7 Critical Updates To Be Released On "Update Tuesday"

Q: 7 Critical Updates To Be Released On "Update Tuesday"

According to an article that I just read, 7 critical updates are to be released on "Update Tuesday"(July 11th): 4 for Windows and 3 for Office.

Don't we just love to see the second Tuesday of each month arrive?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've found: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4558998 which I *think* is the July patch Tuesday update for WIndows Server 2019 (long term support channel).
1. Is there any way to confirm which KB is the "patch Tuesday"?
2. Why doesn't the above link, list all of the fixed KBs that have been rolled into it?
I did find this site: https://portal.msrc.microsoft.com/en-US/security-guidance/advisory/CVE-2020-1350
3. For example, for CVE-2020-1350, it does list 4558998 in the Security Updates table at the bottom. Does this imply CVE-2020-1350 is fixed by applying 4558998? But again, why isn't there just one page for 4558998 which lists all addressed CVEs?
My overall goal here is to be able to have a definitive list of cumulative updates and know exactly what is included in them.
Thanks

It is now Friday and my Windows 7 - 64 bit OS hasn't found this month's updates yet. It's using 50% CPU usage on one of the svchost.exe for system functions in Task Manager (see attached screen shot). I tried to find help on the Web but there are many and conflicting theories and solutions why this is happening. Apparently I am not the only on having this problem. IS there any easy and sure remedy?

Today is Microsoft Tuesday --- the SECOND Tuesday of the month --- on which Microsoft is expected to release its monthly cycle of Windows security updates.   Based on previous history, they should become available at 1 P.M. [USA - Eastern Daylight Saving Time]
Starting today, there is a new procedure:   Windows Update for consumer PCs will offer a [single] security monthly quality update (also known as the "monthly rollup") that will contain all new security fixes for a month... plus fixes from all previous monthly rollups.
A rollup is simply multiple patches rolled together into a single update. These rollups will replace individual patches . Each monthly rollup will supersede the previous month's rollup. The ultimate goal is for these monthly rollups to become fully cumulative, which will happen as the team adds patches released in the past, so users need only to install the latest single rollup.

So I have this weird thing happening in my relatively fresh install of Windows 10.
Whenever I search for "Check for Updates" or "Windows Update settings" on the search box of the start menu, I get the results that I want but if I press enter or try to click on those results nothing happens.. As far as I know I can click all others search results but those, and maybe others related to windows update.

I can still get updates by going to Settings>Update & Security though.

In my other computers this works fine, and as far as I can tell all the updates are done.
From what I've searched around other people seemed to have a similar issue where they couldn't acess the settings at all which isn't my case. Still I tried the sfc/ scannow that a lot of users seemed to recommend but no results.

A:Can't click on "Check for Updates" "Windows Update settings" on Start

Spanker,
.............. Still I tried the sfc/ scannow that a lot of users seemed to recommend but no results. .....................

Please clarify what did you mean by "no results".

When sfc /scannow is completed, it will give you one of the following 3 reports....................(paraphrasing)

1. No integrity violation.
2. Found corrupted files and repair is successful.
3. Found corrupted files but unable to repair some of them.

Which one of the above is applicable to you ?

Hello guys,

I don't know what I did, but nothing happens when I click on those two things in the search bar:

View image: wtf

I reinstalled Windows a few hours ago, and IIRC pressing those with the mouse lead somewhere. Now when I click on them, it does nothing. I have to type in "Settings", so I can click on the actual Windows App. Then I can navigate to those settings. IIRC those results were "clickable".

Can somebody help?

Thanks in advance!

The problem I report here I have found with every computer I have owned.

I have set my computer to "check for updates but let me choose whether to install them" and do not download them.

Regardless of this setting I notice (often within days) that my computer is much slower than usual and when I check via the "restore my computer to an earlier time" facility I can see that there are downloads of "critical" updates. I usually pick a point before the update and restore - this sets my computer back to running at a decent speed.- (these "critical" updates are not shown on the "installed updates" page which is why I check via the restore facility).

What is the problem here and WHY does my computer download these "critical" updates ?

What is the point of having various setting regarding downloading updates if they are downloaded anyway ?

I have noticed this problem of "critical" updates and speed on every computer I have ever used ( all with differing amounts of memory/cpu/etc etc).

Why is this ?

