DVD Drive won't play movies/music

Q: DVD Drive won't play movies/music

Good day all,,

I am working on a Gateway Pentium II laptop ,
that has a Matshita DVD player in it. It will work
with data CD's, music CD, however whenever
I try to play a Movie.. no luck. When do I need
to do to make the DVD work.. Windows Media Player
is installed and we are working with Windows ME.
However he only has 98 MB Ram... No problems in
Device Manager...

Preferred Solution: DVD Drive won't play movies/music

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I can hear the background music, but not the foreground vocals. Highly frustrating. Re-installed xp, and this is what I wound up with. I tried installing a different media player, namely, The KMPlayer, and it seemed to work. However, last night, it started happening even with that player. Drivers for my sound card are correct and current.

Sound card is a: Chaintech AV-710.

The Driver is: Envy24 Family Audio Controller WDM

Strange thing was that The KMPlayer seemed to resolve the issue, but now it has started again.

Any and all advice appreciated...

A:DVD's and movies only play with music, no voices..

I looked into channel controls in the Envy control panel, and am sure that it is set to 2 speaker, left and right, as I only have 2 speakers up front, not in a surround set up. Last night, I removed the pci soundcard, and turned on the Mobo HD audio, which did the trick, but I can't believe that this is the only way to fix it. There is a bit of a quality loss going back to onboard sound as well.

Any advice folks?

I have a Pioneer DVR-103 DVD-RW drive and now all of a sudden it won't play any dvd movies. I have tried it on Windows Media Player and on WinDVD5 and nothing happens. It will play audio cd'd but not dvd movies. I am running Windows XP. I need help!!!! Pleaseeeeeeeeeeee!!

A:DVD Drive won't play movies!!!

Sounds like the dvd decoder got messed up somehow.

I would look for a virus or any other foreign data in your computer first to see if that is the culprit. If that's not the case, then I would re-install the drive and make sure that you have the latest drivers for it installed as well.

Also, check the region you have it set up for. On some drives you can only change them so many times so be careful and monitor what you have it set up for and how many times you've changed it. I've heard of people basically ruining drives because of this.

Hope that helps some, kiregar

HELP, I just got my friend's ASUS DVD-ROM drive installed on my computer today, but when I tried playing DVD movies, the DVD player (ASUSDVD) just keep giving the error message "Software DVD Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The same happened when I used Windows Media Player, RealDVD Player to play that disk... I also tried playing another DVD movie and still no luck... Even though I can see the contents of the disks in the Windows Explorer but the movies just won't be played... It wouldn't even play VCD movies (same error message)...

However, softwares seem to run fine... Please tell me what might the problem and how may I solve it?

You would need a power source and IDE to USB or other interface adapter, and would not be cost effective (it would cost more than the CD-r/rw drive), and won't play movies. You would do better to get an external drive like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106338

I have a new HP ENVY 700-147C with 12GB RAM running win 8.1 & I have a vexing problem; I can easily mount an iso file to virtual drive from windows explorer but I am not able to play it with PowerDVD or any other player.. It sees the virtual drive but it does not load the movie only the VIDEO & AUDIO_TS folders with the VOB files are seen. However, PowerDVD will automatically play a movie on dvd disk when it is inserted into the player & it can play it from windows explorer by right clicking on the dvd drive & 1 of the choices is "Play with Cyberlink Powerdvd." When I right click a virtual drive containing an ISO file from my HDD, showing drive letter & title, just like the DVD disk, the "Play With Cyberlink PowerDVD" choice does not appear. This is very annoying & is driving me nuts. Any help appreciated.

I bought a Liteon DVD-CD burner Combo drive a month ago. It played DVD movies just fine until 2 days ago. Troubleshooter says it's fine, so I thought it was a software error and reinstalled Power DVD 5. It stilll won't work. All it does is after I put the disc in, the HDD loads for a minute and the system reboots. I have no idea what to do now. It makes me sick to think I may have to shell out another $44 for a new one. puke: Now it won't even load CD-ROM games unless they're already installed. I updated the firmware but it still won't work. I may just have to vent my frustration out on it. :knock:

Since I bought my Vista PC I could not get the Autoplay feature to work and had to access all CDs and DVDs through the DVD drive on My Computer. That worked OK till now - I clicked on a music CD and it would open and play in Windows Media Player. Now when I click on the CD an Application Not Found message appears. To play it I have to right click the CD, click Open to reveal the tracks, left click on a track and the CD then opens and plays in WMP. Can anyone advise me how I can fix this. Is this a DVD problem or a Vista problem.
Also how can I get Autoplay to work- I have followed the correct Vista procedure for Autoplay but it doesn't work.

I have a a DVD drive that plays music but doesn't recognize any of the bootable DVDs I have. I also have a USB Drive with a Windows 7 system on it and that isn't recognized either. With the USB drive I have been able to play or remove MP4 movie files but not boot.

What specific information can I provide? I have basically run through the tutorial on this forum with no help. Would certainly go through the process from scratch to see if I can get this fixed. I suspect it has something to do with some software program that stepped on some obscure registry setting.

A:DVD Drive play music but doesn't recognize bootable DVDs

It would be good to know what program on the DVD you are trying to boot.

Also, if you put an installation DVD in the drive does the installation start?

How are you trying to boot these devices?
Does the Alienware PC have a key to press to bring up the Boot Menu?
What is the Boot Order in your BIOS/UEFI?

Hi there. I am having some trouble with some of my DVD+RW discs right now. Because I ripped some of my audio CD's using my Windows Media Player, and then I burned my DVD+RW disc to my SonicRecord Now burning sofware. And this software came with my computer. And it's been working for me a long time. But right now I am having major problems with my DVD+RW discs because I put all of my music onto my disc.

