Dell Precision 7710 with NVIDIA Quadro M5000M issues with WPF 3D Content

Q: Dell Precision 7710 with NVIDIA Quadro M5000M issues with WPF 3D Content

I have a
Dell Precision 7710
i7-6920HQ CPU @ 2.9GHz
32GB Ram
Windows 7 Pro Sp1
Nvidia Quadro M5000M driver version 369.49
which I purchased as an upgrade for my
Precision M6700
Our company has developed and uses a software package that utilises WPF to render 3D content in an XBAP in Internet Explorer. When I attempt to use this software on the 7710, the 3D content flickers a lot when it is redrawn, making it pretty much unusable. From the stats that we can get from our application, we can see that the update time for the redraw / present is about 45ms, whereas on most other PCs, even ones utilising the integrated Intel graphics, it is usually about 12ms.
We have used this software on a large number of PCs without experiencing anything this bad, which is obviously quite disappointing since the laptop should actually be able to display what we are asking it to without any hassles.
As far as I can tell all our drivers for everything on this laptop are up to date.
We have tried using the NVIDIA control panel to force the laptop to use the High Performance Nvidia Quadro card rather than integrated graphics and it appears to be doing so as we were able to make it display the notification icon in the task bar and that showed that IE was using the Nvidia.
I have tried tweaking just about every other setting I can think of / see.
I have tried using the Dell Precision Optimiser to select different profiles with no luck. The Dell Precision Optimiser does not actually appear to show the GPU CPU usage or any other stats to do with the GPU, which seems odd to me.
I ran the extended diagnostics tests on the laptop available on the Dell support site.
I have searched on the net and have found some instances of issues with Nvidia cards and WPF, but none of those things that we have found seem to apply to our application. We have desktops in the office with other Nvidia cards where it runs fine / the best of all.
Also, the fan on this 7710 goes pretty hard at times - harder than I would expect it to. I have tweaked the power settings to make it go less, but it still seems to run the fan more than I think it should / seems to on my M6700 - or maybe it is just a louder fan.
So, I am just wondering:
Has anyone out there experienced anything similar? If so, any suggestions on how to resolve or things to try would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Prior to today, I had a Dell Precision M6600 with....
Intel Core i7-2620M 2.7GYZ
NVIDIA Quadro 3000M
Windows 7

Using HDMI and the eDock, I was able to get it to work fine with my LG 34UB67-B at 2560 x 1080.

I recently got a Precision 7710 with

Core i7-6920HQ 2.9GHZ
Intel HD Graphics 530
NVIDIA Quadro 3000M
Windows 10

After updating all of the drivers I could find (LG, Intel 530, NVIDIA), I still can't get the 7710 to produce the 2560 x 1080 resolution?

According to the documentation I've read, this should be possible.

Any ideas?

So I've had two of this model give me the same issues. When booting the display shows the Dell logo and the Windows logo and then goes black. You can hear the Windows chimes but there is no display.
If the lid is closed and the computer goes to sleep then is reopened the log on screen is shown.
We have tried re-image and reinstalling all drivers in the proper order.
Updating BIOS and making sure that the video settings are correct.
No matter what we do every time the computer is booted the logon screen is black.

Hello I just won an ebay auction for the Nvidia Quadro 5000m. I plan to use it in the Dell Precision M6400, a laptop from a couple years ago. Now this video card wasn't originally shipped with the M6400, instead the M6500, but I heard it would fit inside the case and display on the laptop screen. My problem is that I am reading forums that claim that this video card(5000m) along with the AMD Firepro m7820 when used in the M6400 will not output video through DisplayPort, the dock, and possibly VGA. The also say that it will not display the Dell logo upon boot up so it's possibly a BIOS issue. My question is if there is possibly a solution or workaround to this problem

A:Dell Precision M6400 & Nvidia Quadro 5000m

There isn't going to be a workaround -- the system never shipped with that card, so the firmware won't support it.  It may produce an image internally, but it sounds like the rest (external displays or pre-Windows images) won't.

