Win7 home edition - how to audit when & who logged in past week/month?

Q: Win7 home edition - how to audit when & who logged in past week/month?

Which tool or command part of Win7 home edition, will enable me to trace past logging in/out activites and from which user accounts?

Indeed, tools such as secpol.msc are not part of it(or where not activated)

Preferred Solution: Win7 home edition - how to audit when & who logged in past week/month?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am using Office Professional Plus 2007 on Windows 7. I am syncing with iCloud.

Today while I was modifying an appointment, I suddenly lost all my appointments in the day/week/month view. I can still see them in the "All appointments" view.

Here is what I have tried:
run diagnostics
started outlook with the following switches: /cleanview, /resetfolders, /safemode,
reset filters on views
uninstalled-reinstalled
but the problem still exists. I should also mention when I reinstalled, my data was still there, so maybe there is something corrupt in my profile?

Can anyone help? Please! I have turned off syncing for my iPhone with the iCloud for the time being because I am terrified I am suddenly going to lose my calendar on my iPhone and then I will be screwed :-(

For only the past month, I've been having BSODs on my 5 month old self assembled computer. All of which occur during gaming. For the first two BSODs, I thought it was due to my undervolting of the CPU (which had been stable for months), so I reset that to factory settings. Unfortunately, I'm hit with a brand new error this last time (dxgmms1.sys as opposed to whea_uncorrectable_error). I'm at a loss as to what may be the cause and have no experience evaluating dmp files, so I figure the bright people of this forum can lend a brain.

Hi Tonney & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

I have analysed your dump files and below has been provided an analysis of the same for informative purposes :-
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b)
An exception happened while executing a system service routine.

Ever since I began playing Battlefield 4, I have began having many crashes. I just recently enabled BSOD so I can see what the error exactly was. However, I have no idea how to interpret these dumps. Here is a summary of my issue that I posted on another site to no avail:

Hey guys, I just purchased Battlefield 4. I had similar issues like this when playing the beta a few weeks ago, but no such issues during BF3.

I had been playing for a few hours and then all of the sudden everything crashed. The PC seems to still but running (fans are running loud, probably max), but my monitors lost signal, and sound and mouse/keyboard input went out. Right after the crash, the computer reboots itself. However, the fans are still running at max and the monitors aren't getting any input. Sound and keyboard/mouse does work after the reboot. With the monitors not working, I just have to hard turn the computer off and then back on to fix it. Ever since it first happened, it has been happening constantly about 10 minutes after being into a game.

This was happening a few weeks ago as well while playing the BF4 beta. I stopped playing the beta, however the issue continued happening. The PC would crash outside of the game even while just browsing the internet. I rolled back to before I installed the BF4 beta and opened up the case and reset everything. The issue seemed to be fixed at that point. Now that I have installed the retail copy of the game, it is happening again. The computer is now cr... Read more

Although the max GPU temp was 86?C - that's not usually hot enough to cause BSOD - but I would look into the cooling solution for your GPU (everything from how the cooler is attached to the card, the cooler being clean, the fan working, and good airflow in the caase)

Your BIOS dates from 2011. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:

1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD. I usually can't see this info in the reports, so I rely on you to check it.
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to. If involved these should be visible in the memory dump - but it doesn't hurt to check manually.

So I recently noticed that my hard drive space has been filling up with stuff I can't seem to locate and I don't know if its a virus or if its just something my computer is doing to prepare for the Windows 10 update.

Last week it was up to 164 GB but this week it went down to 156, and yesterday I noticed that it went down to 143 GB, up to 145, and stopped at 144.

Can somebody help me?

A:Lost 20 GB in the past week

Most likely this is a result of System Restore.  Windows periodically makes restore points so you have a way to get back to a system you had prior to some problem.  This process takes a percentage of your total hard drive space which you can change if need be.  If you want to see where every bit and byte are going, you can download a program called Treesize and run it.

 Good luck.

Hi, for the past month or so, I've been dealing with random BSODs on my windows 7 laptop (Sager NP4658), can someone tell me what's causing them?  I've attached the dump files from the last month to this post.

