I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,
I want to connect my VCR to the computer to transfer old home movies to DVD.
The Analog to DV device requires a 1 GHz processor. Mine is 498 MHz.

Regarding the speed, will the device work only slowly or not at all?

A:Solved: Video capture device speed vs. processor speed

It is not a matter of slow or not at all. It is most likely a matter of dropped frames. If you have a cheaper video capture card [one without hardware decoding] it will probably work however you will not like the result.

Video editing / encoding is cpu intensive. I would hate to think how long it would take to encode the video file after you capture it [with that cpu]

To give you some idea, it takes me about 15 min to encode approx 1hr of video with an intel dual core cpu. With yours it will be hours.

Just recently I started to have a problem where my processor speed would drop from its usual standpoint (1.9GHz) to this (600MHz). I can't play any games with it all the way down there and I have no clue what is causing it. I have never had this problem before and the only significant changes I have made recently would be a change to Spyware Doctor Antivirus as my main Anti Spyware/Etc program.

I've been a software developer for many years now and I've never really understood 100% how all of these items play into getting the maximum performance (e.g. - moving extremely fast) out of my development machines. I need to get a Win 7 machine for dev. purposes at this point. Here's what I generally have open at the same time on any development machine (windows) that I use:

10 firefox tabs
Excel (2 instances)
Access (2 instances)
A screen sharing program (like GoToMeeting / join.me)
1 youtube video

I'm simply amazed at how slowly all of this runs on my current machine that is Vista 64-bit, Pentium dual-core 2.6GHZ, 6GB RAM. My machine is 4-6 years old now so the motherboard could possibly be the issue. Hard drive too.

But my question with all of that said is, what would be someone's advice here for me that needs a development machine of Win 7 simply for the purposes of testing development copies of software? So it has to be bare bones. Nothing more. What kind of absolute minimum specs would you guys say I should look for?

A:question about RAM, Processor Speed and Video Cards (combination)

Hello ajet mate you have just outlined - in my mind anyway the reason - Vista and old processors.

A good source of info is to Google Wikipedia and read through the refs in it for CPU's RAM etc etc

Undoubtedly you will get a flood of info here too but that is my two cents worth
PS You could look at some of this.

Hello All:

I have many questions and concerns on fixing my Acer Laptop 5570Z.

The problem I'm having isn't really a problem, its more of trying to get the most out of my laptop.

I'm running vista business with a Genuine Intel(R) processor running at 1.73GHz. I would like to reach 2.00GHz but not completely necessary. My Video card is a Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family. I have 2GBs of RAM, and a 120GB hard drive with an external hard Drive that is another 120GBs.
Everything works beautifully
I just got a game for xmas that requires my computer to be at least a 3.0 experience level. I'm not a big game player, but i think it would be nice to play when i have time. And i have an experience level of 3.0. This is not the first time that ive run across this problem trying to run a program.

Ive talked to Acer and they are working on finding me a number so i can possibly change my processor. I've toyed with the thought of over clocking my CPU, but very worried about that.

The error code that i get is insufficient resources

Is it possible that the reason the game wont work on my laptop is because that my video card is worthless? When i look in my device manager i go to the that has sound, video and game controller there is only and audio driver there. Nothing else.

Is there anything that i can do to get this game to work? Anything that i can do soup my computer up to make these kind of programs run?

If any one needs any more informatio... Read more

I used to run games like skyrim or team fortress, with decent definition with no lag , now I cant even run it, its very slow, cant even play it, even when watching streaming video online, its lagging out

I have the minimum program running in backgroup, I recently did a format, I try to keep it simple on it , most settings on performance

Any idea how to improve this ? Id like to play games and run them smooth, my budjet is a bit limited and my skills

I need to order a new desktop for my office to replace a 3 year old machine that runs at 3.2 Ghz. The new machines that Dell offers only has this option:

Intel® Core™2 Extreme QX6700 (8MB L2 Cache,2.66GHz,1066 FSB)

I don't think there is a standard measuring stick that is used to compare all the processor speeds that I can find or understand. I work with CAD programs that use up a lot of resources and I typically get the fastest available and max the RAM. With all the latest software that I have to install, I need the new machines to run faster than the ones they replace.

