Q: Suitable replacement Ram for Alienware Aurora r4 with a X58 mother board

One of my 2 Gb Corsair Ram sticks has stopped working so looking to replace all the others . At the moment I have 6 x 2 Gb Sticks = 12 Gb .
Can I use 2 Corsair Vengeance 8Gb sticks , As I am not sure if the X58 mother board will support just 2 sticks or do I have to replace and fit 6 x 2 Gbs sticks the same as was fitted .
At the moment I have 6 x Corsair Ram Sticks there specs are 2048 Mb 1866 MHz 7-8-7-20 1.65v ver2.1 DDR 3

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an Alienware Aurora R4 with the latest bios (11). After installing a new ASUS GTX970 videocard the videocard shows a clear light, however the computer will not start. It appears that the power supply is not sending any power to the machine. When the video card is removed and the original card, a GTX 660 is reinstalled the computer boots up normally. This problem is present in both R4s that I own. To determine if the card was bad, I next used a GTX 1060 with the same results. Any help in resolving this power up issue would greatly appreciated.

Hi all, I am currently trying to fix a desktop computer for a friend. Computer doesn't boot any longer and I have tried everything I can imagine to resolve the problem without any progress.
Computer simply does not boot. No response at all when clicking the power button. I have tried pushing the power test button on the PSU but there were no response. I tried connecting the power pins on the FRONT_PANEL and unplugged the battery for a couple of minutes. If anyone have alternative solutions, feel free to share them.
This have lead to the assumption that the PSU is malfunctioned. I don't have a spare PSU to test with, so I would like to buy a replacement PSU, but I can't figure out where to buy a PSU that fits this machine. I would therefore like to ask you guys, if you could help me out on this one.
From what I can read online I believe I am in need of a 850w PSU but I am not certain about this. The machine is the following: www.dell.com/.../diagnose

Last night I tried to replace the mother board on my Dell Inspiron 5000e laptop. I bought the replacement part from an Ebay store, and it is still under warranty (90 days). After taking apart my entire laptop and putting the whole thing back together--a job that took my friend and I three hours--we plugged it in for the moment of truth. The battery light came on, so far so good. Then we hit the power button and...nothing happened. Well almost nothing. The machine appeared to turn on. All three lights on the the bottom of the LCD went on, but that's it. The fan didn't start, the monitor didn't start. The hard drive light was on but didn't appear to be reading at all. (i.e. no blinking or noise.) I'm quite perplexed. Everything appeared to go back together perfectly with the possible exception of the diskette drive cable clip, which we weren't exactly sure whether to put back in over, under, or through the disk drive data cable. We eventually put it through. For instructions and pictures of the process, check out link:

Everything else seemed to go back together seemlessly. We were very careful with screws and put all the right sizes back into their correct places. What could be causing this? Have I received a defective part? Are there any other explanations? I suppose a possible explanation is that the processor and/or video board are not quite connected correctly, but they seemed t... A local computer repair shop is the best bet, but for a computer that old, it will probably cost more than it is worth.  Best option is to salvage the data from the hard drive onto a working PC.  Easiest way to do that is to remove the hard drive from the old Pavilion A6400 and connect it to a working PC.  If it is just to retrieve the data, an adapter similar to this will work nicelyhttps://www.amazon.com/AGPtek-Drive-Adapter-Converter-External/dp/B00BIE996S/ref=pd_sim_147_2?_encod...

I don't think the model will matter, however, mine is a Pavilion Slimline s5510f. With thanks from this forum, I have determined that I need to replace my mother board.  I have found HP support documentation on how to replace the mother board, but that leaves the question as to whether I have to do any type of programming of the new mother board or is the MB more or less a plug and play? Thanks for any help.

Hi, Actually you can't do anything with motherboard (only updating BIOS which is still in the hands of vendors). What you see is what you get or using your terms: it is a plug-and-play part. Regards.

CMOS should only reset if there is something wrong, or if a battery is bad.

