Preferred Solution: need help with shockwave flash on chrome.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I keep getting a notice that Shockwave Flash is not responding. So I removed it from Control Panel Add/Remove software. I still keep getting that notice. Where is it hiding. What else do I have to remove?

Hello, Thank you for spending your time assisting me with my problem.

When I open chrome and go to Yahoo, Gmail or Youtube, I get a yellow banner saying that Shockware Flash has stopped responding.
I have reinstalled Chrome, reinstalled flash, verified in chrome://plugins there is only one Flash entry, disabled all other plugins and tested, there are no conflicts in chrome://conflicts. I have done multiple Scans with Kaspersky, Spybot, Malwarebytes and Adwcleaner. All found items have been deleted, but it does not fix the problem.
The only way I can get Flash to work is be setting Chrome's settings to default, then Flash will work for a while, sometime it will stop responding within minutes, other times when I close Chrome and reopen it. This problem is not happening in Firefox.
This has started to happen after I allowed SearchLock to be installed, I was duped and thought it was part of Chrome. I have since then deleted it (I believe), by hitting the trash button in Chrome Extension. The only other extension I see running are from Kaspersky.

Any ideas on my next step, and whether this is an infection or not?

Thank you.

A:Shockwave / Flash not responding in Chrome

Hello -
SearchLock seem to be the latest in with Chrome when you add Flash Extensions
This is a basic removal for SherLock and many similar evtensions
Click the Chrome menu button on the Google Chrome browser
Select Tools > Extensions.

Look for any unfamiliar extensions like SearchLock and get rid of them by clicking on the Recycle Bin.
Always recheck your Start Pages are correct, and Reset them if not
If you have no luck, Uninstall Chrome browser and reinstall it, but read the Add-ons offered with extensions.
Many have extras included and you can always refuse them.

See how that goes -
EDIT - It is a "pushy extra" that is almost an infection, as it is generally unwanted.

I use Chrome, and for a while now Shockwave Flash has been crashing on me when I try to watch videos. If I restart my computer it will sometimes fix the issue temporarily, but eventually it will crash again. I've dug around for some solutions and found that in some cases people were able to fix their crashes by disabling the IDT audio codec, which didn't help in my case. What scares me about my error, which I've screenshotted below, are the strange Asian characters lining the error message. It makes me think that I should suspect something more malicious than just a simple Shockwave error. Malware Bytes and SuperAnti-Spyware scans come up clean, though.

Just a few other bits of information:
Videos from IGN are especially affected.
Also, sometimes the browser will lock up and become unresponsive when loading pages with lots of advertisements. It's as if the browser loads the site fine, but then stalls when it has to load "ad.doubleclick" or something similar... I assume just advertisements?

Anyway, should I just keep looking for a solution involving the IDT audio (or do you guys have one?), which is known to cause problems, or is this strange Asian character error message I've been getting a sign of undetected malware that I should be worried about?

Any help would be much appreciated!

The one thing missing from your list is reinstalling the graphics driver, which might be out of date or corrupt. Download the latest version from your graphics card manufacturer's site, or the VGA/display driver from the motherboard site if you're using onboard graphics. Install and reboot.

This is a short-term solution, it only works for the current video page or browsing session, and you need to refresh (F5) the page and restart the video for it to take effect.

Do you have the same problem in any other browsers, like IE or Firefox?

i know this might sound a little strange but i did some research and its the sound thats causing the crash but i found this and a few people confirmed that it worked if this doesnt work let me know ill do some more research
I've been struggling with this issue and ran across a discussion on the Adobe forum in which someone who seemed rather brilliant said to check security setting and put it to Medium. I checked mine, which was on Medium-High and switched it to Medium and voila! I am watching my video which formerly caused huge crash.
Probably won't help everyone, but worth one step in the process. Who knows, I may be back here again with the problem but for now, I'm happy.

A:Why does Shockwave Flash keep crashing for Google Chrome?

