Q: T460 - right click button getting stuck

Hi The right click button my T460 (just above the trackpad with a red line on it) seems to be getting stuck. I'm not sure if there is anything under there or its just broken. Is there anyway I can safely remove the button to have a look? Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I cannot scroll through pages using the trackpoint center button. I've gone into the mouse settings and ensured that trackpoint is set to scroll. I don't believe it is a hardware issue because if i set the middle button to work as a middle click, that works. I'm on windows 10 home and the synaptics driver I am using is   19.3.4.16(the latest to my knowledge). Does anyone know what could fix this? I've tried several troubleshooting solutions from the web, but none of them have fixed the problem.

Greetings all! Just bought a used Lenovo T460 and it's working very fine except that I have two problems. 1) The FN button isn't working.  At start it worked fine but after all Windows and Lenovo updates it stopped working. Keeping it pressed and pressing F1, F2 etc. buttons do nothing. I think that the FN button settings disappeared from Lenovo Vantage. When I started using the laptop I changed FN and F functionality from the Lenovo Vantage, but now I can't find the FN settings anymore.I also reset the BIOS settings and it didn't help. Changing FN an F buttons to work other way around from BIOS works, but then I can't use normal F buttons anymore (and the FN still does nothing). I also installed the special key application "Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 10 (64-bit) - Laptop" but no help at all.  2) The fingerprint authentication isn't working I have tried to setup Windows Hello fingerprint login. I can only scan one finger and the next ones won't scan ("Your device is having trouble regonising you"). The one finger that gets scanned ok won't work at Windows login no matter how I try. The laptop has on site support left, should I contact lenovo? All updates are installed. Thank you!

Hello, I just updated to the latest BIOS (1.12) using the bootable CD (r06uj38d.iso).The update itself seems to have worked out fine, most notably a white "Lenovo" on a red rectangle is displayed now when the system is powered on.However, since the update the system seems very slow, not just in the OS (Fedora 24) but well before booting, even in the BIOS and the boot medium chooser menus. While on AC power, I just had a look at the CPU frequency:$ sudo cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/policy{0,1,2,3}/cpuinfo_cur_freq
399937
399937
399937
399937 So, my CPU now is actually clocked below its minimal frequency:$ sudo cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/policy{0,1,2,3}/cpuinfo_min_freq
400000
400000
400000
400000 As AC power is supplied, it should be closer to its maximal frequency:$ sudo cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/policy{0,1,2,3}/cpuinfo_max_freq
2800000
2800000
2800000
2800000 I'm desperate for suggestions how to solve this properly as the system is almost unusable in this state ...  Best regards, unsympath

Man this feels weird. I'm usually the one giving help, not asking for it lol.

This problem started after I left my computer on sleep for a couple hours. When I woke it up, the touchpad taps and left mouse button clicks brought up the right-click context menu and nothing on the taskbar responded to the cursor hovering over it. Also for some reason pressing the Windows key on the keyboard wouldn't bring up the Start menu. The only way I've found to correct this is to plug in a USB mouse and press the right MB on it. I also was able to fix it one time by uninstalling the Synaptics drivers and letting Windows restart and find the mouse, but after trying to reinstall the Synaptics drivers then uninstalling them again after the problem reappeared this method no longer works. In either case left click functionality is restored but there is no right click functionality period on the touchpad/buttons. However the USB mouse that I plug in works normally. Also after left click is restored, everything on the taskbar and elsewhere responds as it should with the exception of not being able to right click on anything (which sucks in W7). I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Synaptics drivers to see if that would fix it but after reinstalling them and restarting, the problem came back. Another thing I've noticed is that even with the Synaptics drivers installed the vertical scroll area doesn't respond.... Read more

I have a t460 that has now had 4 systemboards replaced. All refurbed parts. No matter what the tech does, cannot get the tpm from showing MFG mode and unable to activate/deactive the TPM. Unsure if I am getting bad boards/someone in the depot screwing up when they are re-certifying these boards or what. I've tried googling but can't find much information on these systems. Anyone know of a way to clear this without getting another new board? I've already put in an escalation with Lenovo because apparently they didn't listen to me the last time. Is there maybe a jumper or some sort of reset button on the board to pull this out of this mode?

