Lenovo S540-14IWL Fn + Q performance mode not working

Q: Lenovo S540-14IWL Fn + Q performance mode not working

Hello,I used my laptop for a couple of days and I couldn't get to make Lenovo performance mode (pressing Fn + Q to change fan speed) to work. I've seen this thread, but I don't want to risk installing wrong software. Anyone knows how to solve it without manually going to BIOS every time, and if that software is compatible with my laptop? Edit: I forgot to mention, whole software/drivers are up-to-date, both via Lenovo Vantage and via Windows Update (System version: Windows 10 Pro 1909 18363.476)

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

So I bought  a new s540 without an os. Installed Windows 10, ran automatic updates, installed other drivers manually etc...When I connect the laptop to an external monitor nothing happens - trying on different monitors and cables.I thought I had a damaged product so went back to the store for a replacement. A few days later I got the replacement - same exact problem. The sales representative said it is probbly a problem with the whole line. Is that so? I just returned it to get my money back. Is it a known problem? I see that I'm not the only one having this problem. I've been a Lenovo user for most of my life and would like to remain one. Can you please suggest a fix? I'm not going to buy another s540 / ideapad model until I can find a solution.  Thanks, Samuel

So I got a new laptop, a Lenovo s540-14IWL. Everything is great about it, other than the fact that the bezel is not glued properly to the screen at the right and left edges.I had this problem on the original one I got and also on two replacements. I decided to keep it because the price was very good and I really like it. The other options were not nearly as good and as a programmer I need to have a computer all the time. I was wondering if someone could offer some help?I got 2 options:- Live with it.- Send it to the lab under warranty as it's only about a week old (Problem is I saw their work on my cousin's laptop and it wasn't good). Can it cause any further damage to the computer if I leave it like that. To the eye it's not as bad as it looks in the picture. One important note: If I hold it with my hands it will glue back and look perfect for a few minutes (When it was new it stayed for longer) until it goes back to its' original state. Thanks a lot for taking the time to read my post! Here are some pictures:When staring in front of the laptop:Right Side:Left Side:After touching it with my fingers for a few seconds:

I purchased a new Ideapad S540-14IWL recently but couldn't find a way how to connect a secondary display via HDMI. I use Windows 10 Pro. So far I've tried the following:- using different monitors;- using different HDMI cables;- installing newer and older Intel VGA drivers;- going through the Windows 10 video troubleshooter;- switching off the laptop and/or the monitor and powering them in various sequences (as suggested in a few articles I found on the Internet);- tried to switch to the second display using Win+P, of course. No matter what, Windows is not able to detect a connected display (even after I manually push the 'Detect' button). The display itself finds no signal. Surprisingly, the Lenovo diagnostics utility couldn?t identify a problem after running both the Display and the Display Interface tests. The laptop is flashed with the latest BIOS. I read other Lenovo models have similar issued when AHCI mode is selected in the BIOS rather than RST. However, switching to RST comes with a warning that the controller change will result in all the data being erased, which I can't afford.  Any help on that issue will be appreciated.

Hi! I bought  Ideapad s540 14IWL with Nvidia mx250 without OS. I've installed Windows 10 from official msdn site and then I've been starting to install drivers from Lenovo site in order: Chipset -> Intel VGA - Nvidia. And when I had installed Nvidia driver the system failed in BSOD with error "driver_verifier_dma_violation". And the after any restarts system fails again. If I remove Nvidia drivers - system works fine (but ofcouse wihout mx250  ). Does anybody know how I can solve this problem?

Hello, I recently purchased a Lenovo S340-14IWL Machine Type: 81N7. I have an SSD available with me. (SAMSUNG 2.5" 256GB SSD SATA3.0Gbps) Is it possible to install this SSD alongwith the existing 1TB HDD to my laptop and transfer the windows to the SSD without hampering the warranty. Also i need to know if I can add an 8GB RAM with the below details: Capacity:8GB Single Rank  |  Style:Crucial DDR4 CT8G4SFS824A is a 8GB single ranked DDR4 notebook module that operates at speeds up to 2400 MT/s and has a CL17 latency. It is an Unbuffered SODIMM . It conforms to the industry standard DDR4 SODIMM layout of 260 pins and is compatible with systems that take DDR4 2400MT/s SODIMM memory. Align the notch(es) on the module with the notch(es) in the slot, and then press the module down until the clips on the slot snap into place place. also please clarify whether these activities can be done by me or need to take to some service centers.