I've already done a chkdsk which found no corruptions, SFC 'did not find any integrity violations', and verifier.exe (only tested all non-microsoft drivers) found no problems.

A:Frequent BSODs for the past month

Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum):  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-10-81-8-7-vista/ Out of 7 memory dumps there were 6 different BSOD error codes.  The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things (the list is not in any sort of order):- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.- dirt/dust/hair/fur/crud inside the case.  Blow out the case/vents with canned air (DO NOT use an air compressor or vacuum as they can cause damage to the system)- missing Windows Updates- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers), older systems, or even pirated systems- low-level driver problems- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from http://www.carrona.org/initdiag.html or http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.html ).Please get a head start on the hardware diagnostics - they are located here:  http://www.carrona.org/hwdiag.htmlDaemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have ... Hello. I have had several BSODs in the last month. A driver has never been stated, but the last two times I used BlueScreenView and it said it was ntoskrnl.exe both times. I have ruled out the HD failing, and some of my RAM was bad, but I have removed it. I am running verifier.exe now to see if it happens again. I will attach the last minidump as well as the BlueScreenView result.

The last 4 times it has happened, I was simply browsing online. I though it may have been Firefox 4, but this time it was with Iron, which is based on Chrome.

I also ran sfc /scannow and it found some errors it could not repair. I am also including the log since I can't tell what it says.

Hi guys, first post here, so hello to everyone.

My husband's computer has been behaving erratically for about 10 days or so. It will crash with different BSOD's at random.

Details of the behavior:
- The computer shuts itself down anytime: It can be idle doing nothing for hours, you may be working with it, running programs or not, after it just restarted or after about 12 hours or more.
- The BSOD messages so far have been: "BAD_POOL_HEADER" (mainly on the first few days, haven't seen that one in a while), "SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION", a few days ago and twice yesterday, and "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" a good few times. Today, for the first time, when running the BSOD Dump & System File Collection app, we had a "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT" one.
-I used "Speccy" to monitor the temperatures and there's no sign of overheating for CPU or motherboard. The graphic card is at around 80 C, but i've read that's quite OK.
- There has been no major new software installed (I think my husband had installed quicktime a couple of days before), windows has been updated, and there have been NO hardware changes at all. There is no hardware connected to the computer except for the USB wireless adaptor for the Mouse and keyboard (see below).
- Technical details: Computer is a Packard Bell Onetwo L A6524 UK.

A:Lots of BSOD in the past week

Crashes seem to have been plaguing this machine in various forms for some times looking over the information.
Unfortunately I'm unable to pin down any one cause and the minidumps are all over the place.

I do notice that the usb system driver has caused several of the crashes. I would recommend unplugging any usb devices in the short term to see if that helps clear up the issue.

That being said.

There's 2 things I would like you to try for the moment.
The first is a simple windows core file check, this is easy to do and only takes a few minutes.
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

The second is not very difficult either but will take some time (it's best to allow it to run overnight) and that is to check the physical memory for problems
RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Needless to say you have a massive number of minidumps here to go over, and I would like to try these two relatively easy on both of us options before I start digging through 15+ minidumps looking for a common problem causer.
I'm attaching one of the minidumps just for future reference.

A:System very slow, past week u

Well, by including a hijackthis log you really kind of restrict the number of people who can or will reply to you until a malware expert comes by and certifies that there is nothing in your log which can be considered malware.
You really should have posted on the malware board first if you think you are infected and if not you should not post a hijackthis log unless it is asked for.

===========================================================
But lets assume you are not infected and that the problem lies elsewhere.
The first thing I would ask is "What changed"
Did you install , update , or change anything just before the slow down occurred? Or did it just sort of creep up on you?

You mention that you think your internet is slow,
"This past week or so my system is running apps and internet very slowly. Takes a long time to open or switch from one open app to another or from one internet tab to another."

Have you run an internet speed test to confirm that you are getting the connection speed you are paying for?
Your ISP may offer one such as this one from AT&T
http://helpme.att.net/dsl/speedtest/

Or you can try any of the free ones
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
http://www.speedtest.net/
http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest
for example.

Okay, lets say that you have tested your connection speed and it checks out.
So you know it is your PC.

