Q: Yoga 14 20FY crashing and poor performance

I have had this ThinkPad for a little over two months, and to my desmay it has been performing very poorly, and constantly crashing. I only use it for business and school, I'm not running anything crazy on it. However I do have Adobe after effects, and photoshop, but the poor performance happens while using simple programs such as excel, word, etc. Please advice.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

Hi, I have a new Yoga 510 with AMD.However the graphics performance is poor especially the fonts inside certain windows look wet and less sharp.For instance in Device Manager window.Is there anything that adjustable to make the graphics screen looks sharp with quality view? Or, cannot do anything as its graphics really bad? Hi, I bought myself a Yoga 510 ISK14 for christmas and I'm quite happy of it.I've upgraded it to 8Gb of RAM and 500Gb of SSD. But Wifi performance is awful. I can't get it above 6 Mb/s I tried to upgrade drivers, but it seems the problem comes from the chipset.Do anyone else encounters such a behaviour ?How could I get the maximum Wifi performance from my Yoga ? Thanks a lot for your answer

Hello, I am experiencing a problem with my yoga 370 When plugged to lenovo docking station on usb-C, it work fine however, when pluged to an USB-C power adapter (45W), or an external battery (USB-C - 45W as well), il says it is charging, however : - it is not (or very slowly) - I am experiencing significant performance drop (laptop using only 10% of CPU power , opening windows setting menu takes more than 10 seconds !) I just cannot understand why this is happening, USB-C is supposed to be pretty standard, isn't it ? AND I found that : - lenovo chargers are clunky, having a smaller USB-C (apple like) one would be much better  - having a spare battery is a must for long flights, ... Any ways to solve this issues I seems, according to the link below that this is a bios issueany comment on this ?https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga/ThinkPad-Yoga-460-Big-loss-of-performan... thanks a lot

Hi all, I just installed yesterday the new verison of a famous card games (MTG arena) ...I'm very surprised of the poor video performance of the game even with very low video game parameters It is a cards game ! not a 3D game like star wars battlefront II )))the game ask for 1GB VRAMthe intel 520 could grow up to 1,5 GB on the main RAM of the computer (i have 8 gB RAM !!!) I first checked the drivers and installed the lenovo service bridgeGraphic pilot was up to dateReminder : no possibility to install directly the intel driver  I checked the battery parameters in the HD 520 menu and set maximal performance I then go to the bios and saw no possibility to raise the VRAM of the gaphic chipset  I then installed the SISOFT SANDRA benchmarkI ran it (GPU cruptograme test) and compared to SISOFT saved results on their website My score is only 30% the SISOFT saved result !!! Is there something more to do or should I change my computer ???(and not for a lonovo one, if intel chipsets are under performing .... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Thankx in advance for your help

I have constant stuttering of windows gui after installing Creators Update. There is stuttering in games as well , though there aren't any drops in FPS. I have the latest Intel Hd drivers - 20.19.15.4642. Nothing helps, even rolling back to the earlier driver.It's a common problem with Creators update. Does Lenovo have answer for this issue?

My question: If there is dust on the videocard and fans or other poor condtions in my computer, can it affect performance in gaming? FPS wise?

I think any build-up of dust can lead to poor performance due to heat. And heat can lead to crashes, BSODs, etc.

I am currently typing this on a bluetooth keyboard attatched to my phone...  Thank God for the keyboard.   Anyway my laptop is obviously down.  It started off where it wouldn't turn on at all.  I simply got 3 lights on the thinkpad when plugging it in, and two lights when trying to get it to turn on.  Then after letting it sit for a while, it would turn on and boot up, only to shut off after 20 seconds or so...  Then it finally booted all the way up, and I was extremely happy...  I even journaled about how happy I was on my journal software on my computer, but after shutting it down all that happens is a solid thinkpad light when I turn it on, and the keyboard flashes like normal then...  no screen comes on.   I thought to myself, at least I have a backup tablet...  I guess I had it sitting in its case too long because it seems that the battery is gone on it and wont even turn on so I am left using my tablets keyboard with my phone to write to you fine people.  Like I said, I am very grateful for this keyboard making my situation much more bearable. Please help.  I am thinking all signs are pointing towards some sort of motherboard failure, but am hoping that there is a wizard in the forums that may be able to wave a magic wand.  I have already pushed the static discharge button around 101 times.

