Monitor goes to sleep while gaming

Q: Monitor goes to sleep while gaming

Dear all,

I've got a problem with monitor going to sleep while gaming. It happens randomly, it could happen every 10 min (like today), or it could happen once in a month. When monitor goes to sleep, it is not possible to wake it up with mouse or keyboard. It requires hard restart, to fix the problem. Also, when monitor goes to sleep I can still hear game sound, Youtube, etc. But cannot do anything else.

I've put power setting to high performance and put display to never go to sleep. Tried reinstall newest drivers, cleaned dusts. Even reinstalled windows to see if it could be software problem, but it didn't helped.

I don't think this have anything to do with overheating, since even when gaming, the max temp of GPU doesn't go more that 55 C. And GPU, don't go up more than 65 C. Also, nor GPU, nor CPU are overlocked.

The best bet I have, that this is somehow PSU problem, but it is weird for me, that this sleep thing happens so random. I can play game and use programs, I usually use (Firefox, Discord, etc) for a week or month without any problems. And one day it happens every 10 min, although I'm not using any other programs or not doing anything different.

I don't know if this is important, but GPU and monitor are connected with VGA connector. Maybe I should try to buy HDMI cable and use it instead. If this has something to do with connector loose or something like that.

Computer specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460
Motherboard: GIGABYTE Z97P-D3
GPU: GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 970 970 Mini-ITX OC
HDD: ST2000DM001-1ER164
SSD: Kingston SV300S37A240G
Monitor: Dell S2340L
PSU: CoolerMaster RS-700-ACAB-B1

I have no possibility to change GPU or PSU and try different one, to test it out. But maybe there is some tests I could make to identificate the problem?

Any suggestions and advises are welcomed.

Thank you in advance.

P.S I'm sorry if I'm posting to the wrong thread.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

So this is the 2nd time this has come up so I wanted to get some extra opinions on this. Last night i was playing WAR Online, my computer had been on for most of the day and running perfect when all of a sudden my monitor just goes into hibernation. It just went black, displayed the no DVI signal and refused to respond when attempting to do anything to bring it out of hibernation, the only solution was to reset the computer Via the button. The first time i have come across this problem was actually a month ago when i first updgraded to the new Nvidia 180.48 drivers, i had been using nvidias Performance package as well for overclocking of my GPU. After upgrading to 180.48 the monitor would cut out upon starting the computer up right after windows loads i'd see my desktop background for a second, then the monitor would shut off. I knew at this time that it had to be the drivers. i uninstalled everything to do with my Nvidia drivers, including the Performance software for overclocking, ran Driver cleaner Pro and reinstalled 180.48 and have been fine now untill last night.

Im sure this is not a heat issue with my Graphics card as i was running GPUZ to monitor gpu heat after the first time it happened last night. My Gpu temps were around 38c idle and 55c max under gaming load.

Hi I'm not sure if this post is in the right place so sorry if it isn't.

When I play a game, any game like the sims3, left4dead or crysis, the screen will go blank and display the words "no input signal" and then "monitor going to sleep" and then the screen will go blank. I can't do anything with the pc after this point even though the tower is still on, I have to restart it by holding in the power button. I have tried pressing the windows button and esc and all that but nothing happens.
The amount of time i can play a game before it turns off is different each time, i can play for a few hours or a few minutes. Also it only happens when I'm playing a video game.

I don't know what info is needed so ill just put bits here, i used sisoftware sandra to get this info.

Type : Dual-Core
Integrated Data Cache : 2x 32kB, Synchronous, Write-Thru, 8-way, 64 byte line size

If there is any info you need that isn't here just let me know because this is a problem i would love to fix. Thanks

A:No input signal. Monitor going to sleep. Only when gaming.

Need to know
what brand your computer is (if its branded),
what graphics card is it using, and if you can get it,
what temperatures everything is running at when you're doing absolutely nothing with the comp, and
what temperatures everything is running at when you're running your games (stressed system).

For temperature info, you'll need to download something like Everest.

Hi guys, i've had an issue since yesterday. My missus has downgraded me from the 46"

So i went out and purchased a second hand 15.5" lg monitor and a new vga cable, as before i was running via hdmi lead.. So everything was going fine untill i tried to play bf3, when i click on the bf3.exe my monitor enters sleep mode??

The game music can still be herd, and the pc seems responsive as my keyboard is still lit up and cap locks, numlock still responsive. Only way out is to hard reset.

