Sony Bravia Media Server problems with large content

Q: Sony Bravia Media Server problems with large content

I am running a Media Server via my Cisco Linksys E3000 router using an attached USB hard drive. This device uses PVConnect UPnP. When I connect to this Media Server using my Sony Bravia KDL40Z5100, only the photos with resolution less than 720 are available. Similarly, folders containing only jpegs of higher resolution return "There are no items to display". However, when I use Windows Media Player to connect to this UPnP, I can see and access all my jpg photos of any resolution, so I know the media server is working fine.
Anyone have any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Sony Bravia Media Server problems with large content

I'm having the same issue with my Bravia KDL-46EX701 TV and E3000. Based on the following post regarding a similar issue with an HP server using PVConnect UPnP, the problem appears to be in the router firmware:

http://forum.wegotserved.com/index.php/topic/12318-no-media-showing-on-sony-tv/

PVConnect is now Twonky. A Google search shows that issues have existed between Twonky servers and Sony TV's.

Hello all,

I have a Sony Bravia KDL46EX640. I have connected it wirelessly without issue. I can go online, and view my files on my laptop (windows 7). I had an issue connecting to my pc (also windows 7), but when I changed the sharing encryption from 128 bits down to . . . whatever it was (can't remember) it worked.

Now for some reason it is not able to view and content from that pc again. I am thinking it might be an ip issue, I my wife said there was an ip conflict on the laptop once.

How should I diagnose and fix this issue?
Thanks.

Connected via wireless. All ok and says have Internet connection, but cannot access any video content' I.e. iplayer, etc. when check via refresh internet content (as Sony recommend) says "configuration failed while connecting. The system has encountered an error. If problem persists contact Sony (5006)". Sony say wireless strength insufficient, but when tried wired set up be relocating NETGEAR router gives same error message. Have NETGEAR wireless extender good signal with full connectivity via laptop, iPad and iPhone. Also when try server display settings says servers cannot be recognised. When go to options and select update list repeats "servers cannot be recognised. Have checked all IP etc and same as on laptop:

At last i've managed to get my new bravia set up and working on my local network, or so i thought. All was fine, server recognised once i had turned off router firewall and all media files accessible. However, i went out and obviously everything powered down and when i came to log back on, i couldn't connect to the server. So i tried various things like refreshing internet content, server diagnostics etc etc. I could access the internet ok but when i looked at the network status it was showing the bravia disconnected. Any ideas on how to connect again without going through the delete process and readding the server, which also can be a bit of a pain

I have just recently purchased a 46" Internet TV and every time I turn the TV on it asks if I want to update the software. I try to click on the yes button; however it won't connect with this update screen. The regular TV screen sits behind the update screen (the update screen is somewhat translucent) and will only allow me to access it. When I turn the TV off and on again the update doesn't show up; however after the TV is shut off for a period of time the update screen pops up again and I don't seem to be able to access it again. Please help; I have no idea how to solve this? Is this some kind of software error.

My Television hunt has came to a sudden halt since I found Sony BRAVIA KDL-40V3000 40" LCD.

I was close to buying a 32" samsung around chirstmas, but decided to be patient, save up more and wait for a great deal to appear somewhere for a full HD television

Ideally I am looking for all this in one package:

Budget: ~£800
Size: 32"+
Resolution: 1080p (full HD)
Contrast Ratio: 1000:1+
Brightness: 450cd/m2
Response: < 8ms
+ reputable image/color enhancement technology

Sony BRAVIA KDL-40V3000 model meets all these requirements, but I see other 40" 1080p screens for far less, from samsung, LG etc, most notably the SONY KDL40D3500. The features look identical, but its cheaper

What do you guys think? Is Sony BRAVIA KDL-40V3000 one of the hottest deals at the moment or can you recommend any different sets (maybe your own...)? To let you know, I will use the television primarily for playing games. For this reason I think that the televisions response time is probably the biggest factor I must consider

I look forward to any advice

I have toggled the Fn/F4 keys several times, but no display on the TV. When the F4 key is pressed the monitor on the PC blanks for a moment. Any help would be appreciated.