When I input something with my keyboard, the touchpad/trackpoint doesn't accept any clicking for about ~0.5 seconds. Its a small delay but it is driving me insane. T460 laptop, Synaptics Clickpad V1.1 Things I've tried:-  Reinstalling drivers, and restarting laptop. Nothing changed.-  Turned palm rejection to minimum. This fixes an earlier problem where the mouse would stop moving with keyboard presses, but it doesn't affect the clicking delay.-  Went into the registry editor, found 'synaptics' under 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE' but couldn't find any variables that indicate a delay after keyboard presses. I'd really appreciate any help with this. ~3 hours of googling isn't helping me. Thanks in advance.

Recently (in the last month) my computer has started giving me a double click on a single click of the left button.  This is very irritating.
It does this with both, a USB Logitech Track Man Wheel and with a wireless HID mouse.
I have tried adjusting the settings for the mouse but that doesn't seem to have any effect.
I have AVAST antivirus.  I have run Microsoft Security Essentials, Malewarebytes Anti-Malware, Spybot search and destroy, Super Anti-Spyware and Junkware Removal Tool.
I have updated all of my drivers and used Drive Booster 3.
When I click to close a window on Firefox it will double click and minimize the browser.
This problem is active in all of my programs that I run, not just the browser.
I have Windows Vista, 64 Bit on a Dell Inspiron laptop.
Does anyone have any suggestions.
I think this has to be a software problem, but I don't know how to correct it or which software is involved..
Thank you

Not sure how else I can title this post!

I have a new Dell Inspiron 15r as of this Christmas, running Windows 8. I ran the upgrade to 8.1 but I still have a problem with my cursor wanting to "hover click" on links or browser tabs, as well as being stuck in the down position, when I'm not even pressing on the touchpad left button. I end up selecting an entire region of stuff while moving the cursor across the screen.

I can't figure out what to change or configure in Control Panel, or is it in the Dell Touchpad configuration utility?

In Control Panel/Ease of Access Center/Make Your Mouse Easier To Use I have unchecked "Activate a Window by hovering over it with a mouse." Still happens.

It's driving me mad - never had this problem with Win 7 or any desktop machine.

Anyone? Thank you.

If you go into Mouse in Control Panel, then click Device Settings Tab.. on the right there's a Settings Button. I turned off the ones that say swipe. I also disabled rapid app switching. To do that press Winkey-q click Settings on the top right. Type "swipe" in the box. You should see a box on the left about rapid app switching. Click it and you can then disable it.

This is my first laptop also. The mouse gestures drove me crazy. About all I kept was tap click. Also I bought a $5 optical USB mouse and a $.97 mouse pad. I keep these in my Laptop case. When I have time and room to set up the mouse pad I feel much better about using the machine.

If I use the keyboard windows key it also will not open the start menu. How ever if I click ctrl+alt+del then either open the task manager or cancel out of ctrl+alt+del option I then have access to my start menu/button.At the same time I was having a problem with excel that when I click on any cell, the cell became highlighted and no functions would work. moving the mouse would only increase the selected cell size. My IT dept at work installed MS office 07 over my MS office 03 and the Excel problem cleared. I have the same problem in adobe acrobat, if I open a file I can use scroll through the document with my house scroll wheel or arrows. Again once I click with in the document a point is selected in the document and again only lets you highlight areas. In adobe and the excel 03 I could not even "x" out of the program. On my home PC I use a four button mouse with a scroll wheel. When I highlight a link on the internet browser, and click the wheel button, it will open the link in a new tab.

I've recently got a laptop with the touchpad, two left and right buttons, as well as a four direction scroll button (essentially four extra click buttons). I've tried changing the function of these buttons but I cannot find a way to replicate what I have on my home PC. All I want is a button which will open a link in a new tab in Firefox when I click it.

Anyone know what specific options I need to check to do this? Many thanks!

Hello,

I just did a complete repair installation of XP Pro from the installation disk followed by the usual updates including, most recently, SP3. I find now that when I right-click on Start to go Explore the hour-glass appears and Windows just hangs interminably and the Start button is no longer useable. The only thing I can do at this point is to manually power down. I can left-click on Start and go All Programs, but the other usual options such as My Computer and Control Panel are not shown. I had some problems on this old computer in the past that required me to disable the power saving functions such as standby and hibernate to get XP working. I forgot about this when I did the repair install. Any suggestions on where to start with this one would be much appreciated.

