Microsoft Edge opening up with a random page after my computer was on lock mode

Q: Microsoft Edge opening up with a random page after my computer was on lock mode

Hi
I have the Microsoft Internet Explorer installed and made it my main/default webbrowser.
My problem is with Microsoft Edge though. Everytime i press ctrl+L(locking computer) and sign back in, a Microsoft Edge page just opens up with some countries name on the searchbar. It asked if I would like to make it my default webbroweser but clicked
the ''dont ask me again'' option. I closed the microsoft Edge browser, I locked my pc and signed back in and the same page opened again. I tried to find a solution in settings but got no luck.
Any of you have any ideas how to disable this ? Uninstalling the Edge isn't a option since it's a computer from work

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I still have all of my favorites intact under

%AppData%\..\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Default\Favo rites

However, opening Microsoft Edge, it just won't load these at all.

How can I fix this issue?

One thing I did was that I messed with %AppData%\..\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Default\Reco very\Active

before this happened. I renamed some files, copied it to another folder, etc.

I just downloaded Windows 10 yesterday night and after using it for the first time this morning, I decided to try out Microsoft Edge. Whenever I open it from the app section or the bottom tab section, it shuts down automatically after two seconds. I don't so much as get an error message, it just closes as if I pressed the close button. However, when I ask Cortana to open up some sort of search, then the window works and stays open. Does anyone seem to know what the problem is? Thank you in advance.

I know that this has been asked before, but I've not been able to find any resolution.

My screen is of the 'wide' variety. When I open Edge, it insists on opening on the left. Has anyone found a way to persuade it to remember to open centre screen?

I know it doesn't affect the actual operation, but it is irritating and it puts me off making Edge my default browser.

So I was able to recreate this issue three times already. I open many tabs in Edge that it brings my RAM usage to about 95% and naturally will get notified by Win10 that my memory consumption is high and I should close some applications to free up memory. BUT it should never BSOD, it should just slow down the system, of course.

1.) 1st BSOD - SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
2.) 2nd BSOD - KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE
3.) 3rd BSOD - KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE

All my system drivers are up-to-date. My CPU and RAM OC are 24x7 Prime95 stable. But I initially suspect it's because of the RAM OC (primary and secondary timings tightened). So what I did now was to put the secondary timings all to Auto and I'll try recreating the issue now. But I figured to post right away as I want your opinion on the dump files.

Here is the debug compressed file:

Hi,

The upper right profile picture on the default Startup Page of Microsoft Edge doesn't update.
It keeps displaying the first profile picture I used when I installed Windows 10.

Maybe it's a detail for most of the people but being a nitpicker, and not being given any option to modify it directly (and it should be tied to the Microsoft Account (which I use to login on Windows 10 as well as on Windows 10 Mobile) anyway, right?) it really bothers me!

All my other (tied to Microsoft account) profile pictures, on my phone (Nokia 1020/909) as well as on the online Microsoft services and Windows 10 update correctly, almost instantly, but not this one.

Is that a known issue?
Do you guys have an idea of how to fix it?

Already tried to reset completely the browser by deleting its install folder and registering the app again, following some instructions I found on the internet, but it didn't work and it even messed up my other apps. Had to do a system restore (which only worked partially if I refer to the pop-up message after I logged on, but my apps are OK now and no other problem for the moment). So, my only "problem" remains in that profile picture which doesn't update in the Microsoft Edge Startup Page.

Looking forward for any potential help,
Regards,
Nolan

A:Microsoft Edge Startup Page Profile Picture

Hello and welcome to the TenForums

As you say the picture you refer to should update automatically with your MS account. If this is not happening the cache file for that page may be corrupted. In Edge you can try clearing your cache data and files from the Settings menu, via the Clear Browsing Data section. The other thing to try is to check that you have the Sync settings turned on for Internet Explorer. This is found in the main W10 Settings->Accounts->Sync your settings page. Although it says IE it also works for Edge.

It is random. Some days there is no problem - other dys all passwords are forgotten.

Also, sometimes when I open Edge, it does not go to the start page, but opens with all the tabs that were there when I last closed it down.

Very annoying.

Hey Guys,

I am very confused about Microsoft Edge in the Windows 10 build I have (1511.) How do I change my Home Page to Google and make it stick? The instructions that I found from Microsoft say:

1.) Select More on the Address Bar (...)
2.) Than Settings
3.) Turn on Show the Home Button
4.) Enter the URL of your Home Page and click Save.

I am doing that, but it keeps going back to Bing. I also don't understand for opening pages it says, "Open a page or a range of pages." This is awful!

Half the time it's safesurfs searching engine, but sometimes its some kind of a survey or an ad etc.

