Preferred Solution: when I click a link on google it brings me to some random site that wasnt the link

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, thank you for spending your time reading this and hopefully help me solve the problem I'm experiencing with my computer. Like the title says, when I click on a link after I've performed a search on google, i'll get redirected to another website. However it doesnt happen everytimes but very often. I only experience this recently. I tried couple of methods. I uninstalled my outdated java and used ccleaner to clean it up then I downloaded and installed the new java(JSE). It didnt help so I removed all of the Add-Ons on firefox through Tools > Add-Ons > Extentions. It still did not help. Also, the virus soft trojan rogue would pop-up sometimes with the message my computer is in danger and it would start scanning and I wouldnt be able to close it down and had to restart my computer. Using IE8. When I click a link instead of going to the right site it goes to some ad page. But when I go back to that link and click it again IE8 goes to the right site. Frustrating.

I'm using XP with SP3 updated,

I've run SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot, Malwarebytes Pro, and Norton 360 but found no fix, though they do find lots of cookies.

This has been happening for about a week or two. I haven't downloaded anything I can remember to pick this up but then my memory is fickle.

I did the searc with  "AdWcleaner by Xplode and it did find a boodle of stuff I don't recognize.

So, I'm now stuck.

OK guys, I've searched on the Internet for HOURS, and even looked at other people's solutions but the ones I've seen haven't worked. Every time I click a download link to Microsoft's website it will open for a second or two and then close as if the Internet connection has died (which it hasn't).

I have Windows XP Media Center Edition, if it helps. I use AVG Free 8.5.something, but have tried turning off the resident shield and even uninstalling it to see if it was blocking access in some way, but it had no effect. I've tried using IE8 and Chrome, but neither those nor my usual Firefox work using it. Windows Firewall is turned off and I have no other antivirus protection or firewalls, etc.

Yes, I've tried rebooting, I've tried every malware tool available and they can't find anything but the odd tracking cookie. I've tried the winsock command. Also, it's not my modem because another computer on the same network has no such problem.

For example, I can get to this page;

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...0B-F857-4A14-83F5-25634C3BF043&displaylang=en

but when I click download it fails. Also, websites that start "http://g.live.somethingorother" do not work.

Reaching the end of my tether. Can anyone help?

Hello,You say that you already fixed some entries in your log including O17 entries..So that's why it is confusing to know with what you are exactly dealing if you start to fix entries yourself..Please perform next..Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exehttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exeSave it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an additional file from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it, but allow it instead. Then you will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log.

Hello,

I am currently using my Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop. I am on the guest account because my main administrator account seems to be affected by a fairly intense virus.

when using my normal account i cannot click on any link without being sent to a random website. i can open up websites by typing in their specific url's but i cant go anywhere other than that page. (ex. when i open internet explorer my homepages come up and im automatically logged into my facebook account but if i click to logout of it i am sent to a random website)

i did a little research and came across 'combofix' and figured that would be the only thing that would work. i read thru a few of these threads about how i need to save it to my desktop and what not and i tried using it on my main account but when i clicked on the download link i was sent to a random website. i tried it from my guest account and it asked for the administrators permission by having me type in my main accounts password. then it told me i didnt have permission to download it.

i ,then, tried using my flashdrive. i used my dads laptop to copy combofix to the flashdrive. it took 30 seconds. no problem at all. i pulled up my main account on my dell and plugged the flashdrive in. i was given the option to open files in the flashdrive. i opend it. clicked on the combofix application and then it disappeared. it said my flshdrive was empty. i tried it again and this time i renamed it. same result when plugged into my laptop.... Whenever Microsoft Automatic Updates come to my computer...it screws up my IE 7 so whenever I click a link that goes to a .pdf file or click an e-mail link on a web page IE starts the process and then completely closes everything. If I reinstall an older version of IE (without tabs) all works fine. And sometimes...if i reinstall the newer version (with tabs) it seems to fix the problem. I also run RegCure to help cleanup. But after the latest auto updates...these cures don't seem to be working. The older version IE6 works fine..it's only with the newer IE & that this happens. Thanks

A:IE7 closes when I click a .pdf link or e-mail link

I don't use IE7, but does it have a Manage Add-ons in the Tools menu?

Check for the Adobe Reader add-on. I assume you have it already installed.

Also, check Adobe and see if there is a version/update for IE7.

Hi, I have problem with Google. After clicking the link, it redirects me to third party site. For example if I query "mobile" "phone", clicking on some links takes me to third party site that is relevant to what I searched for (in most case). It redirects me to Telstra homepage which is Australia's biggest carrier if searching for "mobile" "phone". It redirects me only the first time I click. Clicking again takes me to the desired page.