Replacing it is just as you said - unplug power, take out the old one, put in the new one.

A:Emachine T3092 Mother Board Replacement

You will most likely end up replacing everything except the case. Any ATX or mini-ATX board should fit. How many PCI slots do you have now? 3? The power supply should be changed while your at it... Just deside what processor and memory you want to use, and select a motherboard that will run it.

Here is the Manual: Service Manual There are 4 different AMD motherboard depending on if you have the A8 processor or the A6 and Windows Standard or Pro. Get the same Windows version as you have or you will have to buy another copy of Windows. Your hard drive installation of Windows will not activate unless you install a motherboard set up for the same OS version. Post back if you need a more detailed explanation. Yours is a CTO laptop so we cannot just look up your original factory specs. You can interchange the A6 and A8 version of the motherboard with the caveat stated above. The Manual shows the "how-to" on replacement. Assuming you have the A8 and Windows Standard this is the part number: 769075-501 This is it on US amazon.com for $109 which is a pretty fair price: https://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-Convertible-Motherboard-769075-501/dp/B0118AZL1S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UT... Post back with any more questions.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi there. I'm here on behalf of one of my good friends who purchased an Alienware desktop from Dell. He's owned it for almost four months now and he's been having trouble with it for the last month or so. I can't determine what's causing it myself and I don't want to take any drastic measures (like reformatting). Because of this, I don't really know where I should make this post, so sorry if it's in the wrong section.Basically, when he plays games like World of Warcraft, the visuals are rendered all messed up. Flickering, stretched, or missing geometry; the whole nine yards. Alt-tabbing also tends to make the game crash (and worse, which I'll explain below). Basically, the game performs perfectly, but it's all messed up looking and alt-tabbing is unstable.I've tried uninstalling the display drivers that came with the computer and installing the latest version (and yes I made sure I chose the correct model on Nvidia's website). I also made sure his operating system was up to date. None of that fixed it, and according to him it got somewhat worse after I updated his display drivers.But anyway, the worst part of all of this is that he's been forced to do a system restore twice within a couple of days. According to him, on both occasions, he alt-tabbed out of World of Warcraft and when he tried to alt-tab back in, the screen would go black and his monitor would say "Entering Power Save Mode" and basically it doesn'... I have tried to find solutions for this myself online but haven't succeeded.

I recently downloaded a game from steam (Fallen Earth) on my aurora r1 and I was able to play for about 6-12 hours with no issue then for no reason my computer froze keyboard and mouse was unresponsive, the sound looped, the game was froze on the monitor and i was unable to soft boot, i had to hold the power button down to shut it down.
I turned it back on after a bit, thinking it over heated i turned down the graphics on the game, and same freeze with 30 min to and hour of play time. shut it down again and started it back up this time it didnt pass its POST (power on self test) causing it to beep 4 times for the possible problem of a Ram read/write failure. after about 5 minutes it started like normal. yet it froze again.
Now its starting to freeze at the desktop level, and i dont know what to do. (I haven't changed a single thing with this computer and i treat it like my baby regular virus scans every other week and disk cleans)

Looking around the Alienware website I found this very strange:

The Area 51 base model starts at 800Euros more than the Aurora but seems to have a far poorer selection of processors, all i7, but no 2600. Of course you can get the 980 or 990x but that is an additional 800E! Otherwise the 960 (3.4 Ghz turbo) is the best option.
Whereas the Aurora desktop has the option of 2600 overclocked to 3.9 Ghz which is FAR cheaper than the above processors in the Area 51.

Of course the Area 51 has the infinitely better Core 2 Quads vs the Aurora Phenoms.
So which is ultimately better for gaming performance?? And why don't they have 2600 in the Area 51???

I just purchased an Alienware Aurora R5, and I am new to computers. I realized that there is an Idle fan on the right panel of the Aurora, is that supposed to be working? Also if someone could tell me what my thermals should look like too, that'd be awesome. I noticed my ambient sensors get up to 65 C when i'm gaming on a not so stressful game, and the fans will speed up, then slow down somewhat constantly (during my gaming experience).

