Comodo Configuration question

Q: Comodo Configuration question

I just completed the download for the COMDO antivirus program and each time open  my computer I'm greeted with a huge pop-up box that reads:

"A CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN CAN NOW HELP YOU CONFIGURE IT FOR FREE. LIMITED TIME OFFER. CALL 1-888......"

I'm wondering if this is for real......does it really need to be configured to my computer, or is this simply a bait tactic to try to sell me something.

And if this is simply bait, is there a way to block it from popping up?

Thanks,

Preferred Solution: Comodo Configuration question

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hi, this may be an obvious question, but i am in the process of setting up comodos free firewall and it is asking me if i want to use comodo secure DNS servers. it says doing this will safer, faster internet and it will change my computers primary and secondary DNS settings to 156.154.70.22 , 156.154.71.22. i just wanted to know what effects this change would have and if it is a good idea.
thanks.

Based on the reviews on this forum, I've switched from ZoneAlarm to Comodo.

I think my Firefox on Vista was having trouble with ZA.

Also, I'm tired of all the popups.

So I got Comodo, and set it up with Proactive Defense Plus.

I figured that the popups would come, I'd close them, and they wouldn't ever popup again.

But it seems that upon reboot it looses track of all the ones I've approved, and asks me all over again.

I want good protection, and don't mind an occasional popup, but is there an optimal setup for that?

Thanks!

A:Best Comodo Firewall Configuration

It sounds as if the box to remember your action may not have been ticked when you answered the pop-ups.

Proactive is the best configuration if you don't mind a few queries. That would catch everything.

Comodo ver 6 - Not happy with configuration & installation
Had some trouble with Comodo today. Windows 7 64 bit. I noticed my laptop was slow and cmdagent.exe was consuming an inordinate amount of cpu. I decided I would download and install latest version of Comodo firewall. Process did not go well. I would appreciate feedback as to what went wrong, and would also appreciate comments on Comodo Firewall version 6 that I talk about below.

(1) Downloaded latest installer from Comodo.com - 127MB - by clicking on link "Comodo Firewall" on Comodo home page, and downloading from the next page by clicking on "Continue - Firewall Free Download".
(2) Disconnected from Internet
(3) Uninstalled current running version of Comodo
(4) Rebooted
(5) Made sure that C:\Program files\Comodo was empty in order to get ready for next install
(6) Run installer from #1 above
(7) Installer installed Dragon browser, Geek buddy, and Anti-error, then when installing the firewall, the installer hung when it reached 81%. Let it sit there for 81% - HUNG FOREVER.
==> By the way, I am ANNOYED that products were installed (Dragon, Geek, Anti-error) that I never asked for. I just wanted the Firewall and nothing else.
(8) Killed the installer.
(9) Rebooted and made sure Windows Firewall running, & reconnected to Internet
(10) Uninstalled Geek Buddy
(11) Rebooted & made sure that C:\Program files\Comodo was empty and no Comodo products running.

Hello All,

This is just a heads-up regarding a vulnerability with Comodo 8.2.0.4508 and the antiexecutable (AE)\default-deny (DD) configuration.

Currently, some installers - standard, portable, archived self-extracting, etc - can by-pass the AE\DD configuration.

I have an active Bug Report reported on the Comodo forum that fully documents the various issues.

https://forums.comodo.com/bug-repor...ings-rules-t110645.0.html;msg804007#msg804007

We'll have to wait and see what happens.

In the meantime, I suggest anyone using the Comodo AE\DD configuration to supplement it with VooDooShield, NoVirusThanks Exe Radar Pro or AppGuard.

VooDooShield has a freeware option with settings optimized for most users and NVT ERP betas are freeware as well. Both can be downloaded from the respective vendor threads at Wilders Security: www.wilderssecurity.com .

If you have never used antiexecutable before, then VooDooShield free will probably be a good start. NVT ERP also has training mode and can be learned with just a bit of time and effort. AppGuard is paid and can require extensive configuration to get some apps to work correctly in "Lock-Down" mode.

VDS, NVT ERP and AG are super-light on system resources... I'm a huge fan of AE\DD and think everyone should use one.

Best Regards,

HJLBX

Each user will be assigned access for certain folder or files and certain applications, like internet explorer.
And all usb ports and dvd drive will be blocked. Only the admin will be allow to have full access.

So i need to do something that allow ( managers) to monitor employees activity on the system during working hours.

On one pc is windows xp pro on the other os windows 7 home premium.

Any idea how i can acomplish this task?

I.was thinking of group policy on both computers but on home premium there is not group policy.

Also the users will be using almost all the same programs and files just the with different information.

Thank you in advance.

But for Windows 7 Home Premium you will not have the
Local Security Policy so you may need to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro for that.

This is easier to control with a server like Windows Server 2003 or 2008.