So I put this DVD+RW disc into my CD Burner drive. And by the way, just to let you know that my CD Burner is the DVD+Rewritable type of burner drive. So I put in this DVD+RW with all of my music on it, and my computer started to crash and freeze on me! Man, this gets so annoying and frustrating when this happens! And also my CD burner light was flashing green along with my hard drive light at the same time! And I have like no idea why it was doing this for. For my computer I have a Dell Dimension 4600 with XP Home Edition.

So do you know why that this is happening to me for? You know what I'm thinking? I am probably thinking that DVD+RW discs are only made for putting DVD's on them only. But not music! So that is probably the reason why my computer keeps crashing on me for no reason. So instead, I should be using just a plain CD-RW or CD-R. But I am using these DVD+RW discs because they last for about 2 hours more then just the CD-RW discs do. But that's not really good though for me. Oh well. So do you know if there's any way to fix this problem that I ... Read more

A:My CD Burner drive doesn't play DVD+RW disc for audio music

DVD+RW discs are a little tricky to work with. After recording to an RW you must Finalize the disc in the recording software. If you do not Finalize the disc, then the disc will not read. Also, there are only so many uses for an RW. You can only Erase (Format) the disc so many times before they stop working well. I suggest to always use -R discs. They are one time use only, but much easier to work with. Are you putting your music on discs to back them up or do you have a DVD player that plays Data discs? Or are you making a DVD Audio disc? If you are just backing up, why not consider a USB HDD?

A:My Computer Freezes when i play game online or play music

Sounds like a build up of heat, the most common cause of 'freezing' try running with the case side off and see if there is improvement, if there is you need to add more cooling, making sure your current fans are working properly and are clear of fluff and muck can improve cooling performance dramatically especially the CPU fan and heatsink.

A:How do i get Music videos and movies on my PSP

First thing you need to do is to make sure that the vids are in MP4 format, the same format that will play on the iPod. Then navigate to the root folder and placec them in the videos folder. That should do it. It's the same as placing pics and music, just make sure you place them in the properly named folders on the memory stick. Hope this helps.

Note: Other video formats besides MP4 may work on the PSP, but i'm nor sure, i have never tried myself.

I am trying to play system sound through Skype calls so that the other end can hear. I have tried using a Virtual Audio Cable for this but the quality is really bad, just sounds like I'm blasting a speaker into the mic. The only problem is, when I play a Youtube video, the sound doesn't go through. This is my sound control panel when playing music:

As you can see the visualizer on the right side is completely silent, and it's not going through at all. I've searched elsewhere for solutions and they are all faulty. I feel like I'm missing something huge here. Hope one of you can help me. Thanks

A:Solved: No audio: Movies and music

Welcome to TSG...
What file type are you currently having trouble playing? What are your system specs?

VLC player plays everything so if you dont hear any sound I can only assume..

1. The File has No Sound

2. Your system is configured to play sound through a different device. (go to control panel sound)

When you download music or movies it sue UDP protocol only? Or when you download any datas like pdf file is use TCP/IP protocol?

A:When you download music or movies it sue UDP or TCP/IP protocol?

That is correct, TCP requires each packet sent to be acknowledged before the next packet is sent to the client. TCP is used for data and webpages so that information can be recovered if packets are lost. To speed the process up the host will send more and more packets each time to the client reducing the amount of acknowledgements needed. If one packet is dropped then the packet count sent is reduced to maintain stability. This is known as 'Windowing'.

UDP is another Transport protocol where no acknowledgement from the client is received. UDP is typically used for streaming services such as video or VoIP. This is because a packet that is resent would not be needed since the time has already passed when the packet was needed. This also reduces the bandwidth required for running a stream application since less packets are sent overall (No acknowledgments). The most noticeable applications which use UDP to transport packets are DNS requests, video and voice streaming and online multiplayer gaming.

The ports on each protocol will be different. For example TCP Port 80 (http) is not the same as UDP Port 80

A typical analogy would be:

TCP : "Tell me when you get there"

UDP: "I hope it gets there"

Hope This Helps,

I have made a lot of VHS videos, and I have been able, with the proper VHS recorder, to insert audio (songs from CDs) onto the videos. My VHS machine has an "audio insert" button. I am now wanting to do the same sort of thing, but with DVDs instead of VHS tapes. I am looking for a DVD recorder (or software) that would allow me to add music (from a CD) on top of a recorded home movie , just as I was able to do with my VHS home movies. Can you tell if there is such a dvd recorder, or software for my computer, that would enable me to take a homemade dvd recording, and overdub music onto the picture that is already there? I am looking for the least complicated, user-friendly method. Thanks.

Just about any video editing software program like Adobe Premiere Elements, Sony Vegas, Pinnacle Studio, will let you reduce or mute the natural audio to any extent you want and add your own audio. Premiere Elements is particularly good at this since you can add two additional audio tracks, or three if you eliminate the original audio alltogether, plus a narration track and a soundtrack track (I have version 3.0) and you have full control over precise placement/adjustment of the audio--something that wouldn't be very easy to do with a hardware solution. Its also a breeze to create the DVDs from there as well so that would be my solution.

I am trying to add music to my father's home movies to put on a dvd. Using Pinnacle Studio I added the track and clicked the "Play Continuous" button but it stops about half way through the movie. I need to join two song tracts into one file or find a way for it to keep replaying until the movie is over. Can anyone help me do this? I have Windows media player and movie maker. thank you for your help.

I recently upgraded my Compaq Presario 17XL265 from Win 98SE to XP Home. Now is can only play some movies while others causes the computer to freeze up and I must re-boot. Any suggestions? I have tried several different players such as Windows Media Player 10, Compaq DVD Deluxe, Win DVD, and a few others but the result is the same. Some DVDs play and some don't.
