Sound missing from mpg files

Q: Sound missing from mpg files

Firstly, having read the, now closed thread of the same subject: http://forums.techguy.org/multimedia/542396-no-sound-mpg-file.html I have tried various suggestions to no avail. The solution advocated by DKTaber that apparently soved this issue, actually appears to be riddled with viruss'. Not very pleased about that one at all !
So, why has this happened and what is the solution ?

Preferred Solution: Sound missing from mpg files

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Sound missing from mpg files

All mpg files or files from a specific source? Which media player? Have you tried using a different media player?

Open one of the files using gSpot or Media Info. It will list audio and video specs of the file, including the codecs required for playback (and in the case of gspot, if those codecs are installed).

I have been having some malware issues, and received phenomenal help from one of the members (Eddie5659) in that forum. I am now clear of malware, but still having a sound issue. I can hear sounds when I play a file that is hosted on the computer, like itunes, etc., and can hear all the test sounds in the directx sound tester. When I try to play a video on google, youtube, etc, there is no sound.. I do not have any system sounds either.

I think it is related to missing registry files. When I run regedit on my wifes computer, or my laptop, in the drivers32 file are multiple entries, including midimapper and wavemapper. when I run regedit on my computer, in the drivers32 file ther eis only one entry titled "default" and no value set for it. Don't worry, I have never done anything other then look with regedit, since I don't really know what a registry is.

I have searched online for 2 weeks without luck for a fix for this.

any help would be appreciated.

I am running windows xp, service pack 3 on a dell vostro 200.

My sound has been out since I downloaded a certain video game off the internet. Maybee the game wasnt compatible with my comp. Anyway it changed some settings in my sound and I cant get sound to work now. I have gotten all new drivers for it and reinstalled sound card. Now I have no conflicts or error messages and the sound appears to play but i dont hear anything. Windows troubleshooter directed me to go find my system.ini file and look for these two files: wavw=mmsystem.dll and midi=mmsystem.dll. Neither of these are preasent in the system.ini file anymore. I found one of them in my registry so the files are in my com somewhere but they arent being initialized because of this game I downloaded. I got rid of the game download and cannot find it in my system.
How can I get my sound back online?

hello, if anyone can help me out, it would be fantastic.

here's the rundown of what's going on with my computer:
I installed these programs that create a virtual drive on your computer (install drivers and all) so that you can burn cds to the image drives. There were three in all, one was called "noteburner" and another called "sharedrm.." the other i dont remember at all but its icon was an ipod looking thing i think.
i uninstalled these programs and restarted my computer
upon restarting computer, the loading of windows lagged for a long time and then eventually the comp would just restart.
i also started getting the blue screen of death (fatal error) here and there.
after some working around with the computer i managed to get it to boot up again to find that i no longer had sound and my ethernet adapter was not working. Also, the drivers for those virtual drive programs were still in my device manager and in the registry.. i manually deleted all of them and everything from my registry with their names. (i contacted their techservs - and they had no idea)
also, it createed a driver in the network adapters tab called "direct parallel" which i deleted raspti.sys and ptlink.sys (it's two driverfiles) manually - everytime i tried to uninstall normally, there was a message that said "cannot unistall, this device may be needed for the computer to boot" - somewhere in the mess of things i ended up reinstalling service pack 2 as... Try re-installing windows from your Installation CD but instead of doing an Install (after The F8 agreement prompt) you'll select to repair the installation that it finds on your Hard Drive.
Have your Reg Key handy since it will want this too. It will Re-install the hardware drivers without affecting your installed software or the registries

Its bit complicated.
I have 5 year old Compaq Pressario V3611AU notebook with AMD Atholon X2 TK-55 processor. Was using Windows XP and everything working fine. Recently I upgraded RAM to 2GB & processor was changed to AMD Turion(tm) X2 TL-60 2.00Ghz. I installed windows 7 and everything worked fine for a week with no issues.
Recently when switched on it showed red cross on volume device. When I checked in device manager the sound video & Game controller has disappeared.

I checked most of the site but unable to install the exact driver.

Even I tried to add with Legacy Drivers in Device Manager but failed to install the correct driver.Even I re installed my Windows 7 but same issue. When I click on Volume device to fix the issue end up with Hardware Changes has been effected.

Please help me whether it is an issue with Sound Card or with driver.