I remember it all started when I downloaded a sound kit for FL Studio, so i deleted all I could, but obviously it wasn't enough.

What can I do?

Microsoft Edge has taken over my .pdf files from Adobe. They now open with Edge and prevent me from using Adobe features such as merging files ( have to print out the files I want to merge and then scan them in as a new file). All of the files switched from having an Adobe link to that big E (I guess for Edge). It has even given me trouble in converting documents to .pdf. How can I exorcise Edge?

Starting about one week ago, my computer began locking up at random. By lock up, I mean nothing works and the computer screen remains frozen at the lock up point - the mouse doesn't work, the cursor does not move, Ctrl-Alt-Delete has no response. The only possible action is to turn off the power (ouch).
It occurs as early as halfway through the computer startup or up to an hour into use of the computer (but mostly within the first two minutes of startup). Sometimes it locks up when I click on an application icon, and sometimes while typing in any program (online, Word, twice while typing withing this very box for posting a new thread - I'm using a friend's computer right now).
My system is about nine years old and runs on Windows XP. When the lock ups started, I was using Internet Explorer 7. I then switched to Firefox and the lock ups still occurred. Then I upgraded to Internet Explorer 8. No improvement (possibly even got worse if that's possible as I have not lasted more than three minutes on the last ten startups).
I did go to MSN website and scanned my computer for malware, but got a clean bill of health.
I have tried to see what the Task Manager shows when the computer locks up, but I have not seen any consistency in what processes were active at the moment of lock up. I have noticed seven different "svchost.exe" files were active at the same time while the computer is active (I'm not sure if this is important, but it seemed wierd for ... Read more

Hi there,

Recently I've been having some odd lock-ups on Windows Vista 32-bit.

It started when I was running Resident Evil 1 on PSX emulator (Don't flip people, I own the game, my PS1 just died).

Since then, I've done 3 or 4 complete reformats, but the problem persists.

The problem I can't seem to link to a specific issue, it happens under any type of use, light or heavy. I can stress test fine, yet using Firefox, it can crash (No specific websites), or my TV tuner, where when it locks-up, the sound starts stuttering rapidly.

The lock-up is that the screen freezes, I can't use Keyboard, Mouse, anything, except the Reset/Power button. Harddrive activity ceases.

I've used Seatools DOS Boot Disc to check both my Seagate 500 and 1000 GB HDDs, Short and Long tests passed.

I tried memtest86+ for 6 hours with no errors, and Window's version of a memory check for 6 hours with no errors.

Temps are fine, it isn't overheating, generally CPU is 42-45, and NB is 35-40

There is no rhyme or reason to these lock ups, as I've said, it just stops, if there's sound, it stutters, no mouse/keyboard, and no HDD activity.

It can happen from every few hours to once every few days.

Can anybody please offer some ideas? I'm at wits end here.

Any input/advice appreciated

I have a 3.5 year old eMachine T6524. I know they are low-end machines but it has worked pretty well up until now.
It has an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor with 1GB of RAM, running Windows XP Media Center Edition. It came with an on-board ATI graphics chip but I upgraded it to an nVidia GeForce 7300 GT (PCIe). I'm not much of a gamer but I do enjoy playing Portal occasionally.

Mostly I use the computer to download video podcasts and then, using TiVo Desktop, transfer them to my TiVo.

A few months ago I started having problems with the computer slowing down drastically and I found that the IDE controller was switching to PIO mode. I would have to remove it from Device Manager and reboot to get it to go back to Ultra DMA mode (which it always did). I thought my HD was going out but I ran the Seagate diagnostics and it found no problems. I also used a program called Hard Disk Sentinel to monitor the drive and it found no problems.

So I decided to to a complete system restore. It seemed to work fine at first but a few weeks later now I'm having frequent random hard lockups (usually when I'm not even using the machine) and it seems to be VERY slow at times. When I try to launch Half Life 2 it can take 10-15 minutes to finally start but once it loads up it runs fine.

Oh, I am currently running Avast antivirus, Windows Defender and have also scanned with Spy-Bot.

I'm at my wits end here and don't know what to do. I have been thinking it might be the power sup... Read more

Hello, Murasame liger and welcome to the forums. I will see if I can help. The files you uploaded did not have a dump file with them. Dump files are what we use to determine what is wrong.

But looking at some of the error reports, you are frequently getting errors from Modem OT-X080C.exe Which I believe is a dial up Modem produced by Alcatel. If I am correct about that, uninstall it if you don't use it.

Please open an elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

Also, please make sure your computer is configured to create dump files. This will tell you how.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/174459-dump-files-configure-windows-create-bsod.html After doing that, please go to C:/windows and make sure you have a file there named Minidump. If you do not, create one named Minidump.