I've gone inside the pc and removed the little dust that was there
Ive made sure pc is set in high performance mode
Made sure hibernation and sleep is off
Made sure vga cable is fixed
Checked driver for updates
Ran cc cleaner to insure no unwanted registary causing issues
Ran gpuZ to check temps (idle 32, gaming 57)
Tried unclocking my card
Tried raising fan speed manual to 100%

Yet it still happens, i've never had this issue before i got the monitor yesterday, and i know the gpu is not overheating, so do you think the monitor itself is the issue?

Tested games:
Working on highest settings:
-Black ops2
-Mw3
-Transformers foc
-Borderlands2
-Skyrim
-DayZ (high not ultra)
-The warZ
-Portal 2

Games that shut down monitor:
-Crysis 2
-Resident evil: operation racoon city
-bf3

The games that fail put the monitor into sleep mode as soon as the .exe is clicked.

I have HP Desktop Tower Pavilion with windows 10, I had two HP S2031 monitors in dual mode, worked fine. One of them died, I got a good deal on a larger HP 27er monitor.  I hooked it up, they were both working fine ... it was using a default monitor
setting ... and then yesterday the computer downloaded some updates, and in doing so, it downloaded the driver for the HP 27er and installed.  The next thing that happens is the older HP S2031 starts to go dark ... like it is going into sleep mode, and
then it is totally black.  On reboot, it starts up with both monitors working, but within seconds of reboot the HP S2031 goes black again. The HP S2031's buttons do nothing, other than the power button, which turns it off and on, but that is it.
I have done all troubleshooting, I did not even have them set up to sleep, all settings are at NEVER.  In coming here, I have done all the fixes I can find for similar  that are posted for similar issues, the Windows Key + W... nothing.
The create new power plan ... nothing.  the device manger>display adapters>disable then enable ... nothing.  and lastly Start>Control Panel>System>Device Manager>display adapter>driver tap>update ... still nothing.  HOW
DO I GET THE HP S2031 MONITOR TO NOT BE IN SLEEP AND HAVE BLACK SCREEN.  I can not figure this out and am not finding any fix.

Sorry for the long text, I'm trying to send as much information i have.

Hello forums!
A few years ago i built a new gaming pc because i wanted to be able to play high quality games. But since day 1 i've had nothing but problems. Whenever i play one of my high quality games such as "Assassins Creed, Tomb Raider, Battlefield 3 or Primal Carnage" the monitor goes completely blank showing a "no signal to monitor" sign after gaming for between 5 minutes to up to 2-3 hours. The monitor sometimes also shows different color stripes either for examples: orange, pink or grey. The sound of my friends on skype usually keeps going for about 20 seconds before going silent, the sound of the game shuts off instantly or goes in a loop or starts with a loud buzzing sound. The fans and the LED's on my pc are still going but i can't control anything on the pc making me have to force restart my pc on the power button.
I've been on this forum before talking to this guy who is helping me but he's been quite busy lately so i need some extra help.
I've updated all drivers to latest, i never overheat, the GPU does not go over 51C when gaming and CPU never goes over 51C either.
I've upgraded my 650W powersupply to a 850W power supply and is one of the highest rated best performance power supplies you can find.
I tried to RMA my graphics card but they found nothing wrong with it and sent it back.
I bought two new sticks of RAM 4GB each, still... Read more

Hello,
I have been looking for verification that if I buy the Dell 24 Gaming Monitor – S2417DG and attach it to my Inspiron 15 Gaming 7567 HDMI that I will get full 2560x1440 resolution refresh rate 165 Hz with 1ms response as the Monitor specs are listed.
I can find no information that the HDMI will pass this level of output.
I have talked to Dell tech support and they do say that the HDMI port is connected directly to the  NVIDIA  GeForce GTX 1050T i with 4GB GDDR5 but I also have seen information that HDMI will not support this.
So I am looking for verification on this configuration being compatible/able to output the full capabilities of the video card to the monitor via the on board HDMI output?

A:Inspiron 15 Gaming 7567 HDMI Specs/Does HDMI out support full bandwidth for G-SYNC Dell Gaming Monitor – S2417DG

First of all, G-Sync as far as I know requires DisplayPort and will not run on HDMI.  Even if it does, I don't think even HDMI 2.0 has enough bandwidth for 1440p @ 165 Hz.  And even if it does though, all of the Dell systems I've seen have only had HDMI 1.4, which is only enough for 1440p @ 60 Hz.  But even if all of that isn't a problem, does the Inspiron 7567 have ONLY a GeForce GPU, or does it have an Intel GPU plus a GeForce GPU?  If it's the latter, G-Sync will definitely not work because in almost all systems that have both GPUs, only the Intel GPU is directly wired to the display outputs.  If your system has ONLY the GeForce GPU, then G-Sync should work in theory, but again you may have the bandwidth problems I mentioned above.

