pack model number is AS16A5K.  Acer states that e5-575g-53vg comes with a 6 cell battery and some websites are stating that the battery number AS16A5K is a 4 cell battery but stating the same capacity as Acer states. Has anybody here taken or would be willing to take the back cover off of their e5-575g-53vg and find what the battery model number is? I'm asking because I'm considring buying the e5-575g-53vg but I plan to keep it for more than two years so finding out what I exactly need beforehand for the future would give me piece of mind.  <rant>I hate it that so few laptops these days no longer have batterys that are officially "user replaceable"</rant>

What should be done for proper battery care? I've heard that when the battery is fully charged, you should take it out because you don't want to charge it while it's already full. I've also heard that you should occasionally unplug the computer and let the battery run down then recharge it. Are those true?

A:Battery care

I leave my laptop plugged in whenever possible. About once a week I let the battery run out then I do recharge. I have had my laptop 3 years now and I am still on the original battery.
Knock wood
I also unplug it before shutting windows down, I believe I read in the manual to do that as well.

I'm new to laptops, bought a used one (Toshiba Satellite). The battery in it is fine, but after a 16 hour power outage the other night, due to a storm, I realized I could use the USB on it to recharge my cell phone (till the laptop battery died). I am buying another battery to have for a spare, for something like this (though the power doesn't usually go out for that long).
I've been reading about laptop batteries and not sure what is best, to use them unplugged and run down the battery, then recharge it? To leave it plugged in when it's not being used and turned off? One place said to take the battery out if using it plugged in, and one place said to not have it plugged in while using it.
I had been leaving it plugged in and using it plugged in (with battery in it) most of the time.
Can someone tell me what is best? Also, when I get the new battery, my plan is to put it in, plug it in and charge it, then take it out and store it (how long will it last as a spare?) but now I'm thinking it should be used, run down and recharged several time, first?
Just need some clear info about this, what is best for the laptop battery and what's best to set one up to put away for a spare (if the power is out)
Also, since I don't really know WHEN the power is going out, I'd like to keep the one in the laptop pretty well charged all along just in case. (the other night, I was using it, after the power went out, and then thought of charging my cell phon... Read more

I'm getting so many different opinions on this it's really confusing... I just wanted to know how I should take care of my notebooks Lithium Ion battery? What are the good charging proceedures? Do I let it discharge completely before recharging? Or just charge it when I'm not using the thing? And other proceedures that should be followed to make it last as long as possible.

Also, should I leave the battery in the notebook when it's not in use and it's convienent for me to take it out (like when I'm at home sleeping or something?)

Thank you so much! =D I really appreciate your help on the questions I've had in the past and now.

Sorry, this post was rushed, btw. I've got some business in town to attend to.

I recently bought a HP Pavilion 15-au113ng 15,6". After initially struggling with the preinstalled Win10, everything is fine now, except having tointerrupt normal boot order each time. However, I planned to take good care of my battery this time, as I did not with my last notebook. At the end my last notebook could only run less than 5min without power external supply and would then shut down without any warning. So this is the kind of scenario I want to avoid. On my new notebook I don't see any way to remove the battery, without opening the whole notebook, which means using a screw driver, which is very unhandy when going somewhere and not working at home. Also there is the question about warranty if I open the notebook. Will I still have complete warranty, if I open the notebook using a screw driver? Is there a hidden way to remove or disconnect the battery from the notebook, which I did not see, or is it really thought to be always in the notebook? I read that one should not fully charge the battery and people wrote about good results in battery maximum capacity after years of only ever charging to 80% max. Is there a way to set this? I did not find it in the BIOS options anywhere. Is it available after BIOS upgrade? Is there a script or something official by HP, which I can run to make it only ever charge to 80%? Or does the hardware itself already take care of all of this? (Is the development that far?) If all of this is not possible wi... Read more

Just got this laptop yesterday.  My old laptop had a removable battery, so I would keep it plugged in and take the battery out to conserve its lifespan.  The battery cannot be removed from this ideapad and I was not able to locate the settings for the battery (still getting used to Chrome OS).  Just want a suggestion on when to charge and when to unplug to prolong the lifespan of the battery as long as possible.  I use it at home so the duration it lasts is not an issue. Should I only charge it when the battery gets low and unplug at 100%? How can I change the settings? Not that knowledgeable on the subject, so thanks in advance for any help.

A:IdeaPad N20P Chromebook Battery Care

The best thing to do is to keep in in the charger and once a month let it discharge till 20%. It's much better to discharge a little bit and charge it again when it hits like 60 to 80%. This is the best way to preserve the battery life.