The next thing to do is to check your specs out.
How much RAM do you have What processor and speed? (rig... Read more

I have a feeling the BSODs are being caused by my USB audio interface, but there's nothing specific that I do that seems to trigger them. I've had a random BSOD every couple of months or so, but as the incidents were so far apart I didn't really bother investigating. However I've now had a couple this week alone, which is rather concerning. I recently changed the USB port my audio interface uses after dusting the PC out, which meant I had to remove / reinstall the device drivers for it and it seems there are more BSODs after doing this.

If that's the case (presuming a BSOD can't do any actual damage besides losing unsaved work?) then it would be great to know.

The PC was self-built in August 2012, all items were new except for the graphics card which was bought in September 2011.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (x64)
CPU: i5 3570k @ 3.4GHz
Video Card: HD 6870
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LE Z77 Socket 1155

Thanks in advance!

I've been getting a BSOD or two almost every day for the past week or so. I tried upgrading to the new Nvidia driver and it seemed to make it worse so I rolled it back to the one I had. I followed the directions on this site to properly install the drivers so that I wouldn't have any conflicts but it seems to still be happening.

I've also tested my RAM many times and haven't had any errors come up.

It seems I get the biggest issue while playing games or watching videos. Tends to crash when I go between screens but that might just be coincidence.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Chimi, I checked the last 5 dumps you had. 4 of the 5 listed the same thing. However, they were all different stop codes, which indicates a memory problem from my experience. I need to know all of your system specs, as specific as possible. We often have to look up a component and need all of the components with the Manufacturer and model. The following will tell you how to do it. Just please include your PSU and CPU cooler. Also, please put them in the place provided.
Please fill out your System Specs

   Information
Your System Specs will help us to help you, and doing it in this manner will make them available to all helpers in every post and keep us from hunting for them. We ask that you fill them out in as much detail as possible including Desktop or Laptop, Model number if it is an OEM computer and all components with the Manufacturer and Model number if possible.

If you will go to your last post and click the 'System Specs' in the bottom left of the post, you will find a link to update your system specs. Please fill those out in as much detail as possible, making sure to click save at the bottom of the page. If you would like to know what we would like, you can click 'My System Specs' at the bottom left of this post to see mine. If you do not know what your components are, this will help you accomplish this task. System Info - See Your System Specs

I sent my laptop to get something fixed and when I got it back I found a hell of a lot of personal folders accessed by the sickos who 'fixed' it.

I'm disgusted beyond words, just... please, I NEED to know if they copied anything out of my laptop or bluetoothed anything out of it - there were a LOT of personal pictures and videos they snooped into - is there some kind of action history saved anywhere on windows 7 that would allow me to see if they took anything and what they took if they did?

A:Is there ANY WAY to see the history of every action in the past week?

Hello!
Press start and type computer then press enter.
this will open up computer management.

now under System tools node expand event viewer node.
now expand Windows logs node.
finaly click on Applicatin node.

now in top left corner click on Action and select filter current log
now in this dialog in drop down menu of loged label select last 7 days
fill in additional info and click OK.
now when you click on any log you'll get details bellow computer management window.

Do so for every node like Applications and services node, filter them and read detais as long as you want.

It's hard to find what what you want there cos a lot of info but I think this is the only option to check events in past 7 days.

Hope this help

I'm using windows 32bit on a 15 inch macbook pro through bootcamp.
I haven't been quick enough to get the error code. The BSOD occurs seemingly randomly; once while loading a youtube video, once while the computer was just idling, once while chrome was open.
The error code mentioned something about it being a graphics card error, and I've heard that the graphics cards on 2011 macbook pros going out was a common problem.

I've attached my system info and the debug files.
Any help?

Hi chelsie.

The zip you uploaded is not appearing to be the output of our SF Diag tool. Moreover it does not contain any crash dumps.

Follow it: Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded). Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Dont run any disc cleanup tool before you upload another zip.

For the past week I have been having random reboots. This never usually happens but it started after I updated Catalyst and started playing Team Fortress 2. It never reboots when I am on it, but it reboots when Its idle. I thought that maybe it was my CPU overheating so I decided to switch the power options to "Balanced" which doesn't shut it down but puts the computer to sleep after about 30 minutes. I have done virus scans and I am afraid that none of them are completely due to the random reboots.