This weekend I tried connecting an old laptop ( XP os ) to my Sony LCD tv. When I hook it up with pc running and switch the tv to the pc input, the tv drops power and cannot be turned on until cable is removed.
The cable should be correct, a Belkin HDDB15 male/HDDB15 male VGA/SVGA. The package was labeled to connect a pc to a monitor.
The pc works connected to another monitor but that cable is attached in the housing.
I don't have another tv with a pc input to determine if the problem is the cable ( new ) or the tv.
Any ideas?

Hi,
I've connected a VGA cable from the back of my HP tower to a new Sony Bravia 40" (VGA to VGA) For whatever reason, I can get EITHER my monitor or the TV to display the computer, but NOT both at the same time. Any suggestions? Is this a resolution problem? The computer won't output at a resolution as low as the TV seems to demand (680 x 460 I think). Computer doesn't go lower than 800 x 600... or something like that. Please help.

What do you mean get things working ? You would not connect your Sony LCD TV with an Ethernet cable, you would connect it via the VGA adapter or a DVI adapter from your video card. Is that what you mean?

I'm really annoyed with all the restrictions that my SONY BRAVIA TV imposes on file formats and just how limited it's video player. So I ask you, is there a way to install XBMC on my SONY BRAVIA TV? After all it uses linux, or at least if not that - can I run something like VLC Media player on it to play all video files, a portable version perhaps?

It's really stupid how all these expensive gadgets from companies like Apple and SONY have all the latest features but they can support only one video format - MP4, how annoying!

It looks like that system doesn't do video pass-through - so you'll have to hook the video from the X-Box straight to your TV. You can pass your audio into the system though, and your best quality will come from using a toslink cable from your (I'm assuming it's an X-Box 360) to this device.

Hi All,

Just bought a Sony Bravia KDL-46EX723 today and i am currently trying to connect it to my BT home hub via a "wired set up".

BT home hub does not seem to be detecting the TV at all, when i try to do an auto set up it searches for a while and then comes back with, cable connection:failed, local access:failed, internet access:failed.

I have went on to my network page to see if it was connecting to anything else and it is finding my external hardrive no problem via the Ethernet cable.

I have tried looking at my computer IP details and adding them manually to the TV, but no joy, just comes back with the same errors.

Now i am stuck.....any ideas?

I then made it make my HDTV the default monitor for when I plug it in to see if that worked and it didnt. So NOW I can not troubleshoot my problem without making it mirrored again because I cant see what Im doing. I looked on microsofts website and it said nothing on how to do it. PLEASE HELP!!

Also, What settings should I do to get video? on my TV? Its a 46" Sony Bravia

It tries to come up but its black and white and curved everywhere like I hooked an antenna up to it with bad signal. The sound just makes a humming noise still also. I tried all different resolutions and no luck. I also tried different NTSC and PAL signals and no luck.

any information in the network settings - like IP address at all

from a working PC can you post an ipconfig /all
and then on the TV we can try to setup a fixed IP

ipconfig /all

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
Note: you will see entries named Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: we dont need to see that information - JUST the information above those entries

to Sony Bravia LCD 32'
Helloall,

Before going out to buy cables for doing the above, I've googled around as to what best options there are.
My laptop (which I want solely to watch downloaded films from w/o charging from room to room with a USB stick for my LG HDD/DVD recorder player or burning DVD all the time) I plan to put somewhere near my Sony LCD TFT TV, hook it up and
off I go. It has DVI output for Monitor etc. Sony has HDMI input and also
VGA 15 PIN sub. Since Laptop has DVI, I'm thinking of DVI-HDMI converted cable. Read so much abt. the problems this may cause that I'm not so sure. My desktop (next room) has only VGA output. Since it's in the next room I'd like to keep the monitor there functional aswell. Will using a VGA splitter cable (Y) cause any problems? (I'm prepared to walk next door to start a film, that's no prob) but don't know whether there'll be interference between the monitor and TV (or even on PC desktop). I know I'll have to connect up separate Audio cable, that's no prob, all facilities exist.

