Customised alert sound for critical battery will not stop

Q: Customised alert sound for critical battery will not stop

I have set a customised alert sound for my Windows 8 laptop's Critical Battery alert but when I plug the charger in the sound keeps going.

Is there a way I can have the sound play until the charger is plugged in and for it to then stop?

Preferred Solution: Customised alert sound for critical battery will not stop

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Since this is a customized alert, whoever designed the alert may be able to change something.

my Yoga notebook failed to start due to a critical low battery, assuming the battery was dead. Ordered a new battery and installed it, worked fine, however it showed up as plugged in, not charging. Ran the energy management and it showed the battery level in whcih was level, status of battery was showing good. i have done pretrty much everything possible, mains off, unplugged battery, held power button 30 sec, played with power options, etc. The only thing i cannot do is update the bios as it needs the battery and now its dead flat and wont boot up unless a disconnect the battery. From exhausting every options available i am starting to think its the chaging circuit on the board that is faulty and noting to do with the battery. The notebook is almost 3 years old and worked like a rock until now. Has anybody else experianced this issue, any feedback will be appreciated.

Was the replacement battery a Lenovo-authorized replacement part? If not, that could be your issue.

My system is Win XP Pro SP3.

When I boot my PC, I'm hearing a "critical stop" sound, which is heard after "winlogon" sound and prior to showing my desktop.

[ I think that it is some program failed to load or similar. No error mesages. ]

How I can find what program makes it ?

Thank you.

Hello
As the title says. when starting my xp home pc before it shows the desktop i am getting the windows critical stop sound but no error message to say what the problem is. The pc boots up normally but it is annoying. I have switched off all the startup programs, checked event viewer with no joy. I seem to have narrowed it down to the task scheduler service as when i disable it there is no critical stop sound, but there are no tasks scheduled in the scheduler program.

Any suggestions
Thanks

Hello,

Have had this happening for a while.... thought it's time to figure it out. Always, when shutting down the machine or logging out of Windows, I hear the critical stop sound just before the exit Windows sound. This sound does not correspond with anything in the Event Viewer or Scheduled Tasks...that I can see. Although this has been occurring for a while, I do know that this issue did not always occur on this computer. Of course, all AV/AS scans are clean. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

ps- Just an FYI.... I did find a new sch. task that I am guessing came along with IE8. It is some sort of feed updater.

A couple times this week, I've heard the "critical stop" sound when shutting down XP. It shuts down fine and starts again fine the next day. All apps work fine, except sometimes IE7 is slow in closing which is unusual. Why am I hearing the sound?

Hi Guys,

Perhaps someone out there has an idea of how I can find out what is the source of this odd critical stop sound I am hearing on this XP Pro running machine. It usally happens about 20 minutes into running after boot up. No notices are given. I looked in the event viewer but did not see anything. Is there anyplace else I can look to see why the critical stop sound went off?

I have run several suites of anti-malware/viral programs, and the system is coming up clean, did have a run in with Virtumonde recently. Perhaps it has changed a windows basic setting or something. Any ideas kindly appreciated.

Regards,

~Decker

A:Unknown Critical Stop Sound

Are you always using the same apps twenty minutes into the critical stop sound happening? You might try unloading everything at startup and add your apps back one at a time until you get the culprit - tedious, and maybe someone else has a better idea

I am getting a critical sound upon boot whether it is a restart or a cold boot. If I turn off the critical sound in the sound properties, I do not hear the sound upon boot anymore. I have looked in the event log and see no critical errors, but the sound is there still. I have also deselected almost all startup programs, and most services, without success of ridding of that sound. I attached a hijackthis log in this post.

I do not understand why this got moved to malware removal logs. I have ran malwarebytes with no infections found (update defs too of course). Is it because I attached a hijackthis log?

i have critical battery sound set on my laptop to turn on at 10% and then 7% and shut the computer down at 5% if i do not do anything about it. problem is, sometimes i have the volume real low or off and dont hear it. is it possible (in windows, not an external program, although i will look to externals if not) to set the volume at a standard when the critical alarm goes off? in example, my laptop is at volume 2, then it hits critical level of 10% battery left, i want the computer to automatically bump up the volume to 20 or 30 depending on what i choose. kinda nit picky i know, but hell i know it can be done, if not in windows surely someone can recommend a good program. thanks to everyone who takes time to read and reply. -n00b

A:critical battery sound volume level?

