Problems with recording resolution for video editing program

Q: Problems with recording resolution for video editing program

Hello there!
I like to record videos for World of Warcraft Events and turning them into some nice basic videos for the attendees to watch. I use Fraps to record and Windows Movie Maker to edit (I know, shame on me).

Recently, black brackets has started to appear on the sides of my recordings, when I put them into Movie Maker, this sadly ruins the recordings for me, due to some of the effects I put on them.
I recently changed from my Laptop screen to a monitor (Medion - MD 30159) 16 units wide and 9 units tall. Very old monitor.
I have tried downloading different movie editing programs, and another recording program and nothing has removed the brackets. According to an online guide I found, then I should be able to remove them by clicking from standard to wide, in the Windows Movie Maker program, but this only moved the brackets from the top and bottom of the screen, to the sides.
Could the problem for this be that my old monitor's proportions does not fit with the recording/editing programs?
Would it help me if I got a new monitor with other proportions?
Is there any possible way that I can remove the brackets of my current recordings? As I would hate to loose them (In another editing program? Settings in windows? Anything!)
- I use Windows 10 on a Lenovo Notebook (I think)

Thank you for taking your time to read this.

Preferred Solution: Problems with recording resolution for video editing program

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Problems with recording resolution for video editing program

Depending on the software used, it will either record using the desktop resolution or give you the option to choose your own resolution. If you are getting black bars, you are not recording the desktop resolution.

For best results and clarity, you should be using the screens native resolution in Windows and your games. In this case, that appears to be 1440 x 900.

Some searching through google, "alternativeto", YouTube, for video and audio editing or recording software, FREEWARE, showed BandiCam, Screencast-o-matic, Audacity, and I've been aware of Windows Movie Maker.
I would like to be able to make audio adjustments and audio changes to a few screencast videos.  I do not really undestand Audacity; but tried learning it many years ago.  I am absolutely not confident nor comfortable with learning Movie Maker; I am not sure how to handle Bandicam, having tried it briefly many many months ago.  I am comfortable with and have used Screencast-o-matic, the free downloadable version, a few times, and it was fairly easy to learn and to use.  I would just like to learn and use something a little bit more clever than Screen-cast-o-matic, and to edit or make changes to some video recordings.  FREE/FREEWARE wanted.

A:Video editing or including audio editing or recording

Hey, cafejose! I have used Movie Maker before. It is not that difficult in fact. And for freewares, then you can see some recommendations of ShowMore. This is a newly-built website that I am very fond of and I get quite a lot help from its application. I always take it to record Skype calls but I think it can also solve your problem here. For more alternatives, I advice you to take these free recording tools introductions for your reference.

I'm learning about recording tv on my pc using Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 950q. I converted a HD program from DVR-MS format to MPEG without changing the resolution and it was 1280x720. I am running my screen at 1024x768 so I can clone it to my TV without disabling Aero (Vista Home Premium 32bit) and My question is this, is it harder for my computer to display the 1280x720 image at 1024 resolution, or would it use less CPU and memory resources to change the desktop to 1280x1024 so the video would fit without rescaling? Thanks for reading this. paj692

I have been using Adobe Premiere Pro for a while now and I like it, but have had a number of problems with stability with it, and there are a number of things that annoy me. I am now looking for a new program. I am not a super power user, but I am an amature film maker and need most features. Cost is not too much of an issue as long as I get something really good.

I have been told to try out Sony Vegas and Pinnacle Studio. Any feedback regarding these and or others worth looking at? Unfortunately I am bound to a PC so can't take advantage of programs like Final Cut Pro.

So i'm thinking of making video clips or tutorials for games using a good software. I'd like it if its free, or considerably cheap. I've tried Fraps but the files were a little big and it slowed my computer down very low (though I still have it to record FPS). I've tried Growler Guncam and it didn't work with my computer (the "sound" and "gmp, jpg, etc" folders were hidden). I was thinking of getting Camtasia or CamStudio, but my friends said it is not good for gaming. I'm thinking of playing low-ish end games like Starcraft and Warcraft, just it shouldn't be a memory hog like Fraps...

Any suggestions?

Hi, Im getting bluescreens when using a video capturing/playback/editing program called cinedeck. It bluescreens when im reading or writing video files from different storage SSDs. We have a couple of these machines and only 1 seems to be acting this way which makes me think hardware. I also cloned the OS from a good machine and imaged the bad machine with it and it still gives bluescreens.

The OS is Win 7 x64 embedded.
If i leave the system on at windows desktop and no other programs running, it does not bluescreen. I have been getting the same bluescreen, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, wdf01000.sys

Hi there! First time post on this site. I could really need the help please. Sorry for the long post.

I am currently on vacation in Disney. I recently bought a Canon HF S100 for this vacation and brought along my laptop, ACER 6930, Windows Vista.

The camera is awesome, good AVCHD HD camera. I have it set to record in 24 FPS Cine mode at 24 MPS (1900x1080 lines?? ). The video format is in H.264 Streaming and MTS File. I have been downloading to this computer for the past 8 days.