I am also dual-booted to Ubuntu so when it reboots, it loads into ubuntu.

There was one BSOD but I didn't read what was wrong and it hasn't given me one since last week, so thats when I assumed it was the CPU and decided to lower the power settings to cooldown my CPU.

I am on a Gateway GT5692 (Gateway Support - Specifications) with a 1gb RadeonHD 4650 graphics card. I upgraded the PSU to a 500w Ultra. As well as installed a Ram fan to cooldown the Ram a year or 2 ago.

Normally in this position, I would format my HD and reinstall windows but at this moment, I do not have a backup HD hooked up to backup my files and there are plenty of files on here that I wish to keep.

If there is any other information you need, I will gladly fill you in as best as I can.

A:Random Reboot's for past week?

What's the make and model # of that Ultra 500 watt? If it's an X-3 or an X-Pro, then you're in good shape; if it's an Xfinity or an X-2, then ... not so much. If it's an Ultra X-Connect, get rid of it now.

For the past month, my Windows 8.1 HP Pavilion Laptop (barely 2 years old) has been having 3 different strange issues out of nowhere and I don't know why (and I've done full scans with my anti-virus and Malwarebytes and they've come up clean).  Here are the issues:

1.  Every time my computer tries to do Windows Updates, it will download the updates and then try to install, and then I get a message saying, "We couldn't install the updates.  Undoing Changes."  I've even tried using the Windows Update Troubleshooter tool on Microsoft's website, and even after using that it didn't fix the problem.  So I don't know what else to do.

2.  When ever I right click on a file, it will hang for about 10 second before it gives me the menu (the properties, copy, cut, delete, rename, etc. menu).  It is really a pain and I have no idea what's causing this.

3.  I have a program called quietHDD that I launch every time I start up my computer.  It always used to stay launched and the icon would stay on my taskbar until I shut down my computer, but lately the program will disappear from the taskbar and close down after a few minutes.  I've never had problems with this program before, and I have no idea why it's just shutting down out of nowhere.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do to fix these problems?   Thanks for your help in advance.

The first BSOD was the next day. There have been six in a month. Help!

A:infrequent BSOD over the past month HP Pavilion

It looks like there's still a problem with the graphics drivers (0x3B) possibly due to a damaged or corrupt system file (win32k). I'd run a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan. See if the problem is resolved.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If not, I'd next try to roll back the Nvidia driver to a previous stable version. I'd try using the Nvidia "Beta and Older Drivers" link to find a driver from maybe 6 months to a year ago. Install that driver and check for problems. If no problems are noted, try upgrading to the next newest driver. Keep checking until (a) you've installed the latest non-Beta driver or, (b) you find a driver that causes issues, in which case go back to the previous driver.

I have an HP laptop nc6400 running Windows 7 SP1. I am having problems with the CD player - it doesn't recognize any CDs I put in! When I try to put in a CD, it ejects the drive and comes up with the message "Please insert a disk".

I have a Win7 SP1 (burned) disk. When I put in this disk, and boot from CD drive, it launches the Windows 7 install program. I select the "repair" option, and repair startup files. It completes without errors. (This is the same disk that wasn't recognized once in Win7).

Someone recently replaced the CD player with a different one - both players had the same problem (it is now a HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4247N ATA Device). I've tried updating the driver (in Device Manager) and even uninstalled it and had it re-discovered and installed.

When I run SFC /SCANNOW from the boot DOS prompt, it says "No errors".

When I log into Win7 and run SFC /SCANNOW from an elevated command prompt it says there were files that were corrupted but unable to fix. I created the SFCDETAILS file, but searching for "fail", "corrupt" and "unable" yields 0 results, so I don't know what files are corrupt.

I'm not a hardware person, and this is a work computer, so I have limited ability to do anything hardware-wise. But considering the DVD player works to boot from, but doesn't work once logged into Windows, I'm thinking it's a software problem (but don't know what the problem is).

A:Can boot with Win7 DVD but once logged into Win7 CD doesn't work

Hmmm... no comments... I think I posted a doozie!