Also My Alienware Aurora did not come with a Cd drive, although every single picture indicated one on dell.com, and I couldn't see an option as to where to add on in a customization.

As a secondary question. When I get my new RAM in. Inside my PC there are two slots that are white and two that are black. The two samsung sticks that came with it are in the white slots. Should the new two go in the black? Or does that matter?

Can either or both move to Windows 10.x?
What is significantly different between Win 8.1.x Pro and Win 10 Pro?

Thanks gurus!

First there is a free upgrade from Windows 7 OEM to Windows 10 Retail so there is absolutely zero point in purchasing a Windows 8.1 Retail license...
Windows 10 TH2 is essentially a fixed version of Windows 8.1 where Metro Apps work correctly as "Windows".
Almost any system shipped with Windows 7 can run Windows 10. As they are 2009 and 2011 models respectively Dell did not provide updated drivers for Windows 8.x or Windows 10 because they are all out of warranty. All the drivers should be inbuilt into Windows 10 TH2 or automatically obtained via Windows Update. Its advised to update your BIOS to the latest revision before proceeding.
A Clean Installation also in general performs better. See here for details:
Both systems likely have a legacy (non-UEFI) BIOS so take that into account when making the Bootable USB. Although you may want to look at the BIOS settings for the 2011 model to see if there is UEFI support.

A:SLI problems on Alienware m9700 Aurora

Either one of the video cards is bad, or you motherboard may be defective as far as running in the SLI mode is concerned. Have you tried swapping the video cards to see if it is one card or one of the SLI motherboard sockets?

I think I have done everything that I can to solve the issue but still not working. Below is description of the problem and what I have done. Thanks in advance for your advise.
- I was using a Logitech webcam as microphone (USB plugged) and it works fine;
- I recently bough 2 new microphones (jack plugged), they are the same, the one my wife uses works fine, but mine has very low volume; we got exactly same PC, same drivers etc.
- the low volume thing is, when I run 'configure', and read the text as requested, the bar goes only a little more than the yellow zone;
- volume setting is 100%, no boost option (realtek options not loaded and I don't know why);
- I tested it on Team Speak (I will test on other communication software tonight);
- I tried re-install different drivers;
- I tried my wife's MIC on my PC;
- I will try my MIC on her PC tonight;
- I cannot find Realtek manager in Control panel;
- If I install Realtek latest driver, alienware audio is not working, and the volume is still very low;
- I will buy another USB microphone and it will be delivered early next month;

That is pretty much everything. Please let me know if you gents have any idea / suggestion. Having no clue of the problem is frustrating to me!

Running into an issue upgrading my system from 4x2Gb uDIMMS (2GB 1Rx8 PC2-12800U) that came with my system to a 4x8Gb kit. I purchased the Patriot Viper kit off of Amazon, and installed it today. The system will not boot when only the Patriot memory is installed (no beeps, just turns on with a blank screen), but it will boot with an old dimm installed in slot 1, and slots 2-4 populated with the patriot dimms.
Here's the info on the DIMMs that I purchased:
Patriot Viper III Extreme Performance 32 GB 1600MHz (PC3 12800) DDR3 Memory Kit PV332G160C9QKBL

PC3-12800 (1600MHz)
Intel 6, 7 and 8 series
XMP 1.3 Certified

I've done a few searches, but most people I've seen with issues were installing memory with a higher clockrate. The motherboard model is 07jnh0 rev a00, and BIOS version is A11. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi, my name is Kelvyn and I have an Alienware Aurora R3 that normaly works perfectly. But recently, I wasn't able to start it.

I pressed the power button to turn it on and saw that it didn't want to show anything on my screen. The lights turn white when I start it, but then nothing else happens. It also makes some bipping sound. 2 bips every second and I don't know how to fix it.

If anyone could help me that would great.

