Preferred Solution: I have windows 7 home premium 64-bit with SP1 and an i7 processor on a DELL laptop. I removed Internet Explorer last week and am attempting to install it again.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am wondering if I can install Windows 7 Home Premium on a Kaby Lake processor -Intel  i3-7100. I understand Microsoft will stop supporting Win 7 in 2020, but I did not find any article by Microsoft stating that Win 7 cannot be installed on seventh
gen Intel processors.
Intel does provide graphic drivers in their website for Win 7 platform for the above mentioned CPU.
I plan to but an i3 processor, and because of this restriction I dont want to spend money on a 6th gen cpu. Please suggest.

HP laptop with I7 processor running Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium after booting up races. I went into task manager and see svchost running memory at over 256K. I delete this and another svchost and the racing stops but eventually it starts again.

What is causing this racing without opening any programs?
I don't know what services that might be running that are causing this.
I have stopped whatever programs that I know that are not needed.
As a result of this racing, it is causing excessive heat and am getting Critical Core 0 or Critical Core 3 messages popping up?
Some are suggesting the hard drive is failing and I haven't been able to run any tests yet.  I am attempting to Repair My Computer in Safe Mode and the racing is ongoing.
I downloaded a Seagate Tool to test the hard drive and was attempting that in normal bootup but the test will take several hours and it had the CPU temperature utility to cease working.

I had to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium onto my Dell Studio 1558. I did a clean install, and use the OEM disk that they had sent me previously because I didn't get it with my laptop originally.

When I asked for the Windows 7 Disk, they sent me one for the 32bit version and the 64bit version. Not sure if it matters which I install. But I reformatted the hard drive and did a clean install of Windows 7 32bit Home Premium.

It installed fine no problems. But when looking in the system information, it says that it will automatically be activated in 3 days. Then it says Activate now. I clicked that and got an error that the Product Key I typed in was invalid to activate. I didn't have to type a product key because it's an OEM CD and product key is already set up.

I called Microsoft hoping they could shed some light, they said to call Dell. I call dell, and they said it was already activated. Well if it's already activated then why doesn't it say so? Why is it telling me the Product Key is Invalid for activation?

When I do searches everyone keeps mentioning finding the product key which is stickered to the laptop. I have no stickered product key. It's already apparently set up in the OEM disk. I know Windows 7 activates differently from XP. But if it's telling me that the product key is invalid for activation now, what difference will 3 days make in registering. I guess I'm not understanding something. If it's already pre-activated, shouldn't it show as be... Read more

A:Re-Install of DELL OEM Windows 7 Home Premium

I've never heard of this 'pre-activated' stuff before, but then again I've never heard of OEM activation methods.
Did you buy this laptop directly from Dell? And also, is there any chance you have another Windows 7 disc?
I'm not sure if moving the bios clock forward three days will trick it into thinking it can activate, but I guess it's worth a shot.

Ok basically I have just finished restoring my Presario CQ56 Notebook PC to its factory settings.I was trying to update my internet browser from 8 to 10 and it told me that I couldn't due to not having Windows 7 Service Pack 1. So, I'm wondering if I can just convert over to it freely or if they charge for that or what??? After restoring the PC to the "out of the box state" I have over 116 important "SECURITY" updates that all look very similar, each beginning with "KB......." that need to be installed and am concerned that they ALL arent necessary and do not want to take up extra space.
------------My Specs are listed below------------------------------------------
Processor: Intel (R) Celeron (R) CPU 900 @ 2.20 GHz 2.19 GHz
Installed Memory (RAM): 2.00 GB
System Type: 64 - bit operating system
Pen and Touch : No Pen or Touch Input is available for this display

***Also If anyone can tell me the maximum amount of Memory this Notebook will support I would appreciate it***
And any tips that would help boost the speed of my PC that isn't to expensive I WOULD BE FOREVER GRATEFUL!!! Thanks so much xoxoxo

A:Attempting to Convert from Windows 7 Home Premium to Win 7 SP1

Well, you may not like the answer, but reverting to factory condition DOES leave you with a lot of updating to do. But before doing any of the KB (KnowledgeBase I.e. we learnt of a bug) updates, first off, install SP1 which will be downloadable on it's own, does not incur a charge, but is VERY large. Having successfully updated to SP1 (which is the latest Service Pack for Win 7) you will find the list of required KB is a little reduced, but these bug repairs can accumulate at a rate of 6/7 per month. Since the SP1 release you will have perhaps 170+ updates to install, and 50 or so more if you have office suite too.
I'm not sure about pre-SP1, but post SP1 you will be offered updates divided into two classes, described as 'critical or important' and others described as 'optional'.
You really do need to install the important ones, but a few of those will be replacements for each other. I'm hoping someone who does this more than I do will know whether you best start from the oldest or the newest, or some way to find consolidated updates instead, otherwise you are in for a long haul.