I've used some thinkpads that have the feature to take care for conditioning the laptop battery.
An useful function is to disable battery charging if you plug the AC adapter if charged above e.g. 75%.

It also monitors battery health and advises when a conditioning cycle is needed.
Is there such an utility for the Porteges or I should use a third party program?

A:Question about Battery care tool for Portege Z30A

How about BatteryCare Utility?

It is a free utility that helps you keep your laptop battery in good condition.
It monitors the battery's discharge cycles and helps increasing its autonomy and improving its lifetime. Additionally it provides detailed battery information and monitors the battery discharge cycles.

But Toshiba provides also own software called Toshiba PC health monitor.
It gives you an easy-to-read graphical overview of things like laptop temperature, fan speed and the condition of your battery.

I was previously using Win8.1Pro and the charging would stop at 95% (plugged in, not charging) and after charging would go below that level, charging would kick in like 90% (plugged in, charging). However, now i'm using Win10Pro and the smart charging feature isn't working. I've tried google, but to no avail. What worries me is, keeping the charger plugged in at 100% all the time will wear the battery out and plugging and unplugging all the time is just a nuisance! How can I revert back to the previous state?  I've tried HP AC Power Control, but it's not made for Win 10 as it just unresponsive even after we apply and okay and frankly, it's just a poor software.  HP should learn from Sony or Dell, their Battery Care Function and Battery Life Extension are very much user friendly.I would appreciate help in this matter. Thanks.

Hi, I just got out of an online chat with an HP technician who informed me, after helping me through troubleshooting for what was a faulty battery, that the Extended Warranty Care Pack taken out for the laptop did not cover the battery.  Their reasoning was that "The unit is covered under warranty but the warranty for the batteri is expired." If this is true then when I look up the laptop's current warranty status on HP's website, what it tells me is a bit misleading: "Active: Covered under Extended warranty,  42  months remaining" (for reference HP Support Assistant tells me the warranty for the laptop is a HP Care Pack and lasts until 2020). When I hover over the question mark icon on HP's website next to the warranty status, the icon brings up a box which states: "Warranty Status Types ?Manufacturer?s warranty? refers to the warranty included with the product upon first purchase. ?Extended warranty? refers to any extra warranty coverage or product protection plan,  purchased for an additional cost, that extends or supplements the manufacturer?s warranty." So then I'm curious about a few things. 1. How can I see what exactly this Extended Warranty covers?  In HP Support Assistant it justs lists HP Care Pack and the date it is set to expire. 2. What exactly does a HP Care Pack normally cover if it doesn't fully extended the warranty as the website lookup would lead you to believe? 3. If th... Read more

I own two new Dell Laptops, one a Precision workstation and the other an everyday Latitude, both running Win 7 Pro. Both have new batteries, so that's not an issue. Please do not suggest I check my battery. My system power settings are correct for both AC power and on battery, so that's not a problem either.
I replaced a Dell XP machine and an older Compaq machine running a Win 7 32 bit upgrade from Vista. Both of the older machines, upon reaching the preset low power settings limits, would open a pop up window on my desktop and alert me to either save my work and shut down or plug in the power cord. It would supersede and open on top of any work windows I had open. Both of the two new machines have no such pop open alert window and my computer often hibernates unexpectedly. Not a crisis, but a real pain when in the middle of work. I know that there are taskbar icon notifications and audible alert tones, but neither is useful for me. I must keep my computer muted when working and my taskbar is set to extreme hi-res with small icons, so you can't really notice the taskbar alert when concentrating on your work. Is the desktop pop open alert window gone forever, just turned off somehow, or what? Some one please advise. Thank you.

A:No Desktop Pop Up Alert for Low Battery

PS - I should explain. When I write "concentrating on my work", I mean that I create complex 3D solid models for expensive tooling and manufacturing businesses in a program which often is on top of the taskbar for screen optimization. They require my full attention and, as the result, the taskbar low power notification is pretty much useless for me. The desktop pop up window, which doesn't now open, worked great.