Whenever my computer recovers from sleep mode, or when the screensaver comes on and I wake it up, I find that all my apps are now on my main monitor.

Example: Google Chrome and Skype on Monitor 1.
Microsoft Word and MSI Afterburner on Monitor 2.

-computer sleeps/ screen saver turns on-
-I wake the computer up-

Google Chrome, Skype, Microsoft Word, and MSI Afterburner are on Monitor 1.
Nothing on Monitor 2.

Is it possible to fix this?

Specs
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Using DisplayFusion Pro v5.0.1 to extend my taskbar to the second monitor.

GPU: r9 290
CPU: i5 4670k @ 4.2 Ghz
Mobo: ASUS z87 sabertooth TUF series
PSU: Corsair TX-CMPSU 650W

A:After dual monitor sleep recovery, all apps shift to one monitor

I've had dual monitors for years now and have never had this problem. But I also have no screen saver.

If you put your system to sleep why would you want a screen saver? All that does is keep the system active and running - which is the opposite of what sleep does.

Remove the scree saver and see what happens.

Hi all,

WinXP Prof
DX 9.0
Geforce4 Ti4200 128Mb(Driver 4.1.0.9, 11/18/2002)
Dell 17" monitor, little old...

First, the problem in the subject, then something else.

Ok, within the last week, if I play a full screen game, any game, my computer will seem to go into sleep mode after 1-2 minutes. The monitor powers down, the sound goes off, but the comp doesn't turn off completely. It will stay running fine all day in windows, but as soon as I fire up a game... poof.

So far, I've upgraded from dx 8.1 to 9.0, and updated my video card drivers to the latest version.

My other problem is that I cannot run my processor at full speed. If I turn it up to full, and again, try to play a game, my computer will lock. There will be a split second of static in the sound, and the screen is just froze.

I don't know if there's a connection, but does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks in advance.

The title basically says it. I'd like to get a monitor that works as a monitor with my Macbook Pro (I'll just get a HDMI connector) for general computer use, but one that is also suitable for gaming with PS3/PS4 with a low input lag as I like my competitive gaming, but also doubles as a TV, so has a tv/freeview tuner installed too.

Wasn't sure where to put this topic so went for random, anyone out there have any advice?

This is actually a continuation of a previous thread, linked here: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...ing-games.htmlAfter a while i just gave up on it and decided to live with the crashing. This new crop of problems, however, has raised my ire.

Most frequently problems occur when gaming. In some cases the screen will freeze, and the system will lock up. Other games(TF2), however, cause the screen to either scramble such that the display shows multiple angles cut together. There's often also an audible screech of static accompanying this disruption. After I close the program, other programs begin crashing (mumble, chrome,) and almost nothing will open properly.

The computer also fails to come out of sleep mode correctly. After entering sleep mode, I can only get the display to come out of it if I hit the restart button. At which point, it goes through the start up (BIOS splash screen and all) but will display my previously open programs. Alternatively, hitting the restart button causes it to restart and crash.

I have tested the ram sticks both separately and together. In both cases, it has gone through 3 passes of the tests. I used prime95 to test the cpu, cleaned the heatsink after the temps were high, performed the prime test again, and observed reasonable temps. The video card that was in the system previously was removed and replaced with a 7850. Really at this point, I'm thinking its the mobo I installed, but I have no real expertise. Any help is appreciate... Read more

Your crashes primarily indicate hard disk problems. This could mean hard disk corruption, bad sectors, a failing hard disk, Windows files or registry corruption, viruses, or memory problems. If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Run Disk Check with both boxes checked for all HDDs and with Automatically fix file system errors checked for all SSDs. Post back your logs for the checks after finding them using Check Disk (chkdsk) - Read Event Viewer Log (you may need to search for wininit instead of chkdsk).
For any drives that do not give the message:

Just purchased a Mitsubushi 17" LCD monitor Model NXM76LCD. It has both analog and DVI input capability. My previous experienece with LCD monitors and games was very disappointing and I ended up taking them back. This Mitsubiishi unit works as good or better than my old Trinitron 19" CRT monitor. So far I've run M$ Combat Flight Sim (1,2 & 3) Descent 2 & 3 and M$ Midtown Madness. Video quaility is excellent. Native resolution is 1280 X 1024. Running it on and older Dell XPS R400, P2, 384mb SDRAM with an ATI Radeon 64mb AGP graphics card. OS is Win98SE. Tomorrow I'm going to buy a DVI cable (it didn't come with one) and see if that makes any difference.