Hello.I recently bought C340 14IWL I5 8265U with VGA onboard Intel Graphic 620.On the back of the device, I can see two slots to release the heat but only the right side is working. I have reviewed some documents from User Guides, Hardware Maintenance Manual and can see the cooling system with two fans.I also know some version with VGA NVIDIA and I wonder if only these versions have a cooling system with two fans? The reason that I ask this's because I often see fans run very fast and make noises. This is my first time using a laptop from Lenovo so I don't know if it's normal or not ? My previous laptop from Asus was rarely able to hear the noise from the fan.And one more thing. I bought this laptop for 20 days and use Conservation Mode. Is full charge capacity (in Lenovo Vantage/Battery) reliable ? 10 days ago I checked and found 45Wh/45Wh(Design). 3 days ago it suddenly reduced to 41/45Wh, then i turned off Conservation mode and fully charged and now it's increased to 42.9/45Wh. (With 10 Cycle count)Thank you

The video below show the inside of the C340 model without the discrete Nvidia graphics, and it does indeed have only a single, but larger, cooling fan than the two fan version.     C340 Fan Removalhttps://download.lenovo.com/lts/RCNW1860/FOF/RCNW1860-IdeapadC340IdeapadFlex_REM_FRU_09_Fan.mp4 More C340 parts removlal/repelacement videoshttps://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/HT508522 I cannot answer you battery questions, but in my experience lithium batteries last longer in conservation mode (lifespan).  Cheers,  Cheers,

I recently purchased a Lenovo IDEAPAD 14" laptop S340-14IWL. I'm finding the display screen is extremely sensitive to viewing angle, in particular in the vertical axis and when watching streaming TV. In particular when watching video like NETFLIX the picture quality is very poor and difficult to watch. I beleive this laptop has a TN display and the poor video quality may be due to the quality of TN panel but not sure if this is a common issue with the S340. Any insights would be appreciated.

I'd like to know what if any parts of this laptop are upgradeable, without possibly affecting the warranty. Can I upgrade my RAM to 16gb? Also, I've been told the laptop screen has a max brightness of 250 nits. Is that sufficient enough for viewing videos in HD? Hello, Since two weeks my Lenovo Thinkpad screen flickers on the right side and on boot up or recover from stand by. This becomes pretty annoying and I have updated all the drivers and also upgrading to Windows 10 didn't work neither. The warranty was due June this year, so I don't know that if I have to repair it that it will cost money. But I think it's strange for a screen to be broken in one year and 3 months. If you perhaps know a solution for this or know how it will be handled by Lenovo if I send it away for repairs please tell me. Yours faithfully, Joost Kolkhuis Tanke

Hello everyone There have been plenty of threads about poor wifi performance on Lenovo S540.  But this is a new story. It is not poor, it is unhealthily terrible. I purchased S540 in summer 2014 and yes, wifi was weak but tolerable. Around 1 month ago, without a notice and without any intervention from my side, it became unhealthily weak. I mean it, 1 meter from router is more or less fine (three bars out of five), 2 meters  - weak and unstable, 3 meters - it doesn't even see the network. No barriers between router and laptop, of course The problem is not with router. That's because I tried two different routers, two different ISPs (and iphone hotspot just in case)- same story in every instance. Also, other devices in my family - laptops, smartphones and tablets - work just fine with existing wifi network. The problem is not with specific wifi card. I replaced wifi card (Intel N 7260) with the new one (nb. and probably lost guarantee by that) but nothing changed at all. The problem is not with software. I have all latest drivers and BIOS, and I also tested the problem under Windows 10 and under Ubuntu liveUSB - absolutely same symptoms, 3 meters from router = no wifi networks seen. P.S. LAN internet works perfectly fine, problem is only with wifi. From the above testings I conclude that problem is with hardware, but not wifi card - is it possibe? I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas on how I should... Hey,To begi, I have 2 problems since I bought this notebook about 2 weeks ago1- The performance is so poor    I am running Windows 10 and what I can notice is the bad performance from such an i7 processor @2.7 to 2.9 Ghz with 8 GB RAM(DDR4) and Nvidia Geforce 920MX(2GB)once I remove the AC Adapter and run it on the battery it tends to be slower and even when plugged in it's still giving me like the minimal performance, I have another laptop which is processor i5 @2.3 Ghz , 4 GB of RAM(DDR3), Intel Graphics Card(1GB) and it is running at much higher speed and I have tested this on some game and the i5 PC gave me a Higher FPS(90+) while the Ideapad gave me something around 60So, is it because some kind of factory settings for the lowest performance ever on that PC as I want to change it? Please give me a decent Solution for that problem as I can't work on the Ideapad this way.....2- Since I bought this laptop and I am using it regularly so I wanted to limit the battery usage to increase its lifespan so I have download Lenovo settings and Companion to Activate the Conservation Mode but It never worked, It never limited the battery to 60% and the battery still goes to completion....So I need a solution for thatThanks in advance.