Last question for now (my name says all): Monitor used with desktop is connected via 15 PIN VGA but also has free DVI. Can I loop thru, i.e.
PC image output into montor via VGA and from there onward via DVI?
I think I already know the answer (NO!!!) but maybe, maybe, maybe.
Any help much appreciated and bear with me (I'm 58 and new to the games of going beyond basic PC appliances like Excel... Read more

Hi all,

Hope someone can help, this is driving me mad!

I've just bought a Sony EX600 TV and I want to connect my laptop to it to stream video/music. Both the laptop (HP DV6000) and the TV are connected to my Belkin Share N300 router wirelessly (TV via Sony wifi dongle) but I can't get them to recognise each other. At one point I at least had the TV recognised as a device on the laptop and the TV was showing the laptop as a recognised media server (even if I couldn't get streaming to work) but I deleted the TV as a device from the device manager and now I can't get the TV to be recognised anymore.

I know that my laptop is probably not DNLA certified, so I may struggle to do this all wirelessly, but I've even connected the two via LAN cable and still no joy.

What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it?

Cheers,

J (Absolutely fed up!!)

Hi Guys,

First off can I apologise for probably asking one of the most asked questions on the planet but I am very new to the whole linking TV and Laptop game and simply have got lost with all the various hints tips etc that is about. My question is simple what cables etc will I need to be able to watch and hear what is being played on my laptop to my Sony Bravia HDTV, some advice specifies one cable, others say this and others say that. I'll try and list what I think is useful information below:

Sony Bravia

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-KDL-20S3000-Widescreen-Bravia-Freeview/dp/B000VZ846G

The above link to the Amazon website where I purchased the product has full technical details but a quick run down says that:

2x Scart, 1x HDMI and it also states PC Interface VGA (HD-15) but I dunno what the last one means.

The laptop spec is as follows:

Fujitsu Siemens Amilo PA 2548

http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.203-4110.aspx

The above link to the Tesco website where I purchased the product again has full spec but basically it says that the output is DVI-I.
Thank you in advance for any help you guys can offer, again all I really want to know is what cables/other accessories I will need to be able to link the audio and video together from the laptop to the TV.

I just got an XPS 8900 and I connected it to my Sony Bravia TV using HDMI. My TV is connected to a sound bar and was hoping to get audio from my desktop through the sound bar. For some reason audio is not working through the desktop and TV. Is there anything I must do in settings to change this?

A:XPS 8900, Sony Bravia TV, no audio

Is HDMI video being sent to the TV?
Which HDMI out are you using from the XPS 8900? The onboard middle HDMI out or the bottom added discrete video card HDMI out? If a video card is added, the onboard HDMI out is disabled.
I would take the soundbar out of the troubleshooting. Enable the TV speakers =

Do you then get audio from the XPS 8900 HDMI cable connected to the TV? If not, on the Windows taskbar right, open the speaker playback on the XPS 8900 and make sure that the correct HDMI is green checked Enabled.

Usually you would have to hit some kind of command to bring your laptop's display to the HDTV. If you right click the desktop and go into the Nvidia control panel properties there should be a setting to setup an external display device. Do a little looking around, you will get it.

I am at a loss I tried 2 differnet vga cables and the same thing so I am thinking it has something to do with how the TV reads the signal or the way the PC sends out the signal.....Any help woth be highly appreciated...

Good Evening,

I have decided to connect my home PC up to my Sony Bravia ( model number in thread header ) so as to use it for watching movies. I had a number of issues to begin with but have managed to get it working so far. Mainly thanks to this great forum i may add.

What my problem is now is that when i power down my PC and then re boot it i dont get a picture. I get the initial screen when it boots up and runs the BIOS ( i think thats it ) but when it tries to run windows i get nothing.

What i have to do is boot up my PC connected to original monitor, let windows load then unplug monitor and plug into TV and it works from there. But i dont want to do this everytime i start my PC.

I have adjusted my video card resolution to 1024x768 @ 60 Hz which is the best running resolution for my TV.

I am running

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz, 2194 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)

OS Name Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium

NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS

Via VGA to Sony Bravia KDF-E50A12U

Can anyone provide some suggestions as to help my problem?

Thanks
**************UPDATED************

i downloaded the latest driver for my video card and i am now connected via DVI on my PC to VGA on my TV. I am also running at 72Hz now. The image quality is superb!! But i still have the problem that i have to boot on my standard PC monitor and then switch the cable to my TV. And it works!