I wanted to know if this was a known issue with this model.  Since I bought this system last November, the display has been a problem.  Besides, what I consider to be severe, light leakage in the corners of the display - any time I even slightly touch the back of the display assembly to adjust the angle there is an extremely noticeable rippling effect in the display.  I have never seen a display with this severe of a ripple effect.  I've sent the system in twice for service and I don't think the technician understands what the issue is or the person that wrote the ticket did not explain the symptoms correctly.  On top of the light leakage never getting fixed, it seems the rippling effect has gotten worse every time I sent in the system.  I have extended my warranty in the hopes of getting this issue resolved one day but I can't seem to find anyone that has had a similar issue.

Weird issue, my Yoga 14 loses the active pen if I switched to Yoga mode.  It can also lose it if it comes out of sleep.  A reboot brings it back so I don't think its hardware.  Once its back it keeps working unless I switch from Yoga mode or back to regular.  Any ideas?

I just purchased this laptop, I like it alot.   Using the HDMI port and the mini-display port, can I have 3 displays?   The internal touch screen, and then also the moniitor on the HDMI port AND a different monitor on the mini-display port.   That would be 3 displays. I'm just getting into Microsoft Flight Simulator and it will support 3 videos and I want to have all 3 running to get the most from the application. I want to be sure that it isn't either/or on the HDMI and Mini-Display Port, but that I can use both/and. Thanks in advance. Paul

Hi, I am join the Lenovo forums to seek assitance with an issue with my Thinkpad Yoga 14. I recently purchased the notenook from Best Buy and it has been great.  But there's an intermitten issue with the screen going black. My theory was that the ambient light sensor is what tells the laptop it's closed, and it was getting obscured, causing my screen to turn off. This issue occurs when I am using it in tablet mode and during the process of the folding the screen back. The screen is fine in laptop mode, unless I adjust the angle of the screen.  So it seems every time I place my hand on the screen to draw, or fold the hinge, the screen will turn black. I have taken the following steps:-Updated Windows and all my Lenovo Apps.-Changing power options to 'Do Nothing' when lid closes.  Does anyone else have this issue? I am hoping this is not a hardware issue   Thanks everyone.

Just picked up a new Thinkpad Yoga. Definitely thrilled by the specifications, it seems to be the perfect laptop for me combining dedicated graphics, 2 in 1 capability, and most importantly, a wacom pen. However, upon getting it home, I find the pen doesn't work whatsoever. Curious, I went back to Best Buy and tried the pen on the display model. That one doesn't work either.Do these have some sort of widespread issue with the digitizer pens not working? Is there any known fix for this?

I looked around and did not see mention of this particular issue.
 
Not exactly sure what triggered this, but it seems like a Windows update may be the culprit. My laptop keyboard has completely stopped working. The trackpoint and trackpad work fine. External keyboard works fine. I have done the System update numerous times and don't see any outstanding updates at all.
 
Have tried to disable the PS2 keyboard driver. It goes ahead and installs a Microsoft driver (dated some time in 2006) for this. Have the Bios updated to the most recent and then installed HotKey drivers - in fact, every update listed (whether critical, recommended or optional).
 
Is there anything else left for me to try before I try to open up the case? Thanks for anything that has helped anybody else with this issue.

I am running the latest version of all patchs and BIOS available on Lenovo website and that is the problem, since I updated BIOS, the notebook come back from sleep mode.It goes into sleep mode as expected but when I try to brinr it back, red light goes on (as expected) but the screen keeps black.The only exit I found was to push ON botoon and hard restart it.Now why Lenovo delivered a BIOS version with this problem?Will I be obligated to come back to Dell?I have a 20FY0002US running Windows 10 - latest version - once I formated and reinstalled everything last week

I am running the latest drivers from Lenovo's website and I have noticed that after a while (possibly after putting my computer to sleep and waking it up again), the ETD Control Center (which must be running in order to have full touchpad functionality) will constantly use ~30% CPU. This obviously impacts battery life, but it also makes my laptop produce more heat and noise than it would otherwise, while running slower. It is undesirable behavior. I have already tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them, running the older version, or running the newer version. Nothing helps. Whenever this software is running, it does not take long before it is thrashing my CPU. Currently I am running the latest version of the software that is available on Lenovo's website, and I have updated everything possible using Lenovo's update software. I am running windows 10 and have the Elan touchpad drivers installed. [screenshot below]ETD Control Center ~30% Constant CPU use Has anyone else had this problem with the elan touchpad/windows 10 combination? If so, what is the resolution? Thanks for your help!

