Not turning on at all!

Q: Not turning on at all!

My laptop, a Windows 7 584037-001 won't turn on. My charger, when plugged in does not light up, and when I press the power button, nothing happens. I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but if it is, can you please help me? I don't know if I need to get a new one or not.

Preferred Solution: Not turning on at all!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What's the brand name and model name and model number of your laptop?
Is that the original charger that came with your laptop?

My other half and son were using the computer yesterday, and then left it on to do some other things, upon returning to the laptop noticed that the power button was solid blue (should be flashing orange when in standby mode), with nothing on the screen, moved the mouse with nothing happening as well as CTRL+ALT+DELETE.

Powered computer down by holding the on/off button for 5 seconds, restarted but noticed that I could hear the DVD drive power up but that is where it stops/hangs, nothing comes on the screen. Have done this numerous times, as well as removing the battery and starting with just mains power on?

Can anyone help with what might be going on ??

Can you enter Bios (f2 on startup) to check if the HDD recognized. Also, try to reinstall Windows with a recovery disk or Windows copy disk.

Here is the issue, when my computer goes to sleep after it's on for a while when I move the mouse to get the screen back up it shows the backround no icons or anything to click.
Same if I turn it off and turn it back on. I have to turn it off and on many times then go to safe mode and shut down then turn it on again for it to work. Just now I had to turn it on/off 4 times for it to show the icons and task bar. Usually it is left blank with nothing to click having no choice but to turn it off.
Norton says no viruses.
My computer is HP with windows 7. I bought it in 2011.
This problem has been happening for a long time. Please help.

Hello squirrels and welcome to Seven Forums.

I think I'd start out by trying to do a startup repair. It's been suggested that the startup repair be done 3 times (regardless of what the notifications say) and the computer rebooted after each repair.

If this doesn't fix the problem one of the Forum experts has prepared these troubleshooting guides with some additional suggestions.

Hi there, i have some issues with my monitor (awhhh).

It's working fine like 10-20-30 minutes and then it's turning off (for no reason) while the cumputer is running and the flash/button goes pink. I don't know what's this colour stands for. Blue is when the monitor is active, yellow is when the monitor is turn to sleep and when i shut down my computer, but PINK? What's that, anyone?

The monitor is turning OFF, not in a sleep mode or something.
I must remove the cable and push back in every 20 minutes. That's wrong.

Maybe it's the cabel, maybe something with drivers and stuff...i don't know.

please anyone....it's my moms monitor and she's gonna kill me, i blew it up.

Long story short, My computer suddenly shut off, And when i pressed the power button it would attempt to turn on then just fail and shut down completely[no signal to anything, only fans]
I cleaned out the pc and cleaned out the power supply, reassembled and it turned on as per normal. i used it for about 35 minutes, set it to sleep for an hour or two, turned it on, used it for about an hour and a half then it suddenly turned off again. When this happens it either powers on for 2 seconds then powers down, or it powers up all fans and mouse led but no signal to keyboard or screen whatsoever i assumed it was the power supply so i purchased a new one today and installed it, It turned on first try, i assumed it was fixed, i used it, set it to sleep as per normal and went to turn it on again and it turned on all fans but once again no power to anything else, just fans it seems. I tried everything[I have two sticks of ram so i switched them/used them singularly tried running without fans, Oddly it didn't beep even without video card or ram but nothing made a difference. I just borrowed a single 2gb stick of ram from a friend and it successfully powered on and I am using it normally.. But i just can't imagine the problem was just the ram and i expect it to power off again soon, Can anyone help?

hello !   is it bad if i never turn off a desk-top console, or even a laptop computer, if the equipment is not going to be used for several hours ?  is it bad for a computer if the computer is left in the "turned-on mode" forever, without being turned off, ever ?  i guess that it is necessary to define "bad for the computer".  does the computer wear out faster if it is not turned off and turned on regularly ?  thank you.

Let me clarify. My brother brought his computer over for me to recable it. Simple process right? Not so much. Before I get into details, let me give you specs. Keep in mind since I did not build the system, I do not have all the information I usually would.

