Problem with SURT hanging when downloading (KB947821)

Q: Problem with SURT hanging when downloading (KB947821)

Looking down this list of current update failures,

one might be excused for thinking Microsoft has a serious problem which started a couple of days back.

I have spent the last two days trying to re- install failed up dates.

About twelve in all and only relative to two error codes (800F08260) for most of them, then an odd

two with (80070490). First I tried finding a restore point prior to everything going wrong. Windows was

less than appreciative of that and the restore failed. I tried updating single updates manually but no go,

they still failed. Two days back I put in new antivirus and firewall and I wondered if that was the problem,

so I disabled and went back to Defender and Windows firewall. Nope, that made no difference.

So I logged on here, took note of "Windows update posting instructions"

and worked my way down to the SURT program. I attempted to install the version for Win 7 64 bit

and initially it looked good and was installing (9KB947821) (which I was surprised to see was a Hot Fix? )

when it hung. I left it for a while but it just was stuck there, so I killed it with task manager and

downloaded a new version then installed it. It also reached the same point then hung.

If I go look at the update history it shows a failure for (KB947821) but then a success!

I suppose I should think myself lucky but, what I would like to know is, If I instigate Windows Updates

now. will they all work? In other words, was that hot fix the thing needed to get my system out of this

deepening pit it was/is in? Does Microsoft have a problem, or do I have a problem?

Preferred Solution: Problem with SURT hanging when downloading (KB947821)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Problem with SURT hanging when downloading (KB947821)

For everyone's info, the re-run of ten windows updates, failed when 35% into the re-boot.

This has started me thinking about alternative OS solutions.

I recently uninstalled Norton and since then, I cannot download or save a file to download (i.e. from an email or from a website). It will get to where it says it's downloaded or saved to 99% and hangs up there forever.

Also, just since I uninstalled Norton, when I run Windows update, the computer hangs up on "Checking for latest updates" screen.

Hi guys,

As you know Win7 is crappy with Windows Updates, yesterday i installed it and it can't even updates itself (unlike with Win10 which was flawless)

So after long searches , i found a way , follow this guide and it "should" solve the issue:

Search for Windows Updates takes forever? - A possible solution

so i downloaded and installed the march 2016 KB and after 30mn WU finally decided to download those needed updates...

I can't say if you should remove it or not. But to uninstall any windows update you go to Control Panel - Windows Update. Then View Update History, then Installed Updates (at the top). From there you can uninstall any update by right click - Uninstall.

I reformatted my drive 2 nights ago after a trojan gave me trouble.

Naturally I'm getting tons of updates and some won't update.

I had this problem before, came here and got a fix. This fix isn't working this time around.

I have looked thru other posts with the same issue but 2 things didn't work for me and I was confused by other posts as the posters knew more about the pc than I do.

Can someone help?

Thank you.

Hello, this is my first post here so sorry if I break any rules.

(There should be 3 pictures attached to this post, if they're not there, tell me and ill post them in the comments)

Recently I have been having an update error for an update in the windows updater. The first picture is my updater at this point.

As you can see, the update error is 800B0100. I have looked online for many solutions for this problem an none have worked, I have installed KB947821 multiple times. The second picture is of proof that my computer installed KB947821.

But, this is where the problem kicks in, I'm still having the error. The Third picture is my updater after installing KB947821.

Can anyone help? I really want to get this fixed because I practically live at this computer and this error is stopping me from launching most of my games, thanks in advance!

Hello, users of the forum.

Description of the problem:

I'm using Windows 7 64bit on my new system and I've been encountering issues with the Windows Live update. I have 12 updates labeled important ready to install but unfortunately I recieve error codes 800B0100 and 8007065E whenever I try installing them. I've found no information on the 8007065E code, however I've been told to run the CheckSUR when encountering 800B0100 error code. I downloaded the CheckSUR and ran it, and it wanted to install the KB947821 update which, as far as I understand, is a hotfix to help with errors encountered when running the Windows Live Update. The hotfix has been successfully installed several times, however my issues with the updater persists, and thus I seek help in this thread.

There don't appear to be any problems in the CBS.log file - while I get to the Persist files, please download and run the CheckSUR tool...

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
Make sure that you get the correct one for your system!

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your reply

Hello everyone today i can see "System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 (KB947821) [October 2014] " again being offered in the update center of windows
its detail
This tool is being offered because an inconsistency was found in the Windows servicing store which may prevent the successful installation of future updates, service packs, and software.

Though its original size was 228 MB but now its showing as 151.6MB just wanna know whether anyone else has seen this task in updates? and would like know that why is it really offered now since it was of OCT 14Is some sort of SP will come? or just a revision

A:System Update Readiness Tool (KB947821) [October2014] Being Re-Offered

The tool is only offered if Windows Update is having problems installing updates - it's designed to find and fix a lot of problems.

