Lenovo Y50 intel(R) Management Engine interface Driver not working

Q: Lenovo Y50 intel(R) Management Engine interface Driver not working

i'm running windows 10, 64bit, up to date on Windows updates, about a year ago i had an incompability problem with the Intel(R) management engine interface driver, i tired everything, rolling it back, update it, uninstall and re-install, every troubleshooting option and i read so many articles, even windows defender acknowledge the problem but can't fix it with no use
i tried fixing it with a Microsoft support agent before and with the remote desktop help, Cortana had a problem too he fixed it, but the driver he said the there is nothing we could do about it because it's just an incompatible update and that we should just wait for the correct update to come in.Ever since then my laptop do crazy things on sleep, hibernate and shutdown, so i was only finding some workarounds the problem, the sleep mode when it wake up it restart so i switched to hibernating, the new things happens now when i shut down it, it opens weird now like, the keyboard lights up then lights down and the power bottom the same, then either they just stop and i have to hit the power button again or they lights of for seconds and everything runs normalNow i just experiened a bluescreen restart because of it, anyone could advise me on a solution?RegardsNada

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hey all,

The motherboard I'm working with is an ASUS H97M-E, and the latest driver for the Intel MEI (Management Engine Interface) is currently installed from the ASUS support website. However, in device manager, there appears to be a problem with it. I can't figure it out.

The driver installation went without a hitch, and the repair install and uninstall/reinstall went well also. Your help is appreciated (and of course, rewarded ).

Thanks in advance!

I own an Inspiron 5558 laptop.  For the past few months, this Intel Management Engine Interface Driver keeps asking to update the software.  I have tried both a complete removal followed by a reinstall and just a repair.  After both sequences I restarted the laptop.  It is still asking to update the software.
I am out of warranty on my laptop but would still appreciate any/all suggestions to resolve this.
Thank you!

A:Intel Management Engine Interface Driver keeps asking to update

I'm having the exact same issue.  My  wife got a new XPS so I dusted off her old 5558 and put an SSD in it, reformatted and seemed to get everything updated.  I had dell update installed and I think that's what was causing the once a day notification updates.  I also have supportassist installed.  With support assist when you launch it (it doesn't start on startup) it will notify you but I don't think we have the need to open that every day.  Maybe once a month or so?
Which Dell update programs do you have installed?
I know there's Dell Command but that looks similar to supportassist.

Hi mate

You can check the Device ID and the Vendor ID using the pci database.
This would help you to get more details about the device which needs the driver.

Here is a nice FAQ how to check this:

I found also the Intel Management Engine driver for other notebook series:

Basically what the title says, I installed IMEI (Intel Management Engine Interface) driver AFTER installing Chipset, VGA, Audio, LAN, Wireless...etc drivers. Does that make a difference? Is there a possibility that because of this Windows will perform worse than if I had done otherwise? Does driver installation order matter at all? I really don't know... When I Googled it I found some people saying Chipset and IMEI should be installed first and other people saying that it really doesn't make a difference. I don't know which to trust... please help me out?

Also sorry for asking something so basic, just did a first Windows 7 clean install for the first time so I'm kind of a newbie

I have a problem with the driver for Intel Management Engine Interface on my Windows 7 64 bit PC. I have been trying to sort this with HP Support but after following all their advice without solving the problem they now suggest a re-install of Windows 7.

What I would like to know is in simple terms, what does the Intel Management Engine Interface do? Is it essential? What are the likely effects of this problem?

My PC seems to be running just fine apart from the error message for the Intel Management Engine Interface. Should I bite the bullet and do a complete re-install or should I just ignore it?

All advice gratefully received.

Hi: The only suggestion I can offer would be to try manually installing the driver as follows. Go to the device manager and click on the problem IMEI device. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file (assuming you ran sp63661). That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp63661. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and see if the driver installs that way.

I have DELL Inspiron 15R 5520 laptop with processor Intel i5-3210M and the system is working pretty well but i have some questions about Intel Management Engine Interface.
1- Is this component important or necessary for my system ?
2- If i disable IME Interface in Device Manager, could this harm my system or cause a negative impact on my laptop's performance ?
Please clear things up for me and Merry Christmas everyone.

A:Intel Management Engine Interface

You can disable it without any performance or functionality compromises you?d likely care about, but if you?re thinking about doing that for security reasons, that won?t be effective. The Intel ME is essentially a co-processor that runs underneath the OS, and the drivers just allow things like pop-up notifications within Windows for things going on in Intel ME and I think a configuration interface ? but exploitable vulnerabilities remain exploitable because they run underneath the OS. For example, if your system was ordered with the vPro Advanced Features option, it has a full-blown VNC interface at the hardware level that allows you to remotely control the system even while it?s shut down. However, that option is typically not ordered, and even when it is, that VNC functionality (called Intel AMT KVM) is not enabled by default.

Now, how on earth do I know what driver I need to download for the device???

It also tells me I need to do a custom installation and then reinstall applications, does this mean "Clean Install"? I want to do CLEAN anyway.

