Changing Display of Installing GPOs

Q: Changing Display of Installing GPOs

Morning everyone,

I am working with Windows 7 Professional 32-bit, in a network environment and I am trying to test it with our old GPOs we use on XP machines.

I am currently trying to install GPSI's such as Office etc.

When I reboot the machine after a GPUpdate I can only see 'Please Wait' while it installs the updates, but I know some of these updates will hang. I won't know what's hanging if I can't see what stage of the update it is at.

Is there anyway of customising this area of the startup to display which updates are installing?

Like in Windows XP where the box would appear in the middle of the screen saying "Installing Managed Software <Program Name>" etc.

Thanks for any help you can give regarding this.

Preferred Solution: Changing Display of Installing GPOs

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Changing Display of Installing GPOs

The answer to this I have since found out is to enable 'verbose' messages - we did this through a GPO on the domain controller. Can now fully see what is installing when loading Windows.

Hello everyone, As described in the title, I have an issue with my Yoga 720 15" with the GTX1050 and external monitors. The external display disconnects whenever I launch a game in fullscreen mode or when I change and apply display settings in Windows 10 (for example when I change from extend to pc screen only and then back to extend). Basically whenever the screen has to turn black and reload new graphical settings. The only solution then is to replug the HDMI cable on the monitor.  I have tested this with multiple monitors and TVs as well as different types of connections such as usb-c to HDMI cables and usb-c hubs with integrated HDMI ports. Graphics drivers are all up to date.  Can anyone help me out here?

I have a new GPO that only one security group can get.  What I am running into is if I login to a computer I have login to before I do not get the policy.  If I login to a computer for the first time I will get the policy.
Has anyone ever had this problem before?

Is there a way I can punch up a simple batch file script and get it to setup Group Policy Objects on client workstations? I can use the GUI GPEditor if I had to, but I think after about 25 machines, I'd get a little tired of it, and I'm looking to run this on about 400 machines.

I'm pretty new to Group Policy Management. I just got a job at a school and one of my labs is not working like it should. I have done GPRESULT on a computer from another working lab and I'm comparing it to the computer in the lab I'm at now. So, in my
GPM, a couple polices are listed above my designated labs that should be inherited by all the labs, and then I have some of those same policies duplicated in just my troublesome lab. My question is, will having a duplicate GPO break things? I'm probably not
explaining all that right, but I'll try my best to answer any questions to help me find a solution.

Bit of a pickle, this one, chaps.

We have a windows 2003 server, with active directory installed, as well as DNS and DHCP services.

Let's say we have a main forest on our domain, called domain.kais - and within this domain, we have two Organisational Units, called OU1 and OU2. Within each OU, let's say we have 10 users.

Go to Group Policy Editor, and apply a new GPO to say OU1. You make all the settings you want, but for simplicity, let's say the only setting you do is something ridiculously simple, like, remove Recycle Bin from the laptop. You make the GPO called something like "OU1 GPO", link it to the OU, make sure it's the only GPO linked to it (so take away the standard Default Domain User GPO).

Go to a workstation, log on with a user from within that OU. Because you can log on, the assumption is that the network works fine, as the user gets authenticated. To make sure it's not a locally cached user, you created a brand new user within the OU.

So, if that works, any idea why the GPO isn;t taking effect? it's really getting to me now!

A:Windows 2003 Server / GPOs

Well heres a couple of things -

http://www.activedir.org/gp_faq.htm - A nice who what when why and how of Group policies it does mention 2000 and not 2003 but it still applies in most cases.

On the workstation once logged in go to your command line and do a gpupdate /force and see if that yields its results.

Oh yeah and another thought how is DNS running on your network? if you do an ping of a machine name from the clients not getting the update do you get back the FQDN or does it just show the machine name?

I created a number of GPOs and they have been working ok. Edit the GPOs has also been working.
I now can't create any new GPOs or edit the existing ones. I get the below error message.
1. When editing
"Failed to Open the Group Policy Object. You might not have the appropriate rights."
2. When creating new
"The network name cannot be found."

Okay, I really must be doing something wrong, but I don't think I am. We just recently moved to Windows 2000 and I am trying to set up GPOs in our domain. What I did was created a new OU for the domain. In this OU, I created a few OUs for various groups of computers (different PC labs we have), and OU for "students" and and OU for "faculty". I then moved the necessary computers into each computer OU and then placed the student global group and faculty global group into their respective OUs.

From here, using AD Users and Computers, I right click on an OU (Student OU for example) and choose the Group Policy Tab. I create a new GPO, choose to enable "Disable Control Panel" and then rename the GPO and close it out. I tried leaving it like this and did not work.

So I then clicked on the properties of the Student Global Group located inside the Student OU and chose the security tab, where I chose for the student global group READ and APPLY GROUP POLICY.

Still, did not work!!!

What am I doing wrong?? Is there something else I should be looking at??

The same goes for GPOs I set up for any of the Computer OUs, like enabling the option to "Not show the last logged on user". No GPOs are effective right now.

Thank you all so much in advance!!