You would need a special program just for that function, that whenever it needs to report the battery condition it would also raise the volume level. I've never seen anything like that. Have you tried doing a google search?

So...the beeping started last night after I used a piece of dodgy software--lesson learned. The beeping was happening pretty frequently, and using event viewer and process monitor, I was able to find out what that noise was, but not necessarily exactly what was causing it, since there's no visible error message at all.

Then my mouse stopped working. The trackpad works just fine, but no mouse at all. The mouse is fine and works on the other laptop. I now also have AdChoice ads all over any page in Chrome, despite AdBlock--which is what first tipped me off to something weird, since I never see ads.

I've run all the run of the mill anti-virus and removal tools, SearchScope was found and removed, but probably not entirely. Then I recovered to a backup several days old to no avail--still no mouse, the beeping is still there, and the ads are still there.

Event logs said 7001 and 7036 errors were happening. So a Service Control Manager issue? I have no clue what that is.

Here's the basic system info, all the logs I generated are attached:

Hello,As the title says I have a strange problem ? I get error 0190 (Critical low-battery error) where at the same time my battery is full on my brand new ThinkPad Edge E531. Of course I already searched for threads with similar issue and I found this one: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/X1-0190-critical-low-battery-error-but-battery... . It appears that my case is quite identical with the one of user ?gilsont?. I have noticed that whenever I leave my laptop shut down for a longer period of time with almost full battery, it displays error 0190 on next start up followed by a beep sound and shut down. You may ask ?Why are you asking us? You already have the problem ? the battery?. Well the problem is not that simple. I already returned the laptop (on 3rd day after I got it) to the store where I bought it and respectively they sent it to their tech service. After few days I was informed that they couldn?t find anything wrong with it or its battery. I instructed them how they may reproduce the error but again without any result ? still nothing. Now I am in a bit confusing situation, I can?t prove that there is something faulty with this machine. I am not aware of the circumstances needed to trigger this error. My question is ? could it be a single case, maybe the battery wasn?t fully activated at that time or something like dirt on the battery connector interfered? I really don?t know what to do.Note: I encountered the problem 2 times... Read more

First of all, thankyou in advance to anyone who can help me.This all started about 3 days ago, it must have been after I downloaded a dodgy file.First of all, when opening any folders on my PC, this message would pop up and Internet Explorer would try to load:"[Critical Error]Attention, Some dangerous viruses detected in your system. Microsoft Windows XP files corrupted. This may lead to the destruction of important files in C:\WINDOWS. Download protection software now!Click OK to download the antispyware. (Recommended)"After closing both the error message and Internet Explorer, IE wouldn't load any website up again and would occassionally crash. Also, a blue background with a yellow error box appeared saying that I needed to scan for spyware. Also, I couldn't access my screensaver - but I ran gpedit.msc and changed the settings so the screensaver tab could not be disabled. So, later that day, I went changed some of the Folder Options (the one to show file extensions) and the error message on opening a folder stopped appearing. However, when I restarted my computer, Antivirus XP 2008 loaded saying "1564 virus' had been detected" on my PC. I had to leave my PC as it was for the weekend as I was away but when I got back home this morning, I decided to search for this Antivirus program and read that the problems I had been having were all connected. So does this bios update even apply to my computer? Second Question: The specs says to downlowd the file and follow instructions. However the file just creates a directory and then unzips into it. but does not try to install. Is this right or is it because i have Win 10 pro? As this is for the bios i don't want to try to install without proper instructions which were not suppplied.

Hello everyone,

Recently I have had popups recommending me to download AVSYSTEMCARE in order for my computer to be safe. Now I searched around and noticed that this announcement is a spyware that can be very malicious. I didnt download it, but often my homepage is changed, I have a yellow triangle on the bottom left bar which, if clicked, open more pages about this fake program, and whenever I try to type or work popups about it happen. I would really enjoy help, as I have ran many antispyre and tools, and nothing removed it!

I am getting a critical stop error and memory dump and it is happening randomly.

Today when browsing online...

Yesterday when printing

The computer freezes, makes a whining noise then gives me the blue screen stop error

I have a brand new Gateway 420GR running WindowsXp and the only new hardware I have installed is a HP Officejet 6110xi all in one printer. I checked for new driver but it says it is up to date. Ive intalled some game software for my kids, but have uninstalled them now and still getting error. I keep forgetting to write down the error code so will next time if it helps. The text says something about a driver and new hardware but I cant seem to figure this out.

