Q: Interesting question, probably easy answer!

Hi,

I would like to know if it is possible to add the username and password information into a hyperlink so that as soon as the hyperlink is clicked it will go to the specific page and bypass the sign on screen.

The website in question has an .aspx ending to it. Have just found out i cannot post the exact site on these forums.

I notice this is an asp page and wonder if this is possible or not, I have 30 children accessing these hyperlinks at a time for a class and it would be helpful if each and everyone of them did not have to sign in.

Thanks
Chris

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys,

There is something that happens occasionally when I am typing. Whether in a text program or typing in a messagebox on a forum, it can happen.
Hope I can explain it clearly.
OK lets say I am typing a paragraph, and (I can't type properly, so once in a while my fingers stray to the wrong keys), so after I accidentally hit some key combination, the following happens:

If I go into the previously typed paragraph, and let's say I want to insert a word, when I type, the word will appear, but will not "move' the text over, it will overwrite it. Typing more will just overwrite whatever I have already typed.
I should be able to insert a word or any text in there and the previous text should move over.

I would have to start the page over again, and everything seems ok. I KNOW it is a key I hit accidentally, or a key combination. Otherwise, like typing here everything seems fine.

What could I be hitting that would cause the new text to overwrite the previous text?
Hope I have explained it well.
Thanks in advance, Gary.

A:Easy answer question

If your router has wireless capability and if you set up the desktop for file and printer sharing and then set the printer to share, Yes . . you should be able to print from the laptop. Run the Add Printer wizard on the laptop once you have shared the printer, check Network Printer and follow the yellow brick road . .

This one is a pretty 'minor' question. I am trying to add the 'tint' to my 'selection box' in win XP. In Vista that tint comes default but not in XP. If you don't know what I mean just go to your desktop and select a few icons. the selection box will either be clear or have tint depending what os you have. This may seem like a useless feature, and it is. But it passes a lot of time . So is there an easy way to get this in XP
ill post some examples
Here is my XP computer

And here is my LInux computer (it has the tint just like Vista... without the Vista )

I will confess. I love my game Diablo II but I don't know donkeys about computers. The speed of the game is directly related to what kind of mood I'm in. I heard that if you load the all CD files to your hard drive, the game will be relatively faster. Right now, Diablo II is the only game I play and would like to load Diablo II on my computer so I don't have to use the CD. IF anyone could help me out, it would be great!

NOTE: I don't know alot about computers so if you try to help me, please keep the computer lingo very simple. Thanks! =)

A:Seems like an easy question to answer regarding Gaming

If you do a full install of DiabloII it will install all the files needed for the game on your hard drive, including music and video. The only reason it should then require your cd is for the anti-piracy cd check, which doesn`t actually load anything from the disk, it just checks that you have an original copy.

A:I need help creating a registry file. Detailed question, should be easy to answer.

You may be receiving that message because you aren't starting the file with something like:

"Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00" (without the quotes)

My understanding is that it's a requirement for the first line of a registry script.

The general format of the rest of your script is also a little different than ones I write, but I can't say whether that's a problem or not.

Hi Chris,

In Notepad, click Format menu, uncheck Word wrap. Then, inspect the REG contents to make sure there are no broken lines, such as :

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main2\FeatureControl\FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN\Settings]

Once everything is OK, re save the file as a REG and try to import again.

Hey guys, I am from a engineering background, I have some fuzzy networking concepts probably need to clear up. If you guys can bear with some simple noob questions.... Advance thanks.

If I want to dial in via GPRS a remote wireless modem with dynamic IP, I need to use DDNS (dyndns.com), no? I am unable purchase GPRS static IP for the modem because it cost $600/month in my country so my only option is using DDNS.

However, I think the above method will not work base on my present understanding:

1. I got the below ordinary USB wireless modem people normally use for internet browsing.

I plug the usb wireless modem to my laptop. I go to whatismyip.com, it shows the IP address 220.255.7.139. I type ipconfig, it shows the IP address is 119.234.164.229! So why is the two Ip address shown is different? I as a noob thinks that whatismyip.com is showing the gateway address of my usb modem gprs network visible to the internet. And ipconfig is showing the ip address of my usb modem inside the GPRS APN but not visible to internet. Is my understanding correct at this point?

2. I then unplug and plug the usb modem, check the ipconfig, and repeat. I notice each time the Ip address shown in ipconfig is different. This shows that the modem ip inside the GPRS APN is a dynamic IP, not a static IP. Is my understanding correct for point 2?

3. I unplug and plug the usb modem, and check whatismyip.com. I notice the each time ip address shown in whatismyip.com is different. This shows tha... Read more

Actually, What's My IP would be showing you your public IP address. The 119.x.x.x address is apparently some kind of internal translation happening within your network.