Can anyone tell me how this 2.66GHz processor compares to my current machine? I don't have the exact specs for it, this is what it lists on the dell support site for my system - PROCESSOR, 80532K, 3.2GHZ, 1M, 533, M0.

I am going to be buying a new computer in the near future and was wondering if backups, file copying, and defragging will speed up very much?

It seems like that at some point, the drives would not be able to keep up with the processor and faster processors would not be needed for many or even most applications.

I am using a 1 ghz Pentium 3 computer now and am going to get a new 3 ghz computer next.

Also, recently, I read an article about the new dual core Intel chips and that sounds like something that I would like but do not know if they are out yet, and if so, do not know what they are called.

A:Processor speed vs hard drive speed

The main point of having a faster processor is that it runs games smoother, compresses audio and video faster, and so on. These tasks are not particularly dependent on hard disk performance. Nearly all applications will benefit from a faster processor regardless of the speed of the hard disk.

i just bought new laptop and now Wi-Fi keeps dropping every few minutes and the download speed is low
with old laptop i'm getting 13Mbps down and 9Mbps up speed while with new laptop getting barely 2Mbps down (note that upload speed i can get 9Mbps also)

so 1) there's no download speed
2) occasionally Wi-Fi drops and reconnects (sometimes needs to troubleshoot to fix) 3) when running troubleshoot to fix Wi-Fi, it is giving that there was problem with wireless adapter or access point (which it fixes till next drop).

i've tried to search Your forum and others but dont seem to find person who has all the problems at the same time as mine

also the speed under connection status does not go under 54 Mbps

A:Wi-Fi keeps dropping and low download speed

Do not be fooled with your connection status information, this is the sync speed with your access point (practically means if your router was the internet those Mbps would be your speed.

Secondly, your download speeds, how are you measuring these? Remember MBps does not equal Mbps.

Thirdly, do you have all the latest drivers for your wireless network card (if you go to Control Panel > Device Manager > Network Adapters, you will find an item which will typically say Wireless on it - open this up and choose properties and check the driver version, google for the latest version or ask here)?

How far away is your router and do you have any electronic interference near your router or between you and it: this can be something simple like an older television, a radio, flourescent light fittings, telephone cables/faxes?

I got this two situations about downloading files from the Web: When a file is coming from a minor site, the download vary from 1KB/sec to 5KB/sec. But my main doubt is about when I download files mainly from official companies sites, like Zone Alarm, ASUS, NVidia, and others, the download starts with the incredible rate of 200KB/sec and then goes dropping to about 32KB/sec and stabilizes at this rate until the end of the download. I want to know why it can't keep the download at the initial rate? I also did once a setup of my Ethernet card, that make the download rate start slow and then raise. Why is that?

In these cases, I could noticed that these situations happened no matter the size of the file.

My Internet is radio-transmitted to my condo, and connects to a simple Ethernet card, no hubs, no modems, no nothing. My OS: WindowsXP Pro
My browser: Firefox 1.0 FR.

So I just reformatted my PC (Windows 7 64 bit) because I had some annoying adware that I couldn't get rid of manually, so I cleaned out the C: drive but left the other two partitions, and everything is working normally but my download speed is extremely messed up. I have all of my drivers downloaded, but for some reason my download speed will start off strong, but then it will drop all the way down to 0/KBS.. and then eventually it will go back up. This is happening on all web pages and also on Steam. I've tested this on both wired connection and wireless. I know that it isn't my ISP because every other computer in the house has the normal download speed, I did an internet speed test and everything is normal, and I've tested a couple of games I've finally gotten downloaded and my ping is perfectly normal like it was before.. I really don't know what it could be. Should I have cleared out the other two partitions? Help me pleasseeee!