As an update - I was able to successfully burn a CD on the drive. I located an ISO file and burned it to a CD-R. I heard the 'whirring' for a few minutes, it said it was done and ejected the drive. I looked at the CD and it appears to be written to. I look at the drive in Windows Explorer, and it shows D: is a CD-R with 360MB free of 702MB. Hurray! However, when I double click D to open it, it shows "Files Ready to Be Written to the Disk" - Desktop.ini, and no other files. I can't run D:\setup.exe (windows can't find d:\setup.exe). So something is not right...

I put my Microsoft Keyboard/Mouse CD in the drive, and Windows Explorer doesn't recogonize it (Please insert a disk).

I ran Microsoft Fixit for playing CDs, and it said it couldn't find any errors.

Does this illuminate the problem any further?

This is my first time on this site, so I hope I'm posting in the correct section. Over the past week I have been experiencing frequent disconnects in my internet service. I have called my ISP four times since this began, which resulted in them giving me a new Modem, and replacing the Filter on the outside of the house, but none of this has helped the issue.

I especially notice the disconnects when I am playing on-line games (World of Warcraft, League of Legends), and it causes any and all games to be un-playable. They also occur when I am just browsing web pages. Sometimes the disconnects happen every 5 minutes for an extended period of time, and then I could have steady internet access for up to an hour if I am lucky.

If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this problem, please help!! IDK if you need my computer specs, but I've pasted them below.

News outlets were reporting for about a month there would be a national hacker attack on the 4th/5th of july. MAYBE it did hit, maybe not.
i'm speculating it might have occurred wwith my dsl provider this past week. they spent 5 hours over 3 days with me, over the phone, and were getting ready to have someone go out and check my lines.
here's what occured:

on wednesday,i lost my dsl connection for no apparent reason. today,(4 days later, dsl just came back).

On thursday and after spending 5 hours over the phone ,the dsl provider was dumbfounded what could be wrong. everything checked out(confiqurations, rebooting, resetting modems, etc. my dsl was just not going through! On thursday,i called my dsl provided back and got a recorded message my entire state was having (trouble) and there would be over a 30 minute wait for assistance. i waited 1.2 hours and hung up.

On friday ,my dsl provider called and said they found alot of trouble with the lines.

On saturday, the dsl went through. in restropect no one has to visit and i dont think it was computer,ie it was an external cause.
Im wondering if that attack occurred. i give 3 cheers to my dsl service for thier perservance and patience...not to mention likely hundreds of dollars of free time helping me.

My internet connection is significantly slower in the past week and I don't know why. I'm a novice when it comes to this stuff...but my setup is relatively new...

* verison avenue dsl
* dell inspiron 8600 laptop

... I do try to take precautions:

* I switched to Mozilla in early Jan 05
* I use a firewall, antivirus and pest scanner (all Computer Associates - eTrust EZ Armor, EZ AntiVirus, and Pestpatrol)
* I try to regularly do updates

But I still feel a bit clueless. I did a system scan with the anti-virus software yesterday and it came up with 9 "infected files not cleaned/deleted/renamed" and they each had "trojan" at the end of the name.

Can someone tell me the next step?

many thanks in advance

It all started about a week ago. At first, the charger was acting really weird. It would only charge the computer on certain outlets and if the prongs were facing a certain direction on the outlet. The computer would also immediately die when I plugged the charger in and THEN it would start charging. But then after that, everything would be fine. It was a hassle, but it was managable. Then, a couple of days later, I did a mandatory Windows update, although I'm not sure if that's important. Nothing changed immediately after the update until about 2 days later. Now, my laptop charges fine, but the screen is black. I can plug in an HDMI to view it on the screen though. Also, whenever I remove the HDMI, the laptop does a bunch of 'error' beeps, but when I plug it back in there are no notifications on the screen. The touchpad and the keyboard also act really strange. The mouse only works about 25% of the time and the keyboard about 75%. The WiFi also acts really weird and only connects sometimes. The most concerning part is that random things seem to trigger a blue screen of death with the error code: DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION. A lot of the triggers seem to involve connecting to or using WiFi. Here are a list of things I've tried to do to fix it:Turn off fast boot in the power settingsUpdate BIOSUpdate all driversSystem restore where I save all of my filesDoes anyone else have any other ideas?

