Q: Solved: A couple of Xbox live problems-Halo 2 Problems

Just now getting Xbox Live for my Xbox (I know so late, better late than never), and have got a couple of problems. I bought the 12 month free subscription (includes game and headset). I got all the way to joining a game, but it keeps telling me no matter which I try that I don't have a certain map or something. I had already went and downloaded all the content avaible (3 map packs were downloaded by me). What else can I do, if I have already downloaded those three. I can even see those 3 map packs downloaded on my xbox harddrive if I explore the dashboard.

Finally, those map packs were free weren't they? Sorry if these have been asked before, couldn't find them searching the forums. Thanks as always to one of the best forums around!

Edit: I did put my actual birth date in when registering, and it said something about my parents having to confirm something, but nothing has been sent (I put my email down). Also when trying to login to Xbox live forums it said I wasn't old enough to play on Xbox Live, which is weird because it won't even let me get into the forums for help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Right, so as the title says, I'm having difficulties updating Windows Live.

So I start halo 2, and the first message I get is this:
"Update required:
An update for this game is available from Live. If you decline this update, you will be signed out of Live. Do you wish to apply the update now?

Yes, update now
No, don't update"
So I choose "Yes, update now".

Next it flashes a screen so fast I can't see what it says. I can only catch a glimps of a progress bar.
The next screen gives me the following error:
"Update failed.
Can't download the update. Make sure that you are connected to the internet. If the problem persists, go to www.gamesforwindows.com/support.

Continue"

So I head over to that site, and click on "Get Games for Windows LIVE Support & Updates here"
The very first link under "Quick help" is "Error message "can't download the update" [KB 937379]" Hm. Sounds like my problem. So I click on that.

They give me three options to try, all have failed. Surprise surprise.

The last option seems to be the most hopeful. I successfully manually downloaded and installed the update, but when I go back to Halo 2, I get the same thing all over again.

After looking to where I could email/phone a Microsoft employee on the subject, they asked for $35. No offense to Microsoft, but I'm not going to pay more money for you to fix your own problem.

Any help here? I'll att... Read more

Hi guys I have just been reading up on a post that was on here a while ago regarding someone not being able to connect to Xbox Live with his new Belkin N+ router now i have a Belkin N router and have had similar problems with it either not connecting or not being able to join mates games/parties and after a lot of time with Xbox and Belkin (neither knew the problem) i found out after a lot of messing about what to do and i hope to be of services to others by posting this.

First of all you will need to be able to login to your router setup page online...the normal ip address for belkin is 192.168.2.1 sometimes this can be different and you can find out how to check your ip address on youtube...oh and each step that you do please Apply changes before moving on as the router cants update all the changes in one go

Once logged into your router there are a few things we need to do... First is to look on the left hand side of the screen and locate the "firewall" link once the page has loaded you will want to Enable the firewall.

Next you will need to turn on you xbox and go to System settings, network settings then configure network to find out what IP Adress your xbox is on...I set mine up manually so the ip address for my xbox will never change ... again can see how to do this on youtube... write down or keep a mental note of this address YOU WILL NEED THIS.

Next open the "virtual servers" which is under the firewall link this is where we are going to open... Read more

I have set up my new router, all was fine until a few hours ago. I keep getting disconnected from Xbox LIVE, I can reconnect easily but whenever I seem to match-make online I get disconnected 80% of the time. I have a Belkin Wireless N Router and 10mpbs High Speed Inernet/Modem. I have WFi secuity to prevent unwanted access (thiefs lol) so its protected via password. All Firmware is up to date and Xbox themselfs confirmed the software/hardware is working and compatible. If anyone needs any other info let me know and I'll get it in lol. So any ideas why I keep getting disconnected when all I want is to have a few hours peace and game with friends after a long hard days work lol ?

Any info and help appreciated.

Hey everyone, got a problem with connecting to Xbox Live. First off, let me say this happens from time-to-time, then it works again.

Anyways I live in a dorm with 1 Ethernet port, so I decided to buy a Linksys 5 port workgroup switch so I can use my laptop and xbox 360 at the same time. It worked great initially.

Problem is that my xbox live always picks random times to not work. It doesn't even make it past the 'Network' stage, indicating it doesn't receive the IP address. I had the settings on Automatic (didn't work), ran an ipconfig, and manually put the ip address into my xbox. It gave me another message, something 'another device is already using this ip address'.

It has come back on eventually, but I want to know what causes it to stop working for a few days. It's an inconvenience

Also, apparently my college has a problem letting my xbox join a party/game with my brother back in my hometown (3 hrs away). That sucks too.

