Very strange video question (:

Q: Very strange video question (:

This has got to be the strangest thing ever to happen to me. I had an AGP ATI video card with 256 mb on board which I do not remember the exact model number. It was about 8 years old. I have recently bought a flat screen 1080i 24 inch led TV which works great as a monitor ( and I mean great) Eventually the ATI card went bad and a friend had lying around an older NVIDIA TNT2 model 64 pro64 with only 64 meg on board. I almost flipped out to find that this older NVIDIA card was a 100 times better. Now everything is so crystal clear even at 1920 by 1080 my screen looks almost like an apple retina display. even the colors are so much brighter. The biggest complaint I had with the ATI card was poor contrast which I blamed on my TV/monitor, But no more. How could this possibly be? it makes absolutely no sense.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Very strange video question (:

Not sure. But I had an opposite experience many years ago. I had a p2 300 with an ATi Rage Fury Pro (I think) and played EV Nova on it, shortly after I built a 1Ghz Athlon Thunderbird system and had a GF2MX 32Meg card and it didn't look as good as the ATi.

Perhaps you didn't have the correct/best driver installed.

If I am not mistaken, as I remembered that X240 packs with Intel HD Graphics 4400. I wonder why it is now shown "Intel HD Graphics Family". Even though I have updated the latest driver from Lenovo websites, but it stay still. I wonder if vo has changed its name to this or it is because my laptop has occured any errors? Also, I want to ask is Windows 10 normal with memory took up like this and disk percentage either? I think it is kind of too high... I only have 4GB of RAM installed, and 73% is kind of too high with just three tabs of Chrome are opening...

I upgraded my reconditioned (2008/06/10) Acer Aspire M1641 from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 home premium, because under Vista I could not use a second video adapter from a different card manufacturer while using the on-board video (Vista apparently does not allow heterogeneous graphics). At the same time I bought a different video card, being a GeForce 8400 GS from Galaxy. The Win7 upgrade worked OK, but when I put in the PCI Express-16 8400 video card, the M1641 worked using the video from that card, but could not see (in Device Manager) the motherboard video adapter (NVIDIA GeForce 7050), nor could Belarc Advisor detect the GeForce 7050. I had downloaded and installed the latest NVIDIA driver for Win7 (191.07_desktop_win7_winvista_32bit_english_whql.exe) which is said to handle both GeForce 7000 and 8000 series. My questions -
1. Do I need a BIOS update and if so what BIOS file do I need,
2. Do I need driver updates for the M1641 for Win 7,
3. Do I need to go back to Vista to be able to use 2 (homogeneous) video adapters and 2 monitors so I can have the larger desktop area I need to do my work?

And incidentally, how do I set folders to remember their settings in W7? I carefully get a folder looking the way I want that particular folder to look and set its position, then next time I open it it has forgotten....

All help and suggestions gratefully received and acknowledged.

TIA

A:W7 does not see motherboard video when 2nd video adapter present + W7 folder question

By default when you install a Video card, it disables the onboard video. You can enable it again in the bios, if that is what you want, but this always causes problems. Your Video card should have 2 outputs (DVI and VGA) to run 2 monitors already, you don't need to enable the onboard video.

Ok so, I've got a Dell Dimension 3000, 2.8GHz Pentium 4, 512mb ram.

Im doing an upgrade due to my lack of a video card and sufficient ram for games. *I'm upgrading strictly for gaming*
I'm adding ram, going to have a total of 2gigs. Did it on crucial and it should work fine.
Now as many of you already know the Dimension 3000 only has PCI video card slots. So, I did some research and found the best possible card for my mobo. (At least I think) The x1550:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814103031
And just recently I saw this:

But can't find it anywhere in stores, could someone show me where that is available? To my knowledge that would be better than the x1550, right?
Also, what kind of Shaders and Vertex shaders do these have?

Well assuming I'm getting the x1550 how do I determine if the video card is compatible with my monitor? *This is my main concern*

Another question, again assuming I'm getting the x1550, I see the recommended PSU is 420W. Now, my original dell PSU is a 250W. So I'm convinced theres no way I'll be running this card without a PSU upgrade. I went to pcpower cooling's site, went to the compatible PSU's for my dimension 3000 and found this:

I am also using Dell Dimension 3000, and I upgraded all Video Card, RAM and PSU already, so I think I can help you a little bit here.

First, which games do you want to play? Because if you want to play newest games, then I'm sorry, you will have to buy a whole new computer. X1550 and 2gb of DDR RAM won't help you anymore.