I have tried DrWeb CureIt, Malwarebytes antimalware, Spybot search & destroy but to no avail. Anyone help please.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!
Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hello,

I am getting redirted to other pages when clicking on links displayed in google. Usually it's another search engine which does it's own search seemingly based on the link that I clicked on in google, but sometimes it goes to a random site. It does this whether I use google with IE 7.0.5730.11 or firefox 3.6.13. When I use Bing to search, this redirect does not occur. When I look at recent pages, I usually see a redirect as the second entry. so hitting the back key just takes you back to the redirected page. The redirect, or possibly 2 "Loading" entries sometimes appear in the history before the "Current Page" (The first entry in history) appears.

Please help, if you can. Thanks in advance.

Phil

Hello,

Anytime I search for anything in Google or Mozilla I get redirected to other pages when I click on links displayed in google. Usually it sends me to another search engine but sometimes it goes to a random site. I usually see a redirect as the second entry. so hitting the back key just takes you back to the redirected page.

Can you help me?

Hello. This is my first time posting to the forum so if I mess up, I apologize in advance. When I click on a link in a Google search I get redirected to random sites. I also get prompted by the dialog box that warns about "Information being sent over the internet could be seen by others".

I have some experience in removing Adware/Spyware and have tried everything I know of to remove it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thank you

Hi Experts,

I started having a problem today on Google. In Internet Explorer 8 (ver 8.0.7600.16385) clicking on a Google url after a successful search like ----> Windows Technical Forums (which is how I found this great forum!), IE will not take me to any url I click on. IE won't start spinning like it does when it's going to a site, it just sits as though the url were plain non-clickable text.

In fact, even if I right-click on a url on a Google search results page and choose either Open in New Tab or Open in New Window the new tab just says Connecting... and never connects or the new window opens up blank and never populates. There is literally no activity at all, nothing spinning, just nothing happening at all.

Thankfully this only happens on Google.com and on no other sites but it's very puzzling.

Firefox works just fine, I can click on the same Google search results url to get here and it's works just fine.

Have never seen anything like this. Any ideas?

Robert

Hi, I'd appreciate some help with this problem. As you can see it'a fairly old machine which has been stable and trouble-free for years. I run AVG, AdAware, and Spybot weekly usually with nothing more sinister than cookies appearing in the results. The only odd result I can recall was W32.Small.ddx in the most recent scans ( found by Spybot, I think ).The current problem started a couple of days back when I was surprised to be taken to a different site when I clicked on a link in a list of results from a Google search ( as it happened, looking for reasons the computer was running slower than usual ).Thanks for any ideas to resolve this,John Williams.Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 2:22:37 pm, on 27/10/06Platform: Windows 98 SE (Win9x 4.10.2222A)MSIE: Internet Explorer v5.51 SP2 (5.51.4807.2300)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KERNEL32.DLLC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSGSRV32.EXEC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MPREXE.EXEC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\mmtask.tskC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSTASK.EXEC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KB891711\KB891711.EXEC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SSDPSRV.EXEC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KB918547\KB918547.EXEC:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXEC:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SYSTRAY.EXEC:\WINDOWS\TPPALDR.EXEC:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXEC:\PROGRAM FILES\GRISOFT\AVG FREE\AVGCC.EXEC:\PROGRAM FILES\GRISOFT\AVG FREE\AVGEMC.EXEC:\PROGRA... I've looked all over the place but I can't find any information on this as it's using generic terms so there's nothing specific to search for, apologies if this has been posted somewhere already which I suspect it has.

The issue I've seen three or four times now is that someone posts something generic on a friend's wall then appears to immediately comment on it with 'the link, hehe.. (google short link).  The first part varies, the one today is 'I dare you to edit this weird movie ?' but the second part is identical aside from the google short link changing.  I've used the Google site to see what the short link expands to which seems to be a different site each time, I've not opened the site but the only brief mention I found on a reddit thread claimed the page had a fake FB login to capture username/passwords.

As it's friends of friends who seem to have been caught by this, I've not been able to have a look to see how their account has been compromised - anyone familiar with this and know the source?

Thanks,
John

A:Facebook - 'the link, hehe' (google short link) - account hijack?

Hi there,It is a form of malware that spreads on Facebook via shortened links. Usually those are worms or malicious extensions in the browser. If someone got hit with this, it is best that you do a checkup on the computer with antivirus and antimalware software - if you need help, feel free to post in Am I Infected and we will be glad to help.Alex

Hello,

Many (not all) clicks on Google search results are being redirected to bad sites (link farms, porn sites).