I don't see why DynDNS wouldn't work for you, have you actually tried it?

Okay, first time posting here, I'm going to try and make this short and fast.
I hate vista, I mean, who doesn't, right? Well Vista has been being all weird and I need to wipe my computer clean anyways due to this nasty bug that got in, I managed to quarantine it, however it messed up a lot of my registries and some stuff doesn't work properly.
So here's my question;

I want to downgrade my Vista Home Premium to Windows XP, I was wondering, though, seeing as I'm running a Vista 64-bit, can I downgrade to XP-32 bit? If so, is there any bad effects to this? Or would it be better to go with 64-bit XP?

Here are my computer specifications, by the way;

RAM: 4GB
Processor: Genuine Intel(R) CPU U2700 @ 1.30GHz 1.30 GHz

Also have 320GB HD... I dont think that matters, though...

Thank you very much,

Brandon. M

Hi -

I'm not a computer wizard and I did something screwy, not that I know what it was. So if you can answer me, 1st of all thank you, and second of all you have to speak to me like I'm a child with this computer stuff. The problem is that I wanted to get rid of my Welcome screen with the big picture and my whole name splashed a cross it. Man, I wish I had it back. Now I get an instant log on error once windows loads which has a Yellow Yield sign and says that I can't log on and I should check if I have the right domain and User Name, then I can type in the password. It needs to be in proper case ya da yada. Fortunately, Since this a 5 year old Sony Vaio desktop running WinXP Pro I have forgotten if there ever even was a password; however, I'm the only one who uses it so I guess I'm the Adminstrator. Anyway, I type in my full name with caps and hit enter and I'm allowed in. Besides the fact that no one wants to wake to an error beep, when I want to use task manager this partial screen comes up and asks me if I want to do all kinds of things. I just want to hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and get my old task manager back. We go throught the same process when I want to sign off. Not the task manager but another multiple choice screen.
Any advice is greatly appreciate. I know these are small things, but they are really annoying.

I recently had my PC demise. I was trying to install a new hard drive, which was faulty and I suspect the power supply was dying anyway. Ironically, the old hard drive, which I suspected of being responsible for the PC's slow performance and strange clicking noises, runs fine in the drive caddy I bought to transfer over the data (the new one wouldn't power up, never mind initialise in it).

As we have laptops that run fine, there is no hurry either to repair or replace the PC (replacing it is probably cheaper). While trying to get the new hard drive to power up (power connections too tight), the whole PC ceased whirring although the green light stayed on and ignored anything I did with the power switch. I've now unplugged it. If it is the power supply unit, it's probably taken out the motherboard like the last one did and that proved expensive to fix.

This does leave me with a DVD-RAM drive and a DVD RW drive plus a floppy drive, all of which work fine. Are there caddies/enclosures to suit these or would those for 3½" hard drives be suitable? This may sound a weird question, but I hate throwing away things that still work.

Hey everyone I have a weird problem with this computer.. Well there's mainly 2 things.. One of which is prolly an easy answer and the other well, isn't so much.

First, On Windows xp Home, I was wondering for the task manager if you can get the full options that the task manager supports. On my windows XP Pro, I remember I could start programs, I could see my network send/recieve (I believe) and just things like that. I was wondering if you could do the same with windows home, and if you can, how so?

Secondly, (and this is the harder one), when I'm in 'normal mode' whenever I try to open up explorer, my computer, or even a simple folder, the screen sorta refreshes and it never opens what I want it to. When I rearrange the shortcuts on the desktop, and then try to open up my computer, IE, or a folder, the screen refreshes and the shortcuts reset too. It's like it goes back a few seconds or something.. I dunno. But whenever I'm in safe mode mode it's all perfectly fine and I can open up whatever I want sort of deal. I've (in 'normal mode')tried updating the drivers, doing a diagnostic startup, shutting down all non essential processes, spyware removal an so forth but still no success.
Any help?

I'm running Windows xp Home on 2.0 ghz, 256 ram, geforce mx..That's about all I can remember that would really matter. Anyways, any help what so ever would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm trying to learn how to make simple slide shows, and have run into some problems.

I have Paint, Image Forge, and Irfanview for graphic manipulator programs. They all seem to work about the same way, and look like good programs for an amateur (that's me).

My questions are:

1. With regard to screen shots (Prt Scrn)

a. I'm attempting to take screen shots of selected photos in another slide show, which is on a web site (I think it is .mpeg, as it has sound track, too) with screen shot. I'm getting the screen shot image into Clipboard OK. What happens then is either that I can't save it to some graphics file (sometimes it acts like it's saving, but doesn't), or it does save but is a black screen when I open the graphics file it saved to.

b. So, I guess my first question is: how do I get useable graphics file images of shots from an .mpeg slide show on a web site?