If you've already run the tool, please post the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file and the CheckSUR.Persist.log file, and I'll take a look and see what else needs fixing that the tool can't do for itself.

If you've not run the tool yet...

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

Please advise,
KB947821 stops installing at about 85% of the way through. I have turned off automatic installation, but it's stuck in a loop:
It attempts to install every time I turn off the laptop, tries and then fails to apply the installation when I turn on the laptop and won't respond when I try to stop the installation as administrator from the control panel.
Laptop seems to be running ok otherwise,
Thanks in advance,
AB

A:system update readiness tool KB947821 failing to install

KB947821 is the CheckSUR tool - and very rarely will it attempt to automatically install, since it's a tool to fix existing problems, rather than an update.

It will often take anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 or 4 hours to run, so leave it to run overnight - it will appear to have stalled for most of that time, but is in fact working hard.

If as you say, it's actually failing, then you may have some severe problems.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data - don't bother attempting to install CheckSUR again - the logs should already be present in the CBS folder, and can be posted.

Lately I've been getting these errors trying to install updates. The "automatic troubleshooter" just seems to reset the updates database to null and give me a green light. The updates still won't install. I searched around and found KB947821, downloaded Windows6.1-KB947821-v25-x64.msu, and ran it. It ran successfully but it doesn't help. I also turned off my security suite (Norton) but that doesn't help either. I did more searching around but I'm getting nowhere with this problem. Thank you for any assistance.

A:Can't download SURT tool to fix...?

The most likely reason for the MSRT to repeat is that it crashed at some point.
The most likely reason for that, is that the machine is infected.
Try this link for the CheckSUR tool...

Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 (KB947821) [October 2014] from Official Microsoft Download Center

Also...

Please download and install Malwarebytes Anti-malware (free version) from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ - UNtick 'Enable free trial of MBAM Premium' at the end of the installation - and update it, then run a full scan in your main account, and Quick scans in any other user accounts.

Log files don't mean a lot to me. But here goes for anyone who can interpret. Attached are the simple log files in plain and CBS zips after the SURT run - before and after failed software update

IE11 and YouTube: Someone asked for a better description of the problem. Best done with an example: If I open YouTube and attempt to type a search string e.g. Joe Bloggs, it locks up with a YouTube failing to respond pop-up at the bottom. On the other hand, if I type a search string into Google e.g. Joe Bloggs on YouTube, then I can click any of the links and YouTube runs perfectly, and more to the point, will accept any new search string.

In the mean time, I'll go look for updates after next Patch Tues/Wed so I can shut my machines down sensibly

A:Wrap up to the SURT suggestion (and IE11)

SURT found nothing wrong - and the CBS logs contain no useful data.

I understand that this SURT is supposed to resolve the eternal "searching for updates" so I would be extremely please if someone could tell me where this marvel can be found
Thanks a lot for your time

A:where can I find SURT tool to kick w7 updates

I don't know about SURT but the following will resolve the Windows update problem.

Follow these instructions exactly.
First, set Windows Updates to never check for Updates.
Next reboot your computer, then install KB3020369, if not installed.
Then install KB3172605.

Windows updates should return to normal. You can then reset your updates to automatically check for updates if desired

good evening, I have tried following your instructions to post information regarding the error, but surt fails to execute the hotfix.
For the past month, I kept getting disconnected from my wifi, it would stop working, and could not run the troubleshooter either.
I ran windows updater, it did update some files, but failed with 3 having to do with microsoft net framework.
I play FSX and P3D, today I tried upgrading my P3D to a new version and it failed as well, never happened before.
since I could not run surt, can you please guide me thru what steps I can take, this is driving me crazy and those games are what keeps my brain distracted from thinking about a bladder tumor.
I am enclosing the error logs as well.
Thanks.

I am going to ask a quick question while SURT is running on my laptop. I am very vulnerable on that pc as the updates have not updated since reinstall of win7 sp1 yesterday. Can I turn off my internet connection while that program is running? Thank you.

A:Running SURT for update problems-Compaq C62 laptop

Since no one has offered any advice, I just kept truckin'. I downloaded and I ran the SURT package. I have been at all of this since 11 this morning and succeeded in downloading 148 windows security updates. I was told after reinstalling sp1 there would be around 200 but the windows update menu indicated that 68 were "recommended" not important. That would bring the number to 196. I think I will just not worry about those 68 as they are not "important". Hope I am back in safe territory.

Please help me in solving a windows update failure. I have windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64.

The two windows updates that fail are
System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 (KB947821)
any Microsoft.NET framework both 4.5.2 (KB2901983) and 4.6.1 (KB3102433)

I found a similar thread and followed the steps in it, but no joy.
Performed SFC /scannow, but the WRP did not find any integrity violations. I tried to run the SURT tool (same tool as KB947821) by a manual download and run but it reports the "hotfix failed to install". So I don't have a SURT tool log to submit.

What's the next step?

