Preferred Solution: sfcfix repair, need cat and mum files

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Ran SFCFix.exe the corrupted files; need help with manul fixes

Hey all,

I really need the help, here. Please take a look at what I've posted. I ran a few programs from some other guides and cleaned up registry with CCleaner. Right now comctl32.dll is missing. I found a site to download that file and replace it-my windows will not give me permission. I free up permissions-it claims that file is being used elsewhere, but I can't find the source. A lot of my programs won't respond because this important set of files isn't available and I can't find clearer explanations, or those that seemed relevant were also given as computer-specific examples and wouldn't apply to me. Please, please, take a look here or tell me what else you need so I can get my machine running again. Thank you.

Recently my laptop developed a problem wherein in would not shut down properly. It logged out of Windows with no trouble, but froze on the System Shutting Down screen, and I had to power it off with the power button. I tried this a couple of times to make sure that it wasn't a fluke. It was not. I took it to a repair shop and learned that the hard drive was failing.

I replaced the hard drive myself, by far the techie-est thing I've ever done, just so you know my level of ability (some, but not a lot). I have an external NAS and was able to successfully perform a full system restore. My system is back up and running, and everything seems to be working well, but the machine still cannot power off properly. It's still freezing up on the System Shutting Down screen.

I found SevenForums through a Google search, and followed the suggestions I found for my problem. I ran SCANNOW several times (5), and problem files remained. I went into safe mode and ran SCANNOW there. When I clicked on Shut Down from safe mode, the system was able to power itself correctly (yea!), but it still will not do so not in safe mode.

I've reached the point where I could really use some help. I've created sfcdetails.txt from the CBS log and attached it to this message. There are 2 iterations of SCANNOW represented in this file. The section of the log with a date of 9/17 is from the last run in regular mode yesterday, and the section dated 9/18 is the run in safe mode this morning.

Hi,

I have a problem with my HP Pavilion MS228UK. When I power it on, it runs Startup Repair and then gives me the mesage 'Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically'. In the details all the tests were completed successfully with error codes '0x0' except the last one which gave 'error code 0x490' with the message 'No OS files found on disc'. I ran the memory diagnostic tool which found no faults. I have tried to boot system recovery using F11 but that is not working either.

All help appreciated
Thanks

Does the BIOS detect the hard drive? Is there a hard drive diagnostic that can be run (there usually is when a memory diagnostic is also included)?

hello I have run a sfc scan and it showed I had corrupted files upon research I cam accross the sfcfix.exe which had also failed. Please help if you can Thanks

A:corrupted SFC scan and failed sfcfix.exe

Hello Macari and welcome to Seven Forums.

It's been reported that several Windows Updates starting in May 2015 have caused people to experience corrupted system files after running sfc /scannow.

I'd try uninstalling all updates from May and June. Then try running the sfc again. If it works (no integrity violations found) then you'll know one or more of the Updates was responsible for the corrupted files. You could try reinstalling just a few at a time and run sfc after each group. If sfc runs successfully install the next group. If the sfc shows corrupted system files after running the scan you'll know which Update(s) were at fault. Uninstall those few updates, and install just one at a time. Run the sfc after each install until you know for sure which Update(s) is causing the issue.

Hello,

I have some issues with my Windows 10 Pro OS. So far, there are few problems I am facing and they are as follows: (For now)
1: When I put my PC into sleep mode/hibernation, every time, the PC auto wakes up at 2:00 am and at 1:00 pm (UK time)
1.1: This is another issue with putting PC in sleep mode/hibernation. whenever I put PC into sleep mode and then I try to login back it works good but after every 4 consecutive sleep modes/hibernations and sometimes only with one sleep mode/hibernation, the PC won't show up the login screen. The monitor screens just goes black and moving keyboard/mouse or doing anything won't help and I am forced to press the restart button or must completely shutdown and boot again in order to be able to use the PC again.

So in summary, the PC is limited only to sometimes 1 time and most of the times 4 consecutive times sleep modes/hibernations and must be restarted or shutdown.
2: Recently I tried to run SFC /Scannow but the scan stops at 62% and gives the following error message:

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 62% complete.
Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

I also ran SFCFix and attached both SFC and SFCFix Logs.
3: Since Windows 10 Anniversary Update, I tried many times to update my Windows via ISO (download the correct ISO) about a month ago, I wasn't been able to update the Windows.
The update runs fine up un... Read more

I've found that the sfc scannow won't complete; it stops around 41%. I have rebooted in safe mode and attempted the same with exact same result at 41 percent. I found a similar member with this same issue, and it was recommended that they download and run SFCFix. I have done that, and I received the following:

Error: 87
An error occurred while processing the command. Ensure that the command-line arguments are valid. For more information, review the log file.

Below first is my system info, and below that is the dism.log. I'd appreciate any assistance with this matter because I use this computer for graduate school, and I don't have the ability to use the windows start button. Typically, I wouldn't have updated my Windows 7 to 10, but I was happy to see the return of the start button; however, I'm seriously regretting my decision. I installed some updated drivers from the Dell website & all seemed to be OK. Decided to run SFC & it said there were problems it could not repair. I have attached the CBS.log file.

Thanks for your help.

A:SFC cannot repair files

Try running these commands from a Elevated Command Prompt:

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

SFC /scannow

Or put them in a batch (.bat) file then run the batch file. It will then execute the commands sequentially without your interaction.

If you call the batch file DISMandSFC.bat and you run it like this:

DISMandSFC.bat 2>&1 > DISMandSFC.log

You won't see anything until the commands finish, which could be an hour or more, but all the output you would normally see will be placed in DISMandSFC.log.

The 2>&1 redirects standard error and standard output together into DISMandSFC.log.

Hi folks,

Does anybody know of any free utilities that will enable me to repair my ZIP files if they are corrupted?

