Hi All, I am also checking on different forums and documentations whether there is any experience with using SAMSUNG 512GB 950 PRO M.2 PCIe 2280 MZ-V5P512BW in HP ProBook 450 G3 (Skylake architecture).I have the currently latest BIOS version 01.10 Rev.A (12 Apr 2016).I wish to use the card in PCIe and NVMe mode. Is there any recommendation from HP and or test that the above mentioned SSD would work well with the mentioned laptop and BIOS configuration? P.S.: I did check the ?Maintenance and Service Guide? but it does not provide I think specific information to that.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've been keeping an eye on the Thinkpad P70 for a while and I'm ready to buy with the 4K display. I would like to have the fastest ad most robust storage option for the primmary drive. I see that I can configure the P70 with a 512GB SSD PCIe-NVMe straight from Lenovo but this will now incur a 3-4 week additional delay. Or I can buy the laptop from lenovo and buy a Samsung 950 PRO 512GB PCIe NVMe M2 seperately from Amazon for slightly less and Amazon has it ready to ship right away. Are both of these drive options the same? This is what I'm considering buying from Amazon for use with the P70 and I wonder if the PCIe drive option that Lenovo offers is the same "Pro" version below. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-950-PRO-Internal-MZ-V5P512BW/dp/B01639694M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1461... Thanks for any clarification.

A:P70 Storage: Configure with 512GB SSD PCIe-NVMe or...

More or less yes. The 950 Pro is the consumer version of the SM951 that Lenovo uses. You can look up both on Samsung's site to see the differences. However, if you want the "fastest and most robust storage option" you'll want the RAID 0 m2 512 option. That nearly maxes out the theoretical read and write specs for 4 lane NVMe 3.0 connectors at about 3.8GB/s for both in real life tests. Otherwise, you are looking at 2.5GB/s read, 1.5 GB/s write as a single m2. You can't activate RAID unless the system is ordered that way (different motherboards.) (FYI: the 256 drives do not have these same numbers; they are 2.2 GB/s read and 1.8 GB/s write)

I've been fighting this intermittently since I got this laptop. At times, the laptop runs perfectly fine. Other times the system hangs until it's good and ready to respond. When I open up the performance monitor I notice that disk Activity meter is at 100% with varying levels of Read / Write IO (typically in the tens of MBps), though it could be lower. Obviously this is nowhere near what the disks are specified for. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to validate what's wrong as far as diagnostic tools go? Chkdisk comes back clean w/o any bad sectors (though I think that could be masked by the controller and the magic of SSDs re-allocating storage to non-bad sectors). I recently also did a clean reinstall of windows and the problems persist. At first I thought this was maybe a bug with the Intel RST drivers ... so I did the complete clean reinstall and that didn't help. Very frustrated at this point as the tooling available doesn't have diagnostics for hardware. Lenovo's online diagnostic tool indicated 'Device not support'. And there are no BIOS-level diagnostics that I've observed as being available to run. System specs: P70 20ERXeon 1575M64GB ECCRAID 1 option w/ two pcie-nvme SSDs (the Samsung 950 or the 951's I believe -- whatever Lenovo installs).4k screen w/ the M5000M GPUQualcomm chip installed. Also, firmware on the SSDs is patched per the available lenovo update site.Latest win 10 x64 build as of the date of this writing w/ all updates ins... Yesterday I installed a Samsung 950 pro 256gb m2 pcie nvme ssd into a Dell E7270
Older configuration was with a sandisk regular sata 3 ssd. After replacement did a bios reset twice, once factory reset, once custom. (I left sata on ahci.)
I chose to install windows 10 pro x64 by using the uefi/gpt methode. Legacy options off.
Installation went without a problem. Afterwards I installed the Samsung nvme driver 1.4.7.17.
Also the Samsung magician software. It reports a link speed 8Gbps (is ok), link width 16 Gbps (should be 32?) .
Is there a way to change the pcie link width from 2x to 4x? I thought this ultrabook did support x4.

Hello everyone,

I have encountered a problem with Samsung 950 PRO 512GB M.2 NVMe. I would appreciate your help as my knowledge in hardware and software is minimal. So thank you in advance.