Hello, we currently have a Dell Precision T3620 with the only 290W power supply in it. We are looking to upgrade the video card to the NVidia Quadro P4000 or P5000. We realize we need a larger power supply for this.
Does anyone else have this same setup of Workstation and video card? If so, what power supply did you find that was compatible?

I'm re-installing my Dell Precision T1500 desktop work station changing from Windows 7 Professional 32-bit to 64-bit.
Can anyone explain if there is a reason I should install the nVidia Quadro FX580 driver 191.75 available by Dell
downloads since May, 2010 instead of more recent 267.05 driver available by nVidia downloads?
I know that installing manufacturer specific drivers is important when you have an OEM-version of a product installed or
an integrated graphics adapter/sound card but in my case the Quadro FX580 GPU has been added in post-upgrade
out of a retail box so it should be supported by the most recent Nvidia driver. Or?
On the other hand I got the following answer when scanning for a driver a few minutes ago on the nVidia website:
"Installed driver: 191.75
Your PC currently has the latest driver installed for your GPU. No driver update is necessary at this time."
Why isn't nVidia directing me to the most recent driver?
How can the 191.75 driver be the latest driver when there have been several more recent drivers launched by nVidia
for my graphics adapter since May, 2010?
Please tell me what to do. I would prefer to install the correct driver from start as experience shows
that replacing a GPU driver could prove to be an agonizing experience...

A:Which driver?: Dell Precision Desktop T1500 nVidia Quadro FX580 512Mb

Hi Andylindy,
The nVidia driver is preferred. If you go to the nVidia site and use their driver check tool, it will find the most current driver.

I have Precision T3500 that came with NVidia Quadro FX580 display adapter.
I had issues installing the latest NVidia driver for this card on Windows 7 (the screen would just go blank) but it was working fine with the three years old driver recommended by Dell, and now I am trying to upgrade to Windows 10 and it would automatically install the latest Windows 10 driver for this card that would freeze the system after reboot...
On Dell's support web site it says that Windows 10 is not supported on my system.
Any suggestions how to make Windows 10 work on Precision T3500 with NVidia Quadro FX580?

A:Precision T3500 with NVidia Quadro FX580 issues on Windows 7 and Windows 10 upgrade

The FX580 is a DX9  WDDM 1.0 card.
I have 2006 and 2005 E510's that have been upgraded with Pentium D 915 and 4 gigs of ram and they work Fine with windows 10 once you get at least a Geforce 610  or Radeon HD 5450 or better DX11 wddm 1.3 card.
The FX580 is an ancient vacccum tube card that is not suitable for AERO or Windows 7,8,10
It works with the original WDDM 1.0 Vista Drivers but it will not have WDDM 1.1 or 1.3 drivers.

I've got a Dell Precision 7710 with the Dell Precision Optimizer. It works great for when I'm using AutoCAD Civil 3D in setting up the laptop for optimization by turning off 2 cores and increasing the clock speed of the processor.
Unfortunately I also do programming with Virtual Machines. When I'm in this mode I want all 4 cores to share the load instead of 2 cores.
Is there a workflow available to go from one profile to no profile? Do I have to do a restart to switch between profiles? So if I'm doing CAD work and then switch over to programming do I have to turn off the AutoCAD profile to no profile and the restart the computer? I tried turning off the profiles and nothing changes for the cores.
Is there a way to create my own profile? Or should I pick one like 3ds Max that would utilize more cores?  Or should I not use it since it won't meet my needs?
Thanks.

