I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have seagate hdd with windows 7 ultimate installed on partition C and the partition D for data.

Suddenly while booting, windows ask me for disk checking volume/partition D for consistency. If i let it check, the utility will run for endless time stucking at 6% mark . If i cancel the disk check, windows will take long time to load further to logon page and finally boots. But windows explorer wont show any properties for volume D (total space , used space etc). When clicked on D: icon, explorer will take a long time and finally will say DISK IS NOT FORMATTED..do you want to format it now ?

Disk management will show the volume as RAW
I checked the disk with minitools partition magic, and the volume shows NTFS and OK. I can also explore the volume and find all the files present on D drive. (not visible from windows)

CHKDSK with diff keys (/r / f etc) run from windows boot cd and the result is same..scanning wont go past 6-7% (File Record Segment xxxxxxxx Unreadable )
Any chance to make the volume accessible in windows again without loosing data ? !

A:CRC Error..HDD failure or Windows failure?

The first thing I would do is copy the data off the partition using linux, if you don't already have a backup. I would also take a system image. Then you can figure out if the drive is usable.

I was connected to a VPN, using the Windows XP Pro in built VPN client, when I experienced a power cut. Since then I cannot connect to any VPN connection using the Windows VPN client. So far, this is the only feature
that does not work after the power cut. The internet is working and I can browse the local network no problem. 3rd Party VPN software such as Hamachi, Cisco Anyconnect, Check Point and App Gate are still working as normal.
I receive the error 721 on all VPN connections I have that use the Windows Client, but I know using another computer the credentials are confirmed as correct and have not changed.
I have performed the following:
On the Network adapter in Network Connections I ran the Repair option, this did not work.
I ran the following commands:

ipconfig /flushdnsipconfig /registerdnsipconfig /releaseipconfig /renewnetsh winsock resetRestarted the computer.
These did not work
I have changed the physical network adapter and MAC address. This has not worked
I have run WinSock XP fix (an old goldie tool) but this did not work
I have recreated one of the VPN connections but this did not work
I have disabled the Windows Firewall, this did not work

Are there any useful logging tools for the Windows client that I could use, or does anyone have any ideas as to what I can try next. Thank you

Hi

I am running windows 2000 workstation. I collect email from outlook express but occasionally while browsing offline, the dial up connection tries to connect to the internet.

If I cancel this action, the dial up connection stops working and will not respond until the PC has been rebooted.

Any ideas?

A:windows 2000 dial up connection failure

Hiya

Is this if there is an email coming thru, and it connects to retrieve it? If not, lets have a look at the startup programs.

Go to Run and type MSINFO32
On the left choose Software Enviroment, then Startup Programs.

Actions | Save As Text File, and copy/paste the contents here.

Please save my sanity

We have two windows 2000 workstations. One is connected to the internet through a dial-up connection (which is working fine), the other networked to the first via a switch.

Internet Connection Sharing worked for a while then gave up the ghost. I have followed instructions from microsoft and just about any other source going but cannot get it to work again.

I have followed all the info on settings, both pc's have working ethernet cards, can communicate with each other, have dhcp etc. Is there something i'm missing here? I don't need a shortcut to microsofts knowledge base, just correct instructions on how to get ICS working again.

It can't be so difficult, did it at home on 2 win 98 boxes no problem, but have been plugging away at this for ages and its getting embarrasing explaining to the boss.

HELP

A:windows 2000 internet connection sharing failure

Hello. This might work for you. Go to the network property window where at the top you have your Ethernet type and at the bottom you have check boxes for different things. Now UNCHECK the TCP/IP check box and say ok. Restart your machine, go back to the same window and CHECK the TCP/IP and say ok to it. Do that to your client machine and see if it works. If it still doesn't work do it to your host machine. Let me know if that works. Good luck to you. LS

I am using a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo on Vista 32-bit.
I recently downloaded a programme reputed to provide me with a UK ISP ident so I could access various UK programmes. I understand there is a similar facility for US citizens abroad.
The programme I downloaded was ineffective. I uninstalled it.
Since then my 3G connection will not connect (Error 720 A connection to the remote computer could not be established. You might need to change the network setting for this,)
In my innocence I tried System Restore. The message received was (System Restore does not appear to be functioning correctly on this system. Incompatible version of the serialising pattern.)
An online advisory dite advised uninstalling and re-install the 3G driver. I did.
I have since had notices that the driver was not installed correctly and two advices that it has been installed correctly.
I am now receiving Error Code 680 - No dialling tone.
Any assistance that anyone could give to this 70 year old re-cycled teenager would be most gratefully received - particularly if offered in very simple language!!

