Solved: Changing Windows' main font?

Q: Solved: Changing Windows' main font?

Hi,

Is there a way to set the main Windows font on Windows XP?
I think it currently uses Arial, and I want it to use Lucida Grande (which I have installed) for folders' names, Windows' titles, etc...

Preferred Solution: Solved: Changing Windows' main font?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a hard drive that comes with my PC and that has a corrupted Windows, but the boot.ini still works fine. So I got a new hard drive and installed a new fresh copy of Windows XP on it. So now I want to format the old hard drive and use the new hard drive as the boot drive. However, if I removed the old hard drive, the new hard drive doesn't boot at all. I've tried using the FIXMBR, FIXBOOT, and BOOTCFG /REBUILD commands, but I think I did it wrong.

Hello,
I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a Dell Precision M6800 laptop, graphics card is Nvidia Quadro K3100M. I have a 3-monitor setup: one monitor being the laptop LCD, and the other two being Dell U2414h. My laptop is on the far right. I've had these in extended mode with a Display Port 1.2 daisy chain setup for about 1.5 years. Due to the massive headache of the DP1.2 daisy chain setup not being reliable with these monitors (tons of forums on this subject), I recently bought an HDMI 2.0 cable so I could run one U2414h off of the DP1.2 port on my laptop and the other U2414h off the HDMI port on my laptop. When all three monitors are turned on, I like my main display to be the monitor on the far left. With the previous daisy chain setup, my main display would shift from left to right as my monitors were turned off (left to right). With this current setup (one via DP1.2, the other via HDMI), my main display will not shift to my middle monitor when the left one is turned off, so when I turn my left monitor off, I lose my task bar and all icons (they don't shift to another monitor). Is anyone else using a similar setup where they've had this issue, and was there a resolve?

Thanks in advance!

A:Windows 7 no changing main display when monitor is turned off

Hi Mike Moren, welcome to the Forum.

As you are using separate inputs to the monitors, one being HDMI & the other the DP1.2 port, you will not get automatic shifting of the main Desktop screen when you turn one of the monitors off, like you were before.

You can use the Windows key/P key to switch between monitors. You are using the extended screen set up at present, so only one screen has the full desktop showing. Using the Windows/P keys you can have all screens as duplicate also if you wish. Try it out & see for yourself.

If you right click on your main desktop & select Screen Resolution there are some options to select from as well.

My problem is that when I copied over fonts to the windows fonts and told it to replace the current font it didn't do what I wanted. For example I copied over a font with the name HS.ttf, and when I now look at the corresponding font it is called HS_1.ttf. I have a certain program that looks in the Windows\Fonts folder for a font called HS.ttf and it currently can't find that file.

I thought no big deal I'll just rename HS_1.ttf to HS.ttf. That's where I have a problem, when I try to do that it gives me the error 'Cannot rename HS_1: A file with the name you specified already exists. Specify a different file name.' When I do a search for a file called HS.ttf it can't be found anywhere. How do I go about finding and removing this HS.ttf and renaming my HS_1.ttf file so that my program can correctly find the font file I want it to?

A:[SOLVED] Changing font name properties

There are 3rd party programs that do what you want. Be careful about renaming since .ttf's can have the same name as psf's and you might come up with something unexpected. Also remember properties of type 1 and type 2 (different).

IE8 kind of limits font sizes and I believe what you're referring to is the % for a particular website, but I find the easiest solution is using Ctrl with your scroll wheel and voila, any size you want.

How do you make the font size larger for the browser headers and toolbars? I'm using Windows XP/IE6. I know how to increase the size of the print on the screen, but my specific concern is the stuff across the top that's part of the browser's program. I'm sight-impaired and finding that it's so small it's giving me headaches. I know it can be bigger, as it was fine on my last computer.....Since I'm using new hardware, it's almost half the size.

A:Solved: Changing font size of browser

Right-click on the Desktop > Properties > Appearance tab, set it to "Windows Classic Style", then click in "Advanced".

You can set the size of many parts of the Window and also the type, size and color of the fonts. The ones you should set are "Active Title Bar", "Inactive Title Bar" and "Menu". But there are also a few others you might want to customize. I like to set my fonts to Bold to make them stand out a little more.

This will change how all windows look, not just IE, but you might prefer it that way. When you have everything how you like it go to the Themes tab and save it. If you reinstall Windows you can save off the .theme file and reapply it after the new install and get your old theme back.

Installed a game. When I opened it an error message popped up. Requires 256 color. I went to shortcut icon and right clicked properties and changed to 256 color and the second choice which was resolution 640 x 480 I believe. The screen went black and white and looked like chrome.

I was on the internet, so I quit and restarted computer. Now all the fonts on the desktop, the start button, the clock, the closed window labels, the program bubbles plus the X's for the close toolbar on internet and the fonts in the bottom right of Internet Explorer 8 look like wingdings.

There are a couple of exceptions: the open Window Labels on things like Control Panel, IE8, Yahoo Messenger are fine.