My Dell Precision 7710 is 5 months old. One week ago the audio on my Windows 10 disappeared - the speaker icon got a red cross. Clicking on it I get the message that no audio speaker is connected. I reinstalled the drivers - tried three types: from Dell's website, Nvidia's and directly from Realtek - no result. Then reinstalled Windows with drive_C formatting: still no sound. I know that my laptop has a built-in Audio from Realtek. But in the Device Manager in the list of sound devices there is no such device: just "NVIDIA High Definition Audio" (in case of Nvidia's driver was installed) and "Audio Device High Definition Audio" (in case of Dell's standard driver) - both related to the HDMI output. No mentioning about Realtek Audio. It looks like Windows 10 doesn't recognize Realtek audio hardware anymore. I launched device test from Dell's Support website - the results said the system is alright, no problems. Thinking that probably this is a hardware issue I also launched the ePSA diagnostics (pressing F12 on the startup), but the test hasn't found any hardware problems. But when I clicked to audio test there (there was something about test beep) - there was no sound from the speaker. But Windows 10 still doesn't see any sound device (except that mentioning about HDMI). Here is 3 screenshots:https://imgur.com/a/ZgVYTWhat's the problem with it and how to fix it? Thank you. ... I sent it to the repair depot and they put a new motherboard (5RY82 - Motherboard) and video card (YM9KW - Graphics Card) in it then sent it back to me. I powered it up and everything worked except for the backlit keyboard. I called and Dell Support sent me a replacement backlit keyboard that I swapped in and the replacement does not light up either. Hello all,
I just got in a new Precision 7710 system. I checked out the battery and it says 91 Wh, Standard, Li-ion Battery, Type MFKVP".
However, the order I played had Lithium Polymer selected:
"451-BBUV | 6 Cell (91 Whr) Long Life Cycle Lithium Polymer battery"
Was I given the wrong battery or is it incorrectly labeled?

A:Dell Precision 7710 Batteries - Do I have Lithium Polymer?

No, you do not have the correct battery.
Unfortunately, Dell never made this battery or discontinued it before shipping (yet as of mid-April 2016 they are still offering it on new systems. Ugh.) The 91Whr Lithium-Ion battery (much cheaper) is their replacement equivalent.
You and I have been OVERCHARGED for a battery that they don't have. Call Dell and GET A REFUND.

Hello,
I would like to upgrade graphics card in my precision m6700 and I was thinking about k5100m, but I'm not sure if It's that easy to install this card in my laptop. Probably I have to do some software upgrade(bios?). Does anybody use this card with m6700 or another card which is not supported by original Dell m6700 configuration? Is it hard to upgrade? How does it work later? Did you have any problems?

A:Nvidia Quadro K5100m in Precision m6700?

Graciously, you can easily find working drivers by going to laptopvideo2go.com (which I have already attached a link to this response--hope it works)
 www.laptopvideo2go.com/.../disclaimer
Preliminary
First of all know the sub vendor of your quadro k5100m (without which you will proceed to method 2 which is even easy). In my case I was specifically using a quadro k5100m card “biosed” or sub-vended by dell so modification was easy. For instance the k5100m is referenced by nvidia with code 11B8; Dell sub-vendor ref is 1028; and my m6700 bridge ref was 153F (15CD for m6800)
NB: Using any driver that is not WHQL certified or certified by dell (or nvidia) may surely void your warranty. Also the drivers to be "transmogrified" can only be installed if driver signature verification is disabled (in windows 7 press F8 and select disable driver signature; windows 8/8.1 legacy the same as in windows 7; but if UEFI mode in windows 8/8.1 do further research on how to disable driver signature

Initials

Download the official driver from dell (latest Video_Driver_X9T7N_WN32_9.18.13.4752_A11)
Extract the driver to your main hdd (where windows is installed). For example into folder "C:\K5100M driver"
Open the folder from which file is extracted
Search for and open sub folder "Display.Driver
Open with notepad, file "nvdm.info" in folder "Display.Driver"
Now begin Transmogrification

Hi,
I purchased a Dell Precision 7710 laptop 2 months ago from Dell's website with the fingerprint touch sensor.  Afterwards, I installed Windows 10.
The laptop has been working fine until I installed the following update for ControlVault

Dell ControlVault2 Driver and Firmware
View details
File Name: Security_Driver_JP80V_WN64_4.4.28.187_A06.EXE

Importance: Recommended

Description: Update Package for Microsoft® Windows® 64-Bit. (27.78 MB)

Release Date: 10 Aug 2016

Version: 4.4.28.187 ,A06

Last Updated: 19 Aug 2016
The update appeared to succeed, but now I get a notification saying "ControlVault firmware upgrade in progress" EVERY REBOOT.  I tried uninstalling the ControlVault application, but that doesn't get rid of the popup.