On the question of your notebook memory, 2Gb is a good enough minimum for general browsing and office work, but although a 64-bit processor can use as much as you can afford, you will not in general use, see any difference in performance at all.

It greatly depends upon what you do on the PC, but in general terms - probably a waste of money.

My product key on the back of the laptop is built from 5 parts each part built from 5 letters and/or numbers.

I used the tutorial for clean install of windows 7 and went to the download page where you need to enter the product key. When i enter it after a minute or two i'm getting a message: A problem with the identification. Make sure your key product support the product on this site.

Problem is a screen freeze. Reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium on this Dell XPS7100 using the ?factory restore? option for a clean install. Updated all the Dell drivers as recommended by Dell Support. Ran the Windows Updater to download all critical patches until it stopped working. (That?s another problem I?m working on) Now the screen freezes and the only option is to power down and restart. The freeze usually happens after the computer is idle for a short time; so far it had not frozen in the middle of a working session. Any assistance in identifying what is causing the screen to freeze will be appreciated. Something else that may or may not be related: Upon reboot, I occasionally (but not always) get a BSOD with a message that in part says: ?Driver IRQ not less or equal??..? The system almost immediately starts again to reboot, so I have not been able to read all the message. I don?t know if the BSOD is related to the screen freeze since the two do not always occur in tandem. Several crash files from the Minidump folder are attached.

I can not open IE 9. No error messages are displayed to give me any clues as to what is going on. I tried installing Google Chrome and, like IE 9, it will not open either. Currently, I can only get Firefox to open. I have scanned the laptop using ESET's online scanner, which found nothing. I also scanned with MSE with the same results. No infections of any form are found. Any thoughts as to what I can do to further troubleshoot this issue? Many thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

A:Windows 7 home premium Internet Explorer Error

Check if there any know issues with this level of IE but the simplest solution may be to go back to a previous level that did not give you these problems. I stopped using IE years ago as I could never get it to work as I'd like and always attracted malware etc - you should try Firefox or Chrome.

This has been quite a week for me. I recently bought a new 120GB SSD for my system as the 64GB one I had been using was starting to feel very cramped. Instead of cloning my old disk over, I opted for a clean install. From the very beginning, problems began to occur. My installation USB for Windows 7 that has worked for years suddenly was having errors installing. Can't remember the error but the solution was to just get a new ISO to burn to the drive. Got it installed, set up my profile, restarted the computer and got "A disk read error occurred. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart the computer." For two days, restarting the computer gave me a 45% chance of that error, a 45% chance of "Reboot and select proper boot device," or a 10% chance of actually getting into windows. After checking the disk via CHKDSK and my memory with MEMTEST, both to no avail, I ended up clocking down my memory to 1600MHz and switching what SATA port my hard drive was in on my motherboard. Not sure which one fixed it but both of those errors are fixed now.

Since then I've installed all of my drivers but I'm getting a lot of problems with just basic functioning of programs. Steam, NVIDIA GeForce Experience, ... Read more

A:explorer.exe crashing on clean install of Windows 7 64bit Home Premium

Sounds like a bad ISO image install. You can try to create another ISO using a different source and medium (USB or DVD) and reinstall. Another option is to use the cloning method with the old 64GB SSD; if its still in tact and doesn't have any issues of its own. All you need is free cloning software and applicable SATA-USB cables. It's a lot faster and excludes reinstalling programs/applications and Windows updates that would normally follow a clean install.

Hi, I am trying to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit but every time I do I cannot get past the screen where I have to download the driver to go further in the installation. I have tried Various methods such as: full reinstall disk of windows 7, an original windows 7 disk, bootable USB with windows on it. None have worked to get passed it. I have also tried to make a DVD of the drivers to install by downloading the drivers from the website and extracting them to the DVD and I have tried it fr the USB way too. It still has not worked. Am I doing something wrong? Please help me find a solution in the next couple of days please. I am not even able to see my hard drive by the way.