I've had this issue for a while, and I've done some research and attempted troubleshooting with little result. Sometimes, seemingly randomly my PC's internet connection download speed will drop down to very extremely low. I should be getting 300mbps, but when this happens I get under 20. My PC Is hooked up with Ethernet. This must be a PC specific issue, as the speed on my laptop and phone are just fine. The only way to increase the speed back to normal is to reboot it, and then eventually it will randomly happen. Sometimes it happens again within a day, sometimes in a week. I'm not sure where else to look and what to do.

I am on Comcast 8MBPS connection with a Terayon TJ715x modem. My modem is connected to a Belkin Wireless G+ MIMO router with PC1 connected via wire and 3 other PCs connected wirelessly. I have been running this way fine for approx. 6 months. Just recently my "Internet" light on my router would start flashing orange periodically about 5 times a day. Restarting PC1 and resetting the modem would usually resolve this issue. Today, PC2 (my PC) began losing connection speed when I open Firefox or IE. If I mouse-over my network symbol on my taskbar, it would say 54MBPS. I would then open Firefox or IE and every few seconds "re-mouse-over" and would watch my connection speed drop down to 48MBPS then 36 MBPS then 12MBPS then 6 then 2, then 1. As soon as I close the browser, my speed gradually climbs back to 56MBPS. I just realized this is not just my web browser, but anything that connects to the web. Even if I refresh my Yahoo! Widgets I lose connection speed. Pages start loading slowly. It's ridiculous and really aggravating. Please help if possible.

Sounds like the router is dying or your ISP connection has problems.

Does this work properly with no slowdown with a wired connection? That would be one of the first things I'd try.

At the beginning of this week, all of the sudden, the FPS on all my games starting dropping tremendously, I have factory reset the laptop yesterday, but the issue is still there. I suspect it might have something to do with the heat because my laptop is always so hot, but the problem is I have an Alienware 17 R3 so it is basically impossible for me to reach my fan without having to disassemble my entire laptop.

The system likely needs a thorough clean out of all dust - and replacement of the thermal compound that sits between the heat slugs and the heat sinks.
If you aren't comfortable with the process, a local shop can do it for an hour or so's labor charge.

It doesn't happen often but sometimes it freezes for a second while loading a certain game which works fine on another day and gives BSOD. Sometimes it happens after I've loaded the game and am in the moment of playing. My hardware is more than enough for the games I run and I even run them on low-mid even though I can manage high settings. The games I usually run are CS:GO, League of Legends and Modern Warfare 3 [rarely play; received 1 BSOD while loading it]

Lately whenever I run games on my Primary Video card anywhere from 30 sec. to several minutes the screen will flash black and then shortly after the frames will drop significantly with the occasional black screen flash.

I've used Gpu-z and Rivatuner to determine that at the first black screen flash the Core clock speed has dropped from 675mhz to 630mhz. At the major frame rate drop the core clock drops to 275, normally the idling speed. As far as I can tell the temperature has nothing to do with it as it has done it while the temp was anywhere from 65 to 74 degrees. The amount of time it takes varies, but older and less taxing games seem to take longer for the drop to occur. Nothing on my computer is overclocked it's all at stock speeds and timings. The secondary card seems to run games without any problems.

I tried a variety of drivers, none of which seemed to make much of a difference. The only other thing I could think of was that I had installed Gears of War right before this happened. I uninstalled the K8 processor driver that it came with and installed the newest driver from AMD's website, but that didn't seem to help. I haven't tried actually uninstalling GoW yet. But I am very tempted to redo my computer to see if it is a software problem... Read more

I do use p2p, but this doesn't appear to be the problem, i can run this for a couple of hours with no problem while surfing, or the connection will drop after 20 mins or so this is completely random. The connection is lost without p2p running also, so i don't think this is the problem.

What should I do?

OK, I've had Embaq 5mb dsl for over 6+months and it has treated me well until fairly recently. For about the past 3-4 weeks my internet speed has dropped very, very low. I go to www.speakeasy.net/speedtest and click on the server closest to me and get speeds such as low as 5kbs ~ 1400 kbs when i use to range from 4,000kbs ~ 5,000kbs.

