HP Laserjet 1100 drivers & Windows 7 update not compatible!?

Q: HP Laserjet 1100 drivers & Windows 7 update not compatible!?

After initially working fine on Windows 7 64-bit for several months my old HP Laserjet 1100 stopped working all of a sudden 3 months ago for good. Since then I have been trying various methods to get it up and running again & getting nowhere. It seems to be a common theme that people's old 1100 seems to work fine for the first few months & then it stops being able to print for no apparent reason.

Then earlier today I found a lone thread from a very old forum where someone with the same issue figured out that his 1100 stopped working just after a particular Windows Update (he didn't specify the offending update). Apparently he deleted all the updates from that day & behold! He got his printer to work again!!

This is the only person I have found out there who seems to have genuinely solved this problem. My issue is that because so much time has elapsed since my 1100 stopped working I have had literally 100's of Windows Updates since then & have no way of knowing which update caused the HP1100 driver to crash. So now I know what has caused the problem but I am still left with a non-working printer and it seems many others out there have the same problem.

Additionally, since the printer stopped working when I unplug & plug its USB from the computer there is now no familiar "ding" noise. In my search to fix the problem I uninstalled (removed) the HP1100 from my computer & now I cannot reinstall it because it won't recognise that the 1100 is plugged in.

Would love to get it up & running again as it is a fantastic workhorse & after all these years still has nothing wrong with it. If anyone has any answers would really appreciate it. Many thanx!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

It sounds to me like Windows Update installed a new driver for it and if so, then that driver is bad. So I recommend trying to find any updates that were just a driver for the printer and then uninstalling that update.

Additionally (but not instead of the above), I recommend opening Device Manager and looking for the printer. If you find it, then right-click it and uninstall it but also enable the option to uninstall the software too before clicking OK.

I also recommend opening the Device Installation Settings control panel by opening the Start Menu and typing "device i" and then pressing Enter. Or type device installation settings and press Enter. Once it is opened, copy these settings:

I also recommend changing the Windows Update setting to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them".

Hi,
Based on my research, there isn't Windows 7 compatible driver released currently on HP site. But I found the Windows 7 64bit driver in Microsoft Update Catalog.
You can also try installing Windows Vista 64bit driver in Windows Vista compatibility mode.
1. Download the Windows Vista 64bit driver from the following site:
HP LaserJet 1100 Printer series
Please note: we provide the third party link to download the relevant driver for technical use only. There may be some changes without notice, Microsoft doesn't guarantee any accuracy on contacting information.
2. Install the driver under Windows Vista compatibility mode.
1) Right click on the exe file for driver and click Properties.2) Click on the Compatibility tab.3) Select “Run this program in compatibility mode for.”4) Choose Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) from the drop down list.5) Select “Run this program as an administrator” option under the Privilege Level topic.6) Click Apply, click OK.7) Please double click on the exe file again.

I am running Windows 7 64bit.

I have an HP LaserJet 1100 connected to USB via a Parallel Port to USB cord.

(something like this: http://www.gizmobyte.com/product-ima...-par-25p-l.jpg )

I have tried installing the printer with Add Printer and the 1100 is on the list. I install it, try to print something and then in the Devices and Printers window, the printer shows the yellow exclamation point above it.

Anyone have the same problem, anyone know a solution?

Thanks

I am working on a HP Laserjet 1100 printer for a customer
The main issue is that when they print the paper will tend
to cascade in the Paper-tray and then after a couple pages
it pulls multiple pages in and jams the printer.

I have seen this happen before with HP Printers and it was
a rubber retainer at the bottom of the paper tray that was
either missing or damaged and was not keeping the paper
aligned or up right.

This printer also does not have the "top" stand for the paper tray
which I don't think is the issue.

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Recently, I loaded QuickBooks 2003, and now my forms don't print lines, boxes, and all print is very light. Just loaded a new printer cartridge and tried reloading the drivers.

Nothing works. . . any ideas?

I've provided link to the latest driver for the 1100.

First uninstall the printer driver - try ADD/REMOVE Programs first, then delete the printer from the Printers Folder - and any others that shouldn't be there.

Then install the new driver.

I have an HP Laserjet 1100 (about 4 years old) that will not print.

You can get it to print a test page by pressing the button on the printer. (I am assuming that the printer's basic print function work from this)
You can delete the printer from My Computer and Win XP will recognize that it is there and reinstall the drivers. (I am assuming the cable is OK from this)
It will not print the test page from the printer configuration page nor from any programs.

