No video input on monitor, cant see POST, HDD sounds ok keyboard lightcan toggle

Q: No video input on monitor, cant see POST, HDD sounds ok keyboard lightcan toggle

last night was doing some video editing when bam screen goes black. Rebooted - i can hear the HDD working, but on my monitor it says "No Video Input" - after a while, i hear the windows chime turn on, my keyboard caps lock can be toggled but no display - so i assume it was able to post and load windows but just no display

- rebooting did not work, same as above

i've reseated ram, components, tried video card on another pc - worked - tried monitor with another pc - worked, moved video card to another slot - same problem
disconnected all power except for boot drive, video and normal motherboard connectors

reset cmos, remove battery,

same effect- i know it is booting, ram test with mobo elicits the right number of beeps
scoured the web for answers, it turns out this seems to be a common problem but no common solution -
only thing i haven't tried is replacing ram

so posting it here in case some of ya might have an idea or two to check out

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'd say the power supply may have failed such that it no longer provides enough power to the graphics card even though it can supply some power to other parts of the PC. A 450W or greater PSU is recommended for the Radeon HD 4850.

This started when my monitor began to have scribbly swiggly lines and then windows would crash, followed with a BSOD (attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed) with a 0x00000116 stop code, and nvlddmkm.sys.

Every time I logged to windows, this would happen again within 10-20 minutes.

I tried updating my nvidia driver, no luck. Tried reverting back to an older nvidia driver, no luck. Same thing happens.

Boots into safe mode, no problem, but eventually even safe mode began showing swiggly lines in the background, but it doesn’t crash, and I could still navigate everything fine. So I backed up everything there. Due to problems of getting the safe mode prompt to come up, I ended up making it boot to safe mode by default from the control panels boot option.

I decided to disconnect and reconnect my video card, and also ram, dust out the insides, reconnecting everything to see if it helps. And install display driver uninstaller if I was able to boot back in to wipe out any residual drivers if that might be the cause.

However, after I reconnecting everything, the computer now won’t even boot or POST. It doesn’t beep when I turn it on. It powers on fine, all the fans spin. PSU, CPU and video card fan works. My monitor has no input signal and goes to standby. Mouse and keyboard connected. Tested my monitor in two other computers, it works fine. Temperature indicator on my case are all normal.

A:Will Not Boot, or POST. Monitor has no input signal.

It's the ram.
Try with just one stick and if that doesn't work, try it in another slot.
If you have contact cleaner or alcohol to clean the contacts, both on the ram itself and the slots, that'll be worth it's weight in gold.
Naturally, there's always a chance that it's something else that is not properly seated, so you can check the GPU and the main 24 pin connector to the mobo.

PS: Please double check your ram sizes. Surely you have more than two 256 meg sticks.

It sounds to me like 2 things:

Either your gpu (I suspect the most) or your psu is slowly dying.

Replace with a known good part (or use integrated graphics if you have it) at a time and see what happens.

In February 2012 I bought a desktop PC in the firm Gorenje and both summers I had some issues with it.

The first summer I was making a video for a friend of mine using Windows Live Movie Maker, my computer crashed in the middle and I got the blue screen of death, that was the only time that year that my PC gave me the blue screen of death. I had no other problems that year.

And hen this year I got this.
The first one was when one of my hard drives ran out of space somewhere in July, I asked my uncle if he could help me figure out what was wrong and he found out that safety copies were clogging up my hard drive, I wasn't there when he was fixing it so I don't know what he did, then my PC was working like it should.

Until now somewhere in the beginning of August. One night it randomly turned itself on, I always keep it in sleep mode, and I was about to turn it off when it turned itself off, I just shrugged it off and went back to bed, then a few hours later I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep so I decided to just browse the internet for a while, I tried to wake it up from sleep mode by pressing the space bar, but it didn't, then I though that maybe the powers went out some time in between so I tried to turn it on only to find out that it was in sleep mode. I then tried to log into Tumblr but the keyboard wasn't working, the mouse was working. I checked in the back and no cables were pulled out, so I thought I'd reset it, but it then crashed and I got th... Read more

A:Keyboard not working, blue screen of death, monitor saying there's no input.

