Preferred Solution: Problem activating

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Most laptops do not have to be activated if they came with windows 7 pre-installed on them.
If you installed windows on your laptop from another disk, then you could be mis reading the activation codes.

You might want to try your laptop manufacturer for the correct code if yours is incorrect.

when i turn my computer on without SLI it just starts out fine. however once it is on, after the windows opening/loading screen my screen just goes black and losses signal from the PC.

And another problem is that my pc's lan card doesn't appear in the device manager. it is weird it was there before. all that appears on the network is 1394 besides that there is nothing else.

please post your comments if you know what's going on with my PC. thanks

A:Problem when activating SLI

SLI has a couple of caveats:
1. You can not run dual monitors with SLI activated. If you're running dual monitors then you ned to turn one off.
2. You must have the monitor plugged into the video card installed in slot 1, only, when SLI is enabled. This is also the single card slot and is the one closest to the CPU.
3. If you have different BIOS in the cards then you must run the latest Nvidia Drivers.

Hope this helps

Hey guys,
So, I bought this new computer and it came with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits, with 30 days of activation.

Now, I want to activate it and I have a MSDN account, wich provides original keys for microsoft products.

The problem is, even if I get one of those keys, my windows 7 says it is not valid.

Any guess on how to fix it?

I tried the keys for x64.

I recently got a new computer and while reformatting my hard drive and reinstalling Windows XP I had to go do something and asked my roommate to watch my computer while it was installing. He went ahead and finished the instal for me and put his info in instead of waiting for me to come back, which I had already registered this copy of XP, so when I went to activate it. it said it had been activated too many times for the license. Now Windows won't load until I buy a new license......does anyone know how I can uninstall this version of XP and go back to my old version of 98 and then reinstall it with my info?

I deactivated IE11 a while back, using the "turn windows features on/off" menu. Now, I need to reactivate it so I can fix the temporary internet files folder to fix an error with downloading apps from the store. However, I can't seem to reactivate IE11. When I check the box to turn it back on and press OK, nothing happens. If I open up the window again, I see that the box is not checked.

Is there a way I can fix this without reformatting?

Thank you!

Hi, I bought two refurbished Siemens Fujitsu lifebook about a year ago. They both have windows seven but one has since upgraded to windows 10. About four months ago
one of them start getting a pop-up saying you may be a victim of software counterfeit. It asked for my product key, as it is a refurbished laptop it wasn't on the machine. So after a while of trying to figure out my product key I got it. I entered it and  it
said "A problem occurred when Windows tried to activate. Error Code OxCOO4FO74, For a possible resolution, click More Information. ". When I clicked More Information it said this
?Code OxCOO4FO74 Description: The Software Licensing Service reported that the computer could not be activated, No Key Management Service (KMS) could be contacted. Please see the
Application Event Log for additional information. ? I have tryed a million times and this is all that comes up. I have looked up this error code but to no avail.
I don't believe the software is counterfeit as I bought two at the same time
and one is running perfectly.  Please help me find a solution to this as every hour I get an annoying pop-up that resets all my settings(homescreen, background etc.)
If any other information is needed I will be glad to give it.

. Even if the first chracter i enter is happens to be one of these I get the same error ..Cant understand why it is happening ...? It is my first installation with this key which i got from my college. Any help Please...

Like you noticed youself, the characters you specified are indeed not used in license keys. If those characters are present in your license key, you should consult with the source you got them from.

Hello All,
Here is my dilemma with activating Windows:
I activated Windows xp about a month ago but just recently it said I have to activate it again.
But each time I click "okay" to activate it again, it takes me to the blank windows desktop of mine and I get a message saying "Windows is already activated" and it kicks me to the log in screen where it gives me the notification to activate windows, again. And when I click "okay" (again), the same thing repeats.
I am stuck in this eternal loop.
I am using a MacBook Pro 15 inch using BootCamp to use windows if that information helps at all.

In advance, thanks for the help

Reinstalling is not an option for me because I am on vacation and I left the installation CD behind.

A:Problem with activating Windows

Hi, To use Boot Camp you must use a valid Windows Product Key, that is, one that has not been installed before you put it on the Mac

Valid means a Product Key that has not been activated at any other time.....unless, it was the full Retail version, in that case, you can install it on successive locations, using it on one at a time.