Everytime Windows downloads Windows updates, it is successfull downloading and installing, however, I then get a message saying: Failure configuring Windows Updates, Reverting Changes, Do Not turn off your computer.

I have gotten Windows Fixit for Windows Updates and installed....but that does not clear up the problem.
I have not wanted to use Restore feature of Windows 7, since I have installed many critical programs that I use.
Is there any other solution out in Cyberspace that will help resolve the "Failure Configuring Windows Updats".

Occasionally I get this pop up error message on my laptop screen. It shows up in the mornings after the system has been idle overnight; I do not normally turn off my laptop.

Each time this happens, I do a bootup CHKDSK /R. This takes several hours but does not find any errors to fix. I do check my Wininit file afterwards. It is a 1TB HGST HDD, the model number is shown in the picture. Op sys is Windows 7 Pro. It happens maybe two or three time a month. I have been collecting differential images on an external 2 TB Seagate drive, and have a spare empty identical HGST HDD available just in case the HDD does crash and burn. I also back up my data onto a networked desktop.

Other than a possible HDD error or failure, is there anything else that could cause the error message to pop up? Also are there any other events in event viewer that I should look at?

Guys, i recently bought an asus ultrabook (zen x32vd), with win 7 home pro already installed (legal)
Following a friend's suggestion, i upgraded it to win 8 pro (speciall offer at 15 bucks).
I couldn't do a fresh install as the win 7 came with the ultrabook.
I really regret the upgrade. I did it last night i haven't been able to use it since then!
First, some intel drivers (for wireless display, bluetooth and usb) needed to be reinstalled, but the program from intel web failed to install it! (it freezes almost at the end, same problem when installing office and other programs).
Second, avast antivirus is not live protecting me anymore, don't know what the issue is.
Last but not least, i tried updating windows, but when it restarts i got the message "failure to configure updates, reverting" and it keeps restarting and restarting and restarting....
any help?
i would be so gratefull!

Hi guys,

I have had this problem ever since SP1 was available and never was able to install it. The idea of doing a clean install doesn't interest me so I have avoided SP1 till now. But now the new AMD catalyst drivers require SP1 and was wondering if this problem was ever solved.

I remember when Windows 7 Service Pack 1 was released, there was a problem with registry cleaning and stuff like driver cleaners because of which couldn't install SP1. I tried a lot of solution like replacing missing files etc but didn't work then.

So I tried now but am still not able to install it. During the update process on startup it stops around 10% and fails.

I have run SFC /SCANNOW(no integrity violations) and the cbs log is attached.

I ran the Update readiness tool and the checksur log is clean.

I ran the MGADiag as well and have attached its output.

Heres the old thread way back in April 2011.
https://www.sevenforums.com/windows-...0070002-a.html

A:Windows 7 SP1 install failure, error 80070002

Ok. I tried the standalone SP1 install package but it failed the same way and gave error 800f0826.

"Windows Update error 800f0826 is displayed when an update for Windows has failed to install and is preventing you from installing additional updates. Error 800f0826 does not identify the update that has caused the problem. The update that has caused the problem will display a different error."

I am guessing it will probably lead to the earlier error 80070002.

I looked in to the CBS.log and have trimmed it to just show the complete log from start of installation till failure. Have zipped it since its quite huge text file. I just don't know what to look for.

I have been trying to get Windows Update to work for the past few days, with no luck. It seems to have started to go wrong after a series of updates were installed on 21st May.

I am attaching part of the WindowsUpdate.log file, which includes the last successful update and the first unsuccessful attempt.

I have tried absolutely everything that has been suggested on the net. MrFixit, System Update Readiness tool, deleting the SoftwareDistribution files, winsock reset, clearing DNS cache, virus scan, disk check, SFC scan, and really everything I could find. I also tried uninstalling the Windows (but not Office) updates which were installed on 15th May. Loads and loads of reboots. Nothing seems to work! I now note that another Windows 7 on the same internal network, which is only rarely connected to the external internet, seems to have suffered a similar fate, but a Windows 8 machine is quite fine.

This error code is almost always due to connections problems rather than software problems.
One thing that is critical is your regional/location/date/time settings - if they are off-whack then WU will refuse connection.

Please check that, then run the following two test routines and post the results.

1) Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

2) Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

I've tried all the obvious stuff and nothing works. SFC reports no integrity issues with the OS.

I'm wondering if the original problem was trying to update using Windows Update first. I was able to install IE 10 on my HP laptop running Windows 7 Professional x64 by running the stand alone installer. I did have the updated video driver so I didn't run into the package update install problem even though it has a hybrid video system.

