Lenovo G780 not working after BIOS update

Q: Lenovo G780 not working after BIOS update

First of all I want to say that I am extremely disappointed with the experience I had with my Lenovo. After I bought it I found out that Lenovo, for some reason, disabled the Turbo Boost option of the CPU. I tried to fix it by entering the BIOS but the options there were limited, so I decided to update the BIOS. I downloaded the BIOS update for 64-bit windows(i am running windows 8 which is compatible with the said update utillity). I ran the .exe and followed all the instructions (did not shut-down restart or anything my computer). After installing it automatically restarted and a Lenovo logo prompted on the screen followed by ">>Start PXE over IPv6, Press [ESC] to EXIT..." after that "EFI Network 0 for IPv6(numbers and letters) boot failed". Then ">>Start PXE over IPv4" which failed and a blue box poped saying "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed. Insert Recovery Media and Hit any ket then select boot manager to choose a new boot device or to boot recovery media". Pressed ok and got me to Boot Manager screen. Boot option Menu had only EFI Network 0 for IPv6 and EFI Network 0 for IPv4". What should I do?Note that I tried to start up both with and without the ethernet cable in.

Preferred Solution: Lenovo G780 not working after BIOS update

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

HiAfter unsuccessful BIOS update I made a brick from my G780. Maybe notfully. SYmptoms are below. When I pressing power ON button I hear a fan, HDD and DVD and led frompower, battery lights on, and led from hdd blinks one time. After thatnumlock's led is on. On screen I see nothing. It is just black. Even indark room when I'm flashing directly on it still see nothing. In thisstate Laptop react for pressing capslock or numlock buttons andchanging their state ON/OFF. I tried to do emergency BIOS flashing by unplugging AC, holding Fn-Band then power button. FAN is spinning on highest speed, pendrive thatI used blinks one time and after about 10 seconds starting flashingwith led for 20 or more seconds. I seems like reading bios QIWG5.binfile, but after those 20 seconds nothing happens. I read that G780should make one short beep, and after a while should start beeping ininterval several times. Instead of this is only silence and after a fewminutes shutting down without success. Symptoms are still like insecond paragraph. I tried every USB port, with or without battery, original BIOS that wasbefore update, this new bios. Pendrive is formatted in FAT16.Any suggestions about what else can I do?Best regards, Peter*sorry for my English I didn't use it since school)

Anyone help me out before I chuck this off a wall!? I have a Lenovo G780 laptop... it is not powering on at all. After reading a few posts I've taken out the battery and removed the power cord and then held the power button for 30 secs, 10 secs etc and now put the battery and power cord back in and the battery light at the front will turn on to say it is charging, when I hit the power button the power button lights up and the front power light turns on also, after 3 seconds approx the lights turn back off.  Nothing appears on the screen, no fans. no noises that I can hear? What the heck has happened everything has been fine? I purchased the laptop December 2012 and for the last year no problems at all apart from maybe some little problems regarding Lenovo Solution Centre where it tried to update something and I had to roll it back. My warranty ran out on the 21st December 2013!!!!!!!How to proceed?

My Laptop's fan has been making a lot of noise the last few days, i already checked a lot of forum's, so i've already checked the easier solutions. I have removed the dust from my fan (there was almost no dust!) I checked my laptops CPU usage, it was at about 3%, so it's not because the CPU is overheated. It just starts making a lot of noise for no apparant reason i think. What can i do? should i just install a new fan? according to me, my fan is in good condition, as far as i can tell. The only reason that my laptop is getting hot is because of the fan turning all the time.  My computer doesn't detect any problems. But the noise is really irritating.  Thanks for support.

A:Lenovo G780 Fan noise

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of the noise problem.  Is the fan making a grinding or chatter sound?   If so, that would be a indication that the bearings in the fan are failing.  If the noise is nothing more than rushing air, that maybe caused by the fan ramping up to full speed to cool the laptop down.  Previously the laptop may have not gotten that hot so the rush of air was less noticeable.

As for temperature, I would recommend you download and use a free utility called HWMonitor.  It will report the internal temperatures of the laptop and give a better indication if it is over heating.  If it is over heating, the solution maybe a quick fix by re-applying the thermal paste on the heat sink.  Here is a link to that utility.  It comes in two versions. First, a portable one that can run from a flash drive of folder on your laptop.  The second version installs on the hard drive.