Dear Sevenforums,

I just installed a new HDD by WD into a HP DV7T (2008), everything has been going well up until I tried to Update Windows. I did not retain anything from the previous installation as the previous hard drive up and quit on me!

I activated windows and had it confirmed as genuine.

I followed the instructions posted on another page and tried to install SURT and got an error: 0xc8000247.

I was hoping for some suggestions, Direct X , Java, MSE and Mechwarrior Online wouldn't install.

Perhaps a driver issue?

Have a great day all!

Sincerely,
Noodle123

A:New HDD, Windows will not update, cannot install SURT error code below

This error is due to problems with the hard drive drivers.
First, open Device Manager, and click on View > Show hidden devices

Are any devices showing with yellow triangles or red crosses?
If so, Uninstall them, then reboot and see if that cures the problem.

if not...

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

I'm having a weird problem for the past few days. On my laptop, I can surf to most websites, but can't sign into hotmail and yahoo mail ... I get a 'Page cannot be displayed' error after I enter my username and password.

However, I have a desktop as well ... and at the same time that my laptop browser gives an error, I can logon to the same websites from my desktop without an issue.

I've also have experienced a similar problem logging onto eBay, mapquest etc … and I had the same problem right now while posting this message! My laptop gave a ‘page cannot be displayed’ error when I clicked on ‘preview post’ … so I had to post this from my desktop.

This problem has been haunting me for several days on just these few websites, so its not a case of a server being temporarily down.

The laptop has WinXP, and the browser is IE ver
6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633
The desktop has Win98, and the broswer is IE ver 6.0.2800.1106

I had uninstalled JRE from my laptop earlier this week; and I wondered whether that was causing this problem. But the problem persists even after I reinstalled 'Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.1_02'.

Please help!

Hi all-

This is my first post so hopefully I'm doing it correctly.

I've been having issues with my Windows update service not checking for updates since it says the service isn't running. I have tried various other fixes that I've seen in other threads such as running Malwarebyte and FSS. When running those tools, no issues were found.

I downloaded SURT, and while the installation will initialize, it stops and gives me a 0xc8000247 error.

I ran sfc /scannow and have attached the log file below.

I have also enclosed the CBS logs as requested.

I am running Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) and have SP1 installed. Please advise if there is any additional information that you need. If it matters, the computer in question is an HP Pavilion DV8.

Thank you,

Tom

I've previously posted for help under "Performance & Maintenance". I thought it would be more appropriate to ask for help here.

I believe I've a corrupt file system/registry. The windows explorer hangs a lot. I've a hard time accessing files on the hard drive. Ran Malwarebytes, NOD32 online scanner. It's all clean. SFC doesn't run.

So, I've run SFCfix.exe & attached the most recent version of SFCfix.txt & CBS.zip.

I've attempted some repairs by running Windows Update Readiness tool, looking at CHECKSUR.log, by downloading the individual updates mentioned in the log, placing them in C:\windows\temp\checksur\packages folder, and running WURT again & the summary of checksur.log reads.

How's that for a Topic?

I first noticed the problem while trying to install QuickBooks.
It complained about the .NET framework.
When I went to Add/Remove Windows components, it was blank.
I googled and studied more.
I tried SFC /scan now. "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."
Notice Application log is full of 1001 - Windows Error reporting with the following:

I appreciate any help you can offer.

Hello, I recently replaced a defective HDD in my laptop with a new WD Black 750G HDD, re-installed my Windows 7 image using my recovery DVDs, but can't seem to update Windows OR start Windows Defender (error 0x8e5e0247). I followed the steps from "Windows Update Posting Instructions" and am listing the results:-

1. System Update Readiness Tool installation resulted in error:0xc8000247.

2. Also performed SFC Scan three separate times and received the same "WRP found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them." (see attached CBS)

When I manually try to install updates, I get "Windows Update cannot check for updates because the service is not running. Restart your computer." But if look in local services (Task Manager) Windows Update is started & running.

Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.
PS: There were some programs included in the restore, Norton AV being one of them. I uninstalled it, then downloaded the Norton Removal Tool & ran that as well. I'm mentioning this because it was recommended several times in other threads regarding this same error.

Hello sameer000,

Start with cleaning the inside of the case with a can of compressed air making sure

that fans and vents are clear of dust.

Make sure that all Drivers are up to date on the system.

Run disk cleanup and defrag the HDD.

Post the BSOD error message.

Click Start > Run > type msconfig

Under the Startup tab remove the startup applications that's not needed.

What anti-virus/firewall are you running? Update it and run a full scan on

the system.

I have to wait for Windows media player to open if i try open other program or switch programs all the programs hang. Happens when i am typing a web address or even switching from chat. It takes long time to recover and it happens again and again my CPU usage is normally taken up by bit defender or Windows media player (over 50 don't no why). I ran antivirus but nothing turned up no spyware or anything suspicious. Please help me resolve this issue.