The error almost always means a bad installer. Where did you get the ISO and how did you burn the disk? See Step 1 of Clean Reinstall Windows 7 for how to confirm the iSO and properly burn the DVD.

Sure, make 2 primary partitions (you already have Windows HP installed on one) and install Enterprise on the other.

Why do you want Enterprise ?

And a better question, why do you want 2 installs of 7 on the same machine.

Greetings. Hoping someone can help with reformatting a Dell Inspiron 1721; 3 GB RAM; 250 GB HDD; Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 1.9 GHz processor; Vista Home Premium 32 bit OS.

Reformatted and clean install of Vista 2 months ago. Afterward, everything worked perfectly until a couple of weeks ago. After automatic updates installed Vista SP2, suddenly Windows Media Center (which I've never used and am not at all familiar with and have no plans to learn it and use it in the future) began opening by itself over and over.

Also, a little window popped up on boot up that said something to the effect that my new hardware needed intalled; however, I have not added any new hardware. Have no idea what it was trying to install.

Also, intermittently, programs I'm using just exit out even though I have not pressed exit. And, the mouse intermittently jumps around by itself or won't respond to the touchpad - - it opens programs, opens the start menu, types gibberish into the 'Start Search' line, closes programs, opens browsers or browser tabs, closes browser tabs, etc, etc, etc.

Also, sometimes an odd looking exit menu appears top left screen in a different resolution than the screen is set at. AND, sometimes, when I'm working, all of a sudden the keys won't type but the computer issues a loud beep every time a key is pressed.

When problems first started, I immediately ran system restore. No change.
Tried another date in system restore. Still no change.
Went through all restore points and... Read more

Hi Sharon.

If your game then so am I.

All the things you stated sound like a possible infection or operating system corruption due to unknown reasons. Although none, or a questionable one, was found. I am in total agreement with Garmanma. Also the fact that the rootkit scan is disabled in AVG causes me some concern.

Seems you already have a pretty good idea how to format the drive and reinstall your OS and drivers....... But would like to take it one step further in this case though. I would like to have you wipe the entire hard drive to zeroes prior to formatting and installing the OS. This would include what is called the MBR = Master Boot Record, the partition the OS is on as well as the restore partition. Of course this would leave you only the option of reinstalling via the CD. All pre-installed software will be gone for good. Complete restore CDs are usually available from the OEM for a nominal cost.

The only reason I suggest this manner is, 1)The problems you are describing does somewhat resemble infection symptoms. 2)Depending on the possible infection type a simple reformat may not get rid of it. I have also read that it is possible for the restore partition can become infected as well.

The procedures are really pretty easy, the program(s) to wipe the drive to zeroes is free and we will do our best to get you through the whole procedure as painlessly as possible.

Let me know what you decide.

Hey, i recently reinstalled windows just for a general clean up of the system, and since then my internet has been extremely slow (paticuarly youtube and utorrent). Iv spoken to my isp (DODO) and its nothing on their end. Before the clean install my torrents were downloading up to 2.5mb/s and now they sit at around 20kb/s no matter how many seeds. i did a speedtest and am getting under 1mb download speed and even less for upload. iv tried all different drivers and have searched the internet repitively to find a solution but still cant. What was it about the clean install that changed my speeds? Also im running adsl+2 through a wired connection strsight from modem.

Hello & Welcome to Tech Guy Forum.

After W7 was completely installed, in which order did you install the drives and other software?

At which point did you notice computer slowness?

When did you download the W7 updates? With a slow download speed, I would think that such a large file download would be time consuming.

Internet speed depends upon not only your system but the server load of your ISP [ excelelnt that you checked with them ] and the servers you are trying to access.

Test your up & down speed at a 3rd party site such as www.dslreports.com/speedtest. There are multiple other sites.

No offense intended: I've read that a significant %age of shared files are infected. Which anti malware scans have you performed. I am not authorized by Tech Guy Forum to advise any; the forum has specially trained members for that.

Thanks for posting the system info.