Where did the copy and Product Key come from that you are trying to use? , It sounds like the computer is using the 30 day grace period allowed if you do not Activate Windows at the time of installing.

I'm trying to fix my Dad's laptop here and having some problems. His hard drive died on him, so I replaced it. The computer came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit on it. Thats also the only OS Sony's website has drivers for, that OS. It actually has Windows XP drivers as well. The sticker on the bottom is rubbed off almost completely, I can hardly read the code but I think I got it. Now most Windows 7 Product keys on new PC's are blue and white the label itself that is. This one looks like it's a Windows Vista or maybe XP? The laptop was bought a year ago, so I couldn't imagine it being XP. It also has a windows 7 sticker on it. Well I installed Windows 7 and the product key didnt work, I tried it changing all the letters I wasn't sure of, couldn't gt it. Installed Vista, but I cant find drivers for it at all. The thing that gets me, it does not look like a Windows 7 key label at all unless older ones came in blue green and red like Vista's and XP.

Any help/advice would be great.

I own and used to use win 7 home premium 32 bit.
I bought the ultimate version upgrade and so installed the ultimate win 7 64 bit version I wanted with a fresh install. Now I come to activate it I am having problems.
I put in the upgrade code to activate assuming it would accept after also asking for the home premium key first but no go. I tried putting the home premium code in 1st expecting it would then ask for the upgrade code then accept, also no good.
How can i get my windows to activate please?
In summary how do I get activation to understand I am using ultimate 64 bit version and I have the home premium key and the ultimate upgrade key?

Thank you in advance

A:Problem activating ultimate upgrade 64 bit

You MUST do upgrades from an installed, validated, OS - it's this that the system relies upon to check qualifications, not a previous Key.
You will probably have to reinstall the Home Premium and upgrade properly (i.e. follow the instructions).

You may however, try telephone activation - if you can persude the operator that the install is legitimate, then they can issue an override.

telephone activation (operator calls)
Click on the Start button
in the Search box, type
SLUI 4
and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

Hey guys,

Recently I have upgraded to win10 and this problem wasn't a thing in my win7 PC. The problem is that (sometimes in obviously easy actions for the computer) it freezes, doing nothing and then the screen says: An error have occured, application must close: TDR. It keeps happening every 30 minutes or so, when gaming as well as browsing. The thing that drives me mad is that the computer is doing nothing during the time of freeze and restart. I was (by tutorials) in my registers, and upped the restart time from 2 to 10 secconds, and it didn't do a thing. only longer pause before restart of the graphic card. Any solutions?

Hello,

I just got this Windows 7 Enterprise edition from my brother who studies at an university. The problem is it only lasts for 30 days and if i try to activate it online it gives this error:

8x8007232B

Description:

DNS name does not exist.

I'm using an wireless card called Canyon CN-WF511 802.11g Turbo Wireless PCI Card. The problem could be that it hasn't got the right drivers for windows 7 yet, cause i was only able to download and install the drivers from the official site for Windows Vista..

I also tried the calling activation procedure but the automatic phone said that they couldn't verify the code i gave up, but i don't want to contact with the support cause i dont have a good reason to let them activate it..

So im not sure if it does work, but at least i want to give it a try to activate if via internet.

A:Problem activating Windows 7 Enterprise

When you attempt to activate an enterprise version of Windows Vista or Windows 7...it does a DNS search trying to find the network's KMS (key management server) to activate against. In your case, you likely aren't on a local network with a KMS server so that activation mechanism is not an option.

Therefore, you need to get a MAK key (multiple activation key). Then, when you go to activate Windows 7..you click on change product key and input the MAK key. It will then validate the key and immediately attempt to activate it on the Internet.

angelique01,

Assuming you are connected to the Internet, the activation server may be down for maintenance or overloaded, consequently, the activation agent on your computer is unable to make a connection with the activation server.

Try again. You have 30 days to activate, and after that you will not be able to use your computer without activating. If this happens, you can contact a Microsoft Customer Service Representative to do the activation. I'm not sure, but assume you will need to have the Windows XP Certificate of Authenticity label which is a little sticker on the outside of your PC or stuck to the back of Start Here (blue on front) booklet from the outfit that constructed your PC. There is a number (where n is a decimal digit) in ther format of: nnnnn-nnn-nnn-nnn on the sticker. The CoA label identifies in bold the Windows OS version, e.g. mine says Windows XP Professional for my WinXP Pro SP2 system.