Any thoughts, suggestions or experience with this.
Thanks

A:HP Laserjet 1100 not working

Hi sstaggen,
What message do you get when you try the test page??
When you right click on the printer, can you configure the printer or is it grayed out??
Are the drivers XP drivers or from the printers cd??
If XP drivers, right click the printer, driver tab and update driver.
Select show a list of drivers and select have disk.
Put in the driver cd, and navigate to the driver it whats on the cd. Apply then OK and try the printer again.

I have a new Dell laptop and a HP Laserjet 1100 printer w/ a parallell port. Is there a way to find an extension or something to convert to a USB printer?

A:Solved: Printer Problem HP Laserjet 1100

Ah, the venerable 1100 - good basic machine that lack what the 1200 had - ye old USB. Yes, there is an adaptor (I'm holding one as we type) called a USB Parallel Printer Adaptor. They can be tricky, but if you install them properly, they will do fine.

The trick to remember is that they are a periferal themselves, and need to be installed before you install the printer. You install the software for the adaptor first - when the install asks for it, plug the USB in - let the computer find the adaptor. Not following these rules are the reason I've seen more of these beasties come back, as people think they aren't working.

Once you have the adaptor working, that is when you should revert to the install method of a parallel jack - that is, PLUG THE PRINTER INTO THE ADAPTOR, THEN install the printer software (remember, parallel devices installed in the oposite way a USB device installs).

One other thing to remember - there is a good chance that this beastie WON'T WORK with Vista. You may want to see if HP has Vista drivers first for the 1100.

So, I'm heading off to college in about a week, and I decided to dust off the ole gamecube, intending to use it with one of my lcd monitors. I also found an old adaptec 1100 hiding in the basement (composite to usb). I'm running windows 7, and of course Adaptec decided to not supoort any of the video capture hardware for vista/win7.

Installing the drivers in compatibility mode fails.

I tried installing the drivers in the "windows xp mode" within windows 7, which I'm guessing is doing some sort of emulation. The drivers work fine, and I'm able to run a game in a tiny window no problem. The issue occurs when I scale the image to fit the majority of the monitor. It gets consistent "spikes" in delays and a blaring delay. I'm guessing this is something like a cache getting too full? I suspect it's related to the "windows xp mode."

I'm also guessing it will work fine if I dual booted, but I'd much rather not setup a whole new partition. Plus a lack of windows xp cd's is problematic.

I did a bit of research, thinking maybe some cool guys may have hacked together some drivers. I found this, and sent him an email, but two weeks later, I have yet to receive a reply.

Also, I just came across this but I lack the knowledge to make much sense of the information provided. The program for windows that they link to is able to see the usb device, but the drivers I tried to install with it didn't do anything. A... Read more

Hi all,

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 (32 bit), but now my Lexmark All-In-One X74-X75 printer drivers aren't compatible... well, kind of.

When I first reinstalled the drivers after the upgrade, I was able to use the scan facility of the printer, and print jobs could queue up for printing, but they would not print. When I attempted to update drivers, uninstall/reinstall, etc, I was told the installation was unsuccessful.

Hey all, I recently installed an SSD in my old y580 laptop and reinstalled windows 10 but windows is registering the touchpad as a mouse plugged into the PS/2 port. As such, the touchpad inputs are far from optimized and no multi-finger gestures are being recognized (including scrolling  ). The previous HDD recently died but definitely used elan/synaptics drivers. I've had this problem occur on other Lenovo laptops and I've seen others posting about it on here, but never for the y580 and I've never been able to solve it. I've downloaded all of the touchpad drivers on the support page for my serial number but none of them go up to windows 10 and all of them result in an error message that reads that the Realtek Bluetooth Suite isn't compatible with this version of windows. I've also downloaded 15-20 different drivers for windows 10 elan/synaptics touchpads from varying newer lenovo laptops but none of them recognize my touchpad either. Any help would be super appreciated.

I have just upgraded to Windows 8 Pro from the Consumer Preview. I am using a Virgin Media supplied Netgear WNDA3200 network adapter to connect to a Virign Media Superhub, but the drivers for the adapter don't seem to work with the release version of Win8. I had the same issue with the CP of Win8, but was able to resolve it by downloading the 1.2 version of the WNDA3100 driver from the Netgear website. I have tried this and all the other WNDA drivers including the windows 8 beta ones, but the adapter still isn't working.

It seems odd to me that it would work in the CP, but not in the full release version of Windows 8.

If anyone has any ideas as how to go about solving this issue, they would be much appreciated.

EDIT:

After much frustration, I figured out the issue. It turns out that the adapter had defaulted to running one of microsoft's drivers, which was not working correctly. To get around this, you need to make sure you already have the driver installed, then search for "Device Manager" in settings (without quotes), and open Device Manager. Once it's open, sroll down to Network Adapters, and expand that. Then double click on the adapter. It should open a small window. Navigate to the 'Driver' tab, and select 'Update driver'.