2. With regard to one of my graphic manipulator programs:

a. Do I put actual images into the slide show input side of Paint, Irfaview, Image Forge, etc?

b. Or do I put paths and file names in the input side?

c. If I put paths and file names in the input side, then this means that the program I use automatically extracts and uses the filed image without me having to do so, doesn't it?

b. Now this really sounds stupid, but how do I save the slide show, once I've got the images/files assembled? I see various "save" commands, depending on which program I... Read more

A:stupid slide show questions (these should be easy to answer)

Regarding question 2 my advice is not to make slideshows with software programs but just keep your picture files in self-explanatory folders and sub folders. When you want to see a slideshow open Irfanview, click the second button from the left (blue) and navigate to a folder or subfolder and click on any picture(s) to add it to the left hand column and when done click 'Add', or 'Add all' if you want the entire folder; also remember if you click the 'Include subdirectories' box it will do just that. You can have several thousand images ready to show that way! Choose 'Advanced Options' to set the sort order (usually by name), select whether timed (you can click to set the time), or manual; also whether Automatic (meaning 'in order of listing') or Random. Then click 'Play'. Afterwards click 'Remove all' to empty the window.

If you set up a slideshow this way and you want to repeat it without the effort of again preloading all the images, then click 'Save filenames as TXT', choose a name and location to save the resulting text file to, and then when you want to see it again just click 'Load filenames from TXT' and navigate to the .txt file. You can build up quite a library of slideshows that way. After seeing a show click 'Remove all' to empty the left window - it will not delete the files or the .txt file.

If you want to add or delete any of the filenames you can either edit t... Read more

Is it possible to send a fax over a cell phone? Hubby posed this question today. I can't think of a way it could be done, but promised I'd try to see if anyone here had ever heard of it being done.

A:Interesting question

A quick google search

Question: How can I send faxes with my cell phone?

Answer:
Our fax software can send faxes with cell phone modems, as long as your modem can be seen from a COM Port on your computer, and your cell phone carrier supports this. You may need to call your cell phone service provider to ask if faxing is supported.

I was wondering if the following is possible or not.
I want to put a message box on certain folders. To explain, when the user opens a certain folder, windows puts up a message on the screen with a message like "This folder is out of date, please use folder 3." or something along the same lines and then open the folder when they click "OK".
I don't want to restrict access, I just want to give the user information when they enter a folder.

I have searched about a bit but I don't really know if it is possible and what to search for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Interesting Question

It'll take some searching but I think I saw this trick somewhere.
Do a ggogle search for "registry tips and tricks".
Here's a good one:

Well MS fixed "Error 80248015" ,  Thinking about it this AM how did they access our machines to apply the fix????????????????????

A:Interesting Question

They didn't, the problem was created by an outdated file located on the Microsoft Update servers.

When the Windows Update Client on your computer tries to update, first it check if there is a new version of the client on the server and during that check it downloads a file that didn't pass the validation check because of the expired date.

Good morning

I'm wondering. On my laptop i have a screen (duh) How can i use it to play xbox 360 or for that matter.. use it as a monitor for another PC...
What can i get that has good quality HD comp. in or VGA in. I have VGA out, but not in.....
SO can i get some PCI card to fulfill this desire? Or is this just impossible....?

Thanks

Michael

A:An interesting question

The laptop screen is hard wired (digitally) to the laptop motherboard.

It's a proprietary digital interface that differs between makes and models.

It's not therefore "available" to use as an external monitor, even if you were to disassemble the laptop.

Is there a way to block someone from booting up a computer?

(I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this question.)

I have an individual who frequently spends time at my house, and I do not want her to have access to this computer. I'm sure there is a way to do it, but I don't know how. I've tried going to the CMOS screen on start up and setting a password there - It didn't work. I can't remember if there is a password command that can go into a DOS .bat file.

I have an Intel Pentium III, 500 MHz processor. The "brand" name is Pionex. I'm not sure of the motherboard type.

I would appreciate any insite on this problem. Thanks in advance.

A:Hello. I have an interesting question...

How did she find a way around the BIOS password? Here's an easy solution: take the power cord off your computer and hide it. Works for me.

Hi peoples
For security purposes is it safer to use the on screen keyboard in windows when logging into sites using your password etc.
For instance do keyloggers pickup this or is it hidden.
Just a curious question?

A:Interesting security question

It would help if you have a hardware keylogger but I don't think it would help if you had a much more common software keylogger.

one of the mucky-mucks got a new laptop today, imaged it, installed his custom apps, copied over his profile, installed all necessary software for his various apps, and the only problem I am having is that he wants his custom dictionary imported. Now, I know that with word it's normal.dot; I know this as I tend to have most of my office suite products pretty customized and back up the toolbars rather frequently, as I don't feel like re-adding a few thousand entries into the custom dictionary.

My question, however, is is there a place where office stores ALL of the custom dictionary stuff, as when he opens outlook all his custom entries are popping up in spell checker, and he understandably doesn't want to rebuild that.

I had thought that by bringing over his profile it would solve that issue, or rather had assumed it, as nobody has ever voiced that question before in 5 years of doing this.

So is there a central repository that office dumps stuff in outside the profile that I need to bring up to his new machine?

tia,

Hi,
I was just wondering if there is an option in Newegg that makes all of the things in your cart get shipped the same day. For example, is there a way to make everything arrive on the same day, or at least get shipped on the same day?

Thanks,
Van

i have one Canon all in one media printer that i would like to use between my two home computers... the computers are about 10 feet away.

First of all.. i was wondering if using a program like Remote Assitance or something like that where you can access everything on someone elses computer you could print on the computer thats not hooked up to the printer.

orrrr

Second, is there anyway to send prints across the internet? i don't know if that makes sense so just ask for clarity if needed

On discord, its not uncommon for me to come across "Cursed MP4 Files" with strange properties.

I'm incredibly interested how the creators of these files were able to get their results and mostly I want to make my own "cursed files". Some of the properties I've seen are video lengths upwards of 13,000 hours long, yet still being 1 MB. I've also seen videos that have negative video lengths and videos that display the video length as 0, yet still plays a video.

How were some of these made? I can file share the specific MP4 files in question

I connect to a hotspot with a USB dongle. I want to connect another machine, a Wii to be exact, in another room but it can't recieve the signal from the hotspot. I was wondering if there was a way to use the wireless router I have, which only has one input and that is ethernet, to somehow extend the signal to the other room? I have no way of plugging my USB adapter into the router. Can the router plug into the ethernet port on my computer and transmit what is being received via the USB dongle? Thank you guys so much.

A:Interesting USB adapter / router question.

Bridging wireless connections with a pc

Short answer yes.
I currently have a DLink router in one room, a gaming bridge in another room and a USB wireless adapter in a third room. The internet connection from my cable modem service is being bridged to the usb adapter which relays all the internet to the router. The router also communicates wirelessly with the gaming bridge passing along all that traffic.

If you can connect the WII to the router/gaming bridge(one ethernet port makes it sound more like a bridge) then connect the router to your pc using the ethernet port. Finally there should be two connections under "Start>settings>network connections" (assumes windows xp). Select the two connections (holding ctrl while clicking) then right click either and select "bridge connections". That should pass all traffic from your wireless USB adapter to the ethernet adapter.

I don't have a WII but for the XBox 360 bridging was prefered to Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) as it blindly forwards all ports and eliminates the need to specify what ports are necessary for gaming.

Good Luck

What is the difference between bus and frequency...?
How can i know the bus and frequency of my Ram...?
And when you buy a Ram ( 1024MB 400 ), dose the ( 400 ) stand for the bus or the frequency ?
Thanx......

A:Ram question..please answer..

A bus is a wide data path between two or more electronics components.
"How can I know the bus of my RAM" is a nonsense question. Maybe you want to know about the difference between the bus frequency/speed and the RAM frequency/speed?

Your RAM does operate at the same frequency as its bus, so when someone refers to their RAM speed of 400MHz, then that is also the maximum bus speed that this RAM supports.

i'm not gonna ask for cd-keys or anything like that

my question is fairly simple
i've got CS installed on my comp for a long time now and it works perfectly
i need to format my comp and i've lost my CS cd-key
i want to know how i can find my cd-key as it is right now
i don't wanna format before i have the cd-key written down somewhere again

thx in advance

A:CS cd-key question, pls answer

Click Start->Run, type 'regedit' (without quotes), and hit OK.

Now, navigate through HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Valve -> Half-Life (Or CounterStrike if you have the retail version) -> Settings, and there should be a key on the right window called 'Key', with a bunch of numbers to the right. Those numbers are your CD-key.

Good luck!

what is the difference between stand by and hibernate??? what do they do? what are there differences and are they of any use? will one of the reducue electricity usage??

A:Please answer this question.

Hibernation loads memory to a file and shuts down the machine. Stand-by is sleep and can be at different levels including Vista's hybrid sleep, but the thing they have in common is that they use a small amount of power to keep memory alive. Machines come back from standby very quickly.

If there is a power failure during hibernation, since no power is being used, no problems result. Power outages during sleep are like a hard shutdown.