One step at a time !

Make sure your computer is switched OFF, then pull the power plug out for at least 30 seconds. Plug it back in, switch on the computer.

Do you see the BIOS screen?  Does the computer then start normally ?

If you don't see the BIOS screen, are you getting any lights on the front panel showing on, or flickering ?  The power light should be steadily on, the hard drive and optical drive lights should flicker. If the power light is not on, you may have a faulty power supply.

If you get to see the BIOS screen and the display then goes blank, restart and press the 'F8' key while you can see the BIOS screen. This should bring up the 'Boot Options Screen' which is a black screen with white text on it. Use the Up and Down arrows to select the option 'Last Known Good Configuration'. This should start your computer in a condition before this trouble started.

If it doesn't, post back and tell us whether or not you could see the BIOS screen, and give the make and model of your computer. And for the future, don't put your computer to sleep when you are not using it - turn it off.

I want to use my laptop to watch tv, but I don't know how to input video signals into my laptop's monitor..

I really need your help, thanks a lot!

A:How can I input video signal to my laptop monitor?

Welcome to TechSpot forums

It is unlikely that the laptop's video capability has a video in connection. So unfortunately I doubt this is a possibility. One of my workmates does have a USB tv card device which feeds a TV signal into the computer and this works with a laptop (aerial connects to device, device connected via USB connection to laptop).

Something like the devices for sale from this website would be required:
http://www.snapstream.com/buy/buy-tunerusb.htm

If you post details of the laptop model we will be able to confirm whether it does or does not have a video in capability.

If you think you might stick around at this forum please feel free to post a hello message in the Introduce yourself forum

What use is the Digital video input (DVI)? My video card just has the old fashion output for a monitor connection. I am thinking if i get a new video card for my computer that has a DVI output, i could connect the computer to the LCD monitor DVI input...and get a better picture. True?

My Dell LCD flat screen started saying "no video input" all of a sudden. It did that once or twice and then it just went to a black screen. I tried restarting and still nothing. When I restart the fan just blows really hard and the computer makes weird beeping noises. I plugged monitor in to another pc and it worked fine so it's not the monitor. Is it the graphics card? The computer seems to start up. Everything was working fine up to this point. Runs XP. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I recently purchased a Chaintech Geforce FX5500 256MB DDR AGP 4X/8X video card from newegg.com. Additional stats:

DirectX: DirectX 9
DVI: 1
Max Resolution: [email protected]
Memory Clock: 400MHz
OpenGL: OpenGL 1.4
TV Tuner: No

I've been using an old Geforce 2 32MB card (don't have the specifics at the moment) and it was working fine, albeit sub-par for new games (namely Guild Wars). I'm using an ASUS A7V133 Socket A motherboard, 200/266MHz FSB AGP Pro/4X (if you need any other info or specs let me know and I'll provide what I can).

Long story short: I correctly and safely removed the old card, input the new card, and nothing happens. My monitor says "no input/check cables". Obviously, something is going on with this card. I'm not sure if the problem is with the card itself, or its compatibility with my motherboard. I'm not a genius when it comes to pc hardware (that's why I'm here) and basically I have two questions:

1. If this video card can work with my motherboard, what do I need to do to get it to work?

2. If this video card cannot work with my motherboard, what's the best video card I could buy that would be compatible with what I've got? Also, considering the motherboard I DO have, if I indeed I need to replace this card again, what should I look for so I don't order the wrong thing?

I have a Dell D610 laptop w/ XP Pro SP2... or had.

I have a corrupted registry entry hosing the keyboard input. The mouse works fine up until the point when I kit the first key on the keyboard when under the Graphical Windows interface. After I hit any key, the mouse freezes as well. This happens if I use the laptop keyboard or an external keyboard connected to a PS2 jack.