I just recently downloaded the free Comodo virus program and the reviews suggested that I un-tick the option to enable the Comodo secure DNS during the installation process because the Comodo DNS could cause some of my computer features not to work.
Well.....during the installation process I blew on by and forgot to un-tick this feature and guess what?.....some of my computer features are not working. I tried to print a document and a pop up announced that the DNS would not allow access to my printer.

My question now is.....how can I go in and disable the DNS feature of Comdo? I have looked around in the system and can't seem to find a way to do this. Or, should I just do an uninstall and reinstall it?

In Comodo is one screen that has me totally stumped. It's some sort of a potentially-unsafe file list. Help isn't helping me. If a AV update comes in or if I download a file, is such file first put onto this screen and I have to figure out whether and where to move it? How big is this list going to get?
If I sit and just watch the list grow, does it mean AV is or is not updating?
Actually most of those files are some Comodo updates with options to remove, add, move and so on.

I've trialed Comodo before and found it managable, with the exception of this one screen.

So how does it work in the daily grind?

A:One Comodo Question

Hi Tos226, What to do is click on purge and this will delete the no longer viable files leaving just the valid files which can then be added to your safe files. This only deletes the files from Comodo and not from your PC. If you set both your Network Defence and Proactive Defence to Safe Mode you will no longer get these files building up and won't have to bother with them. The safe files list was a way in which Comodo was gathering information for their Anti Virus which I read in the Comodo Forums is now past the Beta stage and will be part of a big update of what Comodo calls the Comodo Internet Security Suite and is due for release by the end of the month. Here is a link to the Comodo Forum where you will find a lot of info on their products.https://forums.comodo.com/index.php

If you have chosen a custom rather than general install I recommend you do a clean uninstall and then reinstall the latest version mentioned above. Unless you are very experienced on PC's install the regular version set the Firewall and Defence+ to train with safe mode and leave it that way. https://forums.comodo.com/index.phpI have had Comodo Firewall Pro on my machine now since version 2 and although version 3 looks complicated it isn't really and in my opinion is the most complete free firewall on the go. Just giving this firewall a test at work. I want to set it so that all computers on my local LAN can connect to my testbox (running Comodo) via remote desktop.

Under Firewall, Network Security Policy, I created a global rule that I thought would do it, allowing access to port 3389.

However, when a client tries to connect, they cannot. On the testbox (running comodo), I'm prompted as to whether I want to allow svchost.exe or not.

Do I have to have 2 rules, one allowing 3389 like above and another allowing svchost?

It seems I can create 1 rule, under Application rules for Svchost.exe from any host, to port 3389. Then my Global rule isn't necessary. So, what's the point of the global rule?

I use Comodo firewall and am pleased with it. When I click on an exe obviously comodos proactive defence pops up to ask for permission for things to run. All nice and secure.

However, I downloaded a PDF viewer ( PDF -XChange, very light, very quick ) which came as an msi file, and whilst running it comodo remained silent.

Is this the norm with msi files?

Is this a security risk that needs addressing?

If bogus apps or malware use the msi extension could they install themselves without triggering comodo?

Defense+ will not give a pop-up if the file has already been analyzed by Comodo and added to the safe list. That is why there was no pop-up. This allows the user to greatly increase security without much of the frustration that would otherwise come with it.

I have Comodo internet security 2012 on my XP-sp3 laptop.Been using the Comodo paid version for about 1 1/2 years with no problems. This weekend the cmdagent.exe became a resource hog.Google search shows that as a not an uncommon problem. In task manager every now and then it will go to 99 and use 100% CPU. I read one article that basically said that if it tries to do an update and fails it kind of loses it's mind and just keeps trying. Not constant but every now and then everything pretty much hangs up.
Pretty sure it's not malware. Have run MBAM, SAS ( Although I guess SAS 4. is no longer updated?)Comodo virus scan, and ESET online scanner. All come up clean. Also ran TFC by old timer.
Now my question. If I do nothing will this just self correct after a while? As this is the paid version of CIS I believe I can contact them for a fix. Just hoped that there might be a quicker "slap up side of the head" type fix.

So my question is.

If a person sets up the firewall in Comodo IS, using CS settings from the CF settings video.

Then you end up with the same protection, as setting up the Fire Wall in Comodo Free Firewall.

But you get antivirus support although, not a really good one... Is this right?

As of the moment I use FileASSASSIN http://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.php to remove files that Unlocker cannot remove. Is there anything out there like FileASSASSIN..?

I know of only two more namely:

LockHunter http://lockhunter.com/

Unlocker http://www.emptyloop.com/unlocker/

Thanks guys

A:Quick question : Undeletable Files how-to with Comodo etc

unlocker always works for me. Another one is
IObit Unlocker

Issue 703 - google-security-research - Comodo: Comodo Internet Security installs and starts a VNC server by default - Google Security Research - Google Project Hosting

A:Comodo: Comodo Internet Security installs and starts a VNC server by default

LOL...