A:Intel (R) Management Engine Interface

My two cents on this is:Do a clean install. There are so many potential and unforseen issues that you could run into if you "upgrade" to Win 7, no matter what OS you jump up from. Back up all of your data, personal stuff and important information and start from scratch.Get the drivers first that you know you will need for Win 7 before you get to the install. Especially drivers for you Network Interface Card (NIC).That's just my thoughts on the matter. Best of luck.

Hi there,I'm having a problem with my Thinkpad L412. I installed Windows 10 from scratch, no other programs or tools besides Windows 10 are installed. (The issue I'm having also occurs when I tried the same with Win 7)When I turn off the PC by Windows> Shut down, the system shuts off and the screen becomes dark, but the PC stays on and stops reacting, the only way to turn it off is by pushing the physical button on the PC and then the PC will power off but will automatically start again and I need to push the button again to power it off and only then it will stay off.The PC will start without issues.I found posts that this behaviour could be caused by the Intel Management Engine Interface, which funny enough, has an yellow admiration symbol in Device Management. It also gives a message which says that the device can not be started (Code 10).The driver seems to be the correct one, though. After deleting it will be reinstalled by Windows so I can not get rid of it. Lenovo also states that this is the correct driver.I tried ideas like disconnecting battery and CMOS battery, downgrading BIOS from 1.39 to 1.35 but nothing helped.I also tried the Intel Driver Update Utility. It suggested installing a file Intel Chipset Device Software, but that installation failed with 'unknown error'So I'm running out of ideas and any suggestion and any help is very much appreciated!Thinkpad L412Intel Core i3 CPU M370 @ 2.40GHzWindows 10 Pro x64 (Creators Update)Intel Managemen... In Device Manager I have an ! against Intel Management Engine Interface.

In Driver Properties it says:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)
An invalid parameter was passed to a service or function.

I have also seen errors related to this in a recent Perfmon report.

I have tried to update the driver (right click on it in Device Manager, check on Dell website, check with Intel Driver Update Utility) but all these methods say I have the up to date one.

On my other Dell laptop (same spec) the same version of this is running without a problem. On that laptop there was an update in mid November that I don't have on the problem laptop. I have a feeling that I did a System Restore back around that time that affected a few things, and this may have been one of them. I thought I had kept a screenshot of this, but must have deleted it so I can't be sure.

Question is: how can I get this working again?

Should I try uninstalling and reinstalling it?

If so, what is the best (and most foolproof) way to do this? Can I do it from the right click options in Device Manager, for example? I'm a bit concerned that, if I uninstall it I may not get the correct version back again.

I have Gigabyte GA-H55-S2 rev 1.3 with i3-540 on Win10 Pro (x64)
Also tried with windows 7x64 ultimate but same problem.
And one other thing i think might be related to this problem, when I shutdown my pc it says it's shutting down, screen shuts like it should but the machine inside is still working (coolers, graphics etc.). I need to hard shut down by pressing the power button
for a couple of seconds to shut down. Restarting does shutdown the pc but it boots up normally. Both shutting down and restarting takes about 30 secs each which is not normal, never had this problem before.
Any possible solutions?
I have tried the answers on a post here where the problem was solved but it does not solve it for me.
Thanks forwards.

Since repairs to my XPS 8700 carried out by Dell (including the replacement of the motherboard) and the reloading of windows 10, I have been experiencing very long restart times taking on average 110 seconds from hitting the restart button to the screen coming back up (it is the restart not the shutdown that is taking the time). This is only on restart and not when the machine boots up from being off. Whilst investigating this problem I came across an error in device manager where, under “system Devices” there is a yellow exclamation mark next to Intel Management Engine Interface. On double clicking the device status is “This device cannot start. (Code 10) STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE” The driver is listed as Intel 07/07/2015 Version: As per Dell’s instructions I have updated the Management Engine drivers, confirmed that I have the latest version of the BIOS and finally I have reinstalled the ME drivers. All Dell drivers including the chipset drivers are up to date.
I have discovered that if I disable the Intel Management Engine Interface (device manager - Intel Management Engine Interface - right click - disable) the restart times are acceptable at about 30 seconds or less.
Yesterday Dell took control of my PC and spent an hour or so redoing all the actions I had already taken and finally thought it might be another faulty motherboard. At that point they decided the Motherboard needed replacing. After review they have now reneged on ... Read more

Hi, Try the following. Open Settings and select System.  Select Power and sleep, then click on Additional power settings - in the following window, click on 'Choose what the power button does' in the left hand pane. In the subsequent window, first click on 'Change settings that are currently unavailable' ( near the top of the Window ) and then remove the checkmark from the box against 'Turn on fast start-up (recommended)'.  Click the Save Settings button, then close any open windows and restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, download the IMEI driver directly from Intel on the following link, unzip the package and run the installer. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26127/Intel-Management-Engine-Consumer-Driver-for-Intel-NU... When the installation has completed, restart the notebook. When the machine has reloaded, re-enable Fast Start-up and reboot the notebook once again - let Windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K