A:My Alienware Aurora R3 doesn't start

These codes seem to indicate either a problem with the RAM or the motherboard itself. For initial diagnostics, I would recommend opening the case, reseating all the DIMMs, and then testing. If you still get the error code, remove all the DIMMs and then place one back in the motherboard. Turn it on and re-test. Go through each DIMM like that and then see if the PC posts. If it'll work with some but not all, chances are you have a faulty DIMM.

I just brought a new Alienware Aurora S6 computer. I'm not satisfied with the sound on-board and would like to install a new soundcard, the Asus Essence STX II 7.1 soundcard. The soundcard need power through a Molex power connection. I have tried to install the soundcard, but I cannot find any Molex power connections inside the computer. From can I get the power and do I need a special internal powercable?

TLDR * Has my new PSU caused coil whine in my GPU?

My 8 month old computer developed a strange clicking noise coming from the PSU, dell insured me that my PSU was faulty and so they replaced it with a new one.
With the replacement PSU, the initial noise disappeared. However, I am now getting a loud high pitched screech when playing games, it sounds to me like "coil whine".
I have been trying to determine whether the coil whine is coming from the PSU or GPU, as they are positioned very close together. I never had this coil whine BEFORE my PSU was replaced. Only afterwards.
Could it be that the new PSU is effecting and potentially damaging my GPU with this coil whine, or is the new PSU the culprit.
I specifically experience this noise only when playing overwatch, i have tested with BF1 and it runs silently, which to me seems more graphically demanding. I have not tested with other games.
I will post my spec below for further clarification. Thanks for reading, any help or response is greatly appreciated.

Ok,so as with all of the older Alienware PC?s the system isn?t very found of windows 10. Anyway,we have done really well troubleshooting our issues and are still very pleased......until recently. Ran complete scan,showed several needed downloads and three urgent downloads. Two of which had to do with the Alienware Control Center. Followed the instructions correctly,or so I thought. It made changes to Bios and installed an older version. Pretty sure the prep stalled factory version. Now only the mouse will light up. Keyboards dead monitor says no signal but all of the usb drives work fine. Couldn?t reinstall with a usb flash drive bc it only recognizes the mouse,certainly can?t get into Bios to switch back. It has been running 10 pro for a while now. We?ve reset the jumpers and tried pretty much everything we?ve come across to troubleshoot this crap. Making an authentic windows 10 CDin hopes it?ll fix the issues but I?m kind of worried the cd drive won?t run either. Can?t get into bios without the keyboard ughhhh. Factory reinstall is out because it was preinstalled and the key won?t work. Unfortunately, we don?t own the windows that we paid for with the PC. Recently found that out. It?s a great pc. Better than the current crap at WallyWorld anyway. Lol
Wish I didn?t have to ask for help,maybe a Mac next? Haha Thank you in advance for any ideas,I?m tapped out.

I have a several year old Aurora R1.  I recently pulled it out of storage and am trying to get it back up and running.  When it was last shut down and stored it was working fine.  Now that it's out of storage and running again I can't get the OS to boot.  I got it booted once, and logged into windows fine.  Tried doing some Windows Updates but they failed as well.  Went to reboot and now all I get is a black screen after the Alienware splash and post beep.  I have never run the machine on OC, have upgraded the Ram, HDD, and graphics card.  Ram was upgraded to 24GB Corsair Dominator, HDD is a Sandisk Extreme 240gb, and Graphics is a GTX 770 classified.  The other odd thing I noticed is that the RAM as it displays in the bios somehow lost 8gb.  I swapped the sticks around and now it is seeing all 24 again.  I'm trying to decide if it's the RAM or the MB at this point.  I've tried dropping the ram down to a single stick on bank 1 (4gb), with different sticks to ensure I'm not using a bad stick, but still no luck.  Running Bios version A11.
Also, i've tried swapping the HDD around on different channels and changing the boot sequence to match.  It won't even boot from a thumb drive that is visible in the boot options list.  I must admit that my trouble shooting skills on hardware have gone downhill lately, so i'm turning to you guys for any thoughts.  Oh, the O...