I have just finished installing windows 10 in a new pc while using old HDD drives I had from my older pc. I have purchased Samsung 950 PRO 512GB M.2 NVMe to be my boot drive and purchased the samsung 850 ssd for regular storage.

In addition to the above I already had 2 older HDDs from my previous pc that I connected them for extra storage.
When I started the windows 10 installation I chose custom so that I could choose the NVME ssd for installation and boot, however, I noticed that I couldn't differentiate between the two samsung ssds as both were 512 gb and windows only called each 'drive 1 or drive 2' and so on.

So, I randomly chose one and I think it appears to be the 850 that was installed, to my dismay.
Now the issue is that I cannot locate the NVME drive on 'this pc' although it is seen in BIOS for boot drive. To confuse me even more, in the BIOS I cannot see the M_1 slot when I go to advenced then storage in BIOS, the other 3 drives are located by their different satas.
I don't know what to do.
to summarise I would appreciate it if someone can help me in getting:
1 - the samsung 950 to be my installed windows, currently it says its the boot drive but i dont know if it needs to have windows installed on it
2 - to have the NVME recognised by windows so I can use it for storage an... Read more

HI,

My system is built around the Asus Z97 pro (wi-fi) motherboard, currently running windows 8.1 on a Plextor 256gb M6 ssd on a pcie bracket... the speeds are expected for this SSD.... it is seen in bios no probs.

For christmas I was given these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00J9V521S?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 and
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00MOXDGYI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

I have taken the plextor m6 out of the pcie slot and replaced it with the xp941 512gb SSD placed in the top slot of the Bplus pcie bracket.

When entering bios the new ssd is not seen, thus I cannot do a fresh install of windows 8.1 onto the m.2 ssd in the pcie bracket.

I have updated my z97 pro bios to the latest listed on the asus support website to no avail.... bios will still not see the new ssd. I want the ssd mounted in the pcie bracket and not the m.2 slot on the board as I need all the sata ports.

Please help. Many thanks.

For my recently bought E5570 Latitude I bought an new/bigger/faster SSD.
It's the Samsung 950 PRO with the PCIe connection and NVMe support.
I have created an Windows 10 install USB to doe a fresh install but windows does not see/detect the drive.
-edit-I was able to install windows by loading the F6 drivers for Intel Rapid Storage.
But not the less funny part, I only hit about 1000Mb/s reading while it should be around 2500Mb/s.Now samsung has a special NVME driver but that states no NVME drive is installed. Also samsung magician does not detect the drive correctly. The name is all weird and it has 0Gb storage.
Did anyone already come accross this issue? And if so how did you solve it

A:Windows 10 does not see/detect Samsung 950 PRO M2. PCIE/NVMe drive

Here is the guideline from Dell:

Im also interested in E5570, some questions:
1. Quite many user reviews complain about high-frequency noise coming from mobo or PSU unit. Can you confirm?
2. Would you know if any available Dell SSD option is actually NVMe?
Also, the trouble is, you have to buy M.2 SSD from Dell in order to get 6cell battery.

Recently purchased a Samsung 960 EVO - 500GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD and a Ableconn PEXM2-SSD M.2 NGFF PCIe SSD to PCI Express 3.0 x4 Host Adapter Card thinking I could use this combo to boot to a SSD.  The computer is a HP Envy 810-150se.   The motherboard is a Pegatron IPIWN-PB (Bios PI2_818.ROM v8.18).  The current harddrives are 2 WD 10EZEX 1.0TB drives in the RAID config.   The SSD drive was recognized and I was able to clone the C: drive using the Samsung Clone software but when I reboot I don't see it at all.  I've looked through the bios settings not finding anything that I think would help. Can this be done?  Is there a newer bios to update?  Does the RAID config need to be turned off?  Do I need to disable the non-used SATA channels? My fall back plan is to get a SATA SSD and use that but I think the PCIe NVMe is much faster. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,  Mike

