Preferred Solution: can you tell me if this is a good gaming comp

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I am really unsure if this is the right section or not, but I really need to know if this is a good laptop and I am getting my moneys worth. Again if this is the wrong section PLEASE move.

BTW: This is a laptop.

I might be purchasing the following for $800, LMK wut u think.

Dell Inspiron 5150 Laptop:

Pentium 4 Processor 3.06 GHZ
Upgraded Liquid Crystal Display with ultra high resolution options
1.25 GB Kingston RAM, upgradable to 2GB
64MB ATI Radeon 9000 Mobility Video Card
60GB Harddrive
DVD-RW

So we're looking at basically 1 gig ram, 3GHZ

The whole comp itself is basically upgraded to all ends. The screen does look really nice as it is a liquid display.

The RAM is very high for a laptop and the processor beats the doors off most of the previous comps which I have had (2.39GHZ)

I am getting a laptop because I travel mostly. I also game alot.

I know the video card isnt best for high end games but I play a game called Diablo mostly which requires next to nothing, altho I will replace the video card soon. How much would it cost to upgrade to a decent one do u think?

So I think its a pretty fast system, good deal?

A:Good Deal/Good Comp? (Laptop)

i dont really compare laptop prices but the prices seems pretty good to me. that is one power laptop in my opinion. way faster than mine.

Alright, we, as a family are getting a new computer before 07 ends, and for once, I'd like to have a decent computer for gaming.

Anyway, with games made these, days how many are actually for/put onto mac? Any of the popular ones? Would I be able to find mac games in walmart, or these days, do games just work for both OS's? I'm highly unexperienced with new macs, the closest thing I know about is those old, huge macs from the 90's.

I also heard that when used for gaming, a mac's specs are more powerful than a PC's?

Like, for example. 800mhz Mac = 1.5ghz PC? Equal or greater to?

Any help with this decision is greatly appreciated, thanks.

A:Getting a new comp - PC or Mac for gaming?

Most games are designed for PC's. Some of the more heavily developed engines are cross-platform, but the majority are designed for PC's, as well as newer gaming hardware, like new video cards. If you are seriously interested in gaming, I would go with a PC, but if you really want a mac, you can, a lot of new games are available for it, as shown here. And places like Wal-Mart would probably have them for sale, probably in a separate Mac section, or any store that sells Mac's.

I think it was a 256mb video card, am i only limited to that, or can i go find something else with Geforce 8400 in the name with more memory and better stats and be able to equip it into by computer?

256 MB video memory makes no difference for WoW (if you don't play on 1920x1200 resolutions). That card will improve your performance quite much. And it isn't unavailable, BTW.

Hi everyone. So I've had this problem for quite a while now. Tried quite a few different things but mainly just living with it at this point. Getting this out there to see if anyone might have some ideas as to what the culprit is.

PC specs:
Intel Core Duo 2.7ghz
3gig ram
Windows XP (with sp3)
Nvidia Geforce 9600GT

PC was custom built myself a few years ago. At the time I made sure the power supply was sufficient to run everything well. (But i'm not convinced that its not the problem)

On to the Issue. It only happens while playing a game.

At seemingly random times, my textures in game will go bonkers, sometimes buildings will turn bright white and other strange translucent colors, sometimes weird textures will appear randomly everywhere. such as a 2D image of a building or character just sitting on the ground somewhere, replacing the ground texture. It's quite a trippy experience to say the least.

This problem I can remedy everytime by opening the video settings and changing my texture quality. I usually go back and forth between low and medium as the problem presents itself.

While this is slightly annoying the real problem is that randomly (sometimes once every two days and sometimes twice in twenty minutes) my computer will freeze completely and can only be fixed with a reboot. This occurs differently depending on the game and other unkown factors. Sometimes I'm able to remain on skype with my friend and talk to him about how stupid it is that my PC j... Read more

Whats up guys as you can see im a new to PC gaming. Im ready to buy a gaming computer but wanted to know if it is really necessary to spend the extra money for a dual processing card (i was gonna go with the AMD anthlon 64 X2 4200) Will this make a impresive improvment in the gaming perfomance of the comp? Im not into multitasking. The computer will be more for gaming or surfing the web and a little music downloading. It will have the NVidia nforce 4 sli chipstet MB w/ dual 16x pci express and (2) NVidia Geforce 6800 xt 256mb DDR3 Powered by Xmdia. What Processor would you recomend. Mater of fact its Cyberpowerinc's Gamer Ultra SLI Elite computer its in the new "Computer Shopper" magazine on page 40. All answer will be appreciated.

A:Gaming Comp Processor Q

hi

if you are only going to use it for gaming then there is no need to buy a dual core CPU (yet, eventually all games will probably be coded for multicores)
So you are probably better of getting a FX-55/57... if you can afford it of course.