I knew there was a VNC associated with GeekBuddy, so I never installed it.

Even with the fix - don't install GeekBuddy - nor Chromodo, Dragon or Ice Dragon; a user doesn't need any of them.

A lot of the controversy associated with the above due to dodgy practices.

Other than that, COMODO Internet Security is decent security soft using Proactive Security at default settings.

Hi guys, some quick questions about LAN IP configuration:

I have a DSL modem has an ethernet port, and a USB port, to allow for a second computer to connect to the internet. However, I have a netgear 4 port switch LAN/WLAN router, of which I connect one desktop computer to the ethernet port, my laptop using the WLAN, and one computer connected using USB (through modem, not router). Thus, the last computer has a different IP address (assigned by DSL company). My other two computers have IPs assigned by the router, thus, are able to share through Itunes...

...Which leads me to the question: is it possible to configure the ip of my modem-assigned computer to match those of my router's, or vice versa, as I want to allow my Itunes music to be accessible on all three computers. Thanks in advance, and happy thanksgiving.

p.s. I know you're wondering: but you have three more switches on the router, why not use it..well, this last one doesn't have LAN card.

A:ip configuration question

What you should of done is connect all the comptuers to the LAN ports on the router (except the laptop) and share internet connection that way. As far as iTune, you might need to open up the port in the firewall software on your router (check the manual for more details).

Q: "is it possible to configure the ip of my modem-assigned computer to match those of my router's, or vice versa?"
A: No

Network cards are very cheap now, you should use that. Much faster than USB.

This should be simple, but I cannot find details on whether or not this is possible.   What I want (end-state) is a P51 with the 256Gb SSD as the boot drive and the 500Gb spinning drive as the data drive. When I look at the ordering page, I can get both those drives, but there is no way to specify the SSD as the boot drive.  Alternatives are:1. Buy the P51 with just the 500Gb non-SSD, install something like a Samsung 960 EVO 250GB NVMe SSD myself, migrate/reinstall Win10 from the non-SSD to the SSD, and tell the BIOS that the SSD is now the boot drive.Pro - cheaper.Con - more effort and there's always hiccups finding the right drivers.Assumption - the P51 supports the Samsung 960 EVO 250GB NVMe SSD as a boot drive.2. Buy the P51 with just the 256Gb SSD (so it's automatically the boot drive), then buy another 2.5" SSD or non-SSD drive (and the associated caddy kit from Lenovo) and install that.Pro - no reinstall issues.Con - More expensive since I need to buy the larger data drive ($80-$100 and it's free in option 1), plus the Lenovo SSD is about $90 more than option 1. So, can I specify the SSD as the boot drive if I order the P51 with two drives, or do I have to go to alternative 1 or 2? If so, which one is generally recommended? Have I missed something critical? Thanks, ~rick

I just bought a 2GB DDR2-667 for my laptop. I originally had two 1GB DDR2-533. My question is this, should I go for the faster 2GB or slower 3GB option?
Note: FSB speed is 667 MHz.

Benchmarking tools gave me inconclusive results. Any one can suggest a good memory benchmark? Anyways the comparison I got was using Everest.

I have an unallocated 1Mb partition as the first partition (according to Easus) on my laptop drive, in addition to the recommended reserved, system and EFI partitions. Could this extraneous partition be the reason for my inability to restore from an image backup? (Restores fail after making my laptop unbootable)

A:GPT configuration question

No - this partition is only to ensure partitions are properly aligned (especially for ssds).

There is something wrong with your image backup.

Do you have more than one hard drive installed?

I think this is a dumb question but is there any reason my Gigabyte MA790X-UD4P MBO will work at 32 bit but not at 64 bit? If I configure at 32 bit it works fine but when I go to 64 bit it gives me all kinds of strange problems. My OS is Win 7 Home Premium. I want to use 64 bit because I have 8GB of memory. I've tried this several times and can't make it work successfully.

A:MBO configuration question.

Well, it could depend on exactly what "strange problems" occur, so lets start there. Can you give a list of what issues you are having when you try to run Windows 7 64-bit.

Can I add the following ram board to my existing [email protected] with CL2.5?
PC2700 @333mgz with CL3
I have checked with my computer manufacturer and they state that my system will accept 1GB.

A:Ram memory configuration question

If you're existing memory is clocked @ 266mhz than you may indeed be able to use the PC2700 333mhz memory but it will run at 266mhz. It really all depends on your motherboard.

Quick question. When I go into system configuration into the 'Startup' tab, it shows programs that are not on my computer anymore (at least I think). Is there anyway to get rid of these? I follow the file link and can't find them so I believe they are removed. Just wondering how to delete them from the Startup tab.