In the Event Manager, it shows an Event ID 2 for the source "USHUpgradeService" with a description of "CV firmware upgrade failed".

1)  How can I uninstall the ControlVault software?

2)  Is there a fix for a bad firmware install?  Or is the ControlVault hardware useless now?

Hi,
I searched the forums and the only posts involved the AMD card and I have an Nvidia card.  I couldn't find any information on the K4000M so I called tech support and they told me it was 2560x1600.  But then I found another forum where they said even the K1000M can do 4k.
I hooked up my 4k TV to the HDMI and used the Nvidia custom resolution to set up 3840x2160 at 30 hz and the display works.  The graphics look great, but the text is super fuzzy.  The TV supports 4K at 60Hz, but I'm not sure if the HDMI port on the back of my M6700 supports 60Hz.
Does the HDMI support 60Hz at 4k?  What about the display port?  Any idea why my text is super fuzzy while the graphics are razor sharp?
Thanks,
Ali

A:Precision M6700 Nvidia Quadro K4000M max resolution 4K monitor display port hdmi refresh rate

Hi,
First, I'm going to refer you to this article from Nvidia discussing Ultra 4k Resolution.  The important statement is this:

The current HDMI 1.4 standard only has bandwidth for 4K at 30hz. HDMI 2.0 will add support for 4K at 60Hz. Details should become clearer in late 2013. There are a few TVs on sale today that support 4K @ 30Hz through HDMI.

Now, according to this review and article about the K4000m card specifications, it states that the card has HDMI 1.4 connections, which means it won't, theoretically, handle Ultra 4k resolution at the 60Hz bandwidth.
I also found this on documentation online about the Precision 6700.

The Precision™ M4700 & M6700 incorporates HDMI version 1.4. Features

So, unfortunately, it doesn't sound like that card will support the higher refresh rate needed.
As for Display port

DisplayPort cables are much simpler to define: There’s just one type! The current version, DisplayPort 1.2, delivers enough bandwidth to carry video resolutions of up to 3840 by 2160 pixels at a refresh rate of 60Hz

So Display Port would be a much better option for you, if available.
I hope this answers your questions.
Todd

I recently bought a Dell Precision M4800 mobile workstation with a Nvidia Quadro K2100 GPU.
I am having issues on video playback - flickering and other lined artefacts towards the top of the display. This occurs during panned shots, rapidly changing images, etc. but this is supposed to be a super graphics card so there should be no problems.
I have tried playout on other monitors/projectors, all with same result. I thought at first there was an issue with the rendering of the video files I had produced from Avid Media Composer but I see the same artefacts on DVD playout and on video from Vimeo/Youtube.
Response from Dell ProSupport has been a little slow (they tell my I "only have basic support") so I'm posting the issue here in case anyone has had similar issues or knows a solution.
My guess is that the GPU is faulty, or perhaps the drivers (though I have checked if these are up to date, and they are).

Ok. I experimented with different resolutions, particularly the native resolution for the laptop monitor of 3200x1800 (I had it a t 1920x1080 so that I am able to read text - Windows hasn't resolved the scaling issue for these new hi res monitors)... Still the same artefacts during playback, although DVD playback on the Laptop monitor was improved.