Thanks,

Peaker

A:Repair Zip files help

You can try this: http://www.diskinternals.com/zip-repair/ but a Google search reveals tons of hits for utilities claiming then can do it.

But the best course of action is to get or make a new ZIP file of whatever this happens to be if possible as that'll ensure all the files/data is there and not missing information.

Hello,

I've been unable to access my custom build computer since around 5:00 yesterday. I chose to restart my computer at around that time just because it was slowing up a little and I usually do that to help, I had not installed any updates or new programs since 2 days ago when there had been a few windows updates.

Upon returning to my computer I noticed that it had been unable to startup and had gone straight into system repair with it being 'unable to repair this computer automatically.' I rebooted several times and noticed that it was not a visible BSOD but as soon as the 'starting windows' icon began to appear it went straight into startup repair. I tried to boot into safe mode, tried to load previous good configuration and all of the other advanced recovery options (including system restore/image and many command prompts).

This is what it shows after being unable to repair automatically:

Problem signature name:Startup repair offline
Problem signature 1: 6.1.7600.16385

Problem signature 5: Autofailover
Problem signature 6: 11
Problem signature 7: Corrupt file

This diagnostic occurs every single time I run the startup repair. Also, command prompts I have tried using the WindowsRE command prompt and the one found on the 'repair your PC' option on the windows 7 installation disk are:

hi, i left my computer on while at work only to come back to seeing that win 8 pro had had to stop (it was on screen telling me this and that i needed to restart - a nice bsod perhaps?). i restarted and it seemed to take forever to load up with loooonnnggg breaks in between screens changing and not showing my dekstop shortcuts.

i ended up loading up my win 8 install disc and going to a command prompt to run chkdsk /b /r. this came up with lots of sectors where chkdsk needed to replace bad sectors or something (where it utilises spare sectors instead - familiar with this?). so i let it finish but at the end it said it couldn't save the log file (piece of crap!) and i lost the visible report on screen so i have no way of knowing what files were affected by these errors!!!!

i've done an sfc and it checked out fine (apparently). altho i don't know if windows is clever enough to know that files may be damaged or if it only checks that they are present? - the latter not being very helpful.

so at the moment i am verifying individual steam games ( quite a few are reporting dodgy files and then redownloading them). is there a way to batch verify all games? (it would make sense for steam to implement!)

i have quite a few games that aren't steam activated so that makes it very hard to verify the files.

i have got another HD to use as a backup with a system image but i've done quite a bit of moving around since the backup. also windows decided to backup on schedule and i stopped it ... Read more

Hello,

I have winxp on a 80gig hd which is missing the ntldr file.

I used the 6-floppy disk Microsoft Home Edition WinXP Boot Disks mentioned on bootdisk.com to get to the recovery console.

Once there i tried to copy ntldr and ntdetect.com from a floppy to my c:\ drive only to get this message: "en error occured during directory enumeration".

I tried to create a directory to copy the two files into (mkdir c:\i386) and recieved a message stating that my mbr was corrupted.

Using two files from the 6-disk boot, fixboot and fixmbr, i tried to fix the mbr only to have kept the same problem... neither worked at all.

Is there a way to fix a corrupted mbr and keep important files that were on the harddrive from being erased?

I am hoping for a repair of xp not a clean install. Files on the computer belonged to my father and are not replacable at all, no other copies made... i was unaware of the fact that he had not made backup copies. That lesson is a hard one this time.

A:How to repair system files

Hi nurapn, you can use the System File Checker to repair system files....you will need an XP SP2 disc to do it though.

- Click Start -> Run -> type:
sfc /scannow
- Click OK
- Insert disc when prompted.

You also have the option to perform a repair installation..you can find instructions for that here:
http://www.windowsreinstall.com/winx...exfullpage.htm

However, both options can have slight drawbacks as you will need to reapply system updates and drivers etc. What makes you think the files have changed..are you getting any specific errors?

If all is running well since cleaning the spyware, then there should be no need to 'repair'.

I've been trying to fix this issue for 2 days now! I am doing this because I am having issues with my USB ports and I thought SFC would be a good place to start.

I have been here:
http://www.sevenforums.com/performance-maintenance/300474-how-do-you-fix-corrupted-files-found-sfc-scannow.htm ....but OP and main helper dropped out/no solution

I have done this:

1) Ran extensive AV scans (avast and MbamPro) and NO virus's found.

2) Deleted these from windows update:
KB2670838
KB2840149
KB2862330
KB3033929
KB2990214
*note: I realize there are quite a few other "bad" updates but, of all those.... above are the only ones I had on my 'puter.

3) Ran Chkdsk. (log is included below) I Can't remember all the other things I've tried/did...(I'll probably remember as we go along)

Vitals are as follows:
Win7 home premium sp1
MSI laptop A6200 (Intel core i3 380M)

BTW....I have repaired so many issues with Win7 with the help of this forum's posts....so THANX in advance...me luv you very much !!!!!!!

Here are my log files that may be needed:

When you go into Windows updates and select Windows Update then select Installed updates (lower left) you should see a full list of updates. Selecting the offending update if that's the problem is difficult.

I am running Windows 8.1, I tried booting from my Windows 8 Pro DVD but whenever I tried to run "sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=d:\windows" I would get an error: Windows Resource Protection could not start the Repair service". Any idea how I can fix this without doing a clean install or refresh?

I installed Windows 10 today and after setting up everything, tweaking etc. I decided to re-overclock my GPU except I forgot what I used to have my core clock at so I accidentally pushed it a bit further than it could handle. Needless to say it crashed during a game, just froze basically and I had to press the reboot button. Since I'm a bit paranoid I decided to run sfc /scannow just to check on things and this came u:
