Fan speed control program or overheating laptop help

Q: Fan speed control program or overheating laptop help

I have a Gateway M-6851 Laptop running win7 x64 pro. When I bought it, I had heard about it being pretty warm. I did not think much of it, if it runs a little hot it's np.
I have determined, however, that my games that run at 60fps when the laptop is cool, run at 19 fps when it is not.
Not only does it cause problems in game, when I try and watch HD video, It laggs the video.
It seems to stay hot all the time. I installed speedfan and here is the report.

Win9x:NO 64Bit:YES GiveIO:NO SpeedFan:YES
I/O properly initialized
Linked ISA BUS at $0290
Linked Intel 82801HB ICH8 SMBUS at $1C00
Scanning ISA BUS at $0290...
Scanning Intel SMBus at $1C00...

Found WDC WD2500BEVS-22UST0 on AdvSMART
Found ACPI temperature (77.0C)
Found Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83GHz
End of detection

This seems pretty bad to me, especially that 77 degrees Celsius.

I cannot control my laptop's fans in speedfan.

I was wondering, Is there any other program that can let me control fans (or fan, lol)
If not, what can I do?

My manufacturers warranty is out.
I have the "best" cooling pad (doesn't seem to help)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello all,

Haven't had a problem with my laptop in a long time, but having an issue. Specs in "My specs"

My computer was getting real sluggish and I realized it was quite hot. Usually, my laptop blows out hot air as it is a gaming laptop, but it doesn't seem to be doing that. I looked in speedfan, and couldn't see any speeds for my computer, but the gpu was hitting 80C. topped out at 82C and I turned it off. Fan was not blowing out air at all...

So I took of the bottom panel of the laptop so I could see the fan and the fan was moving every now and then. at 70C, the fan was not even moving and it started heating up again.... the fan didn't turn back on while it heated up to 75C so i turned it off again. The fan is moving slowly when it moves, but it is like it isn't being controlled as it should.

Also tried to blow out dust, took off heatpipes/heatsink and reapplied. I am travelling so I don't have thermal paste, but thermal paste looked good still. I had reapplied thermal paste recently so it still is in good shape.

Downloaded MSI Afterburner and it seems the Fan speed is not changeable in there... its up to 75C again

Any suggestions on what I can do to check the GPU fan speeds or reset the control for it so it spins back up as it should?

thanks in advance,

A:Laptop GPU Overheating GPU fan speed inconsistent

Ok so in MSI afterburner, i just underclocked the GPU. its slowly lowering in temp.

back down to 72C, but I need to fix this lol

nope nevermind... still getting hot. sitting at 74C at 0%GPU load.

I have a Lenovo x201t (tablet PC) with an Intel Core i7 2.13gHz processor and 4 gigs of RAM. I'm running the 64-bit version of Windows 7 SP 1, and it's up-to-date. It is a little disorganized with some old files I really should delete, but it has been recently defragged and it's well-maintained in general. I have an antivirus and a hardware firewall, as well as a software firewall: a combination which has worked well until now.Recently, my computer has been running far slower than normal, and the heat it is generating is way way more than usual (actually too hot to touch.)I've had the computer for about a year, and I've never had a problem with heat until a week or so ago. The fan is also incredibly loud, even in sleep mode. Here are all the symptoms in detail:1. Problems with web browsers.I have both Firefox and Google Chrome, and both are fully up-to-date. About 1 in every 3 times I turn on the laptop, both browsers will fail to work. Firefox just freezes irreparably as soon as it starts, and Chrome will load blank tabs but will not load any webpage or display any error screens (such as the DNS not found screen.) It just sits there. Once the browsers crash, any attempts to restart the programs will fail. Firefox just keeps crashing, and Chrome won't open at all. It loads the Chrome32.exe process in the task manager each time I click the icon, but the actual browser doesn't open.2. Problems with other programs.I have Photoshop CS5, which I use fre... I want to turn my fan on high for my high performance or balance setting because my laptop puts out a lot of heat sometimes even reaching a tjmax of 221 F or I believe its 105 C. I just got it and I am a heavy mmo gamer which doesn't weigh as much as a FPS so I figured it could handle it. Which it does pulling 100+ frames in FPS and MMOs. My problem is the overheating and last I checked 180F-190F is pretty hot for a laptop, but my fan won't turn on high cause of the stupid acer CPU %over desire = %+ of its speed which is retarded. I was wondering if anyone knows a program that will bypass the acers third party prevention system so I can turn on the speed to max.

