I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I turned off UAC, I turned off Malwarebytes, also Kaspersky Internet Security 2011.

This only started happening a few days ago after installing WINDOWS UPDATES.

I have NOT added any new software.

I have a 500 gb External HD that I have the backups overwrite the old one so as not to fill it up.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated,

Hi all,
Just inherited a pc, and bought a brand new 1tb hdd yesterday to install windows on. I was foolish at first by not changing any of the bios settings (was a long time since I have done an install) and just left it as it was. I got through to installing windows and it stopped at expanding files with the above error code, which I have heard is really common
Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation.
Now I am certain there is nothing wrong with the DVD, as it is the same one that has been used on two other PC's. I tried turning it off and restarting, that was when I got another error load up - Bootmgr is missing!
After this I restarted it and changed the bios settings to boot from the DVD drive. I tried doing a repair on this through the disc. Went through all the settings and typed Bootrec.exe/REBUILDBCD in command prompt but that came back fine. I tried clicking startup repair after this but it did not restart, so I just went through the motions and restarted it manually as by this point I was getting frustrated. Upon restart I went through and booted from the DVD, and it went straight through. This time I tried re-installing but deleted all the partitions on the drive which had appeared since trying to install. However the same error message has come up again. Anyone who can solve this for me, I be tempted to send you a box of chocs no matter wher... Read more

My computer was suffering from random bsods and viruses before. I atributed the bsods to viruses, but after reinstalling windows 7, I found that the bsods still happened. It seems to happen when installing drivers, or running prime95. Booting into safe mode allows me to pretty much do anything.

When crashing, it does a slow crash, where I can move the mouse around, but the startbar and any other programs dont respond. Explorer then crashes, followed shortly by a bluescreen.

A:BSOD Installing drivers after a fresh windows install, Code 0xf4

Sounds like a driver, take driver verifier test
Driver Verifier
I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Windows 7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it... Read more

hi I get an error code 0x80070037 when trying to installing windows 7 any ideas? I used another windows disc still get the error help

A:help getting error code when installing windows 7

There's some sort of hardware issue occurring. The error means that the device (i.e. storage device) is no longer available. Is this a new system or hard drive? You may want to try disconnecting the hard drive power/data cables from both motherboard and drive ends and reconnect them.

Also it might happen if your motherboard or whatever RAID card you have installed needs drivers to read storage drives connected too it. To do that you will need to have a USB available with the drivers or have them slipstreamed on the Windows 7 disc, then when setting up drive to install Windows click the "Load drivers" button and find and load them from there.

Hello bbackz

I think you should check your RAM

If you have more than one stick of RAM (256MB or more) swap them over or take one out and try again with only stick #1. If it does not help or makes things worse swap the sticks and try again with only stick #2. Running with one stick at a time will identify if you have a bad stick. Try moving the RAM to a different slot as well.

You can put either of these free programs on a floppy and test the RAM. Let them run for hours to do many passes if you can

Windows Memory Diagnostic http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Memtest on CD ( this is a bootable CD and can be used when you cannot access an operating system)

Use your CD burner to write it onto a CD as an ISO image

Test with only one stick of RAM installed at a time

Check in BIOS setup if you have an EFI BIOS. Is there an EFI Boot disk in BIOS boot order? If so remove it and set DVD drive to boot first. Look for another setting for Legacy BIOS to enable. Then wipe the HD with Clean command again and try install.

If no EFI BIOS, reset the BIOS to defaults, set SATA controller at AHCI to try install. Unplug all other HD's and peripherals.

Test your RAM - Test with Memtest86+ for 5-6 passes. Test your HD with maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan.

lately Iv'e been having trouble booting my windows 7 and decided that it's time to upgrade, I bought a copy ofr windows 8 64-bit from microsoft and burned it onto a disk using the windows 7 usb/dvd downloader. I was doing all this from a 32-bit and thus applied the bootsect.exe as needed. When i boot from the disk, everything runs smoothly. I insert the required code and select custom install.

At this point, i select the partitiion and proceed. as the installation proceeeds, it does not apear if the first phase of installation does anything, even after 5 minutes it stays at 0%. after it finaly switches to the next part, I wait again for the next phase, but it only throws up a message "windows cannot install required files. make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. error code 0x8007048F"

After multiple attempts I decided to reinstall windows 7, but now I get the same error.