Hey guys,

So lately I've had several BSODs the past week. I updated my video drivers and everything seemed to be okay, but then I got a new error code (located in dmp file) and then today I received a completely different code, 0x01E.

This occurs randomly, I can't recreate it. Sometimes it happens when playing video games, sometimes it happens while browsing the internet or watching YouTube videos.

I've read the instructions and I believe I have everything in order, apologies in advance if I missed something, please let me know otherwise.

I greatly appreciate anyone's help on this matter, as well as your time.

A:Several different BSODs the past week, completely random.

There are multiple different bugcheck codes blaming multiple different things, and one of the dumps is totally uncommon in nature. In this situation it would be better to determine the stability of the RAM at first.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors. How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest86+ for at least 8 consecutive passes.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

After beleiving I cleaned my system of the thinkpoitn my system showed no more signs of issue until last week where I encountered a Fraudulent Pop-up Security Window upon logging on to Chase.com site to review my account. Nothing was typed into the said pop-up and the incident was reported to Chase. I ran several scans daily up until ealier in the week this week and my antivirus and malware s/w detected nothing until the Chase.com Fraudulent Pop-up Security Window appeared again this past Tues. I then began running scans again and no detectios found until this evening when TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen was discovered.

Background:
Installed a Kingston SSD five months ago - 128GB
Still use System Mechanic Pro, although not as OCD. Using it lot less out of fear of corrupting registers and boot sectors.
Sometimes I will leave the notebook on 2-3 days without rebooting

A couple of times, I got the message of a bad boot sector and had to opt for the Recovery Utilities (?) In both instances, the repair failed and had to restore. I listed my primary suspects above. On System Mechanic Pro, I use it a lot less, but it has this annoying automatic cleanup that could be causing me problems.

This does not address my problem, but the first time, my MS backup was done wrong , but the second time I was able to restore from a full Acronis backup.

Hope I listed a likely suspect on the boot problem.

A:Trying to find the culprit in boot failure twice the past month

What was the exact error? And who told you to opt for Recovery Utilities. Can you be more specific?
The error message appeared immediately on boot?

Hey there,

I've been having some interesting issues with my computer. I'm thinking the RAM might be relevant -> from time to time the computer won't start and will go to a black screen. It will always start with only one stick of RAM in, but I need to fiddle with the second stick for a few minutes until it starts with both.

I've been getting multiple BSOD, from BAD_POOL_CALLERto KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLEDI've posted the zip below, please let me know if you need anymore information -> SFdebugFiles.zip

Thank you very much!
Josh

EDIT: only running 1 of the sticks of RAM and haven't gotten a BSOD yet - what might be the problem with 2 that's messing with the computer?

A:Multiple BSOD in past month-while browsing and LoL(moba)

Test the stick that's causing it. It might be bad. Insert only that stick and run Memtest86+ and leave it running until you get errors or for eight passes.

Hi all. My Acer Aspire V3-571G laptop has been suffering from multiple BSOD crashes recently. Some observations:

- The laptop will often go for days without crashing, but then crash multiple times within minutes.

- Lots of crashes do not generate dump files and simply restart the computer or display glitched graphics and freeze

- BSOD crashes are often preempted by glitched graphics displaying on the screen briefly.

- BSOD crashes often, but not always, happen after slightly adjusting the position of the laptop

- BSODs most often happen when browsing the web (i.e. in Chrome) but have also happened while playing games and shortly after booting.

- I ran chkdsk last night on the laptop. It stayed at 29% forever then went straight to 100% and then the computer suffered a BSOD on the login screen almost immediately afterwards.

- I ran memtest86+ for one pass without any errors earlier (I'll go for longer if advised)

- BSOD error codes are broken down as follows:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL - 4 times
UNEXPECTED_KERNAL_MODE_TRAP_M - 3 times
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED - 2 times
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA - 2 times
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION - Once
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M - Once
Often memory_corruption or the NT kernel are blamed for the BSOD's in Windbg (there was one caused by a Norton driver, one by an Atheros Wireless Network Driver, according to WinDbg)

Hi,

It seems like issue with one of the drivers, have you recently added/changed any hardware on your laptop?
Also may I know which Norton product/version are you running?