Personally I bought a dual core, though I am a gamer, I thought that the processor would stay with me for a while so wanted to make it future "proof" (if there is such a thing) also my thoughts was also that there is always something else, apart from the game, using up processing power like teamspeak etc so it is still a good idea to have dual core.

But back to your original question, no it wont make any difference to the actual game

Alright, so I'm a college student and between work-study and the occasional random job, I've got a bit of extra cash that I don't immediately need to throw at tuition, so I figured it's about time for a computer upgrade. My troubleshooting thread here ended with the conclusion that my old comp's hard drive is shot, and as my graphics card could probably use an upgrade too, I figured I might as well get a new system.

Price Range: Obviously, the target would be around 1000 bucks. I could probably stretch to around 1200ish and of course if I waited a bit longer, I'd have more money. But... waiting sucks.

My old system:

I have an ASUS NZXT gaming computer and a simple View Sonic monitor.

The monitor is connected to the computer properly, yet every time I manage to get the computer turned on, the monitor reads, "No signal."

The computer sometimes

will not even come on and I have to toy around with the voltage switch (116,230; 116 usually works) and hold the power button to get it to work. Even so, the monitor is not recognizing the computer. When the computer is on, even when it's not recognized, the computer will shut on and off by itself.

I bought a new DVI cord thinking that would solve the problem, but to no avail.

I recently moved so I'm wondering was the computer messed up during the move?

WinXP Prof
DX 9.0
Geforce4 Ti4200 128Mb(Driver 4.1.0.9, 11/18/2002)
Dell 17" monitor, little old...

First, the problem in the subject, then something else.

Ok, within the last week, if I play a full screen game, any game, my computer will seem to go into sleep mode after 1-2 minutes. The monitor powers down, the sound goes off, but the comp doesn't turn off completely. It will stay running fine all day in windows, but as soon as I fire up a game... poof.

So far, I've upgraded from dx 8.1 to 9.0, and updated my video card drivers to the latest version.

My other problem is that I cannot run my processor at full speed. If I turn it up to full, and again, try to play a game, my computer will lock. There will be a split second of static in the sound, and the screen is just froze.

I don't know if there's a connection, but does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks in advance.

A:Which processor and mobo for gaming comp?

Its likely the first one, as has the highest clock speed. However, none of them are really going to be very useful for gaming on all the very oldest of games.

Some more information is required on the sorts of games you wish to play before even spending some money, as what your hoping for might not be possible for the budget you have in mind.

Buying in Ireland, or online is fine.

I recently installed Halo:Combat Evolved and Doom 3 on my computer which I thought was pretty good and would run games really well. Unfortunately, I have to run Doom 3 on 640 resolution and Halo on 800, disabling high quality textures and shadowing, etc. Even then they are still really choppy. I have a P4 2.8 Ghz, Windows xp pro, 512 RAM, 800 Mhz FSB, GeForce FX 5600 128 Mb video card, and plenty of hard drive space. It's really annoying that I paid about a thousand dollars for it and it has really crappy quality. Please send help before I put my head through my monitor. Thanks.

Hi all. Hope one of yahs can help me out.

2 wenesdays ago I constructed my first comp, and to my amazement I managed to put it together flawlessly.

I'm a heavy gamer. Lots of FPS, and WoW. I play around 3-10 hours a, day depending on the day.

This morning I wake up and boot up my comp. Everything is fine. I log into World of Warcraft and play for around 5 minutes before suddenly my comp just shuts down. Almost like as if someone pushed the power button.

I'm thinking "WTF?", so I check my monitor and speakers and sure enough they are powered on, and responding. I tried to turn the comp back and on and nothing happened. I checked inside the tower and the motherboard LED light is on. The orange enet light is also on.

At the moment I don't have the hardware to test swap (I will on monday). I was hoping that some of you may have overcome this problem before. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Here are my comp parts in case they may help.

MB Asus P5ND2-SLI NF4SLI 775
VGA Asus N EN6800GT/2DT/256MB R
CPU INTEL P4 630 800M LGA775 2M R

A:My new comp shut down while gaming, won't turn back on!

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Check all cables/connections etc.

Try a different psu. If that doesn`t help, then it`s probably the mobo or cpu that`s died.

Hi all. Our 5 - 6 year old HP pavilion a250n just decided to die on us, and rather than try and fix the issue, it's smarter to just go out and buy a new computer.

We've got a toshiba modem and a linksys router, as well as one wireless HP printer and one HP psc 2210 that does not have wireless capabilites, as it is also a good 6 years old. Our moniter is a Kogi (some way offbrand, which is also 6 years but running strong.) We also have a backup power supply to protect from surges, can't think of the brand off the top of my head.

We'll need Windows because we have 3 zunes in the house, and need to run adobe illustrator. We've had XP for the last 6 years, and we're comfortable with XP, but from what I hear it's smarter to upgrade to Vista.

Which in upgrading to Vista I know that we would need more RAM. We currently have two 512 sticks of DDR2, so if we could find a computer running with DDR2 would it be smart to maybe stick with a lower amount of ram on the new comp and just put in that extra gb?