Second, as far as I know, X1550 is the best for PCI now, but X1300 is really slightly behind. Many people believe they are the same. You can easily buy X1300 from newegg. You bought mine with $20.00 cheaper from eBay, but I guess money is not really your problem anyway.

Third, I have used X1300 and FX5500 and didn't see any problem with Dell Monitor at all. The only thing you need to be careful if you decide to buy X1300 is that there are two kind of X1300. Don't buy the Small Factor version because it is made for special kind of computer, and it won't fit into your case. The one you should buy look like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129062

Fourth, even though many people suggest that we should only use Dell PSU because the other PSU won't fit into the case, I am actually using this one of Antec: http://reviews.pricegrabber.com/power-supplies/m/601582/
It fits perfectly.
And yes, PSU upgrade is a good idea. I believe my system is working very well, so you should have at least 350W PSU. DON'T buy cheap PSU.

Strange question, but here -

I was in a Yahoo chat room the other day, and somebody became upset at another chatter. This person was able to enable some type of command within the chat room that literally locked up my computer, as well as everybody else’s I would guess. A series of never ending codes ran across my screen. The only thing I was able to do was to cut the power to my computer to get out. My guess is that it somehow locked up the CPU in some way, as it tried to process all of the continuous information.

I am curious what this was, and how the person did it (I am NOT looking for the specifics as far as trying it myself)

Thank-You.

I now need to create some sort of VPN on a second server/computer using the same internet connection which can NOT allow discovery of that first server or any of its files. (basically 1 server and one VPN both working mutually exclusive from same internet source) the VPN and files on that second server also needs to be VERY secure.
any suggestions?

I was thinking of setting up a second computer and just run Himachi but how safe is that? how can I keep that computer and connecting users from discovering the second server?

It's a bit above my level so any advanced answers with noob explanations would rock

The motherboard temperature sensor is not on the surface of a chip package or somewhere inside the heatsink
The exact location depends on your motherboard model.. Grab a magnifying glass and look for some interesting bits?

Mind you, by messing around with superglue, you may have done more harm than good. The glue+heatsink combinarion may have worse thermal conductivity than just plain airflow over the chip.

Hey all, I have a friend with who asked me a very weird question. He said "Is it possible to know if a cd or dvd has been copied." He meant this as in, is there anything that happens to the original disc, can somebody tell if an original disc has been used to aid in copying. For why he wants to know this I honestly do not know as he is been very secretive like he normally is (hhmm fishy). Anyway I told him that I don't think its possible at all to tell if an orignal disc has been used to make a copy, but he wanted me to ask around lol. Does anyone else think an original disc would show clues whether it has been used in the aiding of copying lol.

Cheers.

A:Strange CD + DVD Question

As far as I know one can't tell weather an original has been copied, but one can usually tell is a disk is the original or not. Original have special numbers, label etc. which can't be copied as they are physically on the disk.
One can tell the difference between an Original cd of NFS-UG2 for instance and a copy.

Hi.

I'm running on very stable XP system (P4, 800 MHz bus, 1GB RAM, 120 GB fast HD). I'm currently interesting in making DVDs for my child (as a matter of fact I've already done 11 DVDs) and I'm editing video in Adobe Premiere.
What I can't understand is the video quality of the final video I produce. When I watch final DVD on the standalone DVD player, the picture quality is OK (of course is a bit worse then original video, but I'm satisfied), but playing this DVD on the same computer (and the same DVD burner) on which DVD is made - drives me crazy. The picture is good in the static scenes, but not in the moving ones. It's full of strobo like effects and criss-cross lines. It's not happening in the standalone players!
And what I'm more confused is that same thing is happening when I play original footage (microsoft DVD AVI compression): watching it in the Premiere monitor window when I edit - everything looks perfect, but playing the same video in another program (BS player or windows media player or ...) yields bad results which I described earlier. I conclude that it must be a driver problem, but it's my top. Anybody knows?
Thanks in advance.

My laptop boots up fine(I think). It makes all of the neccesary noises, hd. cd. and everything but 6\7 times the video is wonky. the lowers 2\3is a light blue and the upper third is dark blue. There are 2 verticle bars that run from top to bottom in it. a light green one that is stationary and a black one that moves in accordance with the touch pad. I have tried enabling and disabling the video drivers via the recovery console with no luck. The system never(even when the picture is clear) boots to windows, always gets bsod.(c000021a 0x0000005) followed closely by d0000144 error. I believe the monitor is bad but I want to be sure before going there. I would like to enable the external monitor port via recovery console if any one can help. No I can not do it via bios, I already tried. yes I have tried scanning the memory, all is well in their world. Tried scanning hd, same. I fear that the laptop is just trying to piss me off.