Install ATF from Atribune to your desk top - After it is installed (it looks like a trash can) Click on Run > Select All > Empty Selected - When finished Click Exit - This should help with Virtual Memory is too Low -Adobe Flash is now integrated into Google Chrome’s Stable channel by default. This integration will eliminate the need to install and update Flash Player separately. This reduces the security risk and issues related to using outdated versions. As of this week, your browser should automatically be updated with integrated Flash Player. To check, simply go to Tools > About Google Chrome. To learn more about Adobe Flash integration, check out the Chromium Blog post here:http://blog.chromium.org/2010/06/enabling-adobe-flash-player-support-in.htmlWith regards to Shockwave Flash crashes, below are a few possible causes of the issue and work-arounds that may help. These do not work for everyone; please only make changes you feel comfortable making.1. You may be on an outdated version of Google Chrome. Check if you are on the latest version by going to Tools > About Google Chrome.2. You may have an out of date Sony driver that causes the crash. You can try downloading the update here:http://dlv.update.sony.net/pub/vaio/download/EP0000166578/EP0000166578.exe3. Hardware acceleration of Adobe Flash may be causing crashes. I have a laptop (Lenovo W520 i7-2720QM, 8GB, Win7-Pro64-sp1), on which I have installed Microsoft Security Essentials and ZoneAlarm.
In the past few weeks, I have been having a problem with Shockwave Flash, which regularly crashes after a period of use (sometimes 5 mins, sometimes after over an hour of internet use), causing Google Chrome (14.0.835.202 m) to freeze up. When this occurs, I usually cannot resume Chrome and have to perform a reboot to fix things (the task manager lists 2 processes of Chrome for which I can't "End Process").
Looking around for advice on this issue caused me to suspect a rootkit infection, so I installed Malware bytes (v1.51.1118) and performed a full system scan, which was unable to detect anything (nor could MSE). Would someone please help me assess whether I might have a rootkit or other infection that MBAM cannot detect?

Also attempted uninstalling flash (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic394257.html/page__p__2225166__hl__chrome__fromsearch__1#entry2225166) which I was unable to do, and I also deleted my browser cache, but nothing has helped so far.

I keep getting a BSOD that I originally thought was down to Shockwave flash player trying to run twice, once in the browser and once from the computer. Disabled one, but I keep getting the BSOD. I've updated all drivers I can think of as being relevant, but no luck.

We have IE 6. Say a user goes to MSN.com. The ad on the right is a Flash object. Some of our users will see that object flickering when scrolling up or down on the page or when hovering their mouse over it. It's quite annoying. Almost all users are running Adobe Flash Player 9, but I think I've seen this happen on systems with Macromedia Flash Player 8 as well. Other systems don't have the problem. I've seen this happen on one system and not another while both seemed to have the same Flash objects installed.

Uninstalling all Flash players using Adobe's prescribed Flash Player uninstall tool seems to work at first, but users later complain again. Note that they just about always end up installing Flash Player 9 again, because sites ask for it. I don't believe I've seen this on any XP systems at all, including my own, but most of our users have Win2K.

Does anybody know why this happens or how to permanently fix it?

Thanks,
Hotshot309

A:Ie 6 - Flash Objects Flickering - Using Adobe Flash Player 9 Activex R28 (shockwave Flash Object V. 9.0.28.0)

More info: Adobe Flash Player 9, Macromedia Flash Player 8, and Macromedia Flash Player 10 all produce the same result--Flash objects that flicker when you put your mouse over any part of them. Moving Flash objects will flicker constantly while moving and stop flickering when the animation is done. SWF files (at least the one at www.stormwerks.com/linked/stuf/AYB2.swf) work without a problem when using Adobe Flash Player 9.

If I don't have Adobe Flash Player 9 installed, the Win2K machines prompt me to install them for almost any site that uses Flash (I guess most recent Flash objects cannot be viewed with the older Macromedia Flash Players).

Any suggestions?

Since last fall I have had a shock wave issue in FF, it would lock up with an applet saying SW had quit responding.  I would click stop plugin and a few seconds later all was well, it only happens on the initial start up and not all the time.  I thought it was just an FF issue, I was quite wrong in poking around the net it turns out "all" browsers seem to have the issue.  Not all people have the issue but a fairly high percentage.  I have tried the suggested fixes to no avail, wondering if others have had luck finding the cause/fix.

A:IE, FF and Chrome Shockwave issue

Last time i myself had problms with shockwave it helped to reinstall it.
I only dont know if this would help for you aswell (or already tried it)

edit: nvm this responce, a few topics down i see someone with the same problem and a fix is posted there that could maybe help.

Am suddenly getting a message at random times in my Chrome browser that "Shockwave has crashed" will a button to [Reload]. I have seen web pages that say it's because the Adobe Flash Player has 2 files and one needs to be deleted, but when I check Chrome for plugins, I do not have 2 Flash Player files. I have updated Chrome to the latest version. "Shockwave has crashed" messages still appear.

I notice this occurs only with videos from BabaMail, something I started using only a week or so ago. Today one of their pages contained malware (said "3 people have unfriended you" with a button to go to Facebook. . . which actually took you to some malicious site that was blocked by my Avast AV). Is BabaMail something to be avoided, or is it just coincidence that it happened with their site?