Someone please HELP ME!!

I have owned the sony tv for about 5 months now. It does automatic updates. Until recently I have been able to be connected to my wireless netgear router. A few days ago it has decided not to connect to the router. I have manually put in the SSID any other info it asked for but I'm far from a computer tech and don't honestly know what it wants from me. Does any one have any information on this issue with Sony TV. When I went online to search out information I found that the forums that had questions were quite old. If anyone has a simple step by step fix for this issue, please let me know. I miss my Netflix!!

A:No WiFi connection between Sony Bravia TV and Netgear

I have moved to a thread of your own

Is this a TV that will not connect ? - as thats the post that you replied on
If so whats the make and model
if not - please provide full details of what equipment you have and what is not working

That ipconfig /all is showing a default gateway IP address of 0.0.0.0

IP addresses of all zeros are normally caused by one of the following.

Diagnosis:
Firewall / security suite
DHCP Service not running.
Duplicate IP address on the network.
Bad NIC card drivers.
Defective NIC hardware.

Resolution:
What firewall / security suite or anti-virus do you currently have on the PC - or you have ever had on the PC in the past - any trial ware - like Norton, Mcafee , AVG etc

Check Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. The DHCP Client service should be Started and its Startup Type should be Automatic.

Turn off ALL of the computers and other network connected devices, restart (power cycle) the router, then restart all the computers and other network devices.

Check for upgraded drivers and/or reload the Network drivers.

uninstall the adapter and restart PC - windows will re-install the drivers

The above is on a Dell Inspiron 5511 - barely one year old. I am trying to connect it to my Sony Bravia KDL46XBR2 purchased in 2006, using HDMI cables. The TV has an output resolution of 1080i. I changed it to 720p to no avail.

Consulted many websites on how to achieve a connection, I even tried two different cables, but always get the same <<no signal>> message. This is what I do: ON MY COMPUTER:I go to Control Panel, Display, Change Display Settings, then try just about every permutation and combination of choices that all the drop-down windows offer (e.g., Extend, Duplicate, etc.). And I make sure to click on Apply. I see two icons (1 for the computer and 2 being the television) but when I press No. 2 the computer only shows the big No.1 sign -- it simply does not detect nor recognize the television. ON MY TV: I set it to the PC setting.

I have succeeded in connecting a previous laptop with a VGA cable to this same TV. Is it possible that the HDMI slot on the TV is malfunctioning, and if so, how can I test that? Also, I have successfully c... Read more

Some time ago , i bought a beautiful SONY Bravia internet TV , the 40NX700. I treid to connect my laptop (SAMSUNG R510) to it, with a DHMI cable and it worked perfectly. After some time, it did not work anymore. So I tried with the VGI cable. Yes, it worked, although the laptop screen was black, and could not reset it. After one day, the TV showed, it could not connect with.
Anyone can give me advice on this??

Hi,

I have have a PC that is connected to a Sony Bravia LCD KDL40W4100 1080P) through a VGA connection. The video card is a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GS. The TV supports the desired resolution of 1280x720 through the VGA port.

The Problem. I have a network of offices (200+) that have a similar configuration of one or multiple TVs connected to a PC to display content. All of the PCs are identical (exactly the same). I schedule each PC to reboot every Monday but there are a handle full of PCs that default the screen resolution (Desktop 2 and 3) from 1280x720 back to 1024x768. I can change the resolution through Windows display settings or through NVIDIA's Control Panel and it stays until it reboots again. Sometime the TVs are recognized in the NVIDIA control panel as a Sony TV and then there are a few that are recognized as an Analog TV. I did set the option to force a TV recognition upon reboot hoping this might resolve the issue but looking to see if there is anything else that someone else has seen.

So, can anyone tell me how I can keep the 1280x720 resolution from defaulting to 1024x768 after a PC reboot when connected to a Sony Bravia LCD?

Thanks,
Pat

I have a Sony Vaio TZ36GN. It only has one port for an external monitor -VGA. I had it downgraded recently to XP because Vista was painfully slow. I installed all the drivers off of the Sony site and installed them according to the instructions and everything is working smoothly.