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Your model's Hardware Maintenance Manual will explain how to disassemble the laptop for fan replacement or thermal paste application.  Here is a link to the manual.....

Hello, I have had my Lenovo G780 since 2013 it still runs like new. I have to replace the keyboard since I spilled some water on it. I figured I mighty as well upgrade teh RAM as well. It came with 6GB or RAM and from what I have read it only upgrades to 8GB. I don't want to buy something not compatable. Am I buying 1 stick of 8GB OR 2 4GB sticks? What kind do I need to buy and what brand? Lenovo G780  20138. INTEL i7 nvidia 635 m.   Also, I have always wanted to replace the wifi card. It came with an awful broadcom and never worked very well. Did lenovo ever offer a solution. Years ago I bought a replacement but the white list prevented it from working.

Hello. I am currently using a Lenovo G780 laptop, which I use mostly for gaming, and it handles it pretty well, but overheats quite a lot too. I have speedfan, and I was wondering how to access the fans? In the speedfan menu it shows nothing for the fans. I overheat a lot and it causes lag spikes.

A:Lenovo G780 Fan Control

Hi Raiden60,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with overheats while playing games in your Lenovo G780 laptop.

Please check for the fan setting in BIOS and set the fan speed under the option ?Smart fan control?. Also in the latest motherboard the fan control system is inbuilt and can adjust to the fan speed and can function accordingly.

Try to update the BIOS to the latest version and check for the issue.

Click here for the BIOS for windows 8.

If still the issue persists then there might be issue with the fan which might be replaced. Please visit the nearest service center for further details.

Click here to open a link where you can select the country and get the exact contact support number. I?m sure
they will be a great help.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

If Lenovo tech support didn't suggest returning the laptop, I would venture to guess there are no hardware issues. If that is the case, I would wait for the disk from Lenovo and call them for support after receiving the disk and before doing the new installation of the OS.

Hello everybody, Since my Lenovo G780 (modelnr. 2182) crashed and I had to do a reinstall, it doesn't function properly anymore. My networkadapters don't seem to pick up any wireless network at all. Now I ordered a recovery disk package to completely set it back to factory settings. Here come's the problem: I have been sent G480/G580METAL recovery disks instead. I have no reason to believe these are the right disks, for as it nowhere reads on them that they are also applicable for G780. Is anybody familiar with this problem, or knows whether these disks are in fact the right system recovery disks for me? I hope to hear from you soon. Regards, NickMcWay

Hello Nick, In which way your system crashed? Was it something hardware or software related? Did you install proper drivers for your wireless device? If Lenovo sent you the specific disks then it should work on your machine.

I have searched all related topics and none help me with this specific problem. I purchased a Lenovo g780 three days ago and already have noticed a horribly annoying problem. I had not been aware of a feature called PalmCheck until I tried playing PC games (I use Skyrim, Assassin's Creed etc...) and PalmCheck makes them unplayable. As far as I can tell, this is literally the only model that does not offer the feature under mouse settings to disable PalmCheck. I do not want to completely disable my touch pad, I simply want PalmCheck off. Is there a way to manually do this or an older driver that I can install to have the ability to disable this?

Whenever I bootup with both enabled, the laptop will hang. I had to boot up in Safe Mode, disable the Intel HD 4000 graphic driver and reboot - it will start up normally BUT the HDMI will not work when I plug in a HDMI cable into the socket. My TV will display "no signal".But when I enable the Intel HD 4000 driver and reboot the laptop, the laptop will start, then screen blank, my TV will show a blank screen with the 1600x900 resolution setting but remained blank, and laptop will freeze. Help! This is driving me insane! Note: this is a freshly formatted unit.