The adapter supports PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe (M Key) and PCIe-AHCI M.2 SSDs including 2242, 2260, 2280, and 22110 drives. The expansion slot adapter supports the most common drive sizes including 110 mm, 80 mm, 60 mm and 42 mm.

up until windows preview build 14986, the pcie driver "Mobile 6th Generation Intel(R) Processor Family I/O PCI Express Root Port #5 - 9D14" (v10.1.1.27) correctly detects the "Standard NVM Express Controller" storage controller and the Toshiba THNSN5512GPU7 NVMe disk attached to it. starting with windows preview build 15002 (and 15007), the included pcie driver has troubles detecting the storage controller - during bootup, it is detected 4 times, with each time on a different device id. subsequently, the drive is also added 4 times, resulting in boot controller errors & timeouts and failed sleep mode/shutdowns. the included chipset driver in these latest builds seem to have been bumped to v10.1.1.33. the problem can easily be replicated by using unmodified recovery boot usb sticks made from the official isos, and then checking in a recovery console. it is thus not related to anything installed in my system.

However if I am say installing Windows 7 SP1 on say Samsung NVme drive and Samsung has released suitable drivers in the form of INF, SYS and CAT files, do I really need to integrate these MS Hotfixes in Windows 7?
Can Windows 7 SP1 supplied with Samsung NVMe drivers (Either slip streamed or during install) be able to detect Samsung NVMe drive and install itself on to it?
As the title says are those MS Hotfixes a must (sort of pre-requsite) to get NVMe drive detected during installation, apart from any vendor provided drivers?

However, having had great difficulty even starting to configure it (apparently, Lenovo does not favour Firefox any longer), I'm currently having trouble understanding the choices. The first is the choice between PCIe and SATA PointingDevice. Samsung sounds awfully excited about its latest SSD, a 512GB drive utilzing "toggle-mode DDR NAND" memory. It's the first SSD to do so, and according to Samsung, this is a pretty major deal. As Samsung explains it, toggle-mode DDR allows for higher performance without a subsequent increase in power consumption.

Does the new P52 support the Samsung 970 PRO NVMe M.2 SSD drive ? Lenovo's 1TB Solid State Drive PCIe-NVMe OPAL2.0 M.2 costs $1060 (CAD) whereas I can get a Samsung 970 PRO 1 TB for $625.  And I think the Samsung is probably faster... Comments ?

Does anyone know what brand/model/version of the solid state drive comes with a ThinkPad P50 configured with a 512Gb SSD PCIe-NVMe?I called the support centre here in the Uk but they couldn't help. I've seen lot of people tend to buy a cheap HD and then swap it with a Samsung 950 PRO NVMe M.2.Could this SSD (950 PRO) be configured as primary (and only) drive? Thanks.

A:P50 and SSD PCIe-NVMe

If you order a 512GB PCIe NVMe drive in your P50 laptop configuration, you'll more than likely get a Samsung SM951 drive. You may certainly configure this to be your primary (and only) drive in your system.

Hi, for L390 yoga i7 I've ordered the 128gb version and I want to put a 1gb nvme in it. I've read the spec sheet, it says the 128gb comes with 2242 PCI x2, with the 256/512gb suppiled with a 2280 PCI x4. I guess the 2242 is held in with an adaptor as per the service manual so I just take that out and off I go. Now is the x2 or x4 the actual drive, or is it the actual m.2 PCI BIOS that is limited PCI x2? I'm thinking as its a custom build, it would come with same m.2 PCI slot on all models, does anyone have any idea or has anyone remove the 128gb to replace it with something larger. Thanks

I have two Samsung NVMe 950 Pro (MZVKV512) that came preinstalled in a Lenovo ThinkPad P50 running Windows 10 x64. The Samsung Magician (latest v4.9.6) software does not detect the drives as Samsung Brand SSDs and therefore OS Optimization is unavailable (the only option is to run a benchmark). Samsung Magician supports this SSD as I can see users in other forums using the software on their systems (not necessarily Lenovo). I have also installed the Samsung NVMe Controller driver and this is showing in Device Manager. There are no system updates available and UEFI BIOS is up to date (version from the 4th May). Any ideas?