Windows Vista
4 GB of RAM (unknown brand)
Abit motherboard (unknown serial number)
AMD athlon 64 3.0 GHZ processor
4 250GB harddrives (In raid configuration to look like 2 hard drives @ 500GB each)
Antec 550 watt power supply
Nvidia Geforce 8600 GT Video card

Okay, so when I recabled everything and powered the system on, it would not boot at all. Everything was on and running, but the bios was not doing anything, and everything was at a standstill. Not knowing if the raid configuation and the motherboard had anything to do with it, I started swtiching the sata connections into different configurations based on what I think the individual would have done. In doing this I accidentally pulled a jumper from the motherboard. Setting it aside and not thinking it was important, I plugged everything back in and attempted to power on the computer.

This is where it gets interesting. Instead of even powering on like it did last time, it powered up for MAYBE one second before shutting off. Any other attempts to power it on were futile, and resulted in nothing.

After this, I replaced the jumper where it was supposed to go, and powered on the system again. The same thing happened. I want to think the power supply is toast, but I wou... Read more

Just few hours ago I was listening to songs on Napster. Then I played some online games. I had to reboot at one point since it was going slow on me.

For some reasons unknown, my computer turns off and tried to boot itself, but kept turning off and booted itself. Somehow it did that in a loop. I tried to wipe up some dirt from inside(it may not be completely wiped up). I even tried to rearrange the cables and such. Now, if I press the power button, it only shows the power indicator, but it won't boot. I'm just puttoping it to rest right now hoping that it would back up tomorrow when I turn it on.

I have Velocity Micro with Windows XP SP3 (update progression). Motherboard: ASUS. I posted this using my laptop. I appreciate any help or input.

ok...so my girlfriend's computer, she has two. one is hers and the other is her moms. hers wouldnt turn on, turned out to be a bad psu. her mom's wont turn on, i think it may just be the power button. because it sticks, and just doesn't seem to work the way it should. but i asked if she ever spilled any liquids in there, and she said that her dog once pee'd on it...so yea, after washing my hands, i figured that would be the problem, but just in case, do you think any other thing would contribute to the power not working? everything is hooked up to the motherboard correctly, and the psu i believe is working normal. either way, i replaced the psu with the one from my computer, that i know works, and it still didn't work.

I finally got round to putting all the bits of my new rig together yesterday. Heres my spec of what i built:

Asus A7V333 Mobo
AMD Athlon 2000+
256Mb Crucial DDR
3D Prophet II MX
300w Herolchi Electronic Co (hec) PSU (Brand New)

I got everything connected together and flicked on the PSU, but sadly, no air from back of fan? The single L.E.D that is on my mobo lit up, which gives me some hope, but the fan of the processor did not turn, and neither would the fan of the PSU?
Now ive tried all the obvious solutions, change Power Cable, plug in to a mains socket on its own, check, double-check, and triple check that PSU to mobo connection is correct. But hell if i know what could be the problem???? Apart from a faulty PSU that is  . Should the PSU fan work independant of connection to mobo? As it doesnt when i try it like that also?
Can you think of any suggestions that might help me get to the root of this? Some advice would be much appreciated...

Hi, i have a dell dimension c521 desktop computer. I use this computer everday and hardly ever have problems with it. However today when i went to turn my computer on, i had a major problem - It wouldn't turn on!

Usually when i plug the socket in, the power button on the tower goes orange/amber and so does the on/off button on the computer screen, the computer screen also says dell for about 1 second. Anyway normally it goes orange then when i press the power button on the tower, the button turns green and boots normally. However, today when i put the socket in it went orange and when i pressed the button it still stayed orange and i could hear the fan very loud. Its a very quiet computer, this is the loudest i have ever heard it. And basically this is all that happens, the button(s) stay orange and you can hear the fan very loud and clear. I have left the PC on for over an hour and when i came back the button was still orange and the fan was as loud as ever. I have now turned off the computer hoping that it only needs a rest - however i doubt this very much.