Hi, I am new to this forum and not a computer expert. My 6-month old Dell Inspiron laptop is currently stuck on the Welcome screen (with spinning icon). When turned on, it brings me to my sign in screen, I enter my password and then it goes to the Welcome screen and just stays there and the little icon keeps spinning. Any suggestions on what to do? Thank you!

A:Dell Inspiron Laptop Windows 7 Home Premium Stuck on "Welcome" Screen

Hi aphelocoma,

Please try the following steps to see if they help:

Try to run 'hardware diagnostics' to check 'hardware functionality':
- Power off the laptop > Power it back on; at Dell splash screen repeatedly tap 'F12' > Use 'arrow keys' on the keyboard to highlight 'Diagnostics' and tap 'Enter' > Capture 'error message' if any.
You may refer to the following 'web article' for detailed steps: Run Built-In Diagnostics for Your System

If you still experience issues, try to 'Load BIOS defaults' to see if that works:
- Power off the laptop > Power it back on and at 'Dell splash screen' repeatedly tap 'F2 key' > Tap 'F9' to 'load BIOS defaults' > Tap 'F10' to 'Save and Exit'
Note: Also check the 'hard drive status' in the 'BIOS' (Check if detected)

Please share the exact system model, if no conclusive results show up.

Do reply with the findings; would be glad to assist.

I have tried some of the remedies mentioned in the forum like resetting TCP/IP protocol using netsh command, ipconfig renew, re-installed the driver from the manufacturers CD but to no avail.

Hi and welcome. As you say a Windows operating system can only be installed on one pc.
With the system specifications that you have you may want to try Linux or Ubuntu.
You would burn the ISO file to a DVD.
Start the pc from the DVD - click on 'Try Linux Mint/Ubuntu' not install.
This will also test the hardware of your Pc and you will then know if Linux is compatible with your Pc.
If you like it you can then install Ubuntu - Linux.
It can also be run and installed from a USB stick.

You may have hard drive issue....Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287 (or http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...ive+diagnostic)Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable. For Toshiba hard drives, see here: http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=Serv...ties#diagnostic

Can somebody offer some advice please I keep getting error message that Internet Explorer has stopped working ,this is happening randomly on various sites sometimes referring to closing down with something to do with D.E.P. protecting my computer from harm ,not quite sure if I have it right .
But I have never had this problem before ,one answer I have found from the help and support page is to reset Internet Explorer settings ,but it seems to undo a lot of settings.
I t suggests some software I may have downloaded could cause the problem does this mean uninstall one by one to see.?
Or disable add ons ,what is the best course of action.?

A:Internet Explorer 8 Vista Home Premium service pack 2

Here is one suggestion that helps IE crashes:
Go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab, Tick "Empty Temp Internet Files Folder When Browser Is Closed" Hit OK.

You can disable third party add on's one at a time to see if it helps, a process of elimination.

You should only have one active antivirus installed at any time.  Multiple antivirus programs can cause false positives, it can even cause your computer to become unstable resulting in BSODs.
Your D: drive has 0% free space.  It is full.
How did you reinstall Windows?

Hi this is my first post.

I have been experiencing problems that started on the 2/10/09. an error message I consistently see is "failure to intialize error code 0x800106bA"

the problems manifest as the window appears but is incomplete and takes awhile to ffinish downloading. I always had hangs with IE, but now it has gooten worse about 3 times a dayLike wise with wmp.

As far as Vista goes, I stopped doneloading the updates {275 mb worth),because when I loaded SP1 I encountered many difficulties, not to mention audio issues. Then when I tried to download there were many failures-how do I rectify this issue.

I can provide information from the event viewer or the performance logs.

I have abunch more issues but I believe there is enough here already.

I would be extremely grateful for help-I'm very patient.

My question is at this time is it possible to upgrade to windows 7?  I have run the check and the Dell xps 435 does have the capability to run Windows 7.
*  Also, is there anywhere at this point in time I can get an upgrade as opposed to a clean install, so as to not lose my programs, files and settings?
*  There are retail/upgrade versions available on ebay.  Most are open packages.  If purchased and opened, would these work if they have been used prior on another person's computer?