I have 2 issues that have shown up on my PC.

HJT Log follows the description of both issues.

I am using a Lenovo Thinkpad R61i (7732/A12), Vista Ultimate w/SP2, 2GB RAM. Security is Windows Live Onecare. All O/S patches up-to-date.

Issue 1: Random Sound

Periodically the system will start playing random sounds. The sounds have been song clips, or synthesized cat meows. Not files from my computer (heaven forbid!). If I close my browser (Firefox 3.0.11), the sounds will stop. I have already checked Firefox add-ons, which are: "Down Them All", "Move Media Player" and "Speed Dial". All are up-to-date.

Issue 2: Random "lock computer and go to login screen"

If I leave my computer for a short time (less than 5 minutes) periodically the system will lock the computer and go to the login screen.

I am not talking about a system / browser / application lock-up.
I am talking about the system leaving the user logged in, but going to the login screen. To get a visual of what I am talking about, press <CTRL><ALT><DELETE> and select "Lock This Computer" (or press windows-L).

Screen saver is set to "None".
Current power plan is "Timers off (Presentation)"

If I have not been specific enough, I greatly apologize.

I am very grateful to all of you who volunteer to help.

Bill

Issue 2 has been resolved.

Appears to simply have been something corrupted in configuration.

Resolution:

1. Changed power plan
2. Activated a screen saver
3. Allowed screen saver to start
4. Changed screen saver back to "none"
5. Changed power plan back

Well as said in title, my computer is randomly locking up, as in everything stops working but no blue screen, And when it does so makes a....crashing? loud static sound? in the headsets on it, also started to beep inside of the case today every so often when it locks up.

Some days it will be fine others it will crash every few seconds, it happens when doing anything from gaming, browsing fourms, turning an IM on or even when turning the computer on after its been off for a few days, me and my friends are at a loss as to why its doing this, so i will try here before i shell out a few hundred for a shop to take a look at it, here is a copy of my dxdiag, also i built the computer my self so i probably did something wrong in the bios setting it up is MY guess but would like to get someone who knows what there doing taking a look.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop and I turned off my computer for about a week and when I tried to turn it back on, I can open IE which goes directly to MSN. If I try to type in the hyperlink box it automatically refreshes homepage or opens a new homepage tab. I can navigate to another page if I use the scroll down bar but cannot type in any log in info to open email or anything like that. Even if IE is not open and I try to type in the command prompt area it automatically opens IE. I have run Spybot scan with no errors reported and my AVG is current. AntiMalware scan also showed no errors. I tried system restore with no luck and also used the system repair disk to delete and reinstall with no luck. Please help.

Hi,
1. I cannot find a solution for a problem accessing Microsoft forums websites from Windows 10 - IE11 and Edge browsers:
in EDGE - Hmm, we can't reach this page.   IE11 this page can't be displayed.
For about a year it worked at least from Edge. Now both cannot access Microsoft forums. All the other sites are accessible.
I am using a corporate proxy. The same sites are accessible from Windows 7 with IE11.
First I blamed our IE GPO with multiple settings. So for a test I placed my machine in Blocked OU (no IE GPO, proxy is set from different GPO).
Everything what I tried didn't help. The question: why just Microsoft forums (no other sites) are not accessible.
Did couple of tests from Windows 7 IE11 machines. The same Microsoft forums are perfectly accessible (all GPOs are applied).
Suddenly, found that one corporate Web App does the same : "This  page can't be displayed". On other Windows 7 it does work.
I am out of ideas now... cannot blame anymore our GPO or proxy...
Any advice?
Thanks

The problem I have is when ever I try to start my laptop up from sleep/hibernate mode, I get the BSOD. Its been happening for awhile now and I was wondering if it could be fixed without fixing the hard drive. It occurs most often when I open my lid to wake my computer up.

PS. I also attached an image of a problem I'm having with a driver.

It's gone crazy - typing random things, opening many many instances of Mozilla, control panel, and search. The keyboard doesn't type correctly, and it refuses to let me use the keyboard via monitor. It won't register certain letters at all and some are random other symbols or letters instead of what it's supposed to be. It's driving me crazy. I didn't do anything different except start DLing Sims4.
I know restoring won't work if I can't get the computer to work right to get to that step. I can't get to my own desktop because the letters I need aren't all working to type in the ppassword. Any ideas?

I am looking for a way to clean up my lock screen so that it only shows the date/time in the bottom left and the feedback section in the top right. I had it this way previously, but since reinstalling Windows I have not been able to get it back.

I have 'Get fun facts, tips, and more from Windows and Cortana on your lock screen' disabled under Settings > Personalization > Lock screen, but this doesn't seem to have an effect. Any ideas?
