WLAN Mini-card Good, but cannot detect WIFI ??

Q: WLAN Mini-card Good, but cannot detect WIFI ??

guys this one has me stumped cold. Dell Inspiron laptop, very clean software wise, had original mini-card [internal] which could not detect any wifi networks - known good wifi AP's. All the windows checked showed the device working properly but I finally replaced it with one of the better "n" cards out there. Same thing all over again. Put it right next to a working AP, cannot detect a thing. Antennae is hooked up properly.

If I plug a good WIFI stick into USB, it works immediately, no drama.

I have no idea what is preventing this from detecting anything. What should I be looking for?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi zapp22,

It appears that the 'Wireless Card' is currently 'Disabled'; please check its status in 'BIOS' and 'enable' it if needed. To access 'BIOS' you may follow the steps listed below:
- Power off the laptop > Power it back on and at 'Dell splash screen', repeatedly tap 'F 2 key' (BIOS screen should appear) > Usually 'Dell Inspiron' laptops have a 'category' named 'Advanced' > Ensure that WLAN is enabled > 'Save Settings' and 'Exit'
(Note: BIOS setup may vary based on different laptop models)

If the wireless card still does not detect any networks in 'Windows', try tapping <Function><F2> or only <F2> if the previous key combination does not work. This is the 'radio control' for the 'Wireless Card' installed in the system.

Hope this helps. Do reply with the finding; would be glad to assist.

The version of 1397 WLan Mini-card is 4.176.75.21 (Driver date 01/10/2008), just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64.
It recognizes other wireless connections, but not mine. The router is TP-LINK TD-8951ND. I proved installing/ uninstalling the Mini-Card, updating drivers several times, run an online-dell diagnosis tool, and checking DeviceManager/Properties/Advanced to try with other antenna channels (Fragmentation Threshold, IBSS, Locally Administrated MAC Address, etc.) but nothing works, and I can not access via web the IP of the router.
Any suggestions?

Hi, new to the site today. Bit frustrated, my sister got a new laptop, the one Im using to post this, and connected straight away to my home wireless, and can also view surrounding connections, (neighbours) etc.

I cant. Its a problem with my mini-card it says "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device." However, I clicked to get updated drivers and it said I already had the advanced one?

I called technical support for Dell and because my warranty has expired they want £29 to pay for this solution.

If anyone can help I would very much appreciate it.

I am using a Dell Inspiron 1520. Windows Vista, trying to connect to home wireless and nothing out of the ordinary has happened for this to happen.

Hey Everybody,

I just got my new Dell Inspiron 1721 with Windows Vista and a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card.

The Problem: I can not connect with the Internet via WLA.

I have no problems connecting with the cable. I have tried to connect via WLAN at various locations where I know the notebooks of my fiends and colleges have absolutely no problem.

The Software "Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility" finds all the networks in the "air" but Windows does not and I can not connect to any of them.

I would be VERY VERY happy if anybody knows a solution to this problems!

Thanks in advance!

Hi ssor777 and Welcome to SF,

Is this a work laptop? It is configured in a domain network, it has a DNS suffix of .local.

Another thing...you are using Open DNS's, you may set it back to 'Obtain DNS Server Automatically' from your Wireless setting.

Install and run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector.
Click on the 'Show Networks' to display all wireless networks on the xirrus icon on your desktop if you have one running in a corner. Tap the Printscreen key on your keyboard, open up Paint then choose Edit from the Menu and select Paste, then SAVE it. Upload and attached on your next Post.

Hi:Take a look at device manager, particularly the WLAN card.Any error indicators?
Let’s take a look at the status of the network adapters

Device manager:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.
1. Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
2. Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
3. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?
4. should be enabled and working properly.
5. If error code,what is it ?

It would be best if you could post a screen shot of Device Manager with the Network adapters and Other devices sections expanded.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Also.Go to the Dell site.Search the drivers available for your particular model by inputting the service tag # for your unit.Should be on a side or bottom tag along with model and serial #.This will make it a lot easier to determine the proper driver(s) to download/install

I currently use drivers from 2008:

Driver Version 4.176.75.21 - 10/1/2008

for my Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card.