I want to connect Xbox Live through my PC using ICS. I kept getting an error saying cable not connected even though it is!
Here is the set up -
Dell 4600 3ghz P4, 1000ram 120gb h/d
BT voyger 105 broadband modem at 2mb - This connects to the PC via a USB.
Ethernet crossover cable out of the PC networking socket to the Xbox.
I set the Broadband connection to shared. (followed instructions form the xbox live site)
The LAN icon in the networking window still says network cable disconnected. (it is DEFINITELY connected!)
What I know -
That the Xbox and Crossover Ethernet cable works! I use this at a friends house and it works directly in his modem or through a router.
I tried disabling and then enabling the LAN in the networking window. When re-Enabled it flashes up enabled/connected and then 1 second later goes back to network cable disconnected.
The Internet connection states "shared" in the networking window so I'm pretty sure i set it up right.
The xbox requires a crossover cable i know this for sure from xbox website. I have also tried with a non crossover cable just in case but that still didnt work.
I have tried every conbination of xbox on/off before/after the pc/modem.
I have searched the ISP/Xbox/microsoft websites as well as looked on xboxsolution but in vain.
Solution -
Er thats where you come in!
I know I can solve this by spending 50notes on a new modem/router but as my PC should be able to do this ICS thing I dont see why i should spend more mon... Read more

I've been trying to connect to Xbox live for the past two days, and I keep getting this error:

No DNS server addresses were received from the DHCP or PPPoE server. Enter the DNS Server(s) provided by your ISP in the Network Settings menu.

Im using comcast, and it has been working fine up until now without a manually entered DNS server in the settings. Everything in my XBL settings is set to connect automatically (optain ip automatically, configure dns automatically), and it has worked for years like this.

I connect through a wireless game adaptor which connects wirelessly downstairs to our main linksys router. It's the same setup which I've been using for years yet something seems to be the problem...

If anyone has any idea, or knows how to configure the DNS settings manually for a Comcast connection, I would greatly appriciate your help.

Try and test the connection between your router and xbox. If you have other wireless kit (like a laptop or something) try and use it in the same area the xbox is situated. Or try and bring the Xbox closer to the router to see if it improves. Failing that talk to your colleges IT Dept if you are using the college network. keep us posted and if i think of anything else i will give you a shout.

hello, I just bought a year of xbox live for $50.00 and I'm a little peeved as it doesn't seem to know the internet connection and I'm afraid my "high speed" internet might be too slow for it. I'm stationed overseas and we have crappy cable service, they tell us we connect at a meg but whener I'm downloading anything I'm usually lucky to be getting 20kb/s does this make my cable internet to slow for xbox? I'm not using a router, I have the modem connected to the computer via USB port and I used the extra lan line port to hook up the xbox, is this the problem, do i need a router? I'm using a LAN/Ethernet cable, should I specifically look for a cable marked ethernet cable, will a crossover work? Any answers or advice anyone can give on this would be much appreciated

My problem concerns xbox live as well as computer connectivity. It seems that Constantly my connection is just very bad. I will be playing Full Tilt poker, and it takes 20 seconds to reconnect about every 3 minutes. When i get on my Xbox 360 elite, Halo 3, I will connect to a game, start and my connection goes from green to dead red, and sometimes ill even get disconnected from the game. I talked to Xbox live on the phone, they thought it was an MTU problem, so we bumped my mtu from 1364 to 1500, still a bad connection everywhere. I, personally, assum this problem has to do with at least one of the following;
my computer and xbox are connected to a router in my room, and that Ethernet cord from my router to my modem is +100 ft long.
We has a wireless router, one wireless laptop connected, and about 3 computers/2 xbox 360s connected with wires.
ill be online for awhile, so any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Well I just got an Xbox, and I seem to be having some problems getting onto the LIVE network to make an account. I had trouble getting it to recognize the IP address, and ended up manually typing it in. It took the IP address, but now its having problems with the MTU. Here is the info it gave me for why there was a problem.

MTU Test Status: The connection to the Xbox Diagnostic Server timed out. Please retry this test. If it continues to time out, verify your MTU settings. If your console still does not pass thsi test, contact your ISP.

This test confirms that your network has a sufficient Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU). MTU is a setting on your router or gateway that can affect network performance. Xbox LIVE requires a minimum MTU setting of 1364. If your console does not pass this test, you will not be able to sighn in to Xbox LIVE. See your router or gateway instruction manual for information about changing the MTU setting.Click to expand...

On the error status codes here is what it gave me:
W: 0000-0008
X: 0001-8005
Y:0000-0000
Z:0000-0000Click to expand...