Hi everyone, So, yesterday I started up my computer and the fan was running unusually high and then shut off immediately.  I plugged my charger into my notebook and then started it up only to find the Primary (internal) Battery (601) message popping up.  This laptop is just over a year old so I searched up on HP forums and found the fix where you uninstall the 'ACPI - Compliant Control Method Battery', turn off your laptop, unplug the charger and charge it into a wall outlet, and then starting up your computer.  I repeated that process twice and then my battery worked again.  I ran a diagnostic test and it showed that my battery was still at 90% capacity.  All seemed well so I went to sleep, only to find that the same problem occured when I woke up and tried to turn on my computer - wouldn't start, alert message, uninstalled the driver twice and then it finally worked, and my battery is holding its charge now.   Does anyone have any suggestions or input that might be helpful? Thank you.

My Lenovo Thinkpad x131e is now used only to record TV shows off an antenna and is always plugged in. The battery died from old age a while back and I get a Lenono warning message in Windows 10 every time I boot the computer. The messaye is that the battery is dead due to normal use and cannot be charged (or something like that). Does anyone know how I can disable that message. It's not a huge deal as it only pops up once evey time the system is booted. But it would be nice to disable it as it will never again be used off the battery so it's nopt worth replacing itas I now use an x270 for those needs. Thanks for any help on this.Russell

I recently purchased a used desktop...Everytime my comp starts it reads :
NIC failure
Alert! System battery voltage is low.

A:NIC failure Alert! System battery voltage is low

It probably needs a new Cmos battery.

If you tell us the make and model (or motherboard make and model if it's a custom build) we can help you find out which battery you need and where it goes on the motherboard.

Does it get into XP ?

pilkieClick to expand...

Start>ctrl panel>sounds and audio>click sounds and scroll down to "New mail notification" and select a sound in the dropdown list . Or if you have a wav file on your HD just browse to it and use it.

Here is a link to some nice ones you can save to your computer. I use the one by George Carlin.

Hi guys,
i am trying to config a cctv dvr to sent emails in the event of an alarm the smtp info that it requires is a ip address instead of smtp.orangehome.co.uk. I have pinged smtp.orangehome.co.uk in "cmd" in which it returns but if i ping this ip address it times out ?? Have come? Aal my emails are working fine. If i create an alarm in the dvr i can see in the router log that it has gone to my smtp address. I have removed all firewalls and tryed changing the smtp port from 25 to 587 with no luck. In a nutshell why cant i ping my smtp ip address.
Please help
many thanks brian36

A:Dvr email alert

They most likely have the smtp server set to not respond to pings. Not uncommon. You can't ping www.microsoft.com either.

Only problem with using an IP address is it may change.
Right now nslookup shows they have 7 addresses that will go to smtp.orangehome.co.uk:

Server: google-public-dns-a.google.com

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: smtp.orangehome.co.uk
Hopefully they won't drop the one you chose out of the pool

I wasn't sure where to post this , so I posing it here. I want to warn everyone of a email I received today. I got a email saying my PayPal account was being limited because of some violations. It also contained a file that I was supposed to open to confirm my identity. I do not have a PayPal account. Just letting everyone know in case they receive this email or one similar to it. Do not click on anything in your emails.

Windows doesn't alert me of low battery power and the battery dies. It has been happening for the past couple of days now. I have checked the power plan settings and see that is is suppose to warn me at 16% and is suppose to hibernate at 9%. Anyone know what is causing it not to do either?

Could you give us the specs for this laptop, seeing as how your System Specs are for a desktop?

First of all: I know that I have been having a problem with my HP Laptop Battery, and with its cooling Fan.
However, I am now wondering what detected this error below as long as it was shown even before the notification saying 'the press 'ESC' key for Start-up menu.' Thus, if the BIOS detected that there was a problem with the HP Battery storage', then this error should have been listed after 'press 'ESC' key for Start-up menu.' was passed.

'HP Battery Alert:
The system has detected the storage capacity of the battery stated below to be very low. For optimal performance, this battery may need to be replaced.'
That alert lasted about 15 seconds, and then the 'press 'press 'ESC' key for Start-up menu.' is shown.

Next: This is error below showed me::
'The system didn't detect that a cooling fan is operating correctly'

I know that BIOS detected that a problem with 'Cooling Fan' since the Alert of error was shown after passing 'press 'ESC' key for Start-up menu.'
Any comments would be highly appreciated

A:'Battery Alert' appears before the 'press 'ESC' key for Start-up menu'

I have no clue what you mean by start up menu. But that message is from the BIOS.

I have set a customised alert sound for my Windows 8 laptop's Critical Battery alert but when I plug the charger in the sound keeps going.

Is there a way I can have the sound play until the charger is plugged in and for it to then stop?

A:Customised alert sound for critical battery will not stop

Since this is a customized alert, whoever designed the alert may be able to change something.