Whenever I run Microsoft Update it tells me to upgrade to the latest drivers, however, with the newest drivers I experience a SIGNIFICANT drop in throughput- something like from 108 mbps with my current setup to 1-15 mbps with the "updated" drivers.

I'd like to have the most up to date driver, but do not want to limit my Wifi bandwidth either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated-- all my system info *should* be in my profile.

PS I'm a brand new user, so I apologize if this is not a well written post!

A:Updated Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card Worse Connect

If the new driver causes problems and the old one works fine, best to just stick with the old driver. Typically you only need to update your drivers if you are experiencing problems or the new driver adds some functionality. Otherwise it is better to just leave well enough alone. If is listed as an important update, right-click the update and hide it.

If you are set on updating, you can try downloading the driver from the Dell website (link below) and uninstalling the old driver prior to installing the new driver. You can also look at the fixes and enhancements listed on the Dell site to determine if you really need it.

Hello,

I am having a problem which is bugging the bejeezus out of me, and excuse me if this has already been discussed elsewhere (tried to search but didn't find anything relevant).

I have a Dell Latitude D420 with a Dell Wireless 1390 Minicard. The Dell also has its own utility that manages the wireless connection in place of Windows XP.

I currently live in Italy (the computer was purchased in the USA) and am trying to connect to a specific wireless router provided by Fastweb. Fastweb is an Italian ISP that provides its own proprietary router (a Telsey) to use.

Even though I am able to connect to it by wired ethernet, and any other computer/wi-fi enabled device is also able to connect to it wirelessly, my computer just does not pick up the wireless signal from the router.

The strange thing is that when I open the Dell utility and go to the "Site Monitor" tab, the very same router's wireless signal is picked up without fail as a 54 speed at full signal strength.

But when I click on the first tab, the "Wireless Networks" tab and click on "add a network" then it shows a list of available networks-- and the Fastweb router is often not on there! Sometimes it does show up and when I click on it and try to connect, sometimes the signal disappears sometimes it has limited or no connectivity, but never anything consistently close to a stable connection.

When I tried to let Windows manage my wireless connection, the same problem pres... Read more

A:Dell 1390 WLAN Mini-Card unable to recognize specific wireless signal

With the problem being intermittent I doubt that this is the problem, but will plunge ahead anyhow.

I think in Italy the wireless channels are 1-13. If your wireless adapter has a North American driver it should be detecting/using only channels 1-11. If the router in question is using a channel greater than 11 I suggest that you uninstall the wireless adapter and its utility and start over. Make sure you specify the correct region (I think "Europe").

Hello All, I'm looking under the hood of my 1st gen Thinkpad X1 Carbon, and I'm trying to identify the PCIe slots. In particular, the following page states that I should have 2 PCI Express Mini slots: https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/solutions/pd027202 Now I see the WLAN card and the WWAN card, and my natural assumption is that these are both in PCIe ports, but on closer inspection I see that the WLAN card's slot is only 19mm wide, whereas the WWAN card is the standard 26mm width of normal PCIe Mini ports. This raises some questions: 1. Is the WLAN connected to a proprietary slot, or is this just a different type of PCIe standard? 2. If the WLAN is connected to a proprietary slot, where is my second PCIe slot? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Regards,Adam Zebrowski-az

A:Why is my WLAN card slot narrower than my WWAN card slot (PCIe mini)?