Did uncheck the 256 color option and shut my computer down. when I started it looked good until Window XP Start Up screen came up. The fonts were messed up.

Do not have a clue as to what to do. I can't see labels on any thing. My pictures are ok, but I do not know what Icon matches what panel.

Please advise.

You may use your personal e-mail signature to choose default font in windows live hotmail...

In the options menu, select "more options" and then "personal e-mail signature". Choose the desired font style, size and color and type the phrase "text here". Save changes.

Now all you have to do, when writing a new message or a reply is highlight the phrase "text here" and start typing. It's that simple!

Hey all,

I just ran C Cleaner on a computer like I have done a hundred times and for some strange reason, the fonts displayed in Word are larger then the selected font size. When you create a document or send an email, the document when viewed after saving or the email appear in the correct size. Looked in options but all font sizes are set correctly for both. Draft font is not selected either.
I have to believe this is a setting as C Cleaner will change some of your Word settings back to the default (drawing canvas, allow starting in reading layout) but can't find and have never seen this.

Any ideas?

Hello there!

I was wondering if there's any way to change the font color of file names under Windows XP. For example, in a folder with 20 pictures I'd like to have the names of 5 pictures in pink and 5 in blue, the rest can stay black. That way it'd be easier for me to mark certain pictures.

If anybody knows how to do something like that please let me know.

Hello sevenforums! I have a problem with my computer i recently purchased. Here is my story.

This all started whenever I wanted to change my text size different by changing my DPI settings. What I did was right click, go to screen resolution, and clicked on "Make text and other items larger or smaller". From this I changed it to 100% from 125%. I noticed it had changed my font size to the 100%. It then made everything SUPER small when I changed my theme settings.

Whenever I right click and go into personalization settings, I do the usual customizing to my likings. Since I want to save the theme, I do so by naming it, blah. Now I want to use the blah theme by click on it, and I do so. Everything is fine and dandy until I right click my desktop to refresh(out of habit). This is the before and after of the font sizes.
Before
After

My workaround was to set a custom DPI setting, log off like it prompts me to, then changing it back to 100%, again prompting to do so. It is so annoying to do so.

Help me! It is driving me crazy and I have no idea how to fix it. I cannot save a theme and change to it, otherwise it results in the small font. It affects all the fonts soon afterwards. Like google chrome will be fine until i exit and restart the program. Then a super small font follows.

I am trying to help friend out that just migrated from Outlook Express on Windows XP to Windows Live Mail 2012 on Windows 7 Home Premium x64. She has trouble reading the from and subject lines after the client marks them as read. I am aware of how to change the default font settings for the compose window and it is easy to make the text bigger in the reading pane but I haven't had much luck finding any suggestions on how to adjust the size or color of the text in the message list.

I have already done a few things to make things easier: I have decreased the resolution which makes the text a little bigger; I have set the DPI setting to 150%; I also went in the Windows Color and Appearance Settings in the the control panel and increased the default font size for menus, message boxes, and title bar to 14 hoping those settings might affect the fonts in WLM but no luck. I can drop the resolution a little more(it is currently at 1600x900 on a monitor with a native 1920x1080 resolution) but I am worried that if I drop the resolution too much lower that I may create more problems than I solve.

Are there are any other settings I am missing that would help? Short of using the screen magnifier or dropping the resolution further I am not sure what else I can do to make Windows Live Mail easier to read. The only other alternative I can is to find another mail client where I can adjust that font to be significantly larger. I could do that but that is something I am trying to a... Read more

Hey guys

I just have one question about installing XP on a HD. Well I recently got a new HD (300GB WD) and it's currently on a drive enclosure. When I try to write something to the HD it goes pretty slow (2GB file in 50 mins). So I decided that I should move the 300 GB HD to my computer and bring my old 20 GB HD to the drive enclosure.

So, my question is... Is there any way of installing XP on the 300 GB HD with removing the files on it and making the 20GB HD just secondary storage?

A:Changing Main HD

Since you've got a Western Digital drive:

Copy any data from the 300GB drive to the c: drive (just make a folder for it)

Shut down, mount the 300GB drive as the master, and the old drive as its slave.

Use the Western Digital software (boot to the CD that came with the drive) to format the 300GB driver, and then to copy the entire 20GB drive to the 300GB drive.

Shut down, mount the 20GB in the enclosure, and boot to the 300GB drive.

You need to tell Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders and show system files.

Open Control Panel, Folder Options.
Click on the View tab. Select Show hidden files, folders and drives.
Uncheck Hide Extensions for known filetypes.
Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (Recommended).

Try to check your zoom factor. And also make sure you reset the font settings/style via the menu options when this occurs.

Yes I realize this is a very dumb question XDD. I still need an answer.

I've went to -->Properties-->Display and still can't find where you specifically change the font colour on the desktop.

A:Changing font colour on the desktop

- and I'm using Windows XP Home Edition if that changes anything.