Hi, I'm trying to fix my brother's Dell Inspiron N5030 because he couldn't get windows to boot after running startup repair several times.

So I made a WIN 7 bootable USB using Wintoflash, booted the usb, and ran the startup repair utility 2-3 times with no luck. Then I tried to re-install windows. When I selected his primary hard drive it had a yellow triangle by it and it said something like "drive may fail soon." I went ahead and tried the install anyway and at 5% it stopped and I received error code 0x8007045D. So I ran chkdsk, and it deleted many corrupted files, but i still get the same error code when installing.

I don't believe this error is the fault of the installer because I used the same iso, program, and flash drive to re-install windows on my laptop (which is the same exact model) without any issue. Also, after a little prodding, I found out that his laptop had a fairly hard fall right around the time that it stopped booting windows. So, after all this, I'm pretty sure the culprit is his hardrive. My question is: how can I be sure of this?

One thing to note: he had his current hard drive installed aftermarket because his original hard drive failed.

A:Error code 0x8007045D when re-installing Windows 7

Boot into BIOS setup to see if HD is detected. If not try reinstalling, check contacts, replace if necessary.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. (If an EFI BIOS you'll need to decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS. If UEFI follow these special steps for Install, otherwise enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module to proceed with normal install.) Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into Windows 7 installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10, or enter System Recovery Options to open a Command Box, type:

SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

Custom built my own computer back in May, and everything was working fine, then one day, updates kept failing and failing. I've gone through lots of Microsoft support pages but didn't find anything. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, verified. The OS is loaded on a Kingston v300 240gb ssd if that matters.

What happens is I go to shut down, and it will bring up the updates screen. 1 of 24, 2 of 24, and then it jumps to 14 of 24, then jumps to 24, then shuts down. I have a Gateway laptop M series that I upgraded to Win7 a few years back (o.g. Vista) has run beautifully ever sense. Recently installed Win8 fresh. Error code OxcOOOOOe9 became the issue. One day I decided to throw a fresh copy of Ubuntu on it for laughs ( I am currently getting my certs in networking and linux+) it works flawlessly. I have been trying to install updates on a new setup Lenovo Thinkcentre with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. All updates were successful except for Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems. A:Windows Update error when installing SP1 code 80070BC9

* First & foremost I recommend you only do a few updates at a time.
Set Windows to notify you of updates but YOU choose which to do & when.

* Certain Security software can cause updating issues.
To find out if 3rd party software is causing the updates to fail to install > configure the system to Clean boot and then check for updates.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

* You could also try resetting Windows Update Components.
To do this:
1. Click on the following link: How do I reset Windows Update components?
2. Click Run in the File Download dialog box, and then follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.

* Instead of using Windows Update try the SP1 Download:

I am on day two of trying to troubleshoot my Windows 7 Professional 64 bit w/ SP1 Clean Install from OEM System Builder Version. This is my Dad's PC that I built in 2010 with the same version of Windows that I installed previously. I decided to Clean Install his PC because I needed the OCZ Vertex 3 120GB & WD5000AAKX-001CA0 Caviar Blue 500GB from his system and needed to downgrade his PC.

The Original System Specs along with all Downgrades Below:
Case: Cooler Master COSMOS 1000
CPU: Intel i7-930
CPU Cooler: Replaced Corsair H70 Watercooler w/ Corsair H80i Watercooler
Motherboard: ASUS P6X58D Premium
Memory: Reduced Memory from 12GB Patriot PGS36G1600ELK GSERIES 1600Mhz to 6GB of the same.
HDD/SSD: Replaced the above mentioned drives with a Samsung 250GB SP2504C
GPU: Replaced BFG GTX 285 OC w/ EVGA Geforce 8800GT
PSU: Replaced Corsair HX850W w/ XION XON-600F14R-201 600W

Before beginning, I used disk management to delete all partitions on the WD 500GB. After finishing the build I proceeded to create a USB Boot drive (diskpart) via the Windows CD & Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool. Next I used my PC and disk management to unallocate the Samsung 250GB, and the OCZ Vertex as well (I think this was my demise). I then connected the Samsung, a DVD Drive, and inserted the USB into Dad's PC.