I've got a situation here whereby .TMP files are appearing in network directories, and the files are going missing. The size of the TMP file matches the original file.
I'm trying to narrow down the issue, because I think there may be two problems here.
1. Offline Files are enabled, to allow profile redirection.    It seems that this is also by default, is allowing Clinet Side Caching when there are network issues.  Does the original file (.doc for example)  get renamed
as a HR234.TMP for example when the Slow link detection sees slow performance?
2.  If the above TMP file is created when there are network issues, should this resolve itself (sync itself back to the network) when performance improves?
Currently we are in a situation where we have a department that have files missing from many network shares, all the missing files seemlingly replaced with a .TMP file, so do we have to go round to every machine in the department, and manually
sync them to resolve this?

Hi, first of I love your website here and everybody is so helpful (I posted here about a year back and I got help right away )

Anyways, I've been having this problem where my sound icon won't appear in the system tray. When this happens I can't adjust the sound using the buttons on my laptop either. I can usually fix this problem by doing a system restore to a week or two ago, but it seems like everytime I restart my computer I get this problem again (I usually just put my computer on standby). I wasn't having this problem for a while because I never turned off my computer (standby ) but I just got a random BSOD while watching a youtube video and when I restarted my computer the same problem occured (no sound icon in system tray and I can't adjust sound with buttons on laptop). I've tried many different things, from simple stuff like going into the control panel and checking "show sound icon in tray" to stuff like editing the registry (I tried googling how to fix this problem). Well I've had this problem for about half a year, and I'm officially sick of it . If any of you know how to fix this I would GREATLY appreciate it! Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone!
Just a few details:
Laptop: HP dv2050us
OS: Windows XP Home SP3

So I was downloading a trial version of nero and my entire computer decided to hate me. I'm pretty sure it was a virus. It changed my registry somehow and has deleted important files to ensure that the computer works.
I'm running XP home and the cute little log-in window doesn't come up anymore (it's just the boring username: password:). Also, I wasn't able to access any of the files in the control panel -- it said I was missing rundll32.exe (I downloaded that and put it in C:/WINDOWS/system32) -- so it works now.

I want to just stick my recovery cds into my computer, but when I do, my computer doesn't read them. I've checked the device manager, and CD-ROM is not there, but I have the option to boot from my CD-Rom drive when I look at my BIOS.

I don't know what to do :(

A:CD/DVD-Rom Drive missing and System Recovery files missing

First thing you're going to want to do is back up any files that you want to keep. Since you can't use your cd drive in windows, you'll have to use a flash drive or an external hard drive. Just copy and paste the files you want to keep onto the storage device (I suggest you do this in safe mode if possible and that you don't copy any (large) folders as there might be hidden files within them that are infected).

Once you've gotten all your files backed up, you have two choices:

1) Follow the steps here and start a new thread in the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum (be patient as the analysts are very busy and it can take a while for them to get to you).

2) Wipe the hard drive with a program like dban and reinstall Windows (this is a good guide on how to reinstall windows; if you don't have the disk with all your hardware drivers that came with the computer, then you should also download all the drivers from the manufacturer's website and save them to a cd/flash drive/external hard drive to help speed up the process; if you go this route, you will also have to reinstall any programs that you currently have on your computer).

You could also try to run a repair install of Windows, but, if it really is a virus, then that probably won't help all that much in the long term

There is no sound (except sys beep) working on my computer. Sound icon is missing. Looked at sound help links. In bios there is no place that i can see to be sure enable is on. I see no place in all the setup area where sound is listed or anything like that.

In deleting sound card, (getting exclamation pt), says PCI multimedia device found - and then i try to load drivers, but i don't know what sound card i have. I've tried lots of different drivers. But i feel that the sound icon missing is causing the underlying problems.

(I just started using this system after not using for a few years.) Last time I used it, somehow I got the sound to work.

Some have suggested is AMD problem, but when i go to that site, it offers 3 categories of m/b's.
AMD Athlon 64™ Processor
AMD Opteron™ Processor
AMD Athlon™ XP, AMD Athlon™ & AMD Duron™ Processors

I chose the last one (?) and downloaded the one that checks drivers, and on running, it says, failed to find any components.

On Accessories/sys tool/sys info/components:
PCI Multimedia Audio Device
This Device Has a Problem: Code=28 (0x1C)
The drivers for this device are not installed correctly. To install the driver for this device, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.

Any help you can give me to get sound working is appreciated.

Thanks, ganaan

I would very much appreciate some help finding my missing files and folders if possible.

I am running windows Vista version 6.0, service pack 2.

I started windows, and noticed that 5 of my desktop folders were missing, and all of the files contained within. A search for document and folder names returned nothing (even with advanced search options). One of the missing folders was called "term 1". I created a new folder, and tried to change the name to term 1. A pop-up told me that this destination (desktop) already contained a folder named "term 1"- did I want to merge these folders? I was confused, because I could no longer see the original term 1 folder. I clicked "yes" hoping that a merge would result in a visible term 1 folder, but now the new folder also disappeared. After some intensive searching, I could not find any of the folders/files that were missing. Some other folders/files were still visible on my desktop though.

I restored my computer to a previous checkpoint (from 2 days ago, after a windows update). After reboot, I received a message that the restore was unsuccessful. At this point, all of my desktop folders and files were gone, aside from windows default desktop icons. A search returned no results. I remembered that restore can fail because of an AV program, so I disabled Norton. I tried to undo the restore, which was successful, but no files/folders returned. I then tried to do a restore to a checkpoint from befor... Read more

My wife received a popup box warning about a problem with the hard drive. She called me over and we didn't click OK but the damage must have already been done.

All of the files appear to be gone. All of the program files and documents that should be in my documents appear empty. Thanksfully I could see GMER scanning all of these missing files so it looks like they are just hidden. I am not taking any action to recover these as I know how that can cause other virus issues so I am just waiting for help.

The computer seems to be working OK in that I have internet access and the programs that show up in the upper left of the start menu can be launched (IE, Outlook, and a Bridge Game that I play) but all of the other 'All Programs' appear empty.

Attached is are log files. I couldn't send to zip file due to computer issue so I am attaching the txt files.

I have been trying to encrypt a folder using PGP 9.0.6 and Cryptainer Secure It 3.1.7.

What's weird is that the folder and the files within it will not encrypt and I don't know why? Further more the folder will actually be missing files. Can anybody explain to me? No, I am not setting the applications to erase files after completion.

PGP Conventional Encryption has worked finally. I tried all the obvious stuff first like closing all non-essential volumes (virtual disk that are created and encrypted by PGP), transferring the files to another drive, etc.

On a slightly separate issue. I did have some data corruption involving an older and separate group of files. However I deemed that to a hardware failure or a OS/Software failure. Figured it might provide valid insight.

Update: Now my PGP conventional encryption, non .exe file generation worked. I don't understand why it wouldn't work? Going to rename the source folder and try again. MY encrypted .exe file generation with PGP should work.

I tried again. PGP conventional encryption and PGP Zip both encrypted fine. I tried creating a PGP .exe file and again it failed and files are missing; why?

I've done a full virus scan and spyware scan. No known threats detected that would cause this. I've done two system wipes in the past months. I've also removed, reinstalled, and or repaired the installation of both a... Read more

I've had this computer (HP Pavilion dv2000)for about 4 years and despite my best efforts it's started to get a little bogged down.. SO a while ago I used some free registry cleaning software (Eusing Registry Cleaner, Window Registry Repair & Registry Repair Wizard 2011) to try to get rid of clutter on my lap top in hopes that it would run a little better. I know, I know, let me save everyone the time of telling how stupid it was to do this when I don't know that much about computers! SO as you can imagine after my little cleaning spree I started having some weird problems but mostly related to Internet Explorer. I tried to undo whatever I did but nothing worked. I actually had to stop using IE all together because I kept getting errors and couldn't get to some websites at all. It seemed to be a security setting issue but no matter what changes I made nothing would fix it. So I switched to Firefox which has been a lot better but not perfect. So now its pretty obvious that my computer is missing some files? .... drivers? ....something because I am basically unable to execute most setup files that I download and my Norton anti-virus seems to not be able to run its periodic scans correctly. Lately the computer seems to be worse, buggy, slow, freezes up and I suspect that there is a virus somewhere but no virus scan, adware scan, etc. that I've been able to run (Spy Bot, Bit Defender) finds anything and I'm to afraid to even look at the registry now... I am totally baffeled with my problem.

I know files and folders are on my computer. When I go to the path they should be they do NOT show up.

For instance
I go to my computer
click c:\
I am looking for the directory "Documents & Settings"
It is not there.

I try using the cmd and use dos commands to check for the directory and it IS there. I tried the "unhide" files and folders thing and it didn't work. I also tried while in dos mode the attrib -h *.* and that didn't work.

this is causing a great problem because the file path that i am looking for
contains the conversions files and folders of converted and burned movies and as a result is taking up a lot of space that I can't get at to delete.

the path I am trying to get to reads:
c:\documents and settings\J\My Documents

It's there when I seek it out in the DOS mode, but "NOT" there when I use any explorer mode under my operating system, Windows XP sp3

I looked around in the forum here and can't seem to find a solution that fits this.

PLEASE if anyone got a solution it would be appreciated.

A:Missing Files & Missing Folders

Let's start by finding J.

Click start, search, enter J in the search field and go.

Is it found?

Hello friends,

I am in a bit of a bind. I simply clicked the "show hidden files" option on my C:/Users folder. Inside of 20 seconds, my libraries are all rearranged and none of my files are where I put them originally. They have seemingly vanished.

I downloaded ShadowExplorer and thankfully confirmed that I can still open my files when I refer back to an earlier restore point within the program, but when I go to restore the files, they don't go back to where I send them. I don't know where my files are, nor how to access them outside of this ShadowExplorer program.

I did try a regular 'ol Windows system restore, but those don't affect files, so the problem remains. Anyone have any idea what the hell I did and how I might go about fixing it?

Thank you immensely for your consideration.

A:Show hidden files --> Files now missing

Hello Snapdragon, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you have not already, see if checking the "don't show hidden files" option will revert them back to how you had them before.

Double check the libraries to make sure that the folders you had included in them are still included.

In addition, see if setting each library to View -> "Sort by -> Name", "Group by -> (None)", and "Arrange by -> Folder" may reveal them.File and Folder Arrangement - Group by - Sort by - Arrange by
Hope this helps for now,

Can someone review my HJT log? I did a scan to see if I could find anything suspicious because my computer has recently been a bit laggy and I can't figure out why. I keep it clean with AdAware, Symantec Professional, Spybot, RegClean, and I also defrag at least once a week or every 2 wks. So I am at a stand-still on why it's laggin, therefore I ran a HJT scan and came up with the following "missing files":

dimsntfy.dll (Winlogon Notify entry) (which I manually searched and found it in System32 and ServicePackFiles\i386 folders even though it said it was missing)

jqs.exe (Java Quick Starter Service entry) This is a new service since the latest java update that seems to run continuously in my processes even though I read online that it was only supposed to run during bootup, then stop. I found this file also in Program Files\Java\jre6\bin.

Can someone review my HJT log and tell me if i can click the "fix checked" button to remove these entries without causing any problems? Thanks.

Hello to all!

I'm new to this forum and obviously i'm not sure if this is the right place for starting and posting this thread.

Since i'm pritty desperate i'm going to explain the best i can what is really happening and how it all started:

since a few days ago i was noticing that a few files, specifically mp3 files are missing from my music collection. I managed to recover the missing ones and transfer the whole collection to a new drive without issues. Today i've found that some recently downloaded files, including several mp3's where missing again from the new HDD. I started to look around the internet abut the problem and what could be the reasons that causes my files to "vanish" from my HDD. As i was reading, i stoped at one thread in other's site forums that related to some "security" and "user privileges" issues in Win 7. I then tried to "fix" the problem but noticed that the files where still missing.

Next thing i tried was looking for the missing files in some AppData subfolder named something like "virtual backup" or something. That was the last time i saw the "user" folder and the last time y accessed my local drive. Turned out the folder just dissapeared from the screen after a short "access denied" dialog box (error). After that, all of my desktop icons dissapeared and my c: drive went like it's empty and can't be accessed, still i can see the drive lying there and every time i run a virus ... Read more

Viruses do things like that. The scenario sounds familiar. Scan with Malwarebytes. The free version is good enough.

I am running Audacity on a new 64 bit computer, running Vista. I had got my sound really good, good enough to do voice auditions, but now when I convert my Wav file to mp3 and send it to myself, the sound is awful. Why is there such a difference, when it sounds so good in Audacity or on my file converter?

I apologize in advance for posting this twice. I think I may have put it originally in the wrong area.

I had terrible problems with spyware and some trojans. I received much help here and fixed that right up. No problems with that now but I still have some issues that haven't been corrected and I don't have a windows XP CD. It didn't come with my computer and I never bought one. Here's the problems I've noticed just so far......

1) No search option under start, search. Nothing shows but a blank box and the dog. I have no way to do a search for files or to choose options for a search.

2) In my control panel, when I click on both IE troubleshooting link and Network Diagnostics link does nothing.

3) I have no system restore. When I click on it, it does nothing.

4) I switched to Firefox as my browser since I encountered all of the problems with trojans, etc. so I can't get windows updates unless I use IE. When I click on IE and go to tools, windows update, I get a blank page. Nothing on it. It's the same way if I go directly to the microsoft homepage and try it from there. Blank page again.

5) No way to use windows media player. Apparently I downloaded something with my current version and now it's disabled and had to be uninstalled. I installed a new version but after the set up, I received an error message and it closes right up. I don't even have time to write down what it says.