Now, my machine cannot start. It gives following error when machine starting up : "Failure configuring windows updates"

What is your opinion for fix that problem?

Hello There,

I just installed Windows 7 build 7100 the other day.

I am getting an error on my computer once or twice a day where the system completely slows down and then reports "Insufficient Resources to complete requested service". This message pops up when trying to do anything, task manager, documents, my computer, even shutdown. I have to hit the reset button.

Second problem - I thought downloading the most recent windows updates might solve the issue, but everytime I try to run Update, it says "Windows could not search for new updates, code 8024402F. When looking up that code it indicates that the update service may be overloaded, but I have tried at 9 different times of the day so far.......

Any solutions?

Thanks

Thanks and much appreciated,

A:Error 80070490 Windows Update Failure

You appear to have a severe problem.

The summary from your CheckSUR report reads

Code:
Summary:
Seconds executed: 1590
Found 3623 errors
CBS Registry Error Total count: 1
CBS Watchlist Package Missing Total count: 3582
CBS Watchlist Component Missing Total count: 40
Customer Experience report successfully uploaded. Thank you for participating. For more information, see the Microsoft Customer Experience Improvement Program on the Microsoft web site.
The problem appears to be in the registry - so the easiest fix is going to be a System Restore back to before the problem started, since the number of errors makes manual repair unlikely.

Do you know when the problem started?
When was the last Windows Update installed? - ignore MSE or Windows Defender updates

Hi,

I've come across a Windows 7 Professional SP1 x86 system which attempts to install

KB3108664 daily, and fails daily with error 0x80073712. It has been doing this for weeks and weeks.

Please note: All other Windows updates both before and since are updating successfully. Only KB3108664 is failing.

What I have tried already:

sfc /scannow - cleanSystem Update Readiness ToolWindows 7 Update Troubleshooter - several times
All run successfully.

But KB3108664, and only KB3108664, continues to fail every time with error 0x80073712, both when run through Windows Update, and also when downloaded and installed manually.

I looked at LOGS\CheckSUR.log, and something is definitely wrong with this update. But I do not know how to interpret what I am looking at or what to do next.

If you need any further info, please let me know.

To explain what happened: I have installed windows 7 then the upgrade to windows 10 on this computer.

I installed win 7 originally on an ATA HDD in IDE. It repeatedly gave me the error:
"Boot disk failure insert system disk and press enter"

It did not matter what DVD I used out of the 2 windows 7 ones I had. When it rebooted as part of the install it always came back to that error.

I tried fixing the boot in recovery.
I tried formatting the partition and installing again.
I tried deleting the partion and installing again.
Nothing worked.

I got a new HDD. SATA. I am now using this to boot from, with the other drive as second data drive.

I have now been able to install from the windows 7 dvd and the upgrade to windows 10.

This works, except some times I still get the error on boot:
"Boot disk failure insert system disk and press enter"

Additionally if the system is idle it sometimes freezes after 15 minutes to 4 hours, the screen freezes, the keyboard, the lights are still flashing, but leaving it for hours makes no difference it just has to be hard reset.

System specs:
Win 10 home 64 bit
i5-750
4gb ram
Gigabyte P55M-UD2 board
Geforce GTS 250
Samsung 160gb sata

I'm trying to fix my sister's laptop which was obviously infected with a ton of stuff. First, I ran SuperAntiSpyware; it found and deleted 81 threats. Then I ran MBAM and it found 9-10 threats. I ran HJTthis a few times and it found and fixed 5-6 threats. Finally, I ran SpybotSD from a thumb drive and it found a couple things. I also installed Windows Essentials. Symptoms:- on bootup, sometimes it tries to check the disk, then cancels itself- Windows Help and Support starts as soon as the desktop shows. When I click the X, it closes and immediately pops back up.- IE doesn't work at all.- I installed Firefox. It worked fine at first, then randomly started redirecting me when I tried to click results on Google- I tried to run spybot installer to install the program on the computer, but it failed when it started unpacking.- I tried to run Windows update but it would start to download, then fail- when I tried to run Gmer as directed in your instructions, it caused the following: + message that said taskmgr.exe was corrupt, please run chkdsk + message that said gmer.exe was corrupt, please run chkdsk + logonscreensaver stopped responding, and screen went whiteDDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Owner at 16:18:17.62 on Fri 05/28/2010Internet Explorer: 7.0.6000.17037Microsoft? When I start Windows 7 about 30 seconds after the login, I see an error message popping up that says: "Failed to initial environment". In the task bar I see the an icon that writes MFC, which is the program that gives the error message. I looked in my task manager under processes if I see MFC, but there is nothing like this. I am using Windows 7 64 bit.