I have recently bought a new P Bell easynote laptop which is running off Windows 7.

I am trying to connect my trusty HP 4L printer but am having problems

I cannot find the printer in the list of printers when I click on add a printer

Anyone help please?

A:Drivers for HP Laserjet 4L

Welcome to TSF.

In the window containing the list of printers, select Windows update.
It will take upwards of 5 minutes to get an updated printer list. The HP 4L is on the updated list.

Howdy,

I have a Laserjet 5N (I know, pretty old) connected via parallel (LPT1) port to my computer. It worked just fine on my old machine with Windows XP on it, however, I just bought a new computer with Windows 7 on it and I've been having problems making it work ever since.

I went to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add printer, did the "Windows Update" which updated the list of drivers and the HP LaserJet 5N was listed there. However, after adding the driver, printing still doesn't work - the "see what's printing dialog" just shows "error - printing" the moment I click "print test page" (or when I try to print anything else).

I've also tried searching the windows update catalog (downloaded, did "have disk", still no luck), as well as selecting some of the other printers on the "add printer" list - nothing helped.

I'd appreciate any input. Thanks!

According to Microsoft, your printer should install itself automatically when connected (Windows 7 Compatibility for HP Laserjet 5N Printer Laser Printer: HP. Drivers, Updates, Downloads).

You could try to uninstall the printer drivers from Device Manager (right click, select Uninstall), then uninstall all related software found in Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features. Disconnect the printer, reboot and reconnect.

If this does not work, try downloading drivers from HP's site: HP LaserJet 5/m/n Printer series*-* Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center.

My 1020 won't install with the drivers for Vista x64 downloaded.

Anyone have any luck?

A:HP Laserjet 1020 drivers

I got is solved. I found that HP had installed a program that appeared to include the drivers. I told Windows to search for a driver in Program Data and it installed the printer. I had earlier told it to search all of C: drive and it didn't find the drivers.

Hey,

I have a HP Laserjet 1012 printer, and I cant get drivers to load, I tried the Vista x64 drivers from HP, they arent seen by the wizard, and if I try to force it to use them (manually pick driver, then "have disk") it reports that there are no drivers for 64 bit in the folder with the drivers in it.. Anyone managed to get this printer working?

A:HP Laserjet 1012 (x64) Drivers

I have a Laserjet 1010, and I'm using the x64 drivers from HP without any trouble. Just that I cannor get the pronter preferences page to load.

Try installing the drivers this way:

You probably got your drivers as a self-extracting archive. Extract this archive to a folder.

In the Devices and Printers window in the Control Panel, right click your printer and then select Properties. Change to the Hardware tab.

Here, double click the IEEE 1284.4 Printing Support line to open up its properties. Notice that all the buttons on the Driver tab except Driver Details are greyed out.

Click the Change Settings button on the General tab. Now this dialog will close and reopen.

Change to the Driver tab again, and click Update Driver.

Click Browse my Computer for Driver Software.

On the page that opens, select Let me pick from a list...

Then click the Browse button and navigate to the folder containing the drivers you extracted earlier and select the file hpc1015w.inf. If you have hidden file extensions it should be the only file visible.

It should work fine.

Let us know how it goes.

I noticed a number of people looking to install an HP laserjet 1010 under Win 7 64 bit. I installed one under device and printer/add printer/local pinter/Dot 4 and used the driver for HP 3050 PCL5 and it worked fine. I will just have to see how long it works. Hope this helps anyone out there struggling to get one installed.

So I was about to install the drivers for my HP printer, went to HP.com found my product page and apparently there is no drivers for it.
What now?
Do I just wait and go without them? That's a printer that I tend to use quite often now becoming unavailable. It's a real shame because I really like that printer.
Any advice?

A:HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf Drivers?

Chris, I checked the HP software/driver support page and entered the model of your printer. I checked both 32 bit and 64 bit for Win 8. There was a short statement there that said updated drivers for Windows 8 would be forthcoming soon for your printer. So I'd suggest you keep checking periodically. Good luck.

Is there any driver better than the Windows 7 default driver or the ones currently available from HP? Those from HP seem to be actually for a different printer - the HP Color LaserJet CP2025 Series.
The real issue is that those drivers only support a resolution of 600 x 600 dpi but the HP LaserJet 5000 has a max resolution is 1200 x 1200 dpi.

Any idea how get the max resolution out of the printer?

What does the manual say? Regardless of the driver, you still have to set the printer up to output that resolution. However I do agree that it would help to have the correct driver installed.

And did you check HP's website because I see Windows 7 x64-bit drivers for the 5000 printer here HP LaserJet 5000 Printer series- Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center