Mostly this is looking for feedback from other users, and to allow Dell to see there is a problem if others have the same issues.
Just a little note about this computer :

It was purchased with a FirePro 5100m, which had all sorts of lag, issues, and perpetually broken drivers (such as ones from dell failed to allow you to set global power profiles and so on)
hinges were poping/creaking from day one the first time I opened the lid. GPU and CPU fans scraped from day one. Hinges have been replaced 2x in 2 years now. GPU/CPU fans have been replaced once as well.

the hinge thing really bothers me as the replacement set from last time is popping again, and I use the laptop docked most of the time. Id say I open the lid at most 2x a week. Dell claims there is no issue, and put out a PSA post about it that they don't cover it, indicating to me they know there is an issue. But since they switched from spring loaded barrel hinges to these *** pressed together friction sleeves they have had wobble, binding, and are just <cheap> junk I don't expect in my thousand dollar + workstation laptop.
after fighting it for nearly a year I was sent a replacement FirePro 5100m, which did the same things. A Quadro k2100m was also dispatched at the time because I was afraid it was an AMD card based issue due to the number of posts here about it.

hey,
Recently I bought some parts from the local classifieds. A foxconn destroyer AM2+ mobo, a cpu for said board, a 250gb hdd, and 4gb of ddr2 (i upgraded to 8 total) all for $60. I had the rest (case, psu, extra hdd, DVD-RW). But I installed my old workstation PCIe gfx card that I pulled from a working old dell precision circa 2008. It worked great in the dell and let me update its drivers too. Which is what i am having an issue with right now. I downloaded the Nvidia drivers+installer twice to rule out a bad installer but neither work. They run for a while and then fail when installing. The monitor used to flicker on and off (for the new driver) and then it would revert back to the included MS driver. I was using the provided MS driver but tried playing L4D2 and it crashed after loading the map. I searched it and it was most likely the gfx card. Also when I launched it through steam it told me I should update the driver before continuing. I've tried updating the driver manually (device manager) and with the installer. Both used to install then revert to the old driver but now in device manager it says installing for a bit then gives an error (the drivers for this device are not installed code 28). I am at somewhat of a loss now. I could try my other old gfx card, its about the same as they both are 512mb cards but the other is more for gaming. The thing is I dont want to download too much because I have a crap 3G hotspot which is Verizon so its automatically even worse. An... Read more

Bought an XPS 8900 from Best Buy May 2016. Used as stock config since then as a home CAD machine.
I think it came stock with a GeoForce 730, maybe ?
Had it hooked up to a single Dell monitor via the DVI cable.
I took an NVidia Quadro 2000 2GB video card from an older XPS 8700 that I had installed it in and had been running fine, plug and play, and removed the GeoForce 730 from my new XPS 8900 and installed the Quadro 2000 in the new 8900, expecting no problems.
The Quadro has DVI out and two (2) Displayport out. I tried the DVI, no luck. The tried the Displayport, still no luck. Monitor is asleep, does not respond.
I know this card is a little older, but I am not sure why it would not be supported on the 8900, when I just plug and played it on the 8700, no problem?????
is the NVidia Quadro 2000 not supported for some reason? why?
Is there any way I can make this work ont he XPS 8900?

Tried reset by removing CMOS battery. no luck

Thanks.

A:Dell M6700 Nvidia Quadro K4000M No display After Secure Boot

So i managed to solve the problem.
There are issues with K4000m running in secure boot. You must not disable legacy boot rom.
If you have no display at all here is the painful solution:
Make sure you can open the notebook and put it back together again. (Use an anti-static band etc). remember the screw type and locations etc. refer to a manual or take it to a technician.
So, you will have top open up the whole laptop. remove the Graphics card, remove the screen connectors and connect the laptop to an external display via d-sub (VGA) port. You have a display now. Go to the BIOS and disable secure boot and enable Legacy boot ROM.
Put back the graphics card and everything is back in place.
Recommended BIOS: A15, Still dont use secure boot.
I think the K4000m did not have an EFI rom boot. So hence no display.
Hope it helps anyone having the same problem.

Dell Optiplex 380 desktop computer, running windows 10 32-bit.
Cables being used are;
VHDCI to DVI-D splitter to 4 screens,
DVI-D to VGA straight connection to connect 4 VGA displays
So this setup goes as follows;
VHDCI >  VHDCI to DVI-D Splitter > DVI-D to VGA straight connection > VGA cable to each screen
With the above setup, Looking at the graphics card theres power going to it as fan is spinning but the screens remain unresponsive.
I have also looked in the BIOS to check if there anything there stopping it from working, everything looks ok to me.
Is there anything else I can try?
Thanks
Simon Wylie

I need help! So I'm reaching out to you even know this is not the forum--any ideas? Loved to make this ol' 64 bit run again for my kid!
I need to get a video card that will work with Windows 10 on a Dell Precision 380--It's a PCIe card with a power connector on the card. Can't figure that out. Any ideas? It has a FX 3450 card now.
Also I have a Pentium D 3.0 GHz with 8 GB of RAM so it's working--kind'a. I can't update the driver on the video card because this is so old, but it's running Windows 10 without a hiccup except for the video latency--skips like crazy--Didn't have the problem with XP: just after the upgrade. Mind you, this is 64 bit

I just purchased a Dell Precision 5510 with a Xeon CPU and the Quadro GPU: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291755935648
I plan on promptly upgrading the SSD to a PCIe NVMe SSD if it does not have one, the 16GB RAM is fine for now but I like that I have the option to go up to 32GB when I choose to.
I had some questions for anyone who is using this for more intense work in 3D or digital imaging, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of information out there except that the Quadro 1000m is mostly better than a GTX 960-970m GeForce card because most 3D software is more compatible with it and it is more efficient in rendering which means better performance overall – is this true or just marketing for a lower powered GPU?
I mainly use Maya, Cinema 4D, After Effects and Photoshop in my workflow, most of the work is performed by the CPU but a decent GPU helps to boost render times with certain software and plugins for said software.
I read that the Xeon CPU is built for 24/7 high load server work and enterprise solutions and that it is more effective at heat dissipation than a GeForce variant. I really liked the idea of the laptop handling heat and performace better in this workstation type of a laptop, I plan to keep it cooled with a pad because I know that rendering can be a huge task for most laptops. What I gathered from that info is that I could use this for rendering and not really worry about frying the mobo like might happen with an i7 and GTX combina... Read more

I am trying to do a clean install of Win 7 Pro on my Precision 7710 and every time I boot off of the DVD and click Install it goes a screen saying there are no drivers found for the device. I have tried switching to UMEI mode, RAID mode, Legacy on and off... no luck. What drivers am I missing exactly?

A:Cannot install Win 7 on Precision 7710

Hello!  In the BIOS make sure RAID is off and switched to AHCI, Legacy should be on, secure boot off.  Then when you hit the F key (forget which one) to access what to boot from, make sure you are using legacy DVD drive and not anything that would say UEFI.  As long as you are not using RAID or via some USB 3 external drive you should be fine.

All right, so my company has a try-buy 7710 that we're thinking of making our high end standard. This unit has 2x M.2 PCIe drives in it.
I have integrated the following hotfix into our installation wim for Windows 7 (not necessary in the boot wim, since its WinPE 10):
All of our drivers are successfully imported into MDT, and they're injected during the task sequence. However, when MDT reboots from PE into Windows, I get a BSOD 0x7B. When booting in safe mode, it crashes at DISK.SYS
All right. Tells me it's a driver issue then.
What driver do I need to remove / inject in order to get this functioning? I'm really trying to make a strong case about Dell to my manager, but issues like this make it really hard on my part.

Ok I found the solution. Its the NVMe driver is needed, here is a link to the Driver on HP's site. I was not able to find the driver on Dell's site.