Does anyone have an idea what that would be?

Here are 3 screen shots, which show the error and all processes running in my task manager.

While installing ubuntu, error occurred. Now unable to boot Windows also. It prompts for recovery cd.

Tried using other machine's recovery cd - Diskpart. But got the following error while selecting a partition.

cumulative security update for internet explorer 11 for windows 7 for x64-based systems
is the error I get when I try to install it, I've tried fix it, system readiness tool, registry fixers, registry reset, and still I get it, but I've done a lot of research and the only conclusion I can come up with is I have corrupted something I don't know. Please don't answer if your going to give me a link for "Checking" updates error 8007002. This is only happening to this specific update.

A:Failure Configuring windows updates, Reverting changes Error

Ok when I restart my computer to configure updates, it goes up to 90% and then says that. But it reboots again and tries to configure a second time but still says failure, it does this 3 times and then I can log in. I think it may have something to do with the error (on my other thread) I have on a update and its affecting this, but I don't know what the problem is. If you see the picture, imagine seeing that one time and it reboots and says that 2 more times. That's what's happening to me.

The os is VIsta X64 and if we go into windows update screen we see that all teh updates have failed to install. When we try to download the Windows Update Manager for vista x64 while copyign files it gives the same error code. We have even tried running sfc /scannow , it takes some time , completes the verification (100 %) and says that it found corrupt files but failed to reolve the issue. Please suggest..

Just to update we have also tried the following fix :

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll

still no joy...
Sorry to keep on updating the post .... we have norton internet security on the system. we have not tried disabling the firewall before attempting to register the above files. however , we received no error messages while registering the files. we got confirmation after every file registration that the dll file has been registered successfully

I think there is no more step left in the course book .. hence no replies... no worries , i am making our friend run a factory image restore on the hard drive. Windows Mail as always gave me some hiccups while exporting the messages as it came up with an error which said that the external HDD where i was saving the file , was running out of space (Genius!!! , the external HDD has 195 GB of free space and the file we were copying is 296 MB ) or the messages are corrupt. I then had to turn off the UAC, copy the actual Windows Mail folder at a differet location on the HDD and change the file attributes and finally it got copied on the external drive manually(Microsoft should have had reasons to release Widnwos 7).... neways i thank all the viewers for passing by the post and pray to God that i resolve the issue as early as possible.

Hi..I just bought a refurbished computer. Its an HP Desktop Computer COMPAQ 6005 PRO Phenom II X3 3.0 GHz 4 GB 250 GB HDD Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit .

In order to install windows for the first time on this refurbished machine, I have to choose "system restore" at boot.
It starts to go through the process of installing windows, then I get this message : "Windows Restore Critical Failure. This can be caused by a missing Windows image".
Anyone know how I can fix this. I cant get into windows, because I first have to install it using the system restore. So the only computer access I have, is when it boots up.

I have tried to contact Newegg...which is where I bought it, but no luck. All repairs and service is through the warranty company...cant get in touch with them either.

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks.

A:Windows 7 BACKUP AND RESTORE FAILURE with error codes

Something is "broken" in your installation of Windows. Without knowing the full particulars of your installation, and exactly the steps you took to get to where the errors occurred, it's doubtful you can get backup working unless somebody here with expertise in Windows backup spends some time with you tracking everything down. If possible, reinstall Windows, using common procedures and disk configurations. Another option is to use a different backup tool.
Free Macrium is one, and there are others here that people recommend. It may seem "right and proper" to get Windows backup working correctly, but unless you're a "technical" who just won't give up, it's really unnecessary.
Other backup tools are simply better working and less prone to failure. I'm a "technical" but wouldn't waste time with Windows shadow copy service problems unless it was part of my job. Unless you are compelled to use Windows shadow copy services by some specific need, it's much simpler to use other software for backups and images.
I never learned about Windows shadow copy services, so I can't help you with that.
Maybe one of the people here who swear by Windows backup will help you clear up your problem.
That would be nice.

A:Windows Update Failure with Multiple Error Codes

Hello, and welcome to the Seven Forums!

Well, hopefully we can avoid a complete reinstall, because I do have a few tricks up my sleeve

Can you please upload for me an unmodified copy of C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log, and I shall see what I can do.

Also, ideally, please avoid chopping up log files, because although I can read them, to save time when sourcing hundreds of files at once, I have many automated tools to do repetitive portions of the work for me, and truncated logs confuse these tools. But I already have a pretty good idea with what is going on with your computer, and well done for running the System Update Readiness Tool.