Now, the programs I have downloaded to fix my problems with ads and trojans or... Read more

A:I think I have missing files or corrupt files

noadaware is not a recommended program there are plenty of free programs available without buying them
did you receive any restore disks with the computer as you can make an xp disk from the restore disk
some comps you have to make your restore disks from the computer yourself, from what i have read
is there a sticker on the back or the side of the computer with the xp serial on it
borrow a copy of xp and in the run box type
sfc /scannow
and press enter
if it finds anything wrong with the system files it will ask for the xp disk to repair them

A:missing files/deleted files????????

Okay, I am assuming that you can login to windows just fine so...

1. Start Menu
2. Run
3. Type in: sfc /scannow
4. System will check for corrupted/ missing files. It will prompt you to insert your XP install cd if a file is missing.
5. It will take a while to run, but it whould be worth it :)

I was recently asked to look at a laptop that would not load windows. It booted past the BIO's but frooze getting into the login screen. Repair startup failed. Could not be repaired and told to contact my support team. A memory test allowed me to login to windows. How ever nothing would open. Start menu would work but no applications would start. The Hard drive said it was in a bad state.
I installed Linix Mint and managed to recover all needed files. I then tried to reinstall windows. Both CD's stop at expanding files 0% then errors can not be installed. Files missing. I have seen on the web in might be todo with the speed i recored the image iso at???
I then fired up a linix live cd and deleted the old windows and linix partition with gParted. Now not even Linux will install. If i allow the laptop to boot it will come up grub recovery(linuxs recovery).
seems i cant do any thing now. Have i not partioned the HDD right?
any ideas and thanks

A:Expanding files 0% Files missing

The Hard drive said it was in a bad state.
What reported the hdd to be in a bad state?
Most all hdd manufacturer's have diagnostic tools which you can download as an ISO file, you then can burn this to a CD and boot from it to run the diagnostic test.  If you will pull the hdd out and post the manufacturer I will post a link to a site where you can download the file.

Did you install the drivers after you installed XP (and all of the Windows updates)?
Go to Start...Run...and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Are there any devices with red X's or yellow !'s?

In particular, there's an issue with some systems that have High Definition Audio - which requires an update from Microsoft BEFORE installing the High Definition Audio drivers.

Please let us know the exact make and model of the system so we can do some more research on this.

So, I wake up this morning, boot up my PC, try to play some music.
But I hear nothing. Thinking something is wrong, I try another song, doesn't work.

No sound comes out of my speakers, I tried all my songs, then Youtube. Nothing.
Thinking my speakers were busted, I unplud them and instead try my head phones, it doesn't work...

I check the sound settings and it says there are no Sound Devices.

Help please? It worked yesterday...

Thanks in advance.

This must be elementary but I get no sound when I try to play a music cd or play a file of someone being interviewed on the web. I have reloaded my sound card driver and my speakers work, so I get 'system' sounds when my speakers are turned on. I am running windows XP Pro and have reloaded Windows Media Player 11. After launching WMP 11 I can run one of the music files but there is no sound. What am I missing.

Hi there,

Could missing sound be due to the the following setting on my BIOS Boot menu, or has that nothing to do with it at all?

I am loathe to change these things without knowing what they do, so wondered if anyone knew!

The machine is a Dell and appears to be running Dell Bios.

Just wondering if it potentiall could be that setting that has turned the sounds off from my work pc.

I am still struggling along with an old computer running on XP but recently I needed to replace the <START> push button. This required the removal of the front panel. The button was replaced, as was the front panel after which I discovered that the output to my stereo system was no longer working.
I have checked that all the wiring is in order.
I have looked at the device manager and nothing there has any yellow warnings.
Can anyone suggest how to get the sound back.

I have sound only when I play CD’s or my stored videos.

No system sound and no sound when and I click on web videos.

Under sound and Audio Devices Properties shows:

“No Audio Devices”

Also, in the control penal I lost the Multi Channel Sound Manager I can’t find it anywhere on my C: drive and in the Accessories/Entertainment tap I have no volume control.

In services: I re-stared the windows sound. I reinstalled Directx vs.9.0C, one file was missing!

In the Device Manager/System devices: I up-dated the driver for the Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator. That driver update made my CD’s and movie sound come back.
Still no web video sound or system sound.
All worked well before, until some automatic up-dates got installed. I un-installed them bud the damage was done. Now the automatic up-dates are disabled for good!

System Info: Hp Media Center PC M270n
Windows XP. Pro/PS2 installed! Sound: Realtek 97’ audio driver.

I came to the end of the tunnel, but I see no light!

Please, give me some ideas:
Thank you,