Can I upgrade from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or from a 64-bit version of Windows 7 to a 32-bit version of Windows? You can use the Upgrade option during Windows 7 installation, which preserves your files, settings, and programs, only if you're currently running a 32-bit version of Windows Vista and you want to upgrade to the 32-bit version of Windows 7. Similarly, if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, you can only perform an upgrade to a 64-bit version of Windows 7

A:Dell XSP Windows 7 home premium does not boot

Which XPS computer model? You have posted in the Desktop Forum but removing the battery suggests you have a laptop model. If the computer turns on but does not open Windows, try running the Dell Diagnostics by tapping F12 as soon as you turn on the computer without waiting for any screen. Select the diagnostics on the boot menu and do a Custom Test of the hard drive. It might have failed.

I have put that is explorer.exe issue but i'm not too sure, its just anything related to it crashes when I click from start menu. The desktop itself isnt displaying anything, no icons or display only has the quick launch bar and start menu and system tray on the bottom. I also noticed the connection to my router isnt showing but the wifi symbol is there but no tray icon with the two computers and the blue ball. If I open windows media player and then select file and open I can access files from there but at the moment as far as explorer folders this is the only way. Every other program works.

A:Windows Home Premium explorer.exe issue

A New development to my previous issue is if I run the run accessorie and type in explorer.exe then end the biggest explorer process on my computer it opens up anything I have selected in the startup menu and I can freely browse through my files but when ending the initial explorer.exe the bar at the bottom with the start menu and tray disappears and never returns and if I click to shrink the window i have open on the manually run explorer.exe it shrinks to bottom left hand corner to just a small bar above where the start menu should be. Either running explorer.exe manually or not when I close explorer.exe it will not restart. Is this repairable because it is very suspicious.

Hi all, glad I found this forum, and am hoping somebody will help me out.

Here's the background to my issue. I have an older HP NC6220, XP Pro, with a Seagate 40gb ST94813A Momentus 5400.2.

While downloading pics from my camera to the hd, which I've done many times before, the laptop died. I think something with the power supply went bad. I pulled and re-installed the aux and main batteries, but could not get it to power up.

I bought a new HP G71 W7 laptop.

Someone suggested buying an external case for the old laptop's HD so I could get my files off of it. I did. The external case comes with two USB cables; one seems to be for power and one for data. I plugged the drive into it, making sure the one missing connector matches up with the same location on the pc board fo the holder.

I plugged it into my new laptop, the red light on the holder changes to green, but I get one of three results: driver missing, there is a problem, or no message at all. The drive does spin when plugged in with either or both cables.

I did go to the Seagate site, but all I could find on this drive was info related to the drive being inside a laptop. I could find nothing on accessing it in a holder. If you know of info there on how to do this, please send me a link to the section.

Then someone suggested that because the old laptop was XP Pro, the new W7 could not work with it. So I Plugged the thing into my homebuilt desktop that runs XP Pro. The light never turns green on the ho... Read more

Sup peoples? Im running a Dell XPS 730 w/6GIG RAM, Intel i7 Proccessor, Vist Home Premium 64Bit. I was unsuccessful in my last attempt to dual boot Windows Home Premium 64 and Windows XP 32. The last thing I tried was running Windows XP 32 in a Virtual Window on Vista 64. However my programs do not function correctly in doing so. I am ready to throw Vista out the window.... However I am unable to install Windows XP. After inserting the disk and running the setup, it fails to see any drives to install XP. I have crossed this road before, and was informed to change the BIOS settings to adhere to my needs. I am not too familiar with the BIOS... I am not running RAID setup... In the ICH Config, it has an option to switch between AHCI and RAID, however when I change it and retry it fails to see any drives as well.... At this point I just want to wipe my hard drive clean, and install XP. One thing I forgot to mention was that when I had my external hardrive plugged in it was viewable, however cannot support and OS. It was of "FAT32" file type. Any suggestions???? PLEASE HELP....

Hi. I am having a problem. The OS(Windows 7 x64) finishes installing but when it finishes it boots up again like normal then flashes a quick blue screen error message. I have tried doing what the comments told you to do except for downloading the ISO and burning it to a disk. I just get the same error. Why haven't you downloaded an ISO and burned it to a disk?

The product key on the COA sticker required to activate an installation of an OEM install on a laptop is always:

- underneath the laptop
- inside the battery compartment of the laptop

Please confirm that this is the case. If so, follow this to get an installation ISO and perform the installation and activation:

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

The key you found with the key finder will not work as its the manufacturers factory OEM_SLP key - you MUST use the key from the COA sticker.