I live in a dormitory, so I dont have a router that I can tamper with. I have no idea what im doing when it comes to this, so if anyone knows how to find out what my internet's MTU is, or how to bypass this problem any help would be greatly appreciated. And I dont know much about computers, so laymans terms are appreciated.

A:MTU Problems setting up Xbox LIVE

You should probably talk to your school's computer services department. I know at my school, you had to register your XBox on the network before it would allow you to connect. Each school does things differently though, and they're the only ones who can really change settings, so you should contact them.

I'm not sure if this belongs in this thread, but anyway here goes...
A couple weeks ago i noticed that while playing in multiplayer games like MW3 and Halo Reach my connection would lag and i would occasionally get disconnected completely from Xbox Live. Also when in a party with my friends i would experience a lag over my mic. This was a strange occurrence as i normally have a great connection, I'd say i even had a better connection than most of my friends. BTW my xbox is connected wirelessly to the BELKIN Play N600, which like i said, gave me a very good connection. I began to realize that my connection would be fine for maybe 1-2 minutes then it would shoot down to 1 bar of wifi (normally i have 4, or 3 at the lowest). After experiencing the lagging and disconnections i reset my router as advised. This changed nothing and the problems kept happening, making it extremely frustrating. I noticed that our laptop works fine and i also have an iphone, which also hasn't had these problems. I also know its not a bandwidth problem as ive had the laptop and iphone connected for quite a while.
Please send me suggestions of things that might fix this. I realize that the router might be going bad, but i would like to try anything i can before replacing it. Sorry for babbling.
Thanks for the help!

really weird, he uses the xbox 360 ethernet wire and a bt home hub modem. ive read on some other forums that you need a cross over cable but i know thats not true because i use the cable perfectly fine.

the only thing i can think of is maybe that he is useing xp and my gf is vista? maybe there is something different to do on xp?

A:XBOX LIVE Connection Problems FRUSTRATING!

What you need is a router with a built in switch that does what they call Network Address Translation (NAT). NAT gives you the ability to use multiple devices on a single DSL/Cable/Broadband connection.

Keep an eye open. Now that the 802.11G wireless stuff is big you can find wired stuff for Free After Rebate (FAR) all the time.

I was wondering if anyone out there could help.

Until recently I have been using Xbox live with my wireless network adaptor with no problems at all with my router, except for a rare disconnection or two.

However for the last 3 weeks now, I have been lucky for my Xbox 360 to connect at all. It does still however connect occasionally.

Simply using the ethernet cable is not an option I have.

The problem is this: My Xbox never fails to find my wireless network, but it will not connect despite the correct using the correct WPA2 passkey. I know it is not an adaptor problem because I can connect to an unsecure network in my area, however this has a poor signal. I know it is not a modem security issue because I have turned off my routers WPA2 security and it still won't connect (despite finding it). I'm not really familiar with port-forwarding and DMZ, and not sure if this is even the problem as this is a very recent thing. I have tried changing the transmitting channel but to no avail. Messing about with the modem settings have caused me to do more than a few reinstallations so I am hesitant to continue down this route without help.

Does anyone have any idea what my problem could be and what solutions I might try? Troubleshooting on the net has proved fruitless thus far and I am hesitant to contact Microsoft, who will likely say it is a router problem, and my ISP will likely try refer me to Microsoft.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help

Okay so I've just bought myself an xbox aware of the fact that I didn't need a wireless network adapter to connect to xbox live as I know there is a way it can work using my laptop.

This is not the first time I have set this up so an xbox can connect to live using a wireless laptop. I connected my brothers laptop to his xbox, and my friends to his xbox also not to long ago.

I found out how to do this by watching various tuorials online on how to do it. However, most of the tutorials explain how to do this with a windows XP laptop, which my brother and friend both had. I found a good few tutorials explaining how to do it with a Windows Vista laptop, which I have, and all the tutorials, yet different from the XP tutorials had the exact same instructions, but they are just not working for me.

Apparantly all I have to do is select my local area connection and my wireless network connection and bridge them together and make sure my ethernet cable is plugged into my laptop and into my xbox. Simple right? Well its just not working to me at all, on the local area network icon is says that the network cable is unplugged eventhough both ends of the cable are definetly plugged in, and the cable definetly works as I tested it on my brothers laptop/xbox just now.

Just bridging the two connections seems to simple, surely theres some other settings I have to change? Eventhough all the tutorials I have seen, its all it tell you to do oh and theres nothing wrong with my intern... Read more

Hey. I've posted this on a couple of forums and nobody seems to have any idea how to help so was wondering if anyone here might have some advice!