When this first starting ocuring it would happen for an hour or two. But now it doesn't stop. It has progressed greatly.

I've contacted my ISP several times. The first time they came out the speed was normal but they set me up with a new modem. No more than an hour after he left I had a reduction in speed. After talking to them again they did some things on their end and said it should be fixed. Not the case. After talking to them again they sent an engineer out to look at it. I wasn't at home but my parents were -- saldy, they don't know much about computers. From what I was told by my ISP they put me on a completely different dsl line. Even after completing this I still have very low speeds. I called them once more and they told me the next thing they would do is send somebody out with a laptop and connect to my modem. Hello, I noticed an issue with my  Pavilion G7-2003sm in the last 2 or 3 months. I seem to be getting relatively good frame rates in games, considering the laptops specifications, but it developed an issue. FPS started dropping over time, for example, I am playing Counter Strike: Global Offensive at about 100FPS and after 10-ish minutes it drops below 60. I also start getting huge input lag on my mouse (not really convenient in a first person shooter). I can fix that simply by alt tabing to my desktop and back in the game, but it drops again in a few minutes, so it's a rinse and repeat process which is annoying me a lot. The temperatures are not the issue since I clean and change the thermal paste every 3, 4 months (it gets a lot of dust inside). I am running latest AMD and Intel drivers and the latest BIOS version (F.0A). All the games I am having issues with are legit copies on Steam, so piracy isn't an issue either. Any ideas on this?

I have recently bought a new system and put it together myself for the 1st time. After installing everything and testing games it kept hanging or returning to windows. after searching forums on the i found that if i dropped the core speed from 166 to 133 solved the problem but its not ideal, my processor is running at 2.2 and i'm having trouble with AGPx8. I've installed the newest drivers for everything (although the offical catalyst drivers don't install properly or just don't work, i'm currently using ver3.2 that came with the card. I have tried the Omega 3.9 drivers that installed but cause lockups with Call of duty so i took it off) and even tried installing a bios update (which i'm not sure how it went think it might of failed and the old bios is still on). There was a voltage check program that came with the mobo that showed the -5v to be dropping below its parameters. i've asked around and a tech friend said it was probably my power supply but my IT manager an work said he'd have stacks of HDs running off a 300w psu. I checked the website i bought the case from and 300w is as high as they go.

Any ideas?
many thanks

A:games keep dropping to desktop

300 is kind of edging it for that system....I would go for at least a 350 or 400w power supply.

You don't have to get a power supply from the place you bought it, and ATX power supply will do.

Hello everyone ... I have a problem with this almost about 2 months and still can't figure out how to have static multiplier ... Everytime it drops everything starts to lag in games ... I have an AMD Phenom X3 8450 2.1ghz NO OC cooled by Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro rev. 2 temperatures while Idle 37-39 °C and while gaming 43-46 °C monitored by SpeedFan ... I even turned off Cool 'n' Quiet in BIOS and it didn't help and even in Windows ( I have Xp ) I switched power management to Always ON and didn't helped anything ... I even tryied overclocking programs so i could set my multiplier to 10.5x for having it stable but I couldn't even change that because all the options for managing multiplier were locked for unknown reason ... Please someone give me some more tips because i'm getting hopeless on this

A:AMD dropping multiplier while playing games

It would probably help to know what motherboard you're using.

See if you can find AMD C1E Support in your BIOS and disable it, that might help.

At apparently random intervals into playing some 3D games the monitor goes black. In a couple of seconds, the green light next to the power switch starts flashing (like it's in standby mode).

Occasionally a sound effect will loop 1-2 times before going silent, as if the system were hanging.

The system fans keep running, and the MoBo lights stay on.

Restarting the monitor does nothing - the light goes green, then returns to flashing mode.

Only way i can re-boot is to hold off button in for longer then 4 sec.

Note that I am not overclocking, never have overclocked, and never intend to overclock.

Hi all,
I have windows 7 home premium and internet explorer 9 installed with norton antivirus protection.

My problem.