I have absolutley no idea to what could have triggered this. This is why i plead to you computer experts please help me! i know this one of them problems which can only be solved by an expert when they are actually with the computer. But, ANY help/suggestions whatsoever would be GREATLY appreciated. So please could you help me out and suggest what the problem could be. I cant get onto the computer (cant go on saf... Read more

Hi all,

I've had a similar issue like this before and I managed to fix it- so I thought. My computer RANDOMLY shuts off and sometimes restarts but most of the time just goes black screen and the tower power stays on. It never turns off completely.

I managed to get a new GPU and PSU (Brand new) to which the GPU fixed the issue. This was about 6 months ago. Now, the same issue is happening. Its mainly triggered during a game, where the screen will switch off whilst playing League of Legends (very low end game compared to most).

Since i replace the two MAIN culprits that most people tell me it could be, is there any ideas. I'm starting to think its the SSD im using which is 120 gb Crucial. It has the game loaded on it and im running the whole OS off it as well.

There's an attachment with details of my Specs.

Hello yyyyyy, It would be helpful to know the model of your system and the version of the operating system. This faulty condition could be caused by several different reasons. I would first make sure the system is clean. HP systems seem to get dirty very easily. You might remove the side panel and see if the system has a dirt/dust buildup inside the case. If it does, I would clean all the dust/dirt from the system, paying close attention to the processor heatsink/fan, and also the power supply. You might need to acquire some compressed air to blow the heatsink/fan assemble free of any dust/dirt. This compressed air can usually be found at any computer shop and other stores. Please keep us updated.

Hi, i just started building my own PC out of some parts my dad had given me, he says he tested and checked all of them and said they worked.

Im not getting any system power whatsoever, the red LED on the mobo lights up that indicates when a power supply is connected, but when i hit the power switch i just hear a click from the PSU and nothing happens. Would that be a bad PSU or could it be something else?

The PSU and CPU fan i just bought today brand new.

Are all your parts compatible?

When making a build you should always do an out of the chassis build to make sure the motherboard will POST before installing the board in the chassis.

Go here;

Just got a new Dell PC. I'm a complete novice on computer matters but I connected it up following the instructions to the letter. Everything turned on fine and Windows set up started. I put in passwords etc that were asked for and then suddenly the processor just turned itself off. The monitor screen went black but the power light on it was still lit. I tried turning processor back on but it started to 'crank up' for a few seconds and then just turned itself off again, tried several times to turn it on again but no joy. I have it connected to a surge protector and there is plenty of ventilation around the processor, but it was only ever on for 5 minutes at the most so don't think it can be overheating. ANy ideas before I call Dell plese?

A:New PC keeps turning itself off

The first thing Dell will say (if you tell them) is take it off the surge protector.

Can you boot into Bios (press whatever key is specified in your manual) and stay in there for any length of time?

Have you connected ANY other non-Dell devices via serial/parallel/USB port?

If you were provided with an OS install disk, will it boot up?

My sincere apogoly for (probably) posting this in the wrong section (if I did atleast).

I was playing a normal game of League of Legends a day or 4 ago with my friend on Skype, when suddenly my monitor's screen turned black saying there was no signal, my keyboard and mouse stopped giving light and there was no sound anymore either. My PC was still on (the light coming from my power button was still working), but I couldn't turn down my pc through the power button, so I forced it to shut down by pressing on the O button from the power supply. I pressed the button back to I, tried to turn my PC on again and nothing happend. There was literally no sign of life : The blue light that's supposed to come from my power button didn't work, I didn't hear any fan working, the PC does nothing at all. It's not making any beep sounds whatsoever.

So I was thinking of what the problem might have been. I thought it would've either been my motherboard that died on me or my power supply. I was testing if my power supply died by using a paper clip that was connected to the green and black wire. I did hear a boot sound but I didn't see any fan spin around. Is this a sign of a faulty power supply unit or could it still be my motherboard?

A:PC not turning on.

Well the only way to really tell is by using a dedicated PSU tester or another PSU which is known to be in good working order.
You can remove your PSU and take it to the local pc repairman, chances are they might do the testing for free.
However keep your finger crossed, because sometimes when a PSU goes bad, it can take the mobo with it.