I have a new 7710 that came with a 256GB NVMe SSD.  I have upgraded it to a Samsung 950 Pro 512.  I am using Windows 10 UEFI.
I have a question on the bios setting.  Should it be AHCI or RAID.  The machine came default with RAID On and came with Win 10 Pro pre-installed.
Currently I switched it to ACHI, used the MS Download and installed Win 10 Pro.  Once in windows, I installed all the dell drivers and also the Samsung NVMe driver.
I have read on different forums that the bios setting should be RAID, but also read it should be AHCI.
Question:  Which should it be.  Is one better than the other?
Or is it just that if in AHCI, it will use the MS NVMe Driver (or Samsung NVMe Driver) and if in RAID, it will use the Intel IRST drivers?
I assume if AHCI like I have it, then I can use the Samsung NVMe Driver.  I have read if not in AHCI, the Samsung NVMe Driver will not install.
If I switch to RAID, then I would need to use the Intel Rapid Storage Tech (IRST) Driver and not the samsung driver (I read samsung driver will not install if AHCI).
So I am confused if one is better than the other (AHCI or Raid).
FYI, I have been using for around 10 days and no BSOD due to the PCIe NVMe drive.

A:Precision 7710 and Samsung NVMe 950 Pro

I own a Precision 7510 and am in the same situation. I did exactly the same except that I left the BIOS setting to Raid ON. When in Raid ON the Samsung Magician can only do the following:

Disk drive information for all installed disks. Particularly with the NVMe drive S.M.A.R.T. is not functioning even though it should be. All other drives display S.M.A.R.T. correctly.
Performance Benchmark. Only this function is selectable. All other functions are not available. Probably because the Intel Rapid Storage Techonlogy driver is loaded and not the Samsung NVMe

From performance view it seems pretty fast. Today I am going to change the BIOS setting to AHCI and I will share my results.

Hi!
Our corporation are running several lines of computers from Dell where as the Precision 7710 (soon to be 7720) is currently the "top of the line" laptop computer available for our employees.
Some of us are finding the Quadro cards installed limiting for certain tasks and I am currently researching the possibilities connecting an external egpu unit to the P7710 through the Thunderbolt 3 port.
The setup I have is, as mentioned, a P7710 connected to an Asus Rog XG Station 2 holding an Asus Strix Geforce GTX 1080 TI inside. It's not working. I spent the entire day reading forums and reddits, flashing bios and updating all drivers possible. I've also been tweaking and adjusting settings inside the BIOS ot get it working.
As far as I can tell the Thunderbolt firmware currently available to the P7710 is not supporting external GPUs. PD Firmware version is currently 16.00. Thunderbolt do recognize the external unit by name though.
Any help getting it working or notification on implementation progress is really appreciated!
Thank you.
Best regards.
Anders

Frequently, the screen on my Precision 7710 will not wake up. I can actually remotely connect to the laptop at this time and work on it fine but sitting in front of it, the only thing that works is a hard reboot. I've similar issues on other models related to BIOS. I figured that Windows 10 updates would fix the problem but it persists since Dec-15 when I bought it. Anybody managed to find a fix for this?

Hi,
I'm custom configuring a Precision 7710 system and trying to pick a 2nd SSD.
The boot drive will be the "512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe High Performance Class 50 Solid State."   I believe it's connected directly to the PCIe bus buss via an M.2 connector.
For the second drive I'm considering the "512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe High Performance Class 50 Solid State Drive with Interposer."   However, I looked up Interposer and it appears to be a SATA adapter. So, does this mean the 2nd drive will be running on the SATA bus?  If so, this high performance PCIe SSD will not be able to live up to it's full potential due to the SATA bottleneck, right?   I would be better off just getting a cheaper SATA drive, no?
Thanks!

Hello together,
hope some one has an idea.
We have an Precision 7710 which often, e.g. after returning back to the docking station, doesn't recognize the USB devices like mouse, keyboard and wireless headset anymore. These are connected to the docking station.
In the device manager are then a lot of unrecognized devices also.
We changed already the docking-station, no effect.
We tried to uninstall / install USB device drivers.
We made BIOS update.
Dell support changed the main board, that had no effect either.
The device got reimaged, then it worked for two weeks.
Now the problem reappeared. The user has no administrative rights, no installations have been done in the mean time. He only worked with the laptop, e.g. connected USB sticks, a Nokia phone and a 3D mouse.
I got it running again by deleting the unknow devices in device manager, then docking again. But after some minutes and undocking / docking the problem appeared again.
We have the same Laptop with same installations at other places with no problems.
Dell hotline says now I have to reimage again, it is probably a software error.
Is it really possible that connecting some USB devices can break all USB ports at the docking station?
Probably we will reimage one more time and take care then which devices we will connect.
But I don't really know what to do then. I fear the problem will appear at random again.
Windows 10 64-bit is used.