I have a Sony Bravia which has several HDMI ports and a designated PC in port (VGA). I bought a D-sub 15 pin VGA cable and attempted to connect the two.

Tha laptop seems to acknowledge that a cable has been connected (by the little recognition sound it makes when anything is plugged in), however that's about all it does. It doesn't recognize the TV at the other end, nor does the TV recognize the laptop and displays a 'No signal' when the input mode is switched to PC.

Pressing the FN+F7 key brings up 'LCD only'. There is no option for any additional/external monitors. When I open up my display properties I can alter screen 1 & 2 and 'expand desktop to this monitor'- but that doesn't make a difference. I've tried changing the resolution but to no avail. No matter what resolution I set it two, they refuse to sync.

Am I doing something wrong? Missing some special xp related driver? Is it the TV? Or is it just not possible to directly hook up a regular VGA cable and use your TV as an external monitor?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as Sony's support page is of no help.

I'm trying to hook-up my laptop with my Sony Bravia TV which uses Miracast.  If I go to the add device page on my laptop it does give me the TV Model #.  It gives me both a display and TV.  The most success I've had is by trying to connect it as a display.  The add device gives me a six digit code once I click on the display to add it.  I run to the TV to make sure the codes shows up on my TV which it does.  On the TV I hit pair and run back into the room why my laptop and answer yes that they agree.  I then get the message that the TV was tired of waiting and to try again. Any help !?!?!?   Thanks Gary

My Sony Bravia TV no longer recognizes my home network. When I attempt to access Netflix it tells me "network error occurred." In the Network setting on the tv it says it's connected and on the router it says the Bravia tv is connected. I have reset the router and restored factory defaults on the tv and re-installed the network to the tv and I'm still getting the same message. I'm connected through a Sony UWA-BR100 wireless lan adapter. Any suggestions?

Hey All

So I'm using my Sony Bravia 19.5" screen as my monitor, which works fine when I use a normal monitor cable, but when I switch to a HDMI cable to make the most of the supported HD, my resolution goes crazy.

The TV itself will not let me change the resolution, it can only be done through my PC.

The resolution is either really tall and skinny or really wide, pushing the screen across onto my other monitor and getting rid of my start bar and far left of the screen completely.

I really want to use dual screen and the HDMI cable, but my TV is driving me crazy! Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

Forgot to add I am using a Nvidia GeForce 9600GT card

A:Resolution Issue when using Sony Bravia as Monitor

Humm - pretty much what I have (same card) but I'm running mine through a Toshiba 32" LCD.

The vid card on mine did some of the work, but to fix that 'bar-off-the-screen' issue in mine, the Toshiba has a button on its remote called PIC SIZE which allowed me to correct that problem. Now, not knowing which Bravia (or its remote) that you have, that should still be a in-box fix with the TV. I see by looking up a few on Google that there are buttons marked THEATER and WIDE/STANDARD/TO FIT functions on some Bravia remotes, and that is where I would be looking.

At the bottom of the remote is a model number - if you could post that, we might be able to figure this out.

I am trying to connect my Gateway laptop (running on Windows 7 64 bit) to a 40" Sony Bravia through a VGA cable. The TV doesn't recognize the PC at all. I am sure I pressed the right function key in the computer to switch to TV monitor. But no use. It's able to recognize another Dell laptop (on XP) with no problem. Appreciate your help!! Thanks..

Hi,

I have a Sony Bravia LCD - (KLV -46D300A), KLV-40D300A, KLV32D300A model numbers that are mentioned on the booklet. I also have a Acer 5920 laptop.

I wanted to connect my laptop to the LCD TV for playing the DVD player in my laptop and having the video output on the LCD TV.

The manual suggests using the HDMI wire to connect both i.e Laptop and the LCD Tv, however the Laptop does not seem to have the port to put in the HDMI wire. I got another two wires both with one side USB which goes in my laptop. The other side for one of them is the three colour pins (red, yellow and blue) I tried pluggin in them on the side - and then realised that that side was for the Camcorder connection.

I would really need help to understand which wire I can use which can be connected in both which will give me the desired output to the LCD screen