I have performed hours of troubleshooting and it is not the keyboard hardware. Keyboard input works during all non-graphical UI (BIOS, Recovery Console, etc.). I even removed the drive and plugged it in to another computer. I made a copy of the WINNT\system32\config files (sam, default, security, system, software) and replaced them w/ a copy of these files from WINNT\repair. The computer boots to Graphical Windows and I am able to type in this session just fine.

How can I "erase" the keyboard driver corruption in the registry (or perhaps a corrupted driver file or set of files)? The problem is that I can't boot the system to a point where I can edit the "corrupted" keyboard entries. I can't use the Recovery Console because I don't have the Administrator password. So I tried to install SP3 from a bootable CD. The minute it asks me to type in the Product Key (a graphical dialog box), input is frozen a the first keystroke (even a key like Caps Lock). Can I actually edit the registry that resides on the boot drive while it is connected to another computer? Any other suggest... Read more

I have a tablet computer that requires the wacom tablet pc drivers for the touch and pen functionality to work. In windows xp I was able to load the drivers in win xp pro and have the functionality of touch but without the need or want of a virtual keyboard.
Now my company is wanting to upgrade our tablets to windows 7 and I want the same setup. Touch and pen functionality with no virtual keyboards. The problem I am now having is when the wacom drivers are loaded on the windows 7 tablet, a virtual keyboard toggle button
is now in place at the windows logon screen and it gives me the ability to toggle the virtual keyboard at the logon screen. I do not want this toggle button or any virtual keyboard and I cannot disable it at this point. I disabled the windows virtual keyboard
that is used during windows operation but I have no way of removing this keyboard at the logon screen other than toggling back and forth. For security reasons I need this functionality removed. Wacom states that when their drivers are installed on windows
7 that it unlocks some embedded features in windows and after some testing I tend to agree. Now I need a remedy to this issue so I can proceed with my image and eventual deployment. Any help would be appreciated.

Windows automatically updated last night before shutting down. When I turned on the computer this morning, the HP w2207h monitor was not functioning properly. Each time I rebooted, I received the message "HDMI Input: No Input Signal" before the monitor went to sleep.

I do not believe it is a problem with the sleep and display settings as I have dual monitors and the EN9910 is functioning properly; both are set to NEVER anyway. Further, I have plugged our SONY television into the HDMI port and it works just fine.

I have also plugged the monitor into another computer, using the same cable, and both worked just fine. The hp monitor also functions in the utility mode. Problem seems to exist only when Starting Windows.

This has happened once before with a Windows Update, but I don't recall the solution.

Please help.

Thanks.

Hello and welcome aspen can you just make sure the driver for that monitor is ok.

Software & Driver Downloads HP w2207h 22 inch LCD Monitor | HP? Support

But mate I also think you may have answered it yourself in another way. Can you remember when this started happening? If so system restore back to before that date.

Then it is just a matter of downloading any updates if this is what is - one or two at a time until you find which one is the culprit. Make a not of that one and each time it comes up untick it to download / install.

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now liik to see if your system is even adding it to the device manager / now it may depend on what type it is (usb or a seiral port device ) so you may need to look at the usb driver or the imaging devices of the device manager

Hi, I hope this is the correct place for this!

I'm trying to start an LP series on Youtube but I'm having difficulties. I am recording with Fraps, and it records my voice fine, but not my game sounds (or for example, if I'm in a Skype call, it will not record the voice of the other person). I have tried messing with every setting I can think of messing with and I've been agonizing over this for months. I just can not get it to work.

I thought it may have had something to do with having onboard sound, and was going to buy a sound card, but now I'm not sure. Next I thought it could be related to my using a USB headset, so today I bought a proper microphone and some speakers. No luck, plus when I play Minecraft the sound coming out of the speakers is scratchy, screamy, and horrible. It sounds like the devil is in my speakers - and it's only Minecraft that does it (as far as I can tell)

Does anyone know what causes this? Is it some kind of XP limitation? I really need to get this working. I'm at a loss! Thanks for any help.