Norton Virus scan was negative. I am running spywareblaster and Ad-aware SE.

any ideas?

Hi! I am having problems with my emachines laptop. I have been working on MovieMaker for a few hours already and I have accidentally left it running on battery power. It has notified me of "critically low battery power" but by the time I have plugged the charger, the screen has already went blank and it has already hibernated. I tried pushing the power button but the screen won't lit up. The battery indicator LED light was running (and still is).

Normally, when my laptop is in hibernate mode, I would just push the power button. The thing is, I am reluctant to do the 10-second power press because this will shut the whole thing down and doing so will lose all my data as I am running on DeepFreeze.

Do you know any other "buttons to press" or other ways to power it on without having to shut the whole thing down?

Hi again ... I'm getting these critical stop sounds, but I don't get any messages telling me what the problem is. I've done research on the problem, but none have had it where they get an occasional stop error with no message. I go into the admin tools into the event viewer and I see the errors but I don't know what is causing them or how to stop them ... the last error was on 01/14/10 ... "service control manager" ... another error .. same day ... "DCOM" ... and another from the "service control manager" ... looks like the errors are those two ... anyone have any idea what is going on? ... and how to stop these errors?

When my laptops battery reaches critical it will usually hibernate as all of them do. When it's switched back on it'll give you the option to do a system resume. The past 3 times it hasn't though, it has brought up the black screen saying windows didn't shut down properly, and giving me the options to start in safe mode etc.

Any ideas why this happening?

A:Not Shutting Down Properly At Critical Battery

Hello Sonic,

* Windows stores the Hibernation file "Hiberfil.sys" (which stores the hibernate information) in the Windows root drive where you have installed windows.

* Now, do you have enough space in your Windows root drive? In this issue I feel that if there is not enough space in windows drive and hence, windows is unable to store the Hibernate file and hence the issue is caused.

I have a Dell Vostro A860 laptop (1.5 years old) Vista O/S. Two days ago when attempting to boot it up it showed a black screen and it read "Critical low battery, Hit F-1 to continue". Whe I did, it shut down. Upon hitting the pwr button again, nothing would happen. Removing the battery and re-installing then hitting pwr button allows the start up, however 4 seconds into it, it just shuts down. I have tried with the power cord plugged in, unpluged. Will not boot either way.

Here is a strange thing. I bought 2 of these Dells for family gifts at Christmas 2008. Yesturday the other A860 did the same thing. What are the odds of that? The other one I unplugged the power cord to try on the other to ensure it was not a bad charger cord, and if that was the problem. When I pluged back in the battery icon just kept discharging and then shut off. I rebboted and all came back up for a bit then shut down. It now does the 4 second atempt and then shuts down dead.

Further strange, my next door neighbor called and said that they were having a problem with thei laptop, it was, yes you guessed it, showing Critical low battery, Hit F-1 to continue. Could this be a virus? I know we and neighbor a month ago had that AV Security virus, but we both removed using malware removal tools, and the systems have been running fine. Any direction would be appreceated. Local shop said to get new batteries. I hate to spend 80.00 on a bettery to find out it is something else. Plus why would it not... Read more

Okay let's see, I have a Compaq Presario Notebook, 2175US the problem is I need to disable the feature that shuts down the computer when the battery is low. I have gone to compaq tech support and they told me to switch the power scheme to always on but that's not helping. I used to be able to do it but now I dont know why after the last time I quick restored it, now it wont help.

I tried turning the alarms off, I tried putting the alarms on and put NONE under the "When Alarm goes off take this action: "

I dont know what else to do, I'm trying to do this because I think my battery has memory again. I used to use the battery in 0% for about a half an hour or something, I want to do the total drain of the battery again because again its lasting about 15 minutes and after I did it the last time it lasted about 2 hours.

If you need any more details contact me

Thanks everyone

A:Disable Critical Battery ShutDown

I think technically laptop batteries aren't supposed to get memory, but I've always been a bit fuzzy on any rechargables other than NiCads and I know a fair amount about them from my days driving RC Cars.
What you could do if you don't get an answer on how to do it from within Windows is: remove the battery find out its voltage and go to a local shop and get at or a little higher voltage light bulb and wire the battery to that light bulb, it will fully discharge the battery in a safe manner that way.