Hello everyone! I ama new user and i am coming up with this post as I couldn`t find any kind of solution for my problem.Recently I decided to do a reinstallation of my operating system, which also previously was Windows 7 Ultimate (x64). The installation went as usual, and after finishing it I went on to install all the latest drivers from the Lenovo site, for my product. When getting close to installing almost all the drivers i`ve needed, i stumbled upon a new version of the BIOS amnd the drivers and sfotware recommended for my laptop, by the producer. So i proceeded to install the upgrade, restarted the computer when it prompted me to do so, but after the so-called restart the laptop did not boot up as usual. At first it was telling me to not do anything as the BIOS is being flashed and then it was telling me something about some sort of image processing, things that i did not understand at the time (i have never encountered anything like that). After that my screen turned black. I have not done anything for a few couple of minutes as i thought it was supposed to be like that, but then i just force shut it down and unplugged the AC adapter. When trying to boot it all up again, the only thing i got was a black screen and nothing else. After doing a little bit of research it appears that, somehowm i`ve managed to corrupt the bios on my laptop or something, and nothing else would work at this point. I tried to remove the BIOS battery and the ram and then put them all back, trye... Read more

I?m currently updating the BIOS of some Lenovo ThinkCentre M83 PCs and I came across a problem. The Flash UEFI BIOS update (provide by Lenovo) worked almost perfectly on the first PCs, despite it didn?t automatically open the console and started the flashing process.Anyways I did go on with my work. Almost all other PCs had the problem that when the second phase (yellow font)/ afudos.exe imagefb.rom /defans /capsule /b /n /r /sp started the afuwin.exe stopped working (it crashed). It seemed like the Update wouldn?t get done this way so I decided to try it with the USB Flash method, also provided by Lenovo, but it also didn?t work. Hi. I have a Lenovo B50-30 mode 80ES. It was set to require a password on startup starting with a capital "A". While experiencing charging problems, amongst other things, I updated the BIOS to 9CCN35WW, downloaded from the Lenovo support site. Since updating, the laptop no longer asks for a password on startup (No big deal, I applied a windows password), however, when pressing F2 to access the BIOS (which I need to do, the F keys are the wrong way round), it asks for a password, When pressing to strike a capital A, the laptop beeps and doesnt enter it. It wont accept capital letters anymore, therefore it wont accept the pre BIOS update password. I have referred the laptop to Lenovo service, including returning the laptop, and they have been nothing short of useless. They said they couldnt repair it under warranty because of "Marks, cracks, inappropriate treatment" and it would cost 255 for a replacement system board. I really couldnt see why I should pay for an issue created by their support system, so I asked them to return it unrepaired. Upon arrival, the laptop was immaculate, so I dont know what damage they were referring to. Is it possible to downgrade the BIOS to a pre update revision, to change the password and then reset it to one the new BIOS approves of? Thankyou in advance.

A few days ago I had some problems with my HDD so I brought a new one.  To install Windows in the new drive I plugged in the DVD drive that Lenovo ships with the laptop and tried to boot from it. That failed and BIOS got like "programmed" or stuck with configurations that doesn't let it recognise any boot media no matter if it is a USB stick or HDD, no matter if I try to change the configuration of the BIOS it would always get back to the initial state of not being able to boot I even tried to reset it by unplugging its battery and the laptop battery but the only thing that happens is system time starting from 0 while any other configuration stays the same.  I thought this could be fixed using crisis recovery mode, but the laptop doesn't recognise the BIOS loaded on the USB and never make any sort of beep or alert noises, the screen doesn't show anything either and fans just get to 100% I really need help to solve this problem, it's like the BIOS got stuck in the last configurations before plugging the DVD drive in. (The Boot menu still showing that there's a USB booteable device even when it is not plugged in).

Hello, my Lenovo laptop running on Windows 8.1 has been stuck on "Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete." I've never had any problems with it in the 3 years of using it. I turned it off normally, then in the morning it was started up, went normally through the password part, then it was supposedly loading too long, so my mom shut it down and restarted it and then the program asked to do a system restore to a previous point in time and now it has been stuck on "Repairing disk errors.." for over 16 hours now. There is only the power light on and the fan is working, as well as the keyboard, but the screen only shows the Lenovo logo and the "Repairing disk errors." text. Should I wait and leave it alone, or what should I do? Can I turn it off or will I damage it?

I recently bought a new Lenovo G780, as my old HP laptop failed on me. However, the harddrive from my HP was fine, so when I got the new computer I decided to just take the harddrive out of my HP and put it into my new Lenovo. I've got the drivers for everything else to work, except my wireless network adapter refuses to install drivers from any source I can find. The adapter is an Atheros AR9285. I've tried lenovo's online drivers, and have even bought Driver Manager and asked the support staff to find drivers that work for me. They said they found one that worked, but I tried installing it and it said that "This computer is not manufactured by Quanta Computers" and then didn't install it. I have them working on that right now. But seriously, if they don't find a solution, what could the problem be? And how do I get my network adapter working again?