On closer inspection, it looks like my SSD connects to a similar-looking slot as my WLAN card. I guess this means my WLAN card uses a SATA connection or something? I normally work with desktop PCs, so I'm unfamiliar with a lot of these laptop hardware standards. Regards,Adam Zebrowski-az-

Hi guysHave an issue with an X220 where the system was ready to be sent to the user, I did system update the night before deploying which included a firmware update, next morning the wifi was disabled. (original bios 1.28 I think, new bios 1.4).The wifi card is no longer detected by the system at all, indicating the firmware has disabled the card. I managed to force it back to a previous BIOS revision but the issue persists, I then rolled to 1.4 official again and have tried the modded bios v1.4 (without wifi whitelist).I have tried the original card in a different unit and it works, and have tried the spare units wifi card (same model card) in this X220, also not detected. So it seems the BIOS is still blocking all similar Intel cards. Interestingly if I try a Broadcom card from a different model Lenovo, it is detected in the mini wifi slot.So this confirms the slot is operational.I cannot use it however since it is a full size card and does not fit in the mini wifi section in the x220.Last idea I had was to try all the cards in the 2nd (full length) slot but that will not pick up any Wifi cards at all. Anybody have an idea where to look to enable the Intel cards again? I have seen mention of a pin which is used for this but surely with the modded bios this should not be an issue? Note that with any of the intel cards inserted no devices are detected in Dev Man, and no option to switch them on via Fn+F5 (wifi option missing) Thanks for any suggestion... HiWhat's the wifi card model, its p/n, Lenovo FRU? If this card isn't approved to use in x220, do you get the lock screen with error 1802 message during the laptop booting with original BIOS? Intitial, factory released version 1.04 dated 2011 year is outdated. The recent version is 1.43. It's impossible to rollback this version to any previous version, 1.28 including.

I have tried replacing the WiFi WLAN card in my T-410 2516-DCU a couple of times, once getting one with the wrong FRU number, then getting possibly the right one with a bad solder joint (which worked for a while, but slower than the one I wanted to replace). The reason for replacement of the original (A Realtek 11 b/g/n PCI II) is that it is 2.4GHz only and won't go faster then 20-30MHz download with a wireless router that does up to 200MHz w/ other wireless devices). I just replaced my mechanical hard drive with a 500GB SSD and now that the computer flies, and my battery lasts forever, and I'd like to have a faster card now. The one I am looking at is the 633ANHMW, Ultimate N 6300 FRU 60Y3233, which from a previous post I made "should" work (see list below). When I had my old card out, I saw that there was a FRU number stamped on the computer frame inside under the keyboard about where the "Pause" key is located and is"FRU 68Y5472" (The stamp is imperfect and the "8" could be a "0" making it FRU 60Y5472 but I doubt it.) Does the one I order have to match the stamped-in one perfectly or is one from a list someone provided good enough? The numbers I was given as compatible were: Below is the list of model with FRU number which will be suitable for your system. I was having Wi-fi issues where it was constantly dropping at multiple locations and with a speed test was getting minimal readings. I bought a new Intel 8260 IEEE 802.11ac - Wi-Fi Adapter from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0197W86IE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I Installed and right away speed went up about 20x. Now it will NOT recognize a wi-fi network unless I stand directly next to the router. Then I can move around the house without an issue. My router is broadcasting both 2.4 and 5. All other devices work with no issues. I tried disabling, enabling, updating the driver, rolling back the driver, deleting the old qualcom driver, resetting network settings etc. I can not seem to get anything to get it back to where it was the 1st day I installed. From what I can tell I have tried everything short of a SYSTEM RESTORE. Could this be a disfunctional card? Could I have damaged the card or wire during installation? Could something have become loose? Anyone with any experience is greatly appreciated. My next step was going to be to open it back up and see of there was a hardware issue. Then my next step was going to be to purchase another. Thanks in advance.

I want to start by saying I have no business trying to fix this on my own but I am determined it has to be something simple! I can not pin point what I did to cause my Wi Fi to stop working or disable.

I have tried all the trouble shooting solutions but unfortunately my magic F8 button will not enable let alone show the option when ghosted! I took my keyboard off and verified the Realtek RTL8191SE is in fact there however next to Network adapters only the PCIe FE Family Controller is listed.

I recently tried to download the Fix offered by Toshiba and Windows, restarted my computer and it is still not recognizing my Wi Fi. Please tell me its an easy fix or just that I need to buy a new card!!! Any advice is greatly appreciated. But please give me the Windows for Dummies version because again I have no clue what I am doing.

Thanks again for any help offered!