Hello

I just recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit as my second OS. I didn't want to upgrade Vista if there was any problems during installation and it seems I was right. First problem I had was installation didn't want to complete. The computer shutdown right after the first reboot. That I got solved by disabling USB and all integrated devices from the BIOS. Installation went fine after that. Everything went fine from then on until I re-activated everything from the BIOS. After that it goes like this: Windows 7 starts to the desktop and installs drivers for a few seconds and then shuts down. And re-starts and keeps doing it over and over. I disabled my integrated devices and then it stabilized.

The problems seem to be with my integrated devices. My BIOS is up to date and everything else seems to be up to date also. It would be nice to use all the devices I have on my computer. No sound and network sucks.

Thanks in advance.

P.S.
My motherboard is an ASUS P5E and I tested the compatibility with MS own Win 7 tester and no problems were found.

A:Problem: Activating LAN in BIOS causes auto shutdown

Normally if you activate LAN in the BIOS it is "Boot from"

You have an OEM_SLP Product Key from an ACER machine on a DELL computer - which can never legally work anyhow - built almost two years before windows 7 was released.

Please help, I've posted on 2 other forums but no replies and tearing my hair out! Post copied below from other forum:

"""Post 1:
Very quick background, I built a new PC a few months ago. It is running 32bit XP Pro, I have a RAID 0 which my OS and Programs are on, a RAID 1 that my files/data are kept on, and a backup HD that I just keep whacking backups over to.

The problem started a few weeks ago, when Adobe Acrobat started having weird launch problems, to the point where I ended up deleting it, as the only part of Creative Suite CS4 that I don't really use as of now. I can't 100% remember the error, as figured I'd come back to it at a later date.

Next thing to happen, a week or so later, was that iTunes stops working after every turn off / turn on, or restart. i.e. iTunes is set up, all updated and working fine, until I turn my computer off. When I turn it back on again it hunts for some setup file, then says it can't find it, and refuses to open. I have to delete iTunes via Add/Remove, then install it again. At this point, on first opening it, all my music and settings are there fine, but once it's been turned off again same problem. This is a real pain in the *** even more so than usual as I have an iPhone now, so backing up is taking a while each week!

Finally (I think), Office is doing a similar thing - it has been installed since first building the PC and working fine, but now each time I open any Office program aft... Read more

Basically I have having this problem on both computers I want to share. When i type in the ip of the pc I want to connect to, I get the following error:

Then when i press Diagnose I am prompted with the following error message:

So I thought it had something to do with file and printer sharing not being enabled, but when i try to enable it, i get 'RPC Server Unavailable" as below:

***********************************
After searching the net for ages (it seemed like), I have not been able to find a solid solution, I have been told to make sure RPC server is running, which it is, Net TCP/IP helper is running, and when i ping the IP address of the computer, it does comeback with a result, so i know the computer can see it. I am thinking it has something to do with the firewall (which i should mention, i have tried with e firewall enabled, and disabled).

Can anyone shed some light on what could be wrong?

Thanks,
Kaashif

A:Solved: Weird problem when activating file sharing

Ok, here is some more information, when i try to star the net share, by excuting the command "NET SHARE" in dos, I get the following error:
The Server service is not started
Is it OK to start it? (Y/N) [Y]: y

Does this mean anything to anyone?

1. When I open my File menu and click on Save as, and then Save, I keep getting a pop-up message: "This web page could not be saved".
2. I cannot get "View source" to work. The source code will not come up: nothing happens at all. It is IE 5.0 that I am having this problem with. I also have Netscape 4.7, and it works there OK. So I can't understand why it won't work with IE 5.0.

If somebody can help me with one or both of these questions I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Hello Group,

Windows XP, Powerpoint 2007, Window Media Player 9

Created a simple Powerpoint page, with a menu of small graphic icons that when clicked activate a particular video clip.

All works fine, video is activated properly, and when it ends, the media player closes and control is returned to my Powerpoint page.