Hi all,

In XP, we had the option of executing a script when the computer switched from AC to battery power, and also when the battery reached a critical level. This was extremely useful because I had a special script run to send an email that the power had gone out and then hibernate the computer when it reached a critical level.

In the Windows 7 power options screens, I see no such options. Were they removed? If so, wtf?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

is it possible to turn off the notification that pops up when battery level is critical (~7%) ?. "Change advanced power settings" only lets me disable the notification for low battery (~10%).
The reason is that I got the program Battery Bar installed and let rather Battery Bar handle the battery notifications.

Does anyone know a way to do it? (Registry)

How to get lower?

A:How to change critical battery level to 1%

/offtopicFrankly I also have it set to 1% on my old netbook. Don't really see the point to setting the critical alarm to 5% which means almost 15 minutes of computer use.
However I do set the low battery alarm to around 7%.

/ontopic
Managed to bring it to 1%. I ejected the battery and then set it to 1% and after wards inserted the battery.

Hi. I've had to give up using my Yoga 910 due to constant blue screen with a Critical Process Died error. I have spent countless hours trying to resolve it but seem to have failed. It started about a week go and just became ever more frequent. It happens randomly either when actively working, or just when the machine is sitting idle. When it crashes I notice that it doesn't boot back to Windows. It says it can't find a boot device. After a few minutes powered down it will restart, and then crash again within minutes. I read many forum posts and followed all the guidance, including scans of SSD drive and memory. No errors were found. There is no malware, and all drivers are up to date. I did a Restore of Windows 10 as a last resort. After it booted it lasted about 10 minutes before crashing again. i've had to give up and go back to my old Acer. Can anyone suggest what might have gone wrong and any other potential fixes? I did not add any new hardware, and also tried a restore point to a few weeks ago but that didn't help. I'm stuck and frustrated! Thanks

Hello

I have been trying to solve my coputer crashing for a long time.

At the moment, it is crashing after 5 minutes or less. If I choose diagnostic startup, then it ran right through the night ok and didnt seem to have any problems.

I am running XP SP2. Zone Alarm. AVG anti virus. Have checked the memory with memtest, checked out fine. Have installed everest and no heating issues. It appears to me to be some sort of driver conflict. I have 9200 series video card. Benq FP91G+ monitor. P4 3ghz with HT, I meg ram.

I am at a loss and desperately need some help!

thanks in advance

A:BSOD critical stop errors - help needed please.

Boot into safemode, go to control panel, find the system folder.
Then find the advanced tab in that folder. Go to system startup and
recovery. Uncheck the box that says automatic restart. The next
time it crashes it should give you a blue screen telling you the reason
why its crashing.
You could also try going into device manager and see if there are any
yellow or red flags on any of your hardware.

Stopped warning, now just shuts down.. Any ideas how I can restore warnings?

Also, having problems when I plug in set so display brightness should go to 100%, sometimes I have to plug/replug cause it stays dim from battery settings..

I did have some issue a few weeks ago with some new unrecognized power profile appearing (I guess after I installed some program or win update..?)

Any way to restore just the power profiles to default and undo any changes any programs may have made?

* Can I check win 7 logs & reports specifically for changes made to the power management, perhaps?....

Hi and greetings! Thanks for stopping by. I've been working for a couple weeks on a vexing problem. On a Lenovo Y550P laptop I have the following symptom: My computer operates fine when plugged into AC adapter but as battery power is utilized it always goes through a critical battery error before the laptop battery is fully discharged. It'll come down to 70% or so battery life as indicated by the system and other battery utilities but then it'll change and in the blink of an eye it'll switch down to 3% or less battery life and the battery LED indicator on the front panel will begin blinking and the computer goes through a shutdown procedure by the screen turning black and becoming inoperable after about 1 minute it fully shuts down. I've tried: 1) Swapping out batteries. I've been through two new ones already, both exhibit the same problem in addition to the older battery.2) Changing and adjusting various power settings. I altered the critical battery action to do nothing through the cmd prompt and it still goes through the same procedure. 3) Checking RAM - everything fine there.4) Downloading and installing Lenovo's battery management utility (I am working on a fresh install of windows 10). I changed settings in that to not power down or turn off backlight, etc to no avail.5) Calibrating the battery by draining until 0% and recharging until 100% I suspect the battery is not fully charging and that the system is displaying inaccurate battery info...