My computer:
Acer Aspire 7741g-6426

I don't exactly know what's wrong with my PC atm.

Ok, I've this PC since Jan 2005, and gradually the fan speed has increased since then wayy to much for my liking.

I've not really noticed the noise all that much until about 2 months back when I installed armagetron (advanced) .
Several times just after I had just been playing tron in my boredom the fan speed would start screaming, I have no idea how fast it may have been going, but I'd estimate over 6000 RPM (if that's possible?). It would continue this for about 30 secs and then alarmingly drop to a speed i'd never heard it at - near silence...

I recently decided to install a few monitoring programs (PC Wizard 2006 & SpeedFan 4.31)
I've discovered that it's not unusual while it's idling for the CPU to be running at 80-90 degreesC , Mainboard temp 55 or so, hard drive 35-40, and the fan speed to be going down the runway between 3000-5000 RPM.

Just what do people think is wrong with this thing?
Hope someone can help me

I had a Dell Dimension e521. Recently my video card(it was an upgraded card, not the original, had a small fan in it)overheated. I replaced it with the original video card, which works fine. The overheating seems to have been caused by the heat sink and system fan(they are attached) being clogged with a large amount of dust. I tried compressed air and even a small brush, but could not get to it. I resorted to removing the heat sink from the processor, removing the dust, cleaning the old thermal paste off and reapplying new thermal paste. The computer is now running normally, except that the fan is stuck on high speed. I downloaded speedfan, and system is running cool.

I have tried updating the bios, this did not fix it. Speedfan does not recognize my fan settings and i cannot modify them using it. I opened up the case and found the fan connector on the motherboard, unplugged it and replugged it. no change. Computer is working, and not overheating, but this is really annoying? I am considering replacing the fan, any other suggestions?

Thank you for taking the time to read my request.

I purchased an HP entertainment laptop (windows vista os) about a year ago and I started experiencing problems with my speed a couple of months ago.

Most recently, I've experienced the following:

1. Slower speed surfing the net
2. Slow to open up an Internet Window (about 8 seconds)
3. Can not browse internet at the same time that an anti virus program is turned on (to monitor). Has occured with Norton and Trend Micro.
4. Can no longer access I-Tunes store or Rhapsody store when I open the applications.
5. You Tube videos are stop and go instead of running fluidly.

All of this is new behavior for my laptop...

Any ideas on what may be happening or what I should try to do next? I downloaded hijackthis, so I have that software program on my computer.

If anyone is willing to help, I would greatly appreciate it! Please let me know if you need additional information.

Many thanks in advance!

My friend is running a refurbished Dell that is only a few years old and it is apparently running very loud right now, even though her computer room is only about 72 degrees.

I told her I would take a look at it, but I was hoping someone out there might know of a program I could run to find out if her system is running hot. I know about motherboard monitor, but I'm not sure how to set it up. And I'm also not sure what temperatures are considered too hot when referring to the inside of a computer.

Hello all,i recently bought a new PSU and so far it seems to do the job quite well, however when i run certain more demanding games like The Witcher 3 and the PSU itself goes into high load, the fan makes quite a lot of noise.

Most reviews i saw online about the PSU seem to say it's not loud at all,and granted it's not loud while in idle. The question is, is it possible to somewhow lower the PSU fan speed ? The sound it makes is similar to a cheap office fan, however as i said, while in idle it's dead silent.

PSU : seasonic M12II-620 EVO Edition

PC specs :

- FX 8350
- G1 Gigabyte 1070
- 1 x HDD
- 990xa-ud3 MB
- 16 gb ram hyperx savage
- 4 x case fans

A:PSU Fan Speed control ?

It should not make the excessive noise you describe
Indeed even with the fan running it should be very quiet as it is a fluid type fan bearing, far quieter than a simple sleeve bearing as found on cheaper PSU`s or indeed quieter than a standard ball bearing

Are you sure you have it mounted correctly

I will check the base requirements of your system on the info I have and post back. If you have bought the minimum PSU wattage then you should not have done so
For instance minimum system requirements 600 watt always buy next up eg 700/750 watt

Although the PSU meets the based requirements of the system 125watt CPU and 150 watt graphics, the recommended psu for the card being 500 watt that of course does not take account of other components - hard drives etc OR indeed OC

See this
Seasonic recommend it for office use and causal gaming
use lower left pane for selecting heavy gaming

i got da program speedfan 4.32 and i cant control my fan speeds it doesnt even show my fans rpm..