I have a problem with my PC. It won't "wake up"! after sleep mode.
I've tried a few things, but nothing has worked.

So I would be really happy to get some help!

Yesterday I accidentally put my computer into Sleep Mode,
Even though I meant to turn it off entirely.

Now 2 days have passed and I've still NOT been able to get it working again.

When I press the power button, some lights turn on and things start spinning.

The monitor switches on, then says "No Video Input", "Returning to Sleep Mode".

I've opened the side of my case, so I can verify that things do indeed turned on;
at least to some extent. The screen however, remains blank.

There are also no beeps of any kind either. The fans are all spinning properly.
The yellow light on the motherboard is lighted.

However, the blue light on the power button isn't blinking as it usually does.
The lights on the keyboard, (I.e. Numlock) isn't lighted up as well.

My computer specs are stated in the image attached.

My monitor is a Philips, and I know it's working properly because I hooked it up with my laptop to check.

I've tried :
- Restarting, many, many times.
- Unplugging, and then holding the power button for 30 secs - 1 minute as some forums suggested.
- Unplugging the power cords and plugging it back again.
- Turning off all the switches, and leaving it for one night to cool.

USB, even USB3 was never meant for transferring large amount of data needed for HD video, too much conversion has to be made. Laptops are limited by number and type of outputs but desktops can accommodate multiple video cards and even basic cards with Display port that use power of existing GPUs to provide video signal to more monitors or TVs.

Are the sounds like a hissing or scratching or more like a purrring........Sorry, I couldn't resist. -- Have you tried connecting a different keyboard? This way you would know if the keyboard is broken or if the cat set off a combination of keys that codes something into the PC.

i had recently built a new computer. after installing windows 7 everything was fine, except for during start-up it'd say 'no keyboard deteced'. which it wasn't detecting it because i couldnt acess bios during this. once i came to the windows log in screen, it was then reading the keyboard.

a few days ago i had a power outage during a thunderstorm and now a screen appears when turning on my computer giving me 2 options somehwat like 'continue start up' and 'enter a set up'. these are extremely general ideas of what it says but its not the usual 'start windows normally' screen. i would look but i'm currently at work since i cannot access the internet at home due to these problems lol.

the problem with this screen appearing is that since it is not detecting my keyboard at post, i have no where else to go. i've tried every usb port, as well as a ps/2 keyboard.

i either a. need to figure out how to get past this screen or not have it appear at all or b. figure out how to get it to detect my keyboard.

if you have any suggestions or info i'd really appreciate the help.

thanks.

A:odd post/bios screen, plus no keyboard detected @ post

you could try removing the CMOS battery on the motherboard and using the jumper to reset the BIOS to factory defaults.

Always us a known good PS/2 keyboard. USB is OK after you have everything setup but unless you enable Legacy USB support in the BIOS the USB keyboard may not be seen by the BIOS (I've had this exact problem).

If the PS/2 keyboard is not seen when plugged into the keyboard PS/2 port move it to the PS/2 mouse port.

After finally finding out that GET is passed through environment variables and POST is passed through STDIN, I managed to feed my script GET data through Command Prompt (I use Windows Vista (I know, it sucks.)), and I got it to accept POST data through STDIN. But even though it accepted the data, it obviously didn't use it when it processed the script, because it returned an error message stating that the subscript did not exist. I got the same error when I tried doing it using an AutoIt script.

What am I doing wrong? I'm pretty sure that I set all the non-optional environment variables properly!