I have thousands of messages in my Yahoo mail.  Most of them have been downloaded to the .pst folder.

I created a new profile and added the mailbox and now it's downloading all the messages.  Is there a way to specify dates that you want to download?  If not, any other suggestions that would solve this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Hello, I've been on a bit of a journey the past week so I'll try to be brief and organized.

Last Tuesday, I added 2x4 GB of new RAM (same make, manufacturer, GBs, speed, etc. as the old RAM) and hooked up a second monitor (same as old monitor, though due to my GPU's available outputs the old one is on hdmi and the new one is DVI). Since then I have been having regular BSOD crashes, typically after 3-4 hours of consecutive use though on Sunday it managed to go 7 hours without crashing. I have had seven BSOD in the past week. There appears to be no common program causing them, I'll just be watching a movie, playing a game, or doing some typing when the crash will just happen.

For quick reference, the probable causes for each BSOD are listed in the minidumps as follows (from oldest to newest, I only thought to record the Stop data for the two most recent):

dxgmms1.sys
win32k.sys
HDAudBus.sys
ntkrnlmp.exe
atikmdag.sys
tcpip.sys Stop oxoooooo7F
hardware/dxgmms1.sys Stop oxoooooo3D (the minidump listed hardware, the actual BSOD showed dxgmms1.sys as the cause)

Trying to figure things out for myself, I first tried removing the second monitor after the second crash. When that had no effect, I tried updating my GPU's drivers through AMD Catalyst Control Center. Then I ran memtest86 for 10 passes with no errors (I've included a screenshot).

At this point I'm guessing it's a driver problem or something wrong with my GPU, since several of the minidumps seem to point graphics being t... Read more

There is a saying about using RAM ....

So I would suggest you to remove the additional RAM and see if the BSODs continue or not.

Let us know.

It's been years since I've had a virus or malware I couldn't shake on my own or with a little research, but this one seems really slippery.  It has infected both my and my wife's laptops. Whether that is because we share a wireless connection or because we've visited the same infected page, or some other possibility I do not know. Malwarebytes, Avast Anti-rootkit (both updated) found nothing, but TDSkiller and Trend-Micro Anti-Threat both turned up issues at separate instances under various names. I've been hammering at this for a week, and unfortunately I didn't keep very good logs of what I did because (foolishly, apparently) I thought for sure I could solve the issue myself no prob.

I reset Firefox (v. 28.0) as one site led me to check the troubleshooting information and there was indeed an unauthorized entry listed in the Important Modified Preferences (Conduit.exe and BackgroundContainer.exe if I remember correctly).

I've manually removed some suspect files in AppData and Registry.

It seems at least some of what I have done has slowed the pop-ups down. Day 1 it was fairly constant when I clicked links (sometimes even just clicking empty space or text boxes on a page), now it's 2 or 3 times a day I get a visible pop-up (Several other times a day I see a pop-up TRY to open but get killed, presumably by the pop-up stopper).  The visible popups cycle through about 4 ads, LinkBuck$, GREEFL, something with Cash in the name, and then another that ... Ok, new to the forum I keep getting 1a BSODs and the last one I got was a c1. I'm not sure where to go or what to do at this point. When I used BlueScreenView the common driver failure after activating verifier was ntoskrnl.exe. Any help is appreciated! I have had this rig for about 2 years now with no issue, and within the last week get a tone of BSODs (5+). I feel it is a software thing, but I wasn't sure and wanted to check here before doing a wipe and reinstall.

Hello and welcome darksurfer I would first up try these in safe mode if possible

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html

Then I would reseat all cards and sticks - you didn't mention what RAM you have and I would make sure you have the latest driver for the card and maybe do this

MEMTEST

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.htmlthis one you will need to make a bootable disk set the BIOSto optical (or USB if preferred) boot the machine and let it run for at LEAST 8passes unless the errors come up straight away. Takes fair time to complete andsome leave it running overnight.