It depends on what motherboard you have, that will allow Speedfan to work properly. The fans that can be controlled must have 3-wires. You can always install a fan controller, if you really need to control fan speed

Bought used M58-7360. Fan never speeds up. Stays around 25% I'd guess. I was transcoding video in plex and cpu usage was at 100% and cpu temp was at 170 degrees F and rising. I pulled a wire attached to the "thermal" pin on the front of the mobo to get fan to speed up and cooled the cpu down. After researching, apparently the only way to control the fan speed is the "quiet technology" setting under the ME selection in the Intel AMT software that you access by pressing ctrl+p at boot. I got to the area where it should be listed and it isn't there. It isn't in the normal bios. I installed speedfan program but it doesn't "see" the fan. I've also tried resetting cmos. Please help!

A:Fans speed control

Boohoo, no specs. In any case, a BIOS update may take care of it. I had a tornado going on my last board but a quick check and a BIOS update fixed it. There's usually fan control in the BIOS as well. Some motherboard manufacturers provide utilities that will allow fan and temp changes and/or alarm settings. System specs would go a long way in helping to provide specifics.

At this point I only have one more notch to go down, and it's still a little faster than I want it. How do I control the speed, you know, how do I keep it from speeding up? Is there a way to keep it a set speed other than the above mentioned procedure?

Not sure what's going on with your fans are you sure they are supposed to run at 100% ? - are the correct options enabled in the Bios - worth checking the manual or get it from your mobo's website - also see if they have an updated Bios available.

CPUID has oc'ing functions - it warns you it's at your own risk, of course - they also do HWMonitor which should help you see what's going on with your fans and temps.

Hope this does the trick

Anyway, my question is about controlling the speed of a mouse that is used on a system that has no settings panel for it. To expand that, I have a Security DVR setup that has mouse support but no keyboard support and all control has to be done with the mouse. Unfortunately, the mouse is way to fast for me and with the embedded firmware, no way to slow it.

Curious if they make a mouse that has a built in physical adjustment for the speed, or some kind of inline control to put between the mouse and USB port that could do this.

A:A Tool That Can Control Fan Speed On Motherboard Help Pls..

Hmm, it all really depends on the mother board, and I'm thinking as it's an hp, you can't. However case fans spin at max rpm by default, with most folks slowing them down with the use of inline resistors.

You can try speedfan, it may do something.

I play fair amount of video games a day, and add to that, I live in a hot enviorment.put simply: can I willingly increase or decrease the fan speed in order to accomodate for the high temperature?one key optimizer, a program that came included with the Lenovo laptop, is capable of increasing the fan speed, albeit momentarily for dust cleaning.I already checked the BIOS options, there was no fan control option there of any form, unfortunately. has anyone found any way to increase fan speed?do note, programs like speedfan, dont detect the fan either I would be glad to hear from you. thank you for your time

I have just rebuilt an old PC with various new parts. I thought the processor fan speed would be controlled by the new mobo - but it goes full speed all the time.
The mobo is a Foxconn RC4107MA Intell 775. with a celeron 3.06 processor.
I have checked the bios settings and there is an option for 'Smart Fan Control' which is enabled. Anyone any ideas why the fan speed is not being controlled. Is there something missing??

HP Omen 17 so noisy - how to control fan speed? My new HP omen 17 w010ng drives me crazy - it is so noisy. Even if the Geforce is switched off, the left fan starts to switch on very easily, running a Youtube video is enough. I have read about HP Control software allowing to control fan speed - it was very difficult to install and I only found out that the ventilator settings are already on normal. I switched the ventilators off in Bios, still not much change. Then i ensured in the graphic driver that Geforce is only used for Lightroom and Photoshop, this helped a bit, but still I see that ventilators speed up far earlier then required. I have tried HWinFO64, but no fan speed controls are possible. The freeware Speedfan is the same, I see the fan speed but cannot control it.  I found the freeware Notebook FanControl, but there is no configuration file for Omen 17 available. Did anybody out there solve the problem? How can I control and reduce the fan speed?