In trying to adhere to the disable Dr. Watson crash dumps STIG, I need to locate which GPO setting that disables the crash dumps. I'm aware of the ways to disable the createcrashdump in the regisrty or deleting the AeDebug registry key. However, I have a GPO that is enabling the crash dumps. (I know this because everytime I manually disable it and refresh my group policies it is re-enabled.)

I've been able to isolate which GPO is enabling the crash dumps by unlinking all my GPOs and re-linking them one by one to locate the culprit. I've manually looked through the policy settings of the GPO enabling the crash dumps and can't find anything that would disable the create crash dumps. I was wondering if anyone knew off hand how to disable the Dr. Watson crash dumps or disable Dr. Watson completely through a Group Policy Setting.

I'm all googled out on this one. Any assistance would be great thanks.

Hi All,

I have a Windows 7 Enterprise Ed laptop which does not applies the computer GPOs. User GPOs work fine.
In the event log, Event ID 1125 is logged:
?The processing of Group Policy failed because of an internal system error. Please see the Group Policy operational log for the specific error message. An attempt will be made to process Group Policy again at the next refresh cycle.?

In the Details tab:
Error code 19, ?The media is write protected?

When I run ?gpupdate /force? or ?gpupdate /target:computer? After a long time, I get the message: ?Computer Policy update has not completed in the expected time. Exiting??GPRESULT /H GPReport.html gives: ?ERROR: Access Denied? (run as local administrator)RSoP.msc: ?The RSoP snap-in was unable to generate the RSoP data due to the error listed below. Details: This operation returned because the timeout period expired?

The laptop is part of a large domain (more than 10k clients). This is the only one with this error (for as far as I know?)
Any help would be much appreciated.

So I was installing windows xp on a dell 4300, I was basically done when suddenly the monitor went black and said it can't display the content (dell E207WFP), anyways, I tried some other old 15" dell monitor lcd, same problem. I am repairing the installation now, but I have no idea how to fix the problem if I can't see the screen. I have other computers at my disposal, but since I have no idea how far along the setup is (it is close to done, I think just setting up the accounts left). Please Help!

A:Installing windows XP, Display cannot display content

I work as a support analyst at Dell headquarters, and saw that you could possible use a hand.

Are you using onboard video on this system, or does it have a video card? Can you see the Dell splash screen when it first boots up? If so, hit F8 a few times as soon as the screen goes black from that to see if you can get into safe mode. If you can, you may have a driver problem.

Worst case scenario is a blown video card. If your other systems have video cards as well, you might swap video cards with this one and see if the problem follows the card.

My Display Setting have started to change themselves on their own. My standard Resolution is 1920x1200 and my colors is 32 bit. At start-up my screen looks like a photo negative. The Resolution changes to a lower resolution or the Colors change to 16 bit, or both. This just started a few days ago. No new system changes/additions or use of Safe Mode recently. Sometimes the screen resolution will look weird and grainy as it is starting up but once start up is complete everything goes back to normal, sometimes it stays messed up. I've run a virus scan, got the most recent Windows Updates. My NVIDIA video card driver is a GeForce 8400M GS with version I've tried updating that and Windows says it's already up to date (even though Windows online will list the most up-to-date video driver as 8.17....I try to update it to the 8.17 and it just says I'm up to date. Hi everyone,

I feel like a complete fool . The monitor to my computer was working fine but for a refresh rate problem. I located the correct driver online and installed it, but there was no option to change things on the display>advanced>monitor window. I then resorted to changing other settings and in the process must have switched off a hardware option as when I restarted, the monitor only displayed the XP loading page... nothing bewond this... this problem has persisted ever since.

I have tried to investigate the bios for any clues, but all the changes I have made have not made a difference. Does anyone know what is going on? Is there any way I can change the settings. I tried to run off a spare hard drive, however, the same problem occurs.

A:No display after changing settings

sorry, correction: it worked with another hard drive (connected the old one by mistake forst time). I entered under safe mode and with last known settings that worked. The monitor displayed correctly after this... even after restart under normal mode . Has the problem been fixed permanently?

This still leaves me with my original problem. I have installed a sony driver for my lcd display as the screen refresh rate was insufficient and the monitor was running as Default Monitor. After installing the driver, I was expecting to see some more options under monitor settings, but it is still showing as before: Use hardware default setting

Could anyone advise me on how to tell the system to use the information provided in my driver?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. I have an old IBM Thinkpad 390E laptop lying around. It has't been in use for five years or so because its LCD screen is broken (it only has random colors on it when I turn on the computer). lately I decide to start it up and have it connected to a different screen using a VGA connection. The problem is that the laptop is still using its own LCD screen and does not output anything trough the VGA port so I have to somehow switch it to the other screen but without using the screen.
Can somebody please tell me if this is possible and if it is then how do I do it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A:Changing a display blindfolded

Try holding down the Function key (usually has Fn on it) and pressing the F1, F2, F3 etc keys.
One of these combinations should switch between the laptop's own screen and the external one and maybe both screens on together.