Just wondered if any one else has tried this one out. Would welcome comments/questions.

Regards - Ray

Thinking about getting a 120hz monitor to replace my current 60hz monitor, I have the money to pay for it;

Just need to know if it's worth it and if it even makes that much of a difference.

Thanks

Im buying this Dell UltraSharp 2209WA 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor

Its my first lcd , my lovely superbright diamondtron mitsubishi has finally bitten the dust

Ive done a bit of research and this is the monitor for me

problem is i know lcd's display best at their native resolution and for most things ill be running at at 1680x1050 , however with my current rig (and my upgrade being pushed back due to needing a new monitor) ill struggle to game at this res

so will it look/perform ok at 1280x1024 ingame? until i upgrade?

Hi archie

I use the Samsung 226BW which is a 1680x1050 monitor. Any game i play that my graphics card cant handle at 1680x1050 i lower the res of that game to 1280x800 in the games menu.

As 1280 is pretty close to 75% of 1680 and 800 is pretty close to 75% of 1050 its the settings i use for games like Crysis Warhead etc. You'll see when you get the monitor what is best but a setting of 1280x1024 will give you 76% and 97% of your native resulution and will make the image appear distorted

I'm curious if the monitor in the link below is bad for gaming? I really don't know anything about monitor specs, so could someone please give me an idea on the quality of this monitor? I'm sure it's a good monitor, I'm just a little worried about the refresh rates of flat-screen monitors since I play online games a lot.

24 inch 1920x1080 is now the default monitor. No point going smaller. They cost <$200.

Other options include:
- Taking a risk and spending ~$300 on a 2560x1440 27 incher from eBay. Techspot has it on Xmas Shopping List.
- Spending a little more and getting either a 27inch 1080p monitor, or a productivity-oriented 1920x1200 monitor.
- Check out Dell website for more sizes and resolutions. You're gonna be paying for it, though.

Hi folks, my monitor blew up and I was looking at LCD monitors. I can't afford most of them, but was wondering about a couple that were in my price range. Is 21ms acceptable response time for gaming? This is the one I was checking out: http://www.directron.com/v293.html

Also found Acer one with 20ms in the same price range:

Otherwise, I guess I'll stick with CRT for now.

Thanks.

lcd

Really it's confusing, some people complain of 8ms and 12ms lcds ghosting, while other people get 25ms lcds that they say have no ghosting at all. I think it has more to do with the quality of the lcd.

EDIT: If it's okay to be widescree: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824116095
If you want non-ws: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009137
You can actually ger a good (by looking at the numbers) 22" monitor under 200 (after rebates): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236043 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236028

Hi, some games only display in 1024x768 minimum, but their text and graphics look so small on my 17" monitor that I get eyestrain and have got to get a bigger monitor.
I think LCD's have replaced CRT's nowadays, so I think a 22" LCD would be fine, but shall I get a square screen one or a widescreen?
I only want it for playing games and flight simulations, nothing else.
Wouldn't a widescreen stretch the picure out and make it look funny?
What sort do you all use?
Thanks

Hey all,
I'm moving into a cramped apartment with 3 other people next year and won't be able to make room for my behemoth of a CRT monitor. (plus its a pain to move it around)

So, I'm planning on getting a LCD monitor to replace it, strictly for gaming purposes, and was wondering what you guys could recommend! I really have no idea where to start.

My gaming rig is top-notch and I'm willing to spend around $500 for the monitor. Oh, and I prefer quality over size.
Any comments, suggestions, and recommendations welcome!

Hi,

I am looking to upgrade my monitor for playing games like Crysis or COD- I currently have this;

http://www.ciao.co.uk/Sony_SDM_E96D__6495720

....but the colours look a bit flat compared to my 42" LCD TV and the response rate isn't great.

I am ideally looking for a widescreen 20" monitor for under 150. What brands should I look out for, which ones should I avoid?

Any suggestions/recommendations welcome!!

Cheers

Going to University so need a flat screen, CRT is simply too bulky for the box-room they call student housing .

I'm looking for a new LCD monitor that will not ghost or blur in fast moving games. I was hoping to get one with a 12ms response time but it seems they don't make 15 inch models with this (or not that i can find). So I'll be happy with 16ms as long as it is a good make. I'm looking at 15 as apposed to 17 inch models simply because for the price I probably cannot afford a good 17 inch one, whereas I can buy a really good 15 inch model that will look lovely for my games.

I live in England (UK) and am looking to spend hopefully around 250.

Any suggestions?