Hi Guys,

I've recently been to a website that required the newsest upgrade of Flash/Shockwave inorder for me to view its contents and offered me a link to upgrade it.
I followed the link where i was informed that the installation of both was successful.
When i tried to view the page agian, i got the same error.
I thought it might require a restart or something, and just passed it off for a day or two.
Now, in the last week, i've been viewing pages of all sorts telling me i need to have a newer version of Flash installed and again offering me the link, and have on more than one occasion followed it and been advised that the upgrade/intallation was succssful, yet not one single site i visit recognises this.

I'm baffled and frustrated at this stage ...

Anyone care to lend a helping hand ?

You might want to read my similar post couple of days ago in the All Other Applications forum. Had the same thing going on. No matter how many time is reinstalled the latest player, sites wouldn't play their videos. The problem ended up being a Java problem (corrupt files), not a Flashplayer problem. Check it out. I'm sure an expert helper will be along soon to offer other advice in case your problem is not quite the same.

In my emails and quite a few websites I am unable to load any images. All that shows up is an outlined box where the image should be and a small box in the corner that has a red square, blue triangle and a green circle. I was told to un and reinstall flash and shockwave players. I did that , restarted my pc and it still has not changed. I checked my email settings also to make sure that I did not have images blocked and I dont. What can be causing this?

Not being a chrome user I am not too sure about their plugins or add ons but have a look in them and see if you can re install your flash plugin.

Failing that, go here http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

I found for a long time Shockwave doesn't work very well on Chrome and Google offered no effective way of solving the incessant problem which destroys the usefulness of Chrome for me.

Now I find this may have been solved by going to the test page for Shockwave at http://www.adobe.com/products/shockwaveplayer/ and although it is offered to work only on IE and Firefox when I downloaded it and ran it the test page worked on Chrome as well as Firefox. I dloaded Slim version and after installation restarted. Went with Chrome to the test page for Shockwave at http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/ and it seemed to OK the Chrome installation too, running the Flash icon revolving OK..

For the moment the Shockwave failures Chrome constantly recorded before seem to have disappeared.

Does that make sense? (If so why doesnt Adobe say it is for Chrome as well?) I have an s3500t with Vista 64 and Chrome 17.0.963.56 m (the latest Feb 27 2012)

Hope so, because this Shockwave plugin failure has been a pest for a very long time.

UPDATE: YAY! It worked. HP now rockets ahead like it was born yesterday.

A:Solving Shockwave Crashes in Chrome

For Chrome users with glued up PCs: Since the execrable flaw of incessant Shockwave failure notices and glued up PC resumed a week ago, we searched again for a permanent solution and may have found it. An Indian has kindly posted a video which shows you exactly how to solve the Shockwave problem, and one can see why. There are two version of Shockwave Plugin which tend to be installed on Chrome, a Macromedia Plug In and a Chrome Google Plug In. Follow the Indianís instructions by typing chrome://plugins/ in your address slot for urlís and then clicking the + sign to open up Details (top right hand corner). Go to the listing for Chrome Shockwave plug in and Disable it. Go to the Macromedia Shockwave plugin and make sure it is Enabled. Close the page and your problem should be solved, without even rebooting. Then thank the Indian.

Based on the bugchecks, I would recommend you follow and complete the steps given below:1. If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop. Reset any changed values back to default and reset/clear CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS. Uninstall any overclocking tool as these can also be a reason of blue screens.

2. Uninstall your current antivirus software. It can be a cause of BSOD very often. Please remove it with its removal tool and use Microsoft Security Essentials in its place. Malwarebytes is a great combination with it. Go through this thread for more info.

3. Run Disk Check with both boxes checked for all HDDs and with Automatically fix file system errors. Post back your logs for the checks after finding them using Check Disk (chkdsk) - Read Event Viewer Log

4. Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker to check windows for integrity violations. Run it up to three times to fix all errors. Post back if it continues to show er... Read more

There seems to be several remedies but wondered if my forum friends had experienced it and could help.

Google is well aware that Chrome has compatibility issues with Flash. But they blame Adobe and Adobe blames them. So instead of finding a solution, these two arrogant companies would rather engage in a pissing match and do nothing.

I've posted about this in the past and was unable to get a strong resolution, but I'm going to try again -- maybe the technology has improved since then, and the problem has suddenly gotten worse (affecting almost every time I open a page with video on it). What I'm referring to is the "shockwave flash" crashes in Forefox. I'll go the page, the browser will stop responding, then after a few seconds, a box will pop up with the heading "Warning: Unresponsive Plugin" and some text about Shockwave flash being busy. Sometimes it resolves itself, but it still causes a significant delay (usually over one minute). Other times, it tells me that it has crashed and I have to reload the page. Either way, it's extremely annoying and makes my time online less productive. Any ideas on how to resolve this? Is there some kind of alternative to Shockwave Flash that performs the same role but with more stability? Thank you!