Windows x64, 16gig Ram, 256ssd, dual video cards.
We have workstations with 4 or even 6 monitor configurations.  There is 3D software that we use that is giving us fits.  The developers came back to us saying that the primary monitor (1 in Windows GUI) needs to be the monitor we are doing 3D off
of.  The primary monitor (1) needs to come off a specific video card (mainly dual card stations).  It doesn't matter the order in Windows.
I am very familiar with changing the monitor order in Screen Resolution and this won't work.  If I disconnect all the monitors and start with the primary monitor on the primary card, then add the monitors after that, it reverts back to the original
number before I started all my work.
I found a registry key that looked very promising.  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\monitor\Enum has values that correspond with the GUI numbering.  The values on my test station with dual monitors says: Default, 0, 1, Count,
NextInstance.  "0" corresponds with "1" in the Display Settings GUI of Windows.  "1" corresponds with "2" in Windows GUI.  I renamed the keys so that 0 is now 1 and 1 now 0.  Rebooted and the settings
go back to pre-modification settings.
I even tried moving the video card from one slot to another and just turning on the system with the monitor I want as 1 connected.  Once I connected the other moni... Read more

Hi everyone,

In about a month, a group of German students is coming to visit my school and two of them will be staying at my house.

In order to make them feel welcome, I thought I'd make some separate accounts on my computer. After some fiddling, I've found that the way XP does this is completely useless- buries the advanced options way way down (I haven't even found the options for personalized desktop and start menu).

Anyway, I came up with two questions I could not figure out on my own.

First, how can I change the interface language for one account (not system-wide) and make it display every dialogue-if only windows itself- in German? Any instructions I found on the microsoft KB were totally useless and simply did not work the way they were described.

Second, how can I set it so that each user has a separate desktop?

Gidday all. This is my first visit to this forum, so please bear with me.
My problem is like this:
Firstly, this is what I did.
* I setup my desktop background picture and colour scheme by clicking on the desktop and selecting properties;
* I got into the area that allows one to choose the colours for the desktop, windows background etc (all those elementary things that were easy in the anceint versions of windows);
* I chose a custom colour version of "cyan" for my background and use black for the letters. I prefer this combination as it's easier on the eyes than a white background with black letters.
Secondly, I saved everything then selected apply.
So far so good. Works well for awhile. Then in the middle of working on something (even Word) I get the "PLEASE WAIT" window and everything defaults back to the original windows colour scheme. This problem occurs regardless of what application I use.
Has anyone got any suggestions, please? I contacted the tech help guys that set up my machine originally but they couldn't help.

A:Changing appearance of display colour scheme

Hello and welcome to TSF.

A few suggestions to try out while others ponder the possible causes.

1. After making the changes go and right click on the desktop and under arrange icons , choose lock the desktop.

2. Control panel / display / settings/ troubleshooting
lower the hardware accelleration.

3. Right click my computer choose properties (or control panel => system) => advanced => performance => settings
Click adjust for best appearance.

Restart after you have made these changes so that they get hard recorded to the registry hive before anything else tries to use the old settings.

when I boot up windows vista, the default resolution is customized to whatever monitor it is hooked up to.

when it is NOT hooked up to a monitor at bootup, it produces it's own 'default' resolution (for lack of a better word).
i need the computer to automatically boot up in 1600x1200 resolution even when there is no monitor hooked up.
is there a way to do this?

I just bought a new Dell Inspiron 530 with WinXP Home. Everything is working fine ACCEPT, every time I do a cold restart of my computer the Display setting return to 'Windows XP Style'. I keep setting it to 'Windows Classic Style' with a green background and green title bar is individual windows.

In addition, I have the sound set to 'No Sound' so all the beep and bells are shut off, that also reset itself to the default of endless annoying beep and whistles.

Things I've tried so far-

1) I tried creating my own display Theme called 'Green-1'. When the computer does a power-up Start, the Themes display still says 'Green-1' but the display has been reset to 'Win XP Style'. However, the Start Menu and the background color remain as I set them (classic and green respectively).

Note: A warm power-on Restart some will maintain the setting and sometimes will not. But, so far, a cold power-off Start resets to Default every time.

2.) In another forum, someone suggested a Registry change which can be found at -

Under the title -

"Windows XP doesn`t save User Settings"

which makes the following changes -

I am using Windows Mail - Vista Home Basics. I want to change my "display name" that shows up when I send an e-mail to someone. My husband passed away almost three years ago and people are telling me that when I send a message - in the header it shows both of our names.

Any ideas?

So i've built a pc, and after some days I changed the stockcooler, after I changed the cooler I booted up the pc. The pc boots up but some usb ports don't work and it shows no Display. I searched for the problem and some people said it was the motherboard that was damaged, so I did that, bought a new motherboard, built the pc again and the problem was still the same. Can anyone help me solve the problem?

PC specs:

-Ram Memory - 16 GB of Ram Memory

-GraphicCard - Rtx 2070 Super 8 gb

-Power Supply - Corsair RM650x 650W

-Motherboard - MSI B450M Pro-VDH Max

Remove the GPU and use the motherboard VGA and see if you get any display.