On first start the system started and Posted fine. Changed IDE to ACHI and Switched Boot Priority to USB. Saved, restarted, and checked to be sure it worked. Proceeded to Windows... Read more

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070490: Gears of War 4.Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80073CF9: Gears of War 4.Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80073CF9: Carcassonne.Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070490: Candy Crush Saga.Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80073CF9: Candy Crush Saga.

I've Googled this error and searched TenForums but found nothing to help. SFC /SCANNOW reports no errors, re-registering the Windows Store app does nothing, disabling BitDefender does nothing. Is any real help available, or do I have to file a scam report with PayPal since Microsoft is incapable of managing a simple software download?

Hey, new to these forums.

My laptop is having some crashing issues which I believe is due to a faulty installation of my current Windows 7. I want to re install it with Windows 7 Ultimate as a clean install. When I go to start up the installation and choose to receive updates, I get the error: "Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that the installation sources are accessible, and restart the installation. Error code: 0xE0000100"

From what I have read, this is due to a partition problem. Do I need to clear and format all partitions and boot the setup from a DVD? If so, how do I do this? Currently I am just running it using Daemon Tools Lite mounting software.

A:Trouble installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. Error code: 0x0000100

Hi there
you can try this

1) boot from Windows install / recovery disk and choose repair system ==>tools ==> command mode

type the following in

Now try and install again.

If you STILL get an error then get into command mode again via the Windows install disk

now type these commands in

Choose the disk you want to install windows on -- or the only disk if its a normal laptop

SELECT DISK X where X is the disk number

(This will re-format the entire HDD - you can easily re-size afterwards with tools like GPARTED).

Now restart and install Windows -- if it STILL fails then you've got something wrong with the laptop.

I have been having some recurring problems with the attempts to install some automatic windows updates.

Security Update for Microsoft Office Acess 2007
Security Update for Microsoft Office Outlook Junk Email Filter

I am not able to install these updates, maybe any other updates in general. After attempting the install the following install window says, "Windows Update encountered an unknown error." Next to it an error code 80070643. Microsoft provides a solution to the problem, by re-installing Microsoft NET. Framework. They also provide a link to the program NET. Framework cleanup tool that enables you to uninstall NET. Framework, and it's components.

I followed Microsoft's instructions to solve the issue, though I've been put at a standstill. I have used the NET. Framework Cleanup tool to uninstall NET. Framework and it's components (states that it uninstalls all versions, 1.1 SP1 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5.) Then afterwards instructed to reinstall NET. Framework, specifically in an order, 3.5 then, 1.1, then 1.1 SP1. I start with 3.5, then as the installation starts it says that to contiunue installation I must turn off or on windows features in the Control Panel. I do so and turn off all Windows features. Then continue and it again states to turn off features in the Control Panel.

I wasn't able to continue the process, and I am also concerned that this is the same error that made me unable to install Microsoft Security Essentials, (as t... Read more

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

You cannot upgrade from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version.

If you want the 64-bit version it has to be a clean install.

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Bug Blocks the Install on Some PCs

The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is now being released in stages to users across the world, so while some people might receive it faster than others, there?s a bunch of unlucky Microsoft customers who can?t install the update because of a critical bug.

Some users are complaining that installing the Fall Creators Update fails unexpectedly, and the only common thing in all reports is a hardware mix of motherboards using Intel?s X299 chipsets and NVMe SSD drives.

Clean install solves the problems
This means that quite a large number of systems could be impacted, as the issue can affect motherboards manufactured by Asus, MSI, and Gigabyte. It?s not yet known how widespread the problem currently is, but Microsoft says it?s investigating and return with a fix shortly.

?At around 22% completion, my PC rebooted and suddenly displayed my normal boot screen with a white text saying ?BlInitialization failed 0xc00000bb?, and I have absolutely no idea what this is. I tried resetting my SSD (Kingston 128GB) but this issue is so bad that it won't even let me do that,? one Microsoft user who turned to the Community forums to report the issue explained.