I have a Precision 7710 that the adapter does not power up on the newer Boeing 777's.  I've been told that the 240w adapter is the issue.  The plane power limit is apparently 95w?  Anyone know if a lesser wattage adapter would work with the Precision 7710?  Doesn't need to charge the battery, only needs to power the laptop so I can work longer than 2-3 hours on my long 13 hour flights.

A:Precision 7710 no adapter power on Boeing 777

You need a more portable system than this one if you plan to use it on long flights - there's no way 95W will power a Precision 7710.
Consider  buying a lightweight tablet-2 in one or a 14" or smaller travel notebook (or extra batteries, assuming they permit those on the plane).

I decided to upgrade my Dell Precision 7710 (service tag: <Service tag removed>) from non-ECC memory to ECC memory. The laptop was originally configured with 8Gb of non-ECC RAM (2x4GB 2133MHz Hynix p/n HMA451S6AFR8N-TF). After replacing the original memory with ECC(2x16GB 2400MHz Crucial CT16G4TFD824A.18FA1 p/n 18ASF2G72HZ-2G3A1 ) the laptop does not boot. Status LED blinks 2 times amber and 5 times white. The cycle repeats few times and the computer powers off.
I'm using only primary memory banks (both of them are working fine with original sticks) and the newest available BIOS – 1.9.5 .
I've tested several configurations and the only one that works is mixing an old 2133MHz non-ECC stick with a new 2400Mhz ECC stick. This suggests that BIOS is not able to handle scenario when only 2400MHz memory is installed.
Are there any chances that this will be fixed by BIOS update?
The same issue has been reported for Dell Precision 7510 (with valuable technical data) -> http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/precision-7510-weird-problems-with-crucial-16gb-ram-ecc-stick-only-boots-if-you-mix-the-ram.801052/

According to the technical specifications, only DDR4 2133 ECC is supported.

Precision 7710 How many m.2 SSDs can install into 2.5" drive bay
What parts are needed to achieve maximum?

A:Precision 7710 How many m.2 SSDs can install into 2.5" drive bay

The 2.5" drive bay still only has a single SATA connector available on the motherboard, so even though multiple M.2 SSDs would physically fit in the space of a 2.5" drive bay, you wouldn't have a way to connect them all. Even if you only wanted one, I'm not sure there's an M.2 to SATA adapter.  I know there are mSATA to SATA, but that's a different physical connector.  Also note that even if there WERE an M.2 to SATA adapter,  you would need to ensure that your M.2 SSD used the SATA protocol, not NVMe/PCIe, since that would not be able to run over SATA (and even if it could, its performance would suffer significantly by doing so).

I am new to the forum and this is my first post.  Just wanted to give a heads up on an issue I recently discovered.  I haven't found much on this I guess because the system is still pretty new.
I received a brand new Precision 7710 and the first thing I do is complete all Windows updates and do any driver updates that need to be done.
Here are the laptop specs:

I received this laptop on Monday March 21, 2016, saw that there were approx 4 or 5 driver updates on dell.com/support.
I chose to download all updates to the desktop and update from there as I always do.
I saved the bios update for the next day March 22, 2016 as I wanted to be in my office to do this update.  I am well aware you can easily turn your laptop into a brick if the update goes south.
I come in and begin the update via the Precision_7X10_148.exe on the desktop I had downloaded from dell.co... Read more

Wow! You saved me.
I had the exact same issue with the 7710 and the 1.4.8 BIOS.  Motherboard replacement was scheduled for tomorrow.
I did a search found your post and now my machine is back in business.  No replacement necessary.
Thank you for troubleshooting this and posting the solution.