This notebook was working fine, and I was replacing the screen hinges, but now it will not turn on (i've taken the screen fully off because thats another problem for another time). I know about the flashing lights and power indicators, but after I charged it for over 24 hours, there are no lights when the on button is pressed, not even the three flashing 'out of battery' lights. the only thing that lights up is the little light next to the charger input, so the notebook knows there is a charger in, and I believe it is giving out power, as the light next to the charger is on, and the power brick gets warm to the touch after a few hours (which leads me to believe it is giving out power) HELP!! please!!!

Alright my problem right now is that my PC won't turn on at all. The little green light doesn't seem to be on the motherboard. I think the computer may have gotten wet which is why it doesn't turn on. It was raining before and I had the computer too close to the window and I fell asleep without thinking about it.

When I woke up in the morning to try to turn it on it wouldn't go on and wasn't making any noise at all. There was a little pool of water towards the front of the tower so I am thinking some may have fallen in through the fan. Anyone have any idea to find the specific cause of the problem? I have let it sit out with the side off since friday, but not sure on what to do now.

2 years old. Unit will not turn on. Totally dead. No lights at all. I have tried:- holding in the start button for 30 seconds and all times in between- Swapping chargers as I have two - both HP originals- I have removed all plug ins  (which was only a mouse transmitter)- I have left the unit recharging overnight direct into the mains (normally plugged into surge protector) but nothing.- the unit is sealed and I am reluctant to open it as I really don't know what I am doing. Further hints useful but actually my question is whether it is worth paying for someone to look at this or shall I ditch it? It is on a PC World lease and I have just discovered that this affords me no  protection at all -  buyer beware - so trying to get another 12 months out of it will help me immensely.

Ok, I was recently at Best Buy and they had the new Mac G5's on sale for about 2,500. It's got dual processors running at 2.0ghz each and has the capability to use 8Gigs of ram. Holy mother of god, I want one! But, the sad thing is, I hate Mac OS. I've grown up on Windows, and as much as I disllike Microcrap, I love WinXP. and I have recently learned that you can't run Windows on Mac hardware... why?

Anyway, is there currently a PC out that has near these stats for that price? I like the idea of having 2 processors and that much ram. Thanks!

I have recently purchased a new motherboard\cpu\ram & Hdd to upgrade my existing desktop computer. I have kept my exisiting PSU & AGP Card.

The system will bootup and allow start off the windows installtion but would then turn off after a few minutes. I then have to remove power cable and reconnect to get it to bootup again.

I can enter the BIOS setup without any pobs and it doesnt turn off whilst i in the BIOS setup but when i exit, instead of restarting the system goes off again. Sometimes i have to remove power cable for several minutes before reconnecting because if i reconnect straight away the machine will power on but the fan on the ATI X1950 Pro AGP card spins on full and there is no display on monitor. CPU fan and case fan also come on.

When i am able to boot into the windows setup the machine does POST but then goes off again around the same point of the windows installtion.

I have tried another AGP graphics card, memory modules but still have the same issue.

Does anyone have any suggestion on what the problem could be?

For the years my computer has been turning itself off without warning, it used to occur once in every few weeks which i could deal with (usually when i had more than 5/6 prgrams running at once). However it gradually became more frequent and now ive got to a stage where i cant even run a spyware/virus check without it turning itself off

Now im 90% sure its to do with the memmory and not a over-heating or powersupply issue, i was advised to download a memory test utility from memtest.org but when i run the DOS version a DOS command prompt screens appears for only a few seconds then nothing happens

Ive also looked into my event viewer log after ive restarted and no errors appear on there, other then "The AVG7 Update Service service terminated unexpectedly"

Any ideas?

If you are sure that your problem is not heat related, then it definitely could be either a RAM or motherboard problem. Try downloading and creating a diagnostic CD from http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

When you boot with it, there are at least four or five good RAM testers and I think it also has some CPU testers as well. If none of the tests yield any good results, you might want to take it into a local computer shop (NOT GEEK SQUAD) and have them run some of their diagnostics on it.

Good luck.