A:"critical" updates slow netbook..Packard Bell dot..Windows 7 starter

There are some updates which are regarded as of overriding importance, and which ignore the settings - however, they are very few, and generally do not lead to any slowing of the system except at the first boot after install.
Exactly which updates are you talking about?

The problem is that, although "started" and "automatic", the "server" service under Administrative Services has to be "Re-Started" every time I boot up the tower. Once done, my wife's laptop can see my tower shared folder and print on my attached printer, until the next time I shut down my tower. Microsoft released 5 "out of cycle" updates on April 26th. These are reliability updates to resolve problems in Windows 7 SP1, including problems with Windows Explorer.

If you haven't yet been alerted to and installed these updates, run a manual scan with Windows Update to obtain them. You'll need to restart your computer afterwards.

I often read stories about MS offering patches for just-discovered vulnerabilities. They are for XP almost exclusively, and I have Windows 98 SE, so I know anything recent won't apply to me. What about patches for the old stuff I have? I'm never offered "patches" for anything when I'm at the Update site. They offer Critical Updates, but they don't call them "patches." Are they the same thing?

For instance, I have Word 97. After a recent trojan incident, I was told to get the Word 97 patch that disables macros from executing (or something). They provided a direct link to the patch I needed. Without someone telling you that you have a situation for which MS has a patch AND providing a direct link to it, how are you supposed to know? Is it because Word 97 is so old and I'm just out of luck? I never see "patches" for Windows 98 SE offered to me, is that also because it's so old? The MS Knowledge Base seems to be crammed full of these patches, and they call them "patches" and everybody refers to them as "patches". Is there a way to find out what "patches" my decrepit old system has avilable to it?

I typed facebook.com in my firefox browser today and was redirected to a full-page ad demanding that I am "required to get critical adobe flash update." I'm sure it was a scam, but I had to close out my browser to get rid of it. It's only happened once, but still, if there is some malware on my computer, I would like to get rid of it.

Here are my current extensions / add-ons / plugins for firefox:

AdBlock Plus
Saved Password Editor
iTunes Application Detector
Java Deployment Toolkit (which is blocked by firefox. I don't know what it is or why its in my browser)
Java Platform SE 7 U51
Picasa
Shockwave Flash
Shockwave for Director

As you can see, I don't even HAVE an ADOBE flash plugin to update (unless that's what shockwave is). Anyway, what's your best advice for cleaning this little bugger out of my computer / browser?

Hello - I have my Windows update settings to "notify but do not download." When I check my history of restore points I see that there are several created anyway with the description "Windows Update-Critical Update." I checked one of them for changes to programs and drivers and the were none. This seems to happening about every 3 days.

Can anyone explain this behavior? Is this just an automatic update that is mislabeled? And why every three days - from my research it appears recovery points are supposedly scheduled every seven days?

Thanks!

A:Why am I getting automatic restore points named "Critical Update"?

Hello Ed, and welcome to Seven Forums.

By default when System Protection is turned on for you C drive, Windows will automatically create a restore point right before any Windows Update is installed. Since it was a critical update, that's why the restore point was named that.

Hope this helps,

I have been having a series of problems over the past few months starting with an inablility to install an HP Photosmart printer. I had also been getting a constant stream of "_____ has encountered a problem and must close." Then I had tried to install the critical update of the new IE7 and that created a series of error messages that a file was missing "C:\DOCUME~1BLGARR~1Locals~1\Temp\IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe" each time I booted my system. I then could not access the AOL browser that uses the IE format. I had to use RESTORE to reverse this situation. Now I have no IE7 at all but I use Netscape7.2 and 8 and also Firefox and they work fine, however I did have to delete and reinstall Firefox to restore it.
I have been in contact with Micorsoft and I have a case ID assigned. They have gone through a series of test fixes all of which have not worked.
I was instructed to create another user account with Admin level. This did not work (and now I cannot delete that account!)
I was instructed to run Internet Explorer No Add-ons mode and that did not work.
I tried to run Internet Explorer in Safe Mode and that did not work.
I sent them a Windowsupdate.log. I was asked to run inetcpl.cpl and that file would not run. It was determined that the file was corrupt and loading a new file from another computer should be done. I had access only to an older WinXP Pro O/S and its inetcpl file was 4 years older (2002 version) however when I did a RESTORE I never replac... Read more

Still it doesn't create any File or Folder and when the BSOD happens the blue screen say that its collecting info but it doesn't get off 0% .