My goal is to edit these vacation photos and videos onto both standard DVD and Blu Ray Discs. I am not a pro and have very little knowledge in computers, but can usually managed. My major problem right now is not being able to view my videos correctly in Imagemixer. The video quality and audio quality appears to be fine. However, the video is " jerky " and " stutters" when playing it on my computer. This specs on this laptop are ( reading from sticker ) Intel Core Duo processor, up to 1244 mb mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD, 3 GB DDR2, 320 GB HDD, DVD Super Multi DL, and 32 Bit Operating system. It is now currently showing 44 GB available in drive C and 1300 MB in total graphics memory available.

My questions are-

Can you confirm if it is indeed the blackmagic design video card driver that caused this bluescreen?

I'm an amateur video editor (VERY amateur, but that's not really important), and I'm wanting to do some 3D stuff, but I'm finding that Adobe After Effects really doesn't satisfy what I'm wanting to do (I guess it's just really not made for that). Unfortunately, I don't have $3,500 for 3DS Max, or even $200 for decent AE plugins (I got AE itself through a university discount program).

So, I really would like to know if there's a good (and necessarily free) program that does 3D video rendering, as in creating 3-dimensional objects and manipulating them (and not just flat surfaces in 3 space, but actual 3-dimensional objects in 3 space).

I'm dual-booting Ubuntu Hardy and Windows XP, so either a Linux or Windows program would be fine. Does anybody know of any?

Edit: Oh, yeah, and if it can do standard NTSC settings, that would be great (720x480 res w/ 0.9 pixel aspect ratio and 29.97 fps).

On holiday I used two old tapes in my Canon DV camcorder - they had been used just once before. The first I blacked out before reusing and the results were fine. The second I just recorded over and while the picture is fine when viewed in the camera or on TV when I try to edit it using Videowave the picture that appears is that of the original video, shot two years ago. I re-downloaded the new scenes and again the same problem, although with different scenes from the same 2008 holiday. I am baffled. I want to be able to edit this year's holiday video.

A:Video editing problems

Perhaps you cued the tape to the wrong position when you did the "download" or you are looking at the wrong file on the PC. When you copy video off a miniDV, you connect it via firewire and the PC software starts the camera in play mode. What you see on the camera screen gets transferred to the hard drive. There is no way for the camera to play one track and have the computer record a different one, is there?

Slightly off topic, I have recorded new video over old footage, and on one tape, the old video did not get fully erased. Instead, the new and old video were interlaced, and it was a mess. I experimented and saw it only happened on that one tape. So I figure. one never should re-use a video tape.

Hey guys,

I've been having severe trouble with video editing programs lately. I can never find a good program that does all of the things listed:
Able to create multiple video and audio tracks
Smooth preview
Some special effects to an acceptable degree (fading and flashes are all I need)

I have tried some commercial software but they honestly didn't do it for me. One software that I tried would *never* have the preview show up no matter what I tried so I moved on to another program. It showed a preview of the timeline but it would lag severely after 3-4 seconds of smooth video. Then I moved on to the classic Windows Movie Maker which have an excellent preview smoothness but doesn't allow me to have additional video tracks (unless I'm missing the option somewhere) and then I tried on to free video editing software. One of them froze the instant I imported my video and would always do it everytime I imported it. After the binges of video editing software I'm just close to giving up.

The solutions I've done to help resolve it:
I googled and one told me to install codecs or something so I did that (K-codecs). It helped show the preview but lagged every 3-4 seconds. And another one told me to reinstall Quicktime which did nothing.

Can someone please help me with a possible solution. I really want to make a video that I can show to my friends. =/

I recently bought two external SATA hard drives and connected them to my laptop via a PCMCIA card with eSATA ports. It works well. I use the hard drives primarily for video editing. With the faster transfer rates the drives make video editing a breeze.

Video footage is captured from my camcorder using the IEEE firewire. The footage is saved in my new SATA drives. After editing I send the footage back to my camcorder (printing to tape so to speak) using firewire. Immediately when I do this, the video stutters. I am unable to transfer my edited footage back to my camcorder.

As a test, I removed the PCMCIA card (severing connection with SATA drives), and replaced it with another external hard drive, this time USB connection. Oddly, the video from this drive to my camcorder works perfectly.

I would like to continue using new SATA drives. They work great when editing, but for some reason the video footage stored in these drives cannot be transferred to the camcorder. Is there some kind of bottle neck occurring since the transfer of the video from the hard drives is faster than firewire? I found no conflicts with my new drives.

I have an old HP Notebook ZX5000 and 1 gig or RAM

Your comments are greatly appreciated!

You then have to manually re-set to the correct resolution. Sometimes the system hangs and a manual reboot is necessary. Systems have all been checked to insure that the correct cables are connected. The newest NVIDIA drivers have been installed. Windows XP has been reinstalled on all systems. BIOS has been updated. New video cards have been installed. Now there saying motherboards need replacing. All six systems are 6 months old. Does anyone have any other ideas to try? It is becoming a very frustrating problem.

Thanks, Suzy