My Yoga 14 ( Type 20FY) cannot boot anymore.  It was fine in the morning, but refused to boot afternoon after being shipped around on a luggage cart.  Now it only lights up the keyboard after power on, and then does nothing, no Lenovo logo, no beep to signal any error. I had tried the following methods to no avail, draining out onboard battery, pushing the emergency reset hole, disconnecting onboard battery and CMOS battery.  Every time it failed to boot after reconnecting it with AC power.  I also connected it with external monitor over hdmi, but nothing to show up after boot it up. The machine is configured with multi-boot to several Linux flavors and Windows 10, so I am knowledgeable to be quite sure it is not a software problem.  Please help me!

Hello, I am freaking out as I am typing this right now at 2 am as a couple of my key caps in the lower right hand corner just fell off the keyboard for no apparent reason. I tried putting them back on but the clips on the underside of the key caps seem to be broken. Is this covered under warranty? If so, will Lenovo send me a new keyboard or will I have to send the machine in? I really hope that Lenovo can send me one as I really need my machine and I am capable of replacing the keyboard on my own as I have serviced multiple ThinkPads in the past. Thanks in advance! Edit:I should mention that my warranty is good until January 12.

Windows 8.1 Pro x64
Yoga 14 (20FY), two weeks old.

Installed Win 8.1 from bootable USB when I got it. Installed drivers I needed from the Lenovo driver site. There is no sensor driver on their site.

I have tried it only in tent and tablet mode as it?s supposed to. There is no windows rotate lock button there is no windows rotate button.

I have downloaded all the drivers and auto rotate still does not work. I have tried ThinkVantage. I have tried installing the 20DM and 20DN drivers and they also do not work. It requires me to update net framework which I cannot find the download to and I cannot change the net framework version in the registry.

I have tried emailing Lenovo in Australia because the US does not have a support email. It does not seem like they will be of any use since it has been two weeks.

In the device manager, the only devices under sensors is Windows Location Provider. There should be Simple Orientation Manager and HID Sensor Collection but I cannot find the drivers for them anywhere.

Are there any generic drivers I can download?

I picked up a Skylake yoga 14 (model # 20FY0002US) and I'm not getting anything from the DVI or HDMI outputs on a mini-DP to HDMI/DP/DVI adapter. This is the particular adapter I tried:http://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-Thunderbolt-HDMI%C2%AE-Passive-Adapter/dp/B013Z71ZI0/ref=sr_1_9?ie... To be clear, the adapter offers DVI, HDMI, and DP outputs, only one of which works at a time. I'm not trying to plug three monitors into it. However, if I hook up a monitor via either the DVI or the HDMI outputs, the computer freezes for 15-60 seconds and nothing shows up on the external monitor. Drivers are all updated. I've tried the adapter on a Surface Pro 3 and it worked flawlessly. I've also tried it with multiple external monitors, so the problem is definitely with my ThinkPad. I've also tried DP1.1 and DP 1.2 versions of the adapter. Again, nothing out of the DVI or HDMI outputs.  Oddly enough, when I tried a simple mini-DP to VGA adapter, it worked.  What gives? This is a pretty important functionality to be missing...

I've tried two miniDP to DVI cables which neither worked.  I just bought an Apple miniDP to VGA adapter and that doesn't work either.  I've tested the monitors and they are good.  I'm assuming the cables are not the issue since I tried three.  I just read on another post that it is a design limitation that miniDP to HDMI or DVI do not work with this laptop.  I don't understand that.  However, it says that miniDP to VGA should work.  It clearly works for you.  Did you do anything other than plug the adapter in?

Was prompted to update the bios.  During restart the system never rebooted.  It's now in a state where no screen or sound comes.  Just a flash of the keyboard backlight, red i light, and green fn light.  Any suggestion how to bring it back to life?

I just did a clean install of Windows 10 on my Thinkpad Yoga 14. I've attempted to install all of the drivers that I could. The only thing missing for the laptop is that I cannot get it to auto-rotate when in tablet mode. The auto-rotate setting is missing from the action center and going into display settings doesn't have any option to allow auto-rotation. I've also tried enabling the Sensor, the Sensor Monitoring service and the Sensor Data Service with no luck. What are the requirements to get this working? Thanks!

The screen of my Yoga 14 ThinkPad Type 20FY touchscreen has cracked. I have a few questions on how to replace the screen.

1. Can I replace the touchscreen with a non-touch screen? It looks like touchscreens are delicate and expensive. I didn't want a touchscreen but Best Buy did not have that in their store. 
2. What is the part number for the screen? I need it to purchase online. Online forums suggest opening the screen to see the part number. Is there a way to see part number using model, and machine type (posted above)? I need part number of non-touch screen, if that will work with the laptop. 
3. What is the cheapest and reliable place to buy a replacement screen? I plan to replace it myself.

I have a Yoga 14 (Type 20FY) running Windows 10 64-bit, and my screen works fine in notebook, stand, and tent mode, but turns off the second I rotate it past tent mode and into tablet mode. I heard this may be related to a (relatively) recent Windows 10 update, but I honestly don't know. My computer is out of warranty and I have no income at the time, so I'd love to be able to fix this without taking it to a professional.

While I like most things about my Yoga 14 notebook, it has this annoying habit of going to sleep about 1 minute, even when it's plugged into a OneLink+ docking station.   I have the OS updated to the latest Windows 10 Creator's Edition and all device drivers up-to-date.   It's done this since I bought the machine earlier this year and I haven't been able to figure-out how to get it to honor the sleep settings in Windows.   Is there a BIOS setting or something that is forcing it to go to sleep after 1 minute?

Hi everyone, this is my first post and I'm desperate, here. I think I'm infected with Malware and I can't find it or get it out! I have screen shotes of the two "ads" that are showing up, if someone wants to see them. Clearly they are designed to get you to try and click on them. They are both showing up all across the web when I visit other pages, too.

None of these are picking up anything.

I've done a system restore to the earliest point I could, and that didn't remove it.

I have a couple of programs that I tried to uninstall, but are still showing up in my programs too. I suspect they are malicious. I think I got them when I was streaming videos from a site I thought was safe.

Also, when I log in through my son's desktop and use either Firefox or IE, they don't show up. When I log in through my desktop and use IE they don't show up, but when I use Firefox, they do. I also created another user desktop and they tried through there and they don't show up on that new desktop, either.
 
I have also noticed that there are two files showing up on C: that seem strange.
 
Computer>OS (C:)>Program Files -- (which I've always noticed) and
Computer>OS (C:)>Program Files (x86) -- (which struck me as odd)

hiya all im new to this forum and i need a little help about 3 months ago i built my own pc and the spec is

64 bit
windows 7 serivce pack 1

copying over files is slow and i thought with it having 8gb ram would help it run smooth but dosent also struggles to play games ect:ts2014 and ship simulator both of the settings for the game is at its minimum and still struggles any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance

Hi,

I am having severe performance issues on a Vista SP2 machine, whereby it can take several minutes to start Internet Explorer and then 5 - 10 minutes to load a web page and sometime the page does not even load.

I have run a Virus Scan from McAfee Internet Security and a Malwarebytes Scan, both come up clean. Running the task manager both CPU and memory usage are relatively flat.

I have attached some basic info about the computer / OS. I am not sure what other info to include or where to start looking for the root cause of the issue and am happy to provide additional info if requested.

Run chkdsk, on the hard drive.
Open a command prompt, with elevated privileges, then type chkdsk /r

To get to the command prompt, go to Start > Search > type cmd.exe then right click on the cmd.exe, then choose "Run as Administrator" in the command prompt, type chkdsk /r

let it run, going to take some time to complete, then restart the computer.

If no improvement, go here: SeaTools for DOS | Seagate burn seatools to a CD, boot from the CD run the short, and long tests, look for errors.

If all checks out good, next will be to check your RAM, go here Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool and get the .iso file, you will need to use a image burning software like The Official ImgBurn Website or some other image burning software.

You will want to test each stick of RAM individualy, if any errors are found you will need to replace the RAM.

My computer reacts slowly.When I click shut down it shows a windows what do you want the computer to do after 5 minutes. When I start the computer it takes about 20 minutes before any program works. When I click on my computer it again takes 5 minutes or more to load. Also when I try to go to a disk drive using start-my computer- files i want to go the whole computer freezes, and response again after few minutes. I want to know why is it happening? Thanks