However, the graphic icon that was just used to activate the video is now turned to all black. Why?

Kisok mode is set to ON so the next user can make their selection. Rewind video at end option has no effect, same behavior whether on or off.

How can I stop this blackening of the graphic icon on the Powerpoint page when the video activated by clicking that icon ends? It is acting like Kiosk mode is not being recognized, as by definition the page must be preserved intact for the next user of the kiosk application.

Hope someone can help. Thanks for looking in. Also posted to Multimedia forum in case the problem is the media player.

Charles

Hello,I am trying to re use Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit which came originally with Alienware laptop, which I no longer use and I want to set the Windows on my new desktop (non Alienware). On windows activation I get the following message:a problem occured when windows tried to activate error code 0xC004E003 (the error code means The Software Licensing Service reported that license evaluation failed).I have tried several options: * downloaded legitcheck from Microsoft but it did not work* tried replacing my product key with cmd / slmgr* called Microsoft they were asking for installation ID which I don't have the option to see, also the product ID I have given them was invalid, they were suggesting to contact you directly and ask for product KEY?I have the original cd, a copy of the product ID and CD Key. The Windows sticker with the product information at the back of the laptop is no longer readable. I could also look for service tag number if needed. Is there any solution to this?Thank you.

A:Re activating old OS (W7 Pro 64 Bit)

The version of Windows 7 which came with your Alienware Laptop is OEM and the OEM license is non-transferable. Dell/Alienware Windows 7 OEM can only be installed on hardware which has the Dell/Alienware Windows 7 OEM license.
Note: Dell/Alienware Windows 7 Pro OEM can be installed on supported new Dell/Alienware hardware which shipped with Windows 8.1 Pro OEM or Windows 10 Pro OEM by use of OEM Downgrade Rights.

So how do I try a different key?

Any Suggestions

Just do it again. I got the same error but then I tried again after and it worked. The problem is just that it is timing out from the servers and you need to get through. So just keep trying.

Hello, I am having trouble activating windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. I bought the computer secondhand and it came with windows 7 already installed. I got a virus and had to format the computer and start a fresh. When it was taking me through the installation it asked for the key so I tried to type in the one that was used before but it wouldn't let me. So I just skipped that step and carried on using windows. Now its asking me to activate windows and when I try to input the code that was used when I first bought the computer it says "Unacceptable Character" when I type the first number. Why is it doing this and how can I sort it out? Thanks in advanced.

Hello, I was reading on a forum if XP is re-installed it is not neccessary to contact MS for re-activation, but to take a copy of file WPA.dbl and install it again.

My query is this, is there such a file for MS Office and use the same procedure as above? TIA.
What would the file name be?

I bought a new Asus laptop today with Windows 7 Home Premium preinstalled, and my cousin (who supposedly happens to be a computer expert) formatted everything and set up Windows 7 Ultimate along with Ubunbtu.

I have downloaded the drivers and everything works fine, but Windows won't activate using the key at the back of the laptop. My cousin has also dumped an ISO image of the disk he used to install (Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, he told me) on my hard disk. Other than that, I have no Windows installation disks or anything.

How can I use my key to activate Windows? I don't need the Ultimate edition, Home Premium will be just fine.

A:Activating using OEM key

You can't use a key from a different version on Ultimate, OEM or otherwise.

Was the installation legitimate or was it something that's been pirated?

All you can do is either purchase Ultimate, or restore with the Asus master DVD...

I have an older drive with windows 8.1 on it, I have copied the key from the OS. This drive was never updated to w10 but is a fully legal activated version of w8.1

I have just put together a new system and figured I could do a clean install of 586 w10 and just plug in the w 8.1 key and be all good for activation. Not so fast, activation will not accept the key.

MS tech on chat line said I would probably need to install old drive, fully update it and then upgrade to w10. That's a boat load of updates considering this drive was taken out the first moment w10 became available.

My question is I guess is there no less painful way to accomplish this?

In one of my recent posts there was some confusion about the need for activating XP Pro. Having previously been told that I did not need to activate my XP Pro, others were telling me that I definately did. This concerned me, so I decided that I better look into this more deeply and came up with this information which I hope may help others in future.