The starts are as follows:

inspiron B120
celeron M : 1.4 Ghz

If any one has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks in advance for your help.

You do not need to go to the Recovery Console to run an external monitor. Depending on the make and model, you usually hit the FN key and one of the function keys, like F6 to toggle to the external monitor. I would also try updating your video driver.

In trying to fix an "audio, but no video" circumstance, I checked to see if I have all up-to-date codecs and players. I do. I ran the video through GSpot and it reported that the video was playable on my system. Still "audio, but no video." Then I put on a DVD, and it played fine. Immediately after that, I went back to various video files (avi, wmv, mpeg formats) and this time they ran fine too. The following day, after turning off my computer and then rebooting, once again I had the "audio, but no video" situation. I put on the DVD, as I did the day before, and once again, it triggered the video formats to begin playing fine. Something about playing the DVD is acting as a trigger to correct the video problem. Anyone have an idea about what it might be?

I have a custom computer, with parts I can't desribe from heart. Either way I have a quite strange problem I reckon.
When I start my computer, everything seems fine. Once I get into windows, all good. Though as soon as I start a video file, either on computer or e.g. YouTube, the computer hangs. The only temp solution is to pull the plug. If I only reboot, the computer only says that there is no keyboard detected (!). Though if I either switch of the powersource or pull the plug, then the keyboard error upon reboot is gone, and once again I get into windows. Though as soon as hitting a website with any kind of video file the system stalls.
I have already purchased a new power sourse, as a friend thought it might be simply lack of power. Though the problem persists still. I am thinking it might be the video card, but I think that would be strange since windows still is working with full grafics.
Still I think it would be a hardware problem, dunno why, just think so with by base experince with computers.
I would be very thankful for any suggestions, as well as ideas how to check them.

I'm having a few issues, and just wanted to see if anyone else has had this happen, or may know what causes it.

First, this could be related, I'm not sure, a few days ago I ran GPUZ and CPUZ, clicking through the tabs and realized my video card was set at Pci-Express x4 1.1. I reseated the card several times, cleaned the pci-e slot, then used my secondary pci-e power connectors, and finally it's running as it should @ x16. I'm not sure how long it was like that, the performance decrease wasn't noticeable. (I'm actually curious if it was just reporting it wrong, because my benchmarks were extremely close; Counter Strike: Source| Video Stress test 216fps at x4, then when I fixed it, 224fps. All settings maxed. This all happened two days ago, and has been fine since fixing it, but..
Now, and this never happened before, and started right after that issue, sometimes when I boot up, if I right click the desktop, and select 'Refresh', the screen go's black for a moment, for about exactly 1 second, not long enough for the monitor to say (no video), but close. Once or twice it did do that though. Once yesterday while browsing this forum, it started, but this time it only did it if I tried to scroll up or down a thread. I minimized my browser, and tried to select refresh at the desktop, to see if it was the same bug, and it did it, I had to restart the machine.
Then just now, today, I booted up, signed into my user, and exactly then, as it said loading, just as the desktop should appe... Read more

A:Strange video issues

I can only guess at this, of course, but that certainly sounds like it could be a failing video card. But it could also be due to a under-powered or failing power supply or even bad or faulty RAM.

The symptoms are very similar to TDR events, but since you are not getting any messages (Display Driver xxx stopped responding and was recovered") then we can assume it is not that, for now.

Try the new drivers. Make sure you are doing a clean driver install when dealing with video issues.

Also test to see if advanced graphics trigger the events by changing the desktop from an Aero theme to one of the basic themes. When I refresh my desktop it is nearly instantaneous - I can barely see the flash. Your video is dogging down to perform that simple task.

Also, look in your Event Viewer to see if there are any Critical Errors or Warnings that might point you in the right direction.

Hope that helps.

Hello everybody, I entered computer hell a few months ago when my completely ancient geforce2 gts 32 meg graphics card stopped rendering polygons.

Now, I figured this would be just the end of the card's life. It was something like three or four years old and the fan had stopped working on it. I had since replaced most every other part of my machine save the graphics card, so I lived with my machine not rendering 3d anything until I could afford a new card.

Well I got a geforce4 128 meg card, and when I installed it my computer still would not render polygons. I reformatted my machine and tried again, and it worked... for about 48 hours.

It may not be important, but I played Knights of the Old Republic on the fresh format solidly until my wife wanted a game of Diablo, so I installed Diablo, played a game, and when I went back to KotOR the game didn't load (see below). I went on to install the rest of my games and try them with similar results, some of which are listed below.