I have run Spyware Blaster, AVG free version, and malware bytes, with no results. I ran a full scan with my anti-virus McAfee and no results.

I have since uninstalled spyware except for Spyware Blaster and Malwarebytes, since I read in other threads that you use that.

Here is the DDS text. Thnaks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Running Windows Vista and using Google Chrome. Now when I use Google for search and click on one of the search results it redirects to some other site, often another search result list which has some ip address as the web URL. If I hit back and go back to the Google Search results and click on the same link it will then go to the correct site.

Based on other posts I've seen, I ran Rkill, TDsskiller and then MalwareBytes all to no help. TDsskiller found a couple of items the first time.

Still having the same problem.

Where to go next?

Thanks.

Hello everyone. I'm very sorry for just being a new member and allready posting.
I felt like i needed to post this straight away as i've seen the technichal support given by the community
and as much i can be honest, this is the top website i found with the most fixes.
to anyone that will be interested in helping me, I appreciate it deeply - thank you very much.

Recently i left my computer to update a game ( world of warcraft ) overnight.
When i woke up I was confused why it was back to the login screen. ( im guessing it must have reseted )
So i logged in, couple of minutes later the wallpaper changed into something 'Warning your computer has been infected everything you do is logged'
so bla bla. So i ran a couple of AVG scans manage to find the thing it was something called b.exe ( been deleted ). now my wallpaper problem is fixed.
HOWEVER sometimes when i turn on the pc it's just a plain black screen with a curser in the middle a couple of clicks it will freeze ( it works after a couple of hard reboots).
Everytime i search something on google ( using firefox ) and click on the link it brings up a new tab with 'jump' title.
the computer also randomly freezes at some point.

This is my log.

Windows 7, IE - go to a church page and click on "worship online" and an OLD service comes up. It was not in my cache because I had never brought that out of the Archives section. It should and always did bring the current service up but if no service was going on, it had the statement - not broadcasting now. I have tried FireFox and the same thing happened. I can go to the other pages of that church with no problem but not the live service. They use LiveStream and as I said - no problems before.

Any suggestions I appreciate. Thanks

Hello,

1. When I click a link in the search results produced by Google I am redirected to a page different than the one the search results are supposed to take me to. When I click back sometimes it takes to another page instead of the search results. If I click back twice, then I can get back to the search results. After the first click back it usually takes me to site that is a domain name space holder. This situation is random and I'm not sure how frequently it happens. It happens in firefox and chrome.

2. Sometimes when I click a link on a site including this site, a random site will pop-up in another tab.

3. All of these pages appear to be random sites and I cannot tell if there is a pattern.

4. I ran Malware Bytes and Super AntiSpyware yesterday and they found some issues that were dealt with, but the problems (1 & 2) persist.

Thank you for your help in advance.

RELEVANCY SCORE 83.6

This is my aunt's computer, so I don't know all that details behind what's on it. (I don't remember iExplore, MBAM or COMOD being on the PC when I used it on Tuesday.)

It appears that she caught something (it appears to be Antivirus Scan based on the new bookmarks). It looks like she followed some instructions, used iExplore, then scanned with MBAM. But it still has the problem with Google links being redirected, and random tabs opening with ads or saying "Download Registry Cleaner". This is happening while using Firefox, as Internet Explorer is not used. It also looks like she downloaded COMODO Internet Security Premium after she used MBAM and Iexplore.

I ran MBAM again today and the results said nothing is infected. Here is the top part:

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.50.1.1100
www.malwarebytes.org

Database version: 5604

Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3
Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18702

Hopefully this is enough to begin the helping process. I appreciate any and all help.

Hello.Let's try this. Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Be sure to download TDSSKiller.exe from Kaspersky's website and not TDSSKiller.zip which appears to be an older version 2.3.2.2 of the tool.Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.
Vista/Windows 7 users right-click and select Run As Administrator. If TDSSKiller does not run, try renaming it.To do this, right-click on TDSSKiller.exe, select Rename and give it a random name with the .com file extension (i.e. 123abc.com). If you do not see the file extension, please refer to How to change the file extension.Click the Start Scan button.Do not use the computer during the scanIf the scan completes with nothing found, click Close to exit.If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results - Select action for found objects and offer three options.Ensure Cure (default) is selected, then click Continue > Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.A log file named TDSSKiller_version_date_time_log.txt (i.e. TDSSKiller.2.4.0.0_27.07.2010_09.o7.26_log.txt) will be created and saved to the root directory (usually Local Disk C:).Copy and paste the contents of that file in your next reply.~BladeIn your next reply, please include the following:TDSSKiller Log