For the size of the harddrive, we don't really have anything TOO big. We do have a lot of pictures and music, more than the average household, but a small hard drive would be sufficient. However, is it smarter to just get a large hard drive right off the bat, or maybe buy an external hard drive and stick with a smaller hard drive?

Pentium or AMD processor? Dual core, or quad core? Is there a difference?

As far as a CD/DVD drive, are litescr... Read more

Since it sounds like you want a different case anyway, I'd just go ahead and build my own, if I were you. You'll save money and be able to choose exactly what components you want.

A:Is this a good PC for gaming?

An idea

If you go to ebuyer/newegg/scan or any major hardware etailor.com you can price up all of the parts individually. Then you could see the total and you would know if you are getting a bargain or not.

From the spec I would think that you would have a great time with gaming on that rig.

Ciao!

A:Pc good for gaming?

Decent, 9500 GT is a bit weak for modern gaming though. Also, the 400W power supply has to be of high quality to really be enough for that. Corsair, OCZ, Enermax, Seasonic, Silverstone, PC Power & cooling...

With regards to the graphics card, you may want to wait a few months for the Radeon 5xxx series, they should be cheaper per performance, more energy efficient, and will have DX 11 capability...

RAM, standard 3GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM
Hard Drive details 400GB 7200RPM SATA
NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE

I know it would need a new grphics card (I was looking at a nvida 9600 GT) but other than that is it ok

Yes but it would be better with 4 GB of Ram instead of 3 GB.

Hi all,

I have a intel Q9505 CPU on a Intel mobo with 4gb mem (I will upgrade to 8Gb mem). I was wondering if I can just get a good video card for gaming or do you guys suggest a total new PC?

A:Good enough for gaming?

LGA775 is dying but if you are strapped for cash, spending $160-200 (assuming your PSU is adequate) on a card would keep you going awhile. To give you a performance reference, the Core2 Quad performs on par with the current i3's. If current gaming benchmark's of the i3 is satisfactory, then you are good for awhile. If you think you need i5 or better performance, then a new system would be recommended.

Hello, hi i just bought this laptop about 2 days or so ago, and i was wondering would these components in it be good for a game called Dragonica Online? because i play and it seems to lagg and i dont know what the problem is so here is what my info says:

Model: HP G61 Notebook PC

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II Dual-Core M300 2.00 GHz

Installed memory (RAM): 3.00 GB (2.75 GB usable) (i already have the game installed)

System type: 64-bit Operating System

Now i installed it the first day and it ran so smoothly but here is what else i have well this is what Cpu-z tells me anyways.

Clocks (Core #0):

Core Speed: 798.0 MHz

Multiplier:x4

Bus Speed: 199.5 MHz

HT Link: 1595.9 MHz

Cache:

L1 Cache: 2 x 64 KBytes (2-Way)

L2 Cache: 2 x 512 KBytes (16-Way)

Now this is the type of Graphics Card i have.

AMD M889G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200

And underneath it it says Memory: Size 336 MBytes

Now i know completley nothing about computers and laptops exept for how to use them and stuff like that and i am also running Windows 7 which i heard is horrible for gaming and i always thought the operating system had nothing to do with how games will run but what do i know right? well can some1 please explain to me why this game is lagging? it only takes up about 400MB on my pc or so so idk why this is happening if some1 could please help me out and tell me what i am missing this would be great thank you for wasti... A:Would this be good for gaming?

Laptops in general are not designed for gaming, and your ATI Mobility Radeon 4200 is probably only designed for some HD video and very light gaming. I've never heard of Dragonica Online, but I assume it's just a MMORPG and doesn't sound like a very demanding game, so you may want to check your internet connection/wireless card to see if that's causing the lag.

Hello!

I want to buy a new gaming PC, and I was looking around for something good. Someone recommended me this build:

Motherboard: ASRock 990FX Extreme3
Fan: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003
Graphic card: Asus GTX760-DC2OC-2GD5
PSU: XFX TS Series 550W
HDD: Corsair Vengeance - DDR3
Processor: AMD Black Edition - AMD FX 6350

I'll have to pay around 873 euros for this PC. This includes Windows 7, 1 year warranty, anti virus (Bullguard Anti Virus), and a Sharkoon gaming set (keyboard and mouse).

Is this worth it? Can I play games like League of Legends with no lag? Is it a good pc for its price?? Any advice is much appreciated since I don't have that much knowledge on PCs. I thank you in advance for helping me!

A:Will this be a good gaming PC?

Well that price translates to about 1200 US dollars. IMO you can build a much better pc for that price. I would check out TS's PC buying guide. Their enthusiast level machine seems like a much better deal than the one you posted. Check it out here: http://www.techspot.com/guides/buying/page4.html

Minus the sound card and maybe a cheaper case it is about the same price as the one you posted.

Cheers