Hello everyone I have a very pressing problem. I had Vista running on my Inspiron 1520 Laptop. I recently upgraded to Windows 7, ever since then I have had terrible trouble with my Wireless Card. The driver for the card often comes up as not being able to start I often get Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card can not start Code 10. I have read that this was a problem when reinstalling a OS or installing a new one with this card. I believe I may need a driver for the chip set or something similar. I also understand that I may have to swap back to Vista though I really do hope I don't. I do believe that a recent update from Dell has made this problem chronic as I did not have this problem when I immediately got the laptop back.

I really am hoping that I can get some help here as Dell is not bothered to help as I am out of warranty and they don't seem to care about this older model laptop.

Thanks again for all your help

My building has a free wifi service. There are routers on each floor. My computer has built in wireless lan. It will recognize signals from those who have installed ATT's 2wire system, but not a single signal from and othe routers in the building. I am now using a usb wifi adapter which has detected all the signals. I have reinstalled the drivers and tried to connect the wireless lan but it has been unsuccessful. The windows connection software will not work. It seems strange to be able to detect the ATT connections but not any of the buildings signals.

Hi

My motherboard got a port called Mini PCIE. It looks similar to the standard PCIE port but is much smaller (I guess that's why it's called mini ) AND it appears to be tilted 90 degrees to the right if I'm right. So I would have to place the card vertically. Space seems to be limited. Of course I could be wrong on that.

Board type is MSI AM1i

Photo is below. The port in question is just next to the two SATA data ports. (actually on the left, in the second pictures)
I'd like to install a Wifi card there. Please tell me. How and where? Where am I supposed to place the antennas? Do you know any good cards? I didn't buy the card yet, only the motherboard

Thanks a lot

^^ The mini PCIE port is just above (again, next to the white-blue capacitors and left to the sata ports), and lies vertically in the picture with a number tag written to it

When I boot up my laptop I would say it's a coin flip whether or not it detects my WiFi card on boot--I can tell whether or not it has been detected on boot because the WiFi symbol (instead of the LAN) symbol will appear in the bottom right corner of the home/login screen. When the card is detected the WiFi works PERFECTLY fine. This problem started happening when I used and uninstalled Technitium (a program that allows you to easily change your WIFI card's MAC address.) The reason I was using this program was so I could keep using an airport's complimentary free 30 min WiFi service for a few hours without having to pay--surely I've been paying for it in problems the last few months. Could anyone offer any insight as to how I can fix this? You guys have been my heroes since I was a kid.

For the usb detection error it is an adapter that plugs my micro sd card into the usb port so i can move music onto it to put it in my phone, i had to reformat the sd card while it was in my phone so my phone could use it and now i cannot get it detected on my computer no matter how i connect it (usb adapter, SD card adapter, micro sd port ) and i have yet been able to find a solution to this problem. the device status is "This device could not start. (code 10)"

The issue with my wifi card is still unknown to me as well, i have my wifi card plugged into my desktop and it says i have nothing plugged in in the bottom righthand corner where the internet connection would show. When i go to device manager it has the yellow warning symbol next to it and the device status is as follows "Your computer's systems firmware does not include enough information to properly configure and use this device. to use this device, contact your computer manufacturer to obtain a firmware or bios update. (code 35)"
this wifi card started to perform slowly and made my download rate drop from 1.3MB/s to under 100Kb/sec randomly. I have a Broadcom 802.11g network adapter with hardware id pci\VEN_14E4&DEV_431&SUBSYS_044914E4&REV_02 and i had the driver tuner from broadcom which needs internet to work... seems counter intuitive to me but whatever.

Hi Welcome to Seven Forums .. Your second issue Code 35 could be a BIOS Issue ..

Have a look in System Information there you should find which Version you are using ...

Then check on your Motherboards Website .. To see what the latest Version is ..
Personally i do not recommend Updating the BIOS ..
As for Code 10 that is a tricky one ...

of a wifi solution. This machine did not include wifi.
Any recommendations on a good/very good wifi card for this machine?
I have searched Intel wifi cards and may be interested in the 8265 ac with the desktop kit...
I will be installing this card myself, so any insight you all may have would be helpful.