If you bought the full boxed version of WinXP Pro - that one doesn't need
to be activated. The OEM one would ask for activation the same as
WinXP Home does ( even if you buy the full boxed one of that ).

If you got WinXP Pro along with the PC and a CD then that too wouldn't
ask for activation as it's under a Volume Licence Key and that will be
hard coded into the CD. Dell CD's are like that, even the WinXP Home
ones - using that also doesn't ask for activation.

A:Does Xp Pro Need Activating?

as it's under a Volume Licence KeyThe only places I have heard of uses for volume licence keys are in businesses and schools where large numbers of computers are managed. We have such in our school district. I am not sure of the support levels, but our volume Office licensing exempts support due to the cost of purchase.

Hey,

I own a computer that came with Windows 8 preinstalled (OEM version, key embedded in BIOS).
Today I've decided to reinstall Windows, mainly because the upgrade from the Marketplace made it a bit laggy. As a student I have access to the MSDNAA versions, so I downloaded the 8.1.
Now I have two keys I could use -- the one that came bundled with the computer and the other I just "bought". I don't wanna waste the unused key for no good reason, so I was wondering if I could somehow activate 8.1 with the embedded key from 8.

Thanks

hi,
i have a genuine OEM copy of WIN XP (full version - not Upgrade), first installed on this homebuilt PC in 2006 (since then, a new MB was installed by shop in 2010......activation then was positive.)

now i am just wondering, because Microsoft have "washed their hands" for support of their XP OS, would Microsoft be concerned if i installed another new MB using this same OEM XP disc and would/should it activate ?

thanks

Apologies, I'm sure this question has been asked quite a number of times, so please bear with me. ^^'

Anyway, after becoming the victim of several viruses the past few days, I opted to finally pay up for a copy of Norton anti-virus and dump the free versions of ZoneAlarm and AVG. Suffice to say that in between that it involved 2 fresh installs of Windows XP and one Repair.

The first two times, under Service Pack 1 (which is contained on my own Windows XP Prof. CD) Windows allowed the activation via internet. So, at this point, using windows updater, I downloaded all important drivers and updates. Everything fine so far. Then, upon successfully downloading and installing Service Pack 2, and being prompted to do a restart. My internet stopped working, i.e. the network was not being picked up despite everything being connected right.

So, I called my uncle down, who's good with these things, and he suggested it might be something to do with my installation not recognising the network, i.e. the CD being Service Pack 1.
Anyway, he brought his own copy of Windows XP down (SP2) and used the repair function in the Windows installer. And, everything was working good. Internet was back up. Norton installed etc.

Anyway, I thanked him and he went home. Now, the problem:

When I go into Windows activation, I get to the part where it's 'Checking for Connectivity' where at this point it will tell me that Online activation can not be completed at this time, and that I have X d... Read more

A:Activating XP.

There MAY be a difference in license types - one may be OEM and the other FULL (or Upgrade). You would be best phoning MS and getting the activation sorted out. I don't know who suggested to you that phoning them was a lot of trouble (because they are WRONG). If you are having activation problems then MS are the people to talk to.

My problem is that yesterday, when I started windows XP, it appeared a message saying that I have 7 days to activate my windows xp. OK, I put the key, and it said that it was activated. But, today when I've started the computer, it sayd that I have 6 days to activate it. And when I enter where you have to put the key, it says that it is activated. What's the problem? Will I lose windows xp in 6 days? Or I have to trust that it's activated?

Hi there
just a little note --the activation procedure on W7 ENTERPRISE is slightly different from the normal method (assuming you are using an RTM version from Technet etc).

When you install you only get 3 Days and not the 30 before you have to activate if you don't enter a product key when installing (actually I wasn't prompted to in any case).

When you activate you wont't get a prompt to enter the product key -- you'll get an ERROR saying DNS error (which is about as far from the truth as you could imagine unless it means Duh 'Nother SxxT'.

You need to click on CHANGE PRODUCT KEY and enter the technet key you got.

Then it activates fine. Works on several machines as well.

Cheers

Actually, it is a DNS error. The expectation is that a Windows 7 enterprise activation will happen with a KMS (key management server) in your environment and MS clients will look up the KMS host via a special record in DNS.

By using the change product key, you identify that you instead wish to use a MAK key (multiple activation key).