Please help me!

motherboard - asrock a88m-g/3.1
gpu - gtx 750 ti
cpu - am fx-4350 (not sure though)

my monitor won't detect an input from the gpu, and it isn't a cabling issue. i have no spare parts to test this with, so if at all possible i'd like to figure out what's wrong with it without taking it to a repairman or replacing parts needlessly.

the monitor won't display anything on screen, and will only show that it's trying to detect an input, then shuts off. it started humming a few months back, and sometimes i need to fiddle with the HDMI because no audio will play from the monitor. it's about a decade old.

i ran a stress test on my GPU a few months back and it passed. there's no artifacting / strange displays on anything; the only things maybe relevant are that on the night before my PC broke, i had a lag in an online game i was playing, but i was also streaming music at the time... the lag stopped a few minutes after i turned off the music and more or less went back to normal, so it's unclear if it was just a poor wifi connection or my GPU really dying.

the motherboard i only suspect because at the same time as my PC refused to display an image, one of the case fans stopped working. however, the case fan isn't broken, the pins simply won't register any fan in that slot now. i can turn my PC on with the start button, but i can no longer force it to turn off.

some things that may or may not be important:

Hi, something seems to be wrong with my windows media player. I cant watch videos that I downloaded or have but can watch a DVD movie. Every time I try to watch a video that I downloaded or have, no video appears but has sounds. Whenever i try watching a video, a message in the buttom left appears "error downloading codec". I tried watching a DVD movie and it worked. I don't know why only the sounds comes out but not the video. Please help me. Thanks.

A:Problem when watching a video in Windows Media Player: No Video but has sounds

You don't have the right codecs. I suggest just downloading VLC. It's better than WMP for video playback, even with the right codecs.

Dual boot (windows 10/8.1) via two drives.   Kept defaulting to sata1 (windows 8.1).  Bios had 5 entries for "windows boot manager" that did not identify the drive or sata port.   within bios, I used the restore defaults and reboot option. Now system wont post.  I unplugged system and all drives and usb, internal cards...  still wont post, nothing on screen, no beeps, or keyboard lights. After 30 seconds, fans run full speed and sound like vacuum cleaner. Core i7 with 16 gigs ram and was very stable.

I have a Laptop (Specs up to date on Profile), which I want to connect to a Phillips CRT Television.
The connection between the two is a THREE cord chain. Beginning with the Laptop's (7 Pin - S-Video output) and ending with the TV's (4 Pin S-Video input), The 3 cords go like this: [1] [2] [3]

[7pin>>Yellow Female Composite] >>> [DOUBLED ENDED Yellow Male Composite] >>> [Yellow Female Composite>>4pin]

Is this configuration even possible, and if so, how does one enable the graphics card to send out the signal?

Dear TenForums members,

I have had this problem since I thought I had solved the chinese input. But, it turned out to be available for a few hours and then the IME is unavailable until next sign in.

In brief, to get the chinese input back, it need to sign out and sign in back and it will going to happen again continually.

Please tell me how to fix this.

Thank you.

*Picture above shows when it's unavailable.

Steps that don't worked for me:
- Alt + Shift
- Win + Space
- Setting the Chinese language as default language (worked for a while)

Hi, I think you may be able to resolve this by going to the control panel here:
and setting your desired input method as 'override' rather than 'Use Language list'

Hi,
We bought around 15 KM 636 Mouse/Keyboard combo sets.

Some of them have input lag issues. It wont type anything for 2 - 5 seconds and then all of a sudden it will type everything at once. If the user is constantly using the keyboard it seems to work and only seems to lag if its left for x amount of time.
We are using mainly Dell Optiplex 3040

What can I do to solve this?

Thanks,
James

The keyboard on my X1C has been driving me nuts, causing lots of typos and requiring a fair bit of re-typing. I've done some further investigation and found that there's a definite lag associated with the keyboard, especially when CPU speeds are below ~1GHz (ie typical speeds for productivity work). An external keyboard seems unaffected and the response time seems similar to any other machine I normally use. Is there some way to resolve this, even if it involves having the CPU run at a minimum 1GHz and accept the decreased battery life?