Thanks a lot!

I can not for the life of me get SP1 to install. It always gives me the 80070002 error.

I've done what the microsoft help says to do which is clear out my updates list after stopping windows update in services then starting them again but it just produces the same error code.

I've run the system update readiness tool as well as a sfc /scannow and heres the CBS zip, a zip containing all the cbspersists(so I get them both uploaded under the limit) and a screenshot of the error.

This is starting to affect my ability to play newer games giving me 3B bluescreen errors and the like.

So I tried Manually installing the Sercurity Rollup kb4034679 in one of the PC and it failed to install the update and i found the following error in the eventviewer

Event id 3

Windows update "Security Update for Windows (KB4034664)" could not be installed because of error 2147549183 "Catastrophic failure" (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\Windows7SecUpdates\Windows6.1-kb4034664-x86_Aug_2017.msu"

The solution i tried is to uninstall the previous security update which we installed in May 2017(KB4012215) and then to installing the Aug Security Patch worked.

Now i need a solution on how to push this Security update kb4034679 to entire PC's in our Organization without uninstalling the old update.

Hello,

I've attached both CBS and CheckSUR log files. Thanks for any help offered!

A:Windows update failure - error code 80073712

Here's the summary from your CheckSUR.log file...

Code:
Summary:
Seconds executed: 889
Found 146 errors
CSI Payload File Missing Total count: 146
This tome indicates that something serious interfered at the crucial time of an update install where the files were being relocated after a reboot - especially as SFC appears to find nothing amiss.

I'll post a fix protocol for the above errors later - but I wouldn't hold out too much hope of its being effective.

Hi

Are you getting that error for every updates or when installing a specific update ? . Before trying any repair attempts,  uninstall your antivirus software and see if it helps. You can re install it later.

If that didn't solve the issue, please follow the below steps.

1 ) Make sure Date, time and region settings are correct.

Make sure your WIndows 7 is SP1 installed. If not download and run the SP1 offline setup.

2 )If all areOK download 'Windows Repair ALL in One' from  http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/windows_repair_all_in_one.html

3) Install and open the tool. Click next to continue. Go to Step 3 and click on the Do it button to run System File Check.

4 ) Go to Step 4 and click on the Create button under System Restore.

5 ) Go to Start Repairs and click on the Start button.

6 ) If it asks permission to backup registry, allow it to do so. Now you will see the main screen.

Click 'Unselect All' to remove default selection. Now select the following items.

 Register system files
Set Windows services to default start up
 Repair windows Update
 Repair Windows Firewall

A:Windows 7, winload.exe error:0x00000e9, Boot failure

Please read through this thread: Windows 7, winload 0x00000e9 I/O error . You will get a list of diagnostic tests you could try to see if the hard drive is recoverable. For that OP the replacing the hard drive was his solution.

The first things to try is to run CHKDSK /R from a command prompt in Windows. Then run a hard drive diagnostic program - one downloaded from the hard drive manufacturer that boots from a CD - to test the drive.

You want to determine whether the hard drive is bad or the W7 installation is bad.

Hi

I'm using Win 7 x64
I've got a problem with KB2937610 for over a month.
I've tried to install it manually, use MSFixit and install it from clean boot. Neither worked.
Recently I found this forum, so here I am to ask for help.
(I'm sorry if I made any grammar mistakes, my English isn't prefect).

A:Windows Update KB2937610 failure; error code 800B0100

You have some missing OS files as well - but here's the summary from the CheckSUR log...

I'll post a fix protocol when I can get to it - probably tomorrow.

Then we'll need to fix the other errors.

This has been an ongoing issue since my first attempt to configure it on 24 June 2011:
It always reboots @ 10% during the configuration; restarts @ 7% configuring, then fails completely @ 10%.

STEP 2:
Followed the error hyperlink (Troubleshoot problems installing Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2) to Microsoft’s troubleshooting page where the following steps were outlined:
(1) Run the System Update Readiness Tool
>> Downloaded and ran “Windows6.1-KB947821-v14-x64” on 01 January 2012
(2) Run a troubleshooter
(3) Turn off security programs

I followed these directions carefully and received the same error message after attempting to install and rebooting after each step.
STEP 3:

Conventional wisdom is that you are likely to have to do a repair install of the OS before updating to SP1.
Your CheckSUR log is clear
Your CBS log is regenerating at a high rate - which is not a very good sign - but the SFC scan produced no errors found.
I eventually found the SFC log in the CbsPersist_20130113214718.cab file - 180MB of data generated in less than 5 hours!

Here's a sample of some of the errors in that file.....