My current machine I've built myself, it's got:

duron 1.8 ghz processor
foxconn 748k7aa 400 mhz fsb mainboard
768 mb of ddr 400 ram
onboard sound (at the moment, I've got an audigy one I yanked out to see if that was maybe causing issues)
geforce4 mx 4000 agp with 128 meg o ram

None of these parts were installed in my machine when the problem first came up, so I have to assume it's either a software conflict of some kind or:

A:Strange Video Bug (games)

... GPU doesn't have its own fan? Its probably the GPU overheating..

buy a zalman gpu fan (best out there that I know of) and if that doesn't fix it,
update to the latest nVidia forceware drivers from thier website.

And what do you mean it won't render polygons? Polygons are a shape..
Does it not render shapes well?

The PSU looks fine, (but how old?)

Could be the optical drive, since these games have to load files from a CD,
that could be causing the problems.

Solutions: but a GPU fan, buy a new optical CD-Drive.

I am having a strange problem with Media Center. I am using an ATI Theater Pro 650 tuner card connected to analog cable. Everything is perfect except for when the live TV picture is mostly white, I get a squealing sound, and the picture distorts a little. This is when the video stream is mostly white only.

I have the latest drivers for the tuner installed, and have tried old drivers as well.

Any ideas what would cause this?

I have Bearshare V 5.10 (same result with V5.25), no

reason, any .avi file I download ends up as a Video

to play it only shows spiral lines and not the

video. I tried converting it to wmv and avi formats

using the program Super & ended up with junk. I

downloaded a file I downloaded a year ago which

played ok back then, but now ends up as a useless

I have a system that all of a sudden does not display video after the W7 splash screen. This system has a graphics card in it and I had disabled the motherboards graphics port in the BIOS a couple years ago when I built it.

It has worked well ever since I built it but has changed due to either someone messing with it or maybe a windows update.

I currently have the system connected to a TV with an HDMI cable, but I have confirmed with an old monitor, it does the same using the VGA port.

I have also tried to repair using the Windows Repair Disk which strangely enough goes blank after the "Loading Files" screen.

All three options of safe mode stop after a certain amount of files that load. The screen does not go black here; it simply remains frozen with the file list showing.

I tried to do a fresh install of W10 and again goes black after the loading files.

Sorry I am being vague about the Hardware as I would typically look it up from the control panel and the boxes I had for the mother board, processor, GPU, etc are somewhere in the house and will have to find them.

Any ideas on what is going on? Maybe I need ot go into the bios and re-enable the onboard graphics and try that way.

Please bear with me as this video lark is all new to me.

I recently got a Sony TRV245E camcorder and was wondering what the best format is when capturing images on the PC?
I seem to have the choice of AVI or MPEG-1.

The camera does this via USB but also has a 'DV out' connection, would this improve quality at all?

I did a test VCD and when I played it on my DVD player it looked horribly pixilated. I had to use NERO to do this as the Pixela ImageMixer software that came with the camera wouldn't recognise my CDRW drive.

Also as this camera has no 'DV in' is there a way of getting images back ot of the PC and onto VHS tape?

I bought a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse for my laptop. After trying ot for a few days I decided I didn't want it, I boxed it up and returned it to the store the next day after work. When I got home and started to use my laptop again, I noticed it will not go into standby.
It displays the following message...

"The device driver for the "Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS /2 Keyboard device is preventing machine from entering standby. PLease close all applications and try agian. If problem persist you may need to update this driver."

I wrote logitech and asked them what to do and they said after careful consideration of my problem they decided it was a Microsoft problem. It does not interfer with the running of the computer at all, but it just will not go into Standby. I am considering giving this laptop to my niece and purchasing a new one so I would like to solve this problem.

Any help or ideas I could recieve would be wonderful and I really do appreciate your time.

A:A strange question regarding unloading

Go to the add and remove programs and uninstall the logitech software/drivers.

Go to the device manager find the HID compliant devices and get rid of the logitech ones.

run - msconfig and check your start up make sure there arent any logitech entries starting. Uncheck them.

Disable logitech services if any remaining.

You also can go check the control panel. Under keyboard and mouse options you shouldnt see the logitech entries after all.

Hello,

Skype used to let me stream whatever my computer was playing through my microphone to the person I was skyping with. For example, I could play a youtube video and she'd hear my youtube audio through my mic. This is no longer the case. How do I go back to this? If I plug out and plug in my USB microphone again, she can hear both me and the youtube audio(or any audio I'm playing). However, then I can't see her (video freezes) or hear her.