I don't think it is a hardware problem, because they stopped working both at the same time. However, even though the conservation mode is toggled on, the battery will charge to 100% and stay at 100%. The icon near the battery usually would indicate whether the AC adapter is plugged in by showing a plug and if you would toggle conservation mode, this AC adapter plug would change into a leaf. However now it is always a leaf, whether I the conservation mode is on or off.  I appreciate all suggestions.

Hello everybody. I can't get my laptop operate at CPU turbo frequency any more! I got my Z710 with windows 8.1 preloaded. The laptop came with Intel's i7 4710 MQ CPU (2.5 GHz base freq, 3.5 GHz max turbo freq) and I could let the processor go up to the turbo frequency using lenovo's pre-installed energy manager software. I then upgraded my OS to windows 10 through microsoft update, keeping the energy manager which was compatible with the new version of windows and everything kept working OK. With the energy manager's high performance option, CPU single core frequency went up to 3.49 GHz (tested with CPU-Z and Si Sandra). However, after getting a new SSD I did a clean install of windows 10 and tried to do the same thing with windows built-in power management (since lenovo doesn't provide a power manager for windows 10 as far as I know) and it doesn't work. With the "High Perdormance" option and minimum processor state = maximum processor state = 100%, the speed never goes over 2.5 GHz. Is there some extra configuration I need to make or do I need extra software like intel's XTU or something like that?Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone else's Lenovo Battery Power Conservation Mode stopped working? I have a Lenovo FLEX 5-1570 and Conservation Mode recently stopped functioning. Everything else appears to be working fine but now when I have my laptop plugged in, it charges to 100% and remains there. I've tried turning Conservation Mode off and back on. I've tried rebooting. I've tried reinstalling the BIOS and Chipset software. None of these fix the problem. The worst part is Lenovo "support". Lenovo hardware support is completely separate from Lenovo software support and they do not talk to one another. Lenovo hardware support provided no support other than suggesting trying to reinstall the BIOS and Chipset updates. (My best guess is their latest BIOS update created the problem.) Lenovo software support will not provide support for their own software, even though the laptop is under warranty, without paying extra for it! Knowing this now, I will never buy another Lenovo product.

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

All that happens is that the GUI changes but the camera doesn't switch on (judging by the light) and motion doesn't work. Oh and it says hands free mode is off. What's up? How can it enter the GUI and not be in hands free mode?

Thanks

Hi.  I have a problem with my yoga 710 in tablet mode. The on screen keyboard just pops up and goes away after a secound.  Some say its a problem with Chrome. But the problems also occurs when i try to log in to windows in tablet mode. The keyboard pops up, and goes away so i cant type my passcode. If i flip the pc out of tablet mode and opens the onscreen keybord by pushing on it on the taskbar it stays open. Someone know how to fix this?

I got Lenovo IdeaPad 700-15ISK not long ago and set up Conservative Mode in Lenovo Settings because my PC is always plugged in. But every time I restart my computer (I turn it off for the night and unplugg/turn the electricity to the adapter off), it starts charging up, even thou in Lenovo Setting the option is turned on. When I turn it off and back on, then is OK. But I don't want to do this all the time, there got to be a solution. :/One other question, in general sense - whith this mode on anc PC being turned off and plugged in/on electricity, does this mode applies or it can charge computer fully?