I did not know where to put this thread as the problem is really weird, so i apologize if this thread is in the wrong section.

I have a few problems that i feel somehow are caused by one main fault in my system. But ultimately, they all freeze the com. I'll list the problems one by one.

1. When i clear my internet explorer history (deleting cookies, autocomplete list all included), it takes forever and the cursor will turn into the hourglass. And when the process is done, i click the 'ok' button of course, but this freezes my IE. Then i have to use ctrl alt del to force close the program.
NOTE. This applies to many other applications too.

2. Another example of the first problem. I do some changes to my taskbar settings, and after i'm done, i click ok and it hangs. Again i have to force close the windows and the "program not responding" stuff will appear. Sometimes it will say something a certain kernel file having some problems, and i wanted to type it here, but that message doesn't show all the time.

3. When i wanna open my network connections window, be it from the system tray or from the start menu, it doesn't open. However, when i hit ctrl+Alt+del after this, the 'network connections" windows opens after the Windows Task Manager window opens. So i have to hit ctrl alt del everytime i open a window and its real'y bothersome.

My main concern is i seem to be having problems when i hit the 'ok' button on certain applications. Can someone find ... Read more

As of about 4 weeks ago I am unable to click the back button on any web browsing I do at all. I can hit the backspace button on the keyboard and the Alt+Left button and they work. I can also hit the recent pages dropdown and go back to the page I want that way. Also about 1/2 the time clicking on home does not take me back home to my homepage it just sticks on the page I am at.

I have ran a hijack this and don't see anything out of the ordinary, my a/v isn't finding anything in it. I don't run system restore due to the space it takes up. I also have ran superantispyware and spybot with it not finding anything at all. I have done all the standard browser things reset to default cleared all the internet files yadda yadda and still no fix.

While I have found ways around it I have clicked back so many years this is a big annoyance. Any thoughts on what can be causing this since scans come up with no issues?

Just recently observed that the right-click button on my touchpad is not working. This just happened today. I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NR280E laptop and am using Vista. I've checked the device manger, drivers are up to date, no yellow exclamation marks.

Here is what I've tried:

- reinstalled Original Alps Driver and restarted
- reinstalled Original Alps Driver a second time using Windows Back up and Recover
- made sure the mouse settings in Control Panel were correct

I think it could possibly be a hardware issue as pressing the right click key is not responding or opening any options, however, I haven't spilled anything on it or dropped it. My last option is to ship it off to Sony but my warranty expired a few months ago, and I looked at the price list and it is crazy expensive.

Please help!

Hi,
Need your help with this issue. The left clicker on my laptop is not working. I have tried checking the touchpad settings and it seems to be working fine. I have tried restarting the laptop too and still left click is not working.
What could be the possible solution for this?
Thank you.

Hi! Please Help Me...

We´ve just buyed a new DELL desktop PC... Everything was working fine, but now when I am filling some registration forms on certain web pages, I click on the CONTINUE or SEND buttons and on the message bar at the bottom of the IE page I can read Java Script ( ... and that´s all... Nothing happens with the page... I refresh it and still nothing happens...

I have tryied changing some java settings, but still nothing seems to work.. I know for sure this was a one day to another thing because I had used thos web pages before, and they worked fine... and now I can´t seem to continue...

Can someone help me with this?

Thanks a lot!!

A:Java Script Doesn´t Let Me Click Button

That may be an issue with the website. You can try another web browser or make sure IE is up to date. In my experience if javascript shows up on the page, it's one of 3 things. 1) your web browser, 2) their web server, or 3) bad coding (something as simple as a typo).

How can I simulate a left button mouse click without specifying the handle of the button that it is clicking. The following works if I want to simulate a click on the command1 button.

y = SendMessage(command1.hwnd, WM_LBUTTONDOWN, 0, ByVal 0&)
x = SendMessage(command1.hwnd, WM_LBUTTONUP, 0, ByVal 0&)

However, I am using the SetCursorPos api, and I would just like to send a mouse down/up command to click at the point that I specify. How can I do this?