Basically, I want her to be able to listen to the audios I'm playing on my computer through my microphone. Even if I get the mic real close to the speakers, skype samples that audio and gradually mutes it for her.

HELP?

I know this is a weird question, but someone I know seems to think his computer's security has been compromised. He has a wireless card and visits hotels a few times a month, and thinks that some stuff has gotten onto his computer while he was away. I say that while a person can, say, pull up in front of your house and use your satellite, etc., with his laptop and wireless . . . that's something different and signals cannot "cross" while in a public place. I say that other people's stuff, like sites they visit, cannot jump up and appear as history, cookies, spyware, etc on someone else's computer. He thinks that the malware, adware, and spyware that were on his computer caused his computer to visit several sites, repeatedly, and turn the computer on and "use it".

Can someone second me on this that this is not possible?

Ok, here is the lowdown. I have my upstairs computer and my downstairs laptop connected via a Belkin Wireless router. I am using a belkn wireless card in the laptop also. I set up my network a ffew months bakc and everything seemed fine. Now just this week my laptop wont network with my upstairs pc anymore. I cna still get on the internet just fine, but sharing files is the problem. Here is where im very confused though, I pin the router and the computer from the laptop and everything is fine. The upstairs computer see the shared files on the laptop fine also, and even stranger my laptop sees my printer just fine too, but wont see any of the files on the upstairs computer. Ive got windows firewalls turned off and nothing has been switched around. IN the middle of last week the computer kept losing signal with the router but after disabling and fixing it its fine now, so im at like 95% signal on the laptop. Im soo confused here, anyone know what the problem might be, thansk in advance for the time and help!

A:Strange networking question...

Have you checked Simple File Sharing is enabled on all pc's?
Whats the go with your file sharing? Are you wanting to map a drive or have already mapped a drive & now it wont work? Try re-doing it in that case ... but apart from that it cant be anything too technical could it? I mean from what I just read there seems to be no problem with your Network set-up (but double check maybe just to be sure). Are you using Static IP addresses?

Anyway good luck & post back if resolved or in need of more help :grinthumb

I recently upgraded my GF4Ti to a 5700LE and am now having a very strange video problem.

First off I did uninstall the drivers before switching cards, and uninstalled the old card even though they both use the same driver.

When I try to view a video now, the video acts very strangely. The picture inside WMP actually moves around inside the viewing area like it's too big to fit and it's letting it scroll around inside the viewing area. But the picture IS the right size, when it scrolls off to the side, it just shows black and whatever corner of the picture remains in the viewing area. It moves opposite my mouse (for instance if i move the mouse to the right the picture slides off to the left of the viewing area) and only moves up and left or some combination of both.

Secondly when I full screen the video, i get very bad tearing, much like the wind effect in photoshop. This only happens when the video is centered, as even in full screen mode the video will move off to the left or up off the screen as if it's scrolling to show me more... but the picture is the right res.

I am running this throug DVI to a 2000FP (all hardware and software the same as before the card switch) and it's driving me insane! I like to watch videos on my computer a lot and this kills it for me!

I had the exact same tearing problem a few years back with a different video card (don't remember what one) and I don't remember how I fixed it. Any help is GREATLY appreciated... Read more

First off, my PC specs:

AMD Athlon X2 4400+
BFG GeForce 7800GTX OC
2GB Crucial Ballistix PC3200
Windows XP Home

Problem I am having is that recently I have noticed in just about every game an issue with the graphics being sort of accelerated. For example, I was playing Planetside and noticed that any moving animation or a picture of someone walking or something would be speeded up, like in fast forward or something. While walking in the game I was teleporting, sort of like lag issues but the game was progressing at the same rate I was just actually jumping forward very fast and moving fast. Looking from third person perspective the animation of my character running was also in fast forward. This has been happening in a lot of games, sometimes causing them to crash. This is a brand new PC and so I am sure it is not a hardware problem, probably just some setting I need to change. Any suggestions?

I'm using this old PC that can be seen in my profile, it's good for its purpose, but yesterday the VGA started to make some strange noises. I replaced the CPU fan just before it started (it is more powerful than the previous one was), cleaned the whole PC (even the VGA fan for sure), but it does these noises, sounds like it wants to start, but it can't, here you can hear it:

It was doing something similar before it (for around 2 days, nothing before that!), but not this often, and it wasn't that loud and annoying. I was thinking of the PSU it's also some old something, probably 350-400W, maybe because of the new CPU fan it can't get enough power? I'm gonna replace the whole thing probably in January, so I don't want to spend on it until then. Should I stick to the old CPU fan then? Thanks for any suggestions, have a nice day!