I recently started 'cleaning up' and old laptop of mine and have encountered a few problems. After I originally deleted a load of programmes to free up space I lost all sound out of my speakers. The only solution I could find was to system restore, so I did and sound came back.
After starting to delete things for the second time I kept getting told that programmes in the list couldn't be found to uninstall, inspite of them still being in the ad/remove programmes list. How do I get rid of them??
Also, in the process the disk defragmenter has disappeared from my PC. I've been on a few forums and tried their suggestions to get it back but nothing's worked.
Finally, an error message comes up every time I turn the laptop on - it says "File "MDATA.DAT" not found". After going on a few forums I've deleted my old virus protection and installed new stuff - after scanning there are no viruses on my PC. I also uninstalled and reinstalled my mouse hardware after hearing that the mouse is the most common cause of this problem. That hasn't worked either.
I'm starting to worry that my efforts to clear out and speed up this laptop has instead totally messed it up so any advice would be gratefully received!

Well this all started when my mother started up her computer and after a few minutes was getting a whole bunch of pop-ups. I've run Adaware and Spybot (the most recent and updated versions) and it's gotten much better but I can't seem to get rid of all of them. After having a major problem with the 'hal.dll' file and my computer not even started, i gave in and finally managed to do a clean install of XP.

- Im still missing the 'SM Bus Controller' I've tryed doing this, but i dont have a clue what im looking for.

- The computer uses a Belkin Dongle to connect to the internet. It connects fine for a few minutes, then disconnects. And then wont find the wireless network unless the computers rebooted.

I think thats it actually.

Thanks in advance,
Adam.

Hi everyone,

This may not be the place to post this but im at a loss and you guys have always helped me and my friends in the past.

I have my xbox 360 and it has suddenly stopped connecting to xbox live and I have no idea why. It just keeps saying MTU failed.

Now I havent changed anything on my network, i have my 2 pcs, my ps3 and my 360 all hooked up and nothing has changed but suddenly I can no longer connect.

I have a belkin N1 router. Can anyone please either let me know how i can change my MTU setting or if they know of any other reason for this problem.

Regards.

Hey all,

I have a Belkin N+ Wireless Modem Router and i've been trying to hook up my Xbox 360 via the wireless adapter but every time I try to connect I receive the "Your network doesn't have a sufficient MTU setting". I know there isn't a problem with the router (it's brand new!) and I have various PC's and laptops connected to it.

I checked the MTU of the router and its at 1432, I tried maxing the MTU and that still didn't work! I also know there isn't a fault with the adapter as it was connected to router before and worked perfectly!

So I don't know if anyone could help me figure this out

Thanks!

Hello,
I didn't know if I should ask this in the Network or Games section, so if its in the wrong place pelase guide me to where I need to go
Some background information:
I have Verizon DSL 1.5 MBPS which (normally) connects at a steady 1787 kbps down and 447 kbps up when checking from the gateway status page...
It is an Actiontec GT704WG Gateway....

Here is my problem:
My Xbox RRoD a couple weeks ago...and so it went away to Microsoft for a month...
Before i shipped my Xbox away I would notice my internet speeds would, on a regular basis, drop to around 1000kbps down but still 447 up...it would stay at those speeds until I reset my router and then it once again connect at 1787 kbps
While my Xbox was away- I noticed my internet connection never dropped below 1787, it remained constantly conencted at those speeds.
Now that my xbox is back I notice that once again the speeds fluctuate until I reset my router which it then reconnects at 1787 kbps until i check it again the next day and it has dropped again.
And also, My xbox will not connect to any of my friends until I reset my router...sometimes even reseting it more than once(i dont get what that would do?)
So i have to reset my router at least once a day in order to simply get in the same party as my friends...no chat, no party, no games until I reset

What is causing this speed fluctuation?
I have the ports forwarded...and my Xbox says my NAT is open and UNpN is on...

Also- my router is now frequently losing connecti... Read more

Today me and my brother bought Halo 2 Vista. We both have new Acer laptops with Vista allready installed. His installation went fine and he's playing it right now. But when i was about to install it it said i needed to install a new driver so i did. (Im playing on a Acer Aspire 5610Z laptop) My installation went fine but after playing the game for a couple of minutes the game crashed, i reboothed my PC and restarted the game. After a couple of minutes the game crashed again, stil unable to discover the problem. My question is if anyone know what might be wrong? Also i can't join any games or create any games even though I have a gold membership and internet connection. I have 1.7 GHz, 2GB RAM, enough space but my only worry is my driver. If this helps I upgraded to VGA-nVIDIA 156.55 for Vista x86(WHQL). BTW i have a 32 bit system. Anyone know what might be the problem? :( Please help me :)