Since about a week ago i have been suffering from wireless drop out and extremely slow internet in my bedroom via wireless where it used to be good. I tried to update my malbytes earlier and it was still on 0% downloaded after 5 mins before connection cut.
I am writing this in the study where the router is based just to be able to load pages and have a better change of less dropping which it still doing next to the router!

Any ideas guys as this come along all of a sudden and i cant find anything.

Many Thanks

A:Constantly slow internet speed and dropping of wireless connection.

Hi please close thread as it turned out to be the router at fault and now everything is fine again.

Thank you

The problem I'm having is almost any game I play will work perfectly, solid 60fps, no hitching or stuttering, just buttery gameplay, and then in a blink of an eye it will start to hitch terribly and drop frames constantly. This usually occurs after a few hours.

I have reset my BIOS, formatted Win 8.1 and Win 10, ran every benchmark known to man without have a single crash or error (even scoring higher than 80% of people with my setup), tried the last two Nvidia drivers, tested my PSU with a voltage checker, removed overclocks, checked temps which are fine (under 60c for both GPU/CPU) and way more. I have spent countless hours trying to fix this issue over the past week and I'm completely defeated at this point.

Here is my HWInfo while hitching like crazy in Dying Light:

Video of the hitching in Witcher 3 (note my CPU never reaches close to 100% without recording):

If anyone has any ideas on what's causing this or how to fix it please speak up, and if you're experiencing the same issue let me know, maybe we can work out some similarities in our systems.

I'm a novice when it comes to prosor definitions.
Need help.
Bought new desk top, built by PC Club Inc. Paid for a "AMD ATHLON 64 2800+OEM" processor.
At home the system informatin screen stated that we had a "x86 Family 15 Model 12 stepping 0 authenic ~1800 Mhz" processor.
I thought an 2800 processor would be faster and better than a 1800 Mhz procer.
The salesman tells me that the 1800 is better. For some reason I feel we've been had!
Can some one advise me which is the better processor?

i have a notebook with intel pentium 4 3.06, ram 512 hdd 40G
running on xp pro sp 1

my question is that is my notebook running at its peak? coz when i check in my computer under properties,

it shown firstly the processor speed then on the bottom it shown 1.1 Ghz

i m running direct Ac and not from the batt. is there a reason?

A:processor speed on xp pro

Most notebooks use "speed stepping" on the processor to lower the speed until its needed, to save the heat dissipation.

Its likely that a notebook with a 3 GHz processor is actually using a "desktop" processor, and without some such ability to keep it cool it would be too hot to handle, and you could almost cook on it.

I currently have a desktop with a single core AMD Athelon 2.08 GHZ, 1 GB ram running XP. I am planning on using an older laptop in its place. HP NC6400 Intel 1.6GHZ Centrino duo ,3 GB ram running Windows 7. Will I notice a slower performance with the laptop?

A:Processor speed

Judging from PassMark.com benchmark scores.

AMD Athlon XP 2800+ > benchmarks between 400 & 500
Intel Core2 Duo 1.6GHz > benchmarks between 800 & 1100

To answer your question, I don't see any reason why the laptop would be slower. The laptop has two times the CPU performance and three times the memory.

Your FSB is likely set incorrectly. It is likey set at 100, instead of 166Mhz. You should find this setting in the CMOS setting or on the motherboard via jumper settings.

This may be a silly question but this is the place for those - especially for those of us still learning to be true geeks! I have been given the assignment of PC inventory and one of the requirements is processor speed. Is there an easy way to determine this without kicking the user off and rebooting and doing F10 during reboot? These are mostly Windows 95 and 98 machines so we don't have the luxury of Windows 2000 system manager. Thanks for your help!

A:amd processor speed

Check your fsb setting. It probably defaults to 100. You need to set the fsb to 133 it will then read correctly. Check the manual; it will have instructions on how to set bus speed.
If this is a computer you purchased, why not take it back to where you bought it from and have them correct the problem. After all if you pay for something, you have a right to expect that it will work as advertised.