A:System Configuration question.

Open registry editor and browse to HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Curent Version>explorer>Run. Delete this Run key.

Method Three in OPTION TWO.

Startup Programs - Enable or Disable

I was asked this question in class and I'm not sure if I gave the right answer or not.

Company with 50 (max) different locations.
1 Head Office and 1 Store House
Each location has a static IP address.
Each location has max 13 PCs in the internal network.

Locations need to be able to connect via VPN thus have the same Sub Net:
Im thinking (IP) Class B/ (SN) 255.255.255.128 giving me 126 IPs/SN to work with just in case all locations connect to one location at the same time.
Q1: is this SN a good choice?

For the internal network at each location:

Internet

Router
Public IP (Static)
Private IP 172.16.0.1 / SN 255.255.255.128

Firewall with 2 NIC
Router facing NIC IP 172.16.0.2/ SN 255.255.255.128/ GW 172.16.0.1
LAN facing NIC IP 172.16.0.10/ SN 255.255.255.128/ GW 172.16.0.2
Hub/Switch
Data Server IP 172.16.10.1/ SN 255.255.255.128/ GW 172.16.0.2
File Server IP 172.16.10.2/ SN 255.255.255.128/ GW 172.16.0.2

Switch / Switches
PC1
PC2
PC3
Etc
IP adds 172.16.20.x/ SN 255.255.255.128/ GW 172.16.0.2
Q2: Is this the right configuration? If not what should I change?
Q3: Recommended OS for Firewall, Server 1 and Server 2.
Q4:Recommended hardware for Routers/Switches

Appreciate you taking the time to help me out.

I'm a Netscape user from before there was an IE and when Bill Gates was saying the internet was a fad that mass interest in it would pass.

I have used Netscape 7 for quite a while and downloaded version 8 today. I am trying to customize the tool-bars. I would like to move or re-move Google, Security Center, etc. on the navigation bar.

I would also like to remove the add-bookmark item from the personal tool-bar.

Does anyone know how to do this?

A:Netscape 8 Configuration Question

Alex,

It doesn't look like the Google search field can be removed.

To remove the Security Center and Bookmark items from the toolbar, go to View > Toolbars > Customize. Then drag the unwanted item from the toolbar to the customize window.

If I find a way to get rid of the Google search, I'll repost here.

I have about a dozen HP T5325's in my network.  We have recently put XenApp 7.5 in place.  I am unable to configure a connection on the 5325's.  When I choose Citrix ICA, it wants me to choose Server/Published App, the type of protocol, etc., and the connection won't work with those settings.  Choosing the XenApp connection, it's using the PNAgent, and that's not working either. I have an abundacne of HP T5565's/T510's, and those all work great with Firmware 4.4 or later.  I just choose Citrix, put in the URL, and go, and it works. I did go download the latest firmware for the 5325 and install that, but I already had that, so that didn't help. What I'm wondering is, is it possible to make the 5325's work?  If so, what do I need to download, or how does the connection need to be configured?

A:HP T5325 Configuration Question

Hi Did you ever find a solution to this as we have the same issue? We have tried a few things but doesn't look good! Looks like we will have to replace all of these devices. Thanks

Can McAfee Virusscan enterprise 8.7i schedule a scan without ePolicy Orchestrator?
I finally got it the way I want it except the virusscan console Full Scan and on-demand
scan properties have the schedule button grayed-out. I only see Administrator from the
Windows XP w/ sp3 login screen in safe mode and it has no password. I didn't get ePolicy
Orchestrator with my McAfee install and there is no Hub or Server here so I guess I am
the Administrator. I set up this machine and gave the user I set it up with administrator
privileges, This is XP Home so I have no users and groups button in my Manage MSC.
Am I out of luck, or will I just have to either get ePolicy Orchestrator or run on-demand
scans manually, when I am about to be away from the machine? Thx paj692

A:How to (McAfee configuration question)

I installed McAfee Enterprise 8.7i on my XP Pro (w/ SP3) and ran the setup using "Run
as" Administrator. I had to set up a password for the Administrator account so the
program would run, but with XP Pro, that is no problem. The schedule button is not greyed
out like it is on the XP Home (w/ sp3) system using the exact same installer. I did not
install it using "Run As" the Administrator Account. I'd like to, but the problem is this; I
can't run the installer from safe mode since the installer service is not running and I get
this error when trying to run in regular mode (Run As Administrator). Unable to log on:
Logon failure: user account restriction. Possible reasons are blank password (That's not
it!), logon hour restrictions, (probably not it) or policy restriction has been enforced. Any
body know a work around for this. It would be good to know how to run something in XP
Home as the Administrator without having to go into safe mode. paj692