Hello everyone,i'll try to give the most details i can.I just bought a 2nd hand t470s, and started by reinstalling windows from a usb bootable win10 i had at home.Everything worked fine except for the wifi card : i dosnt show anywhere. i cant see it on the device manager, its not greyed out nor hidden. Everything up to date, from windows update, to single driver update from the device manager, the intel update tool or even all the lenovo support drivers.I finally asked the support for a clean win10 pro update using my serial number. reinstalled everything clean, but still no wifi card detected. I switch with a killer 1535 from my other laptop : the ac 8265 worked on my other laptop, but i couldnt get the killer 1535 to work on my 470s (i could see it in the devicer manager but kept getting greyed out..).I spent the last 4 days on it and i feel like i read all the google pages that couldve helpt me.

Hi there,

I recently purchased a Asus PCE-N53 Wifi Card for my computer and lets say it has been an extreme disappointment. I have been getting 3mb/s download while I have 50mbps bandwidth. I have contacted ASUS support and gone through all their steps and they are now telling me to send it in.

I have some gift cards I would like to use at Future Shop (here is their selection of network adapters.) If nothing there is good then please recommend whatever you think would work fine.

Thanks!

Hi,
I recently bought a Toshiba SatPro U400-S1001V, which came with windows vista. But because i prefer XP, I loaded the XP Pro which came with the laptop, and updated it to service pack 3.

The problem Im having now is that the laptop fails to detect any wlan networks. The computer came with an internal Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card. When it didnt work, the first thing i tried was to reinstall the drivers (from the recovery cd), but the installation returned the message that wlan probably wouldnt work because the card wasnt connected. the switch for WLAN was turned on. I also tried reinstalling the card from the device manager, that didnt help.

Lastly, i figured that the card might just be defect. so i bought an external card (which i can still return to the store) and installed it. The card i bought was a Belkin Wireless G notebook card. The laptop still cant find any networks. Ive also tried this in different areas which have different networks, so its not encryption or anything like that.

When i run the diagnostic with the Belkin program, i get this:
Loopback-pass
IP-fail
Gateway-fail
DNS-fail
WAN-pass
Heartbeat-pass
Belkin-fail
Yahoo-pass

In Network Connections, the wireless connection is listed as not-connected and firewalled. the other connections (with wires) are connected and firewalled (they work fine). I have tried repairing the network, and it runs through fine until it tried to reconnect, which fails.

Make sure you have the latest XP Intel driver from your PC manufacturer's web site. Before you install that install the latest chipset drivers from there also.

Are you using WZC or the Intel Proset (or another one) to manage the wireless connection? Are you sure that no other utility is running?

Are you sure that there exists a wireless network to detect?

Adapter is this: https://www.asus.com/fi/Networking/PCEAC68/

I replaced my old wlan-adapter with this Asus to get better speeds.

Card shows with the status "not connected" and don't detect any networks (the list is empty where available networks usually shows.

In device manager everything seems to fine by me. Under properties of NIC it shows "This device is working properly".

I have tried to install older drivers instead of the latest ones, disable / enable the MB's own NIC.

A:Wlan adapter won't detect any networks

It may be faulty....did you buy it new? You may want to consider exchanging it for a different one and then seeing if you still have the same issue.

However, try this, in the device manager does it show BOTH the new adapter and the motherboard's adapter in the device manager?

I went to the folder to click on Setup.exe or Install.exe but the Installshield won't continue and won't finish its Loading (Installing green thingy), command prompt will suddenly pops out and close and again, and just nothing happens... As for my laptop network controller hardware id, heres the 4 lines:PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&SUBSYS_1483103C&REV_01PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&SUBSYS_1483103CPCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&CC_028000PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&CC_0280

They keyboard can be difficult to start charging for the first time. Try plugging into the charger with the keyboard docked and turn on. Undock and redock the keyboard, then power off but leave plugged into charger.

As for the WiFI - have you tried pressing fn f2?