?At first my SSD was locked, then I unlocked it using commands in CMD but it all of the sudden disappeared and windows has no idea that it even exists. I tried resetting everything and all Windows tells me is "We ran into an error." ... Read more

A:Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Bug Blocks the Install on Some PCs

On a Lenovo w/NVMe, Intel IO and an immaculate pre-Fall CU system, I could not understand why the "upgrade" to Fall CU was so issue-laden: failures, duplicate downloads--ultimately it took though. A relatively decrepit machine w/SSD breezed right thru it. Noticed afterward, I had an extra recovery partition but since there were no outward problems, just let it go. Yesterday, Start menu and most taskbar items became unresponsive. So, I did a repair-install earlier today: the disk is back to the normal EFI/C/Recovery and everything works. For now.

Thanks for this info, not fun trying to figure it out.

Hello and thank you for having such an awesome site where all sorts of questions can be answered. This is my first time here so the next couple of questions might seem kinda weird. I recently had a rash of system freeze ups and crashes and after I got all that out of the way and taken care of, my CD-R/RW Drive failed to function. I thought this was odd and removed the drive for the old DVD-ROM drive I previously had installed(which worked like 2 days ago) and had the same problem. For my birthday yesterday I got a Sony DVD -/+ Drive and installed it into my computer and the Add Hardware Wizard recognized the drive but never told me that the drive was installed and ready to use or even finished the Add Hardware Wizard. Very odd I thought! When I go to the Device Manager to try and manually install the drive, I can see the drive under the DVD/CD-ROM tab but I get this instead :"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" What prompts Wndows to do this? I never had Easy CD Creator installed on my computer, but I did buy this off E-bay so I really don't know if the previous owner did! Can anyone help me as to why this is happening? Also when I boot up my computer, I get a screen asking which Windows XP Home I want to run, but I should only have one. How can I remove this to get Windows started without having to go through all of the hassle of pressing keys while my monitor is powering up? Thank you ver... Read more

"Error 2932.Could not create file C:\Windows\Installer\{DCCAXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX}\1033.mst from script data. Hello forum, I am in no way a IT specialist but I have done a few installations over the years and completed a few upgrades of the different Windows OS. Recently I had (3) different dell laptops with the same error error code 0x80070017, when the process get to expanding Windows %. I then wiped the hard drives completely and tried to install again same error. I then ran XP on them added the Service pack and ran Windows 7 again same error, which is weird they loaded XP no problem at all. I then used the same Windows 7 disk on my daughters Acer laptop and it loaded without any issues what so ever. This baffles me. I used this disc plenty of times and never had an issue what could be causing the problems now. Thanks for any information provided in the post.

A:Windows 10 Install Error Code: 80070005

There are a number of known installation problems for Win10 upgraders that don't correspond to publicly listed error codes.
It would be helpful if we knew the Make/Model of the computer you have the failed WinX attempt on, as well as the Build year if you know that too.
The main issue is what version of Windows did you attempt to upgrade FROM?  Your post didn't say.  Since we are missing this information, we will need it to further diagnose your problem.  In the meantime, if your computer came with Win7/8/8.1 pre-loaded on it, you shouldn't have that problem, and most likely you'll simply need to download the FREE ISO file for WinX directly from Microsoft's website and install from there via cd/dvd or usb media.
If your computer hardware was built prior to 2006, and it's an XP-era computer that was upgraded to Win7/8/8.1 you'll never be able to get the Win10 upgrade.  That's one of the reasons I'm asking you these questions.
Generally speaking, Microsoft has publicly stated in many online sources this week that if your hardware is capable of running Win7 SP1 or Win8.1, both the downloadeable upgrade to WinX and the clean install ISO file are guaranteed to work.
If your computer was built in 2006 or after, the chances are good that you can solve your problems by doing a manual clean install with the ISO file downloaded media as described above.  If you have a modern computer, and that's defined as ... Read more

Dear Sevenforums,

I just installed a new HDD by WD into a HP DV7T (2008), everything has been going well up until I tried to Update Windows. I did not retain anything from the previous installation as the previous hard drive up and quit on me!

I activated windows and had it confirmed as genuine.

I followed the instructions posted on another page and tried to install SURT and got an error: 0xc8000247.

I was hoping for some suggestions, Direct X , Java, MSE and Mechwarrior Online wouldn't install.

Perhaps a driver issue?

Have a great day all!