Here is some additional important information:
-The harddrive they gave me came with windows 7 x64 home edition. I am using windows 7 x64 professional.
-The wireless network adapter works if I use the harddrive the computer came with
-I am a chemical engineering college student who needs internet to do his assignments, and this little netgear usb adapter my friend lent me isn't cutting it

A:Lenovo G780 replaced harddrive, network adapter drivers fail

Hello and welcome nitro Mate one thing I didn't see you mention is the Device Manager in Control Panel have you tried that yet? CP > Device manager > open it up like in pic right click the adaptor > it will ask you to look for updates - it may come back as the correct one or not. See pic first.

If not have a look at this thread Best Atheros AR 9285 Driver? - Tech Support Forum there maybe something in there.

I've been getting the "Thread Stuck in Driver" BSOD when playing games for several months now and have just been trying to ignore it. However, it's gotten too bad to be ignored any longer. I've been trying to download a BIOS update (as another thread on this topic suggested) but the System Update program refuses to download the BIOS update it says I need every single time. I can provide more info on my system if necessary.  Thanks for the help.

As you can see there are multiple problems that have come up in this notebook. I recently reinstalled windows 10 to solve some other problems. The installation went perfect and afterward everything seemed to work fine. When my wife turned it on the blue BIOS screen came on (as it did before the installation) and I was unable to use the touchpad, mouse or arrow keys to move the selection. I rebooted and it started up fine only the keyboard did not work. I had to use the onscreen keyboard to log in. Once inside, sometimes the keyboard works and sometimes it doesn't. I've tried using the f6 to toggle the touchpad on but it didn't work. The keyboard is touch and go and now the blue screen BIOS sometimes comes up when the computer is started. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've searched for solutions and haven't been able to find anything that works to solve these problems. I've uninstalled the drivers and rebooted for a fresh re-install of the drivers but that only temporarily fixes the problem. Thank you.

I was forced into a system update on Friday.   After 30+ hours it was still hung at 82% complete. I killed the update and re-booted which restored the previous OS.   I tried the update again today and it has been running 6 hours the last 5 or so stuck at 82% complete. Any help appreciated. Thanks

I have a laptop G780 with intel i7 CPU, and 8 G RAM, and it is working very slowly. When I bought it, it was with another version of windows, and now I have windows 10.I need to reset to factory setting, and reinstall windows. I wanted first to update the security copy of OneKey, but I get a message that it would need 573 GB, and there is no enought place, while the original settings made the partition to 25 GB, and I can't change the destination where is should be inside the computer. So my questions are:1- How to update this security copy?2- If I couldn't do that, the last one was in april 2014, when I bought the computer, would that re-install the old version of windows?Best regards,

A:G780 - Windows 8.1 update - Can't Start Dolby Aud...

hi Sperl19,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Your Dolby may not be synced with the Audio driver after the update,
Since Audio driver may had been updated by the 8.1 but not the Dolby app.

Here's what to do:

Open Device Manager
Uninstall the Audio Device Under Audio inputs and outputs
Then proceed to Control Panel / Programs / Uninstall a Program
                     Uninstall all Dolby Related programs
                             Restart if Prompted
Now install this software driver
 Conexant Audio Driver

Now open Drive C: on the upper right hand side of the screen you will find a Search pane
Type in "aa" and hit search
You should find 1 of the result as dolby or if not post a screen shot of the results here

If ever you found it install that and it should bring your dolby back

Hope this helps
Cheers!

bought this recently, and must say that i am pretty pissed. i did installation of windows 7 on it and it worked fine for some 10 days till it got BSOD cause of bad system info and couldnt even load into windows. only solution was to reinstall. i did fresh install and i got BSOD with fresh install after only few days. checked internet for solution and saw that you could select windows 7 os in bios for optimized settings that should prevent BSOD. but no option for windows 7 in bios. only for win 8 and other OS. i thought ok, i will just download latest bios and flash it. but what happened when i downloaded bios (a2cn38ww) from support page?i got this message "your machine does not match with this bios". so does anyone know where i can actually  download correct bios, or how to contact lenovo support so they can tell me where to download bios?
