Host - Host VPN not symetric

Q: Host - Host VPN not symetric

I have a host-host VPN set up between a Cisco SR520 router and a PIX 515E. Connection at my end is AT&T DSL, static IP, netopia DSL modem. Don't know the service at the other end, but I do know it is a web hosting company.

I can ping the designated host computer at the other end via the VPN tunnel. They cannot reliably ping my end. If I have ping -t running to the other end, a ping coming my way works. Otherwise, not. The last two Cisco techs I have spoken with have no clue (and they have logged into both routers to examine the configuration).

Early on, we had a 2Wire DSL modem. AT&T acknowledged that its SPI firewall can be problematic. They recommended the netopia as being more transparent. Its firewall has been totally disabled.

Suggestions?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When you can't ping through the tunnel, how long is it after the last session through the tunnel? Did you do a show crypto isakmp sa to see if the tunnel is still up? Depending on the settings of the keep alives and hellos over the tunnel, the tunnel could have been brought down due to inactivity. But normally, the tunnel should just re-establish itself on the next keep alive/hello interval. If the tunnel is down, it will take a minute or so before traffic moves across the tunnel again due to the overhead of the tunnel being brought up.

What is your exact network layout? Are you doing a remote VPN configuration or a LAN to LAN (site to site) configuration where the VPN tunnel is between the SR520 and the 515E. The above assumes you are doing a LAN to LAN tunnel. Also, is the DSL modem you have bridged or still operating as a router. If it is still operating as a router, you should turn the modem into a pure modem and not a modem/router.

I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, and have installed the Virtual XP mode.  A long time ago Virtual XP was fully running, with access to host resources (drives etc).  But my system underwent some software changes, and then Virtual XP could no longer
access the host resources.  After trying (unsuccessfully) all the tricks found on several forums, I decided to uninstall then reinstall Virtual XP, which I have just done.  But I still can't access host drives.  Here's how Virtual XP is set
up:
Workgroup name is set to the same as my host (confirmed in 'My Computer'/Properties/Name);
Networking 'Adapter 1' set to my host's NIC;  I have assigned a fixed IP address to the Virtual XP (this has worked previously; all devices on my Win7 network have fixed addresses, for good reason).

Integration Features has ticks in the boxes for those host drives I want to access from VXP.
I can successfully ping the host, via name or IP address;  I can successfully ping web sites by name (e.g. 'yahoo.com').  But when I open Windows Explorer and open the 'My Network Places' tree, it opens down to the name of my host workgroup, but
when I click on that workgroup name, after several seconds it pops up an error box saying: "<workgroupname> is not accessible.  You might not have permission to use this network resource.  <blah blah>.  The service has not been
started."
Any suggestions on how to get access to my host... Read more

IBM Connect Direct application used for Host to Host connectivity has been picked up as a Trojan Virus by some Microsoft Security Products including Defender, System Centre Endpoint Protection, System Centre Endpoint

The result is that Connect Direct is deleted by the security software.
Question: What will be the implication of excluding this from the security policy?

I have a local area network of four Windows 7 PCs. The PCs are named Term1, Term2, Term3 and Term4.

Term1 is the server PC.

When I map to Term1 from the other Terms(2,3 and 4) I always used the command:
Net use F: \\Term1\c /user:Admin 1234

This worked fine before; now it suddenly refuses to connect this way ? I have to replace Term1 with the actual IP address of Term1 for it to work.

I
have tried the following Admin CMD commands:

netsh
int ip reset
ipconfig
/flushdns

All of these commands make no difference; I just can't connect using the server name (Term1).

What I strangely noticed is that from any of the terminals connected to Term1 (using the IP address); if I use, for example, ping Term1,
I get an address return of 127.0.0.1.home;
this address of 127.0.0.1.home will
display if I ping to Term2, Term3 or Term4.

I cannot find any solution on the web for this strange problem.

Greetings,

I need drivers for an old cable mark as (Wiretec)  USB host to host bridge which contain the chip GL620USB-A , It has color like Green and aboud 2 meters.

Does someone know where I can find a device driver so that USB will work. Right now only my USB host to host bridge is not recognized/enabled. I can't find anywhere a device driver; neither on the included CD(It's damaged) nor the internet.

If there's no driver available, are there any alternatives so.

I need help, not 30 lashes with a wet noodle. I feel stupid enough already.

I think I have a failed uninstall of Norton Internet Securities 2004 and I may not have completely removed MSN 9.0 either. The machine was handed down to me from my fifteen year old daughter, who feels that it has "a bunch of Trojans".

It is a Presario S5000NX running WinXP SP2. It has two XP clients, one of which can access the internet and be seen (usually) by other machines. The 95 client can be seen by all machines but cannot see any of them. The samba (Mandrake 10.1) client can't be seen but can (usually) see the host, 95 client, and one XP client, and can access the internet. The other XP client cannot be seen or go online, but can (usually) access files from (some of) the other computers. The samba client double-boots in Win2000 and can then access the host, 95 client, and accessible XP client, but cannot be seen. The 95 client cannot access the internet.

This ethernet LAN connectivity is subject to change without notice or apparent reason.

It is currently running AVG free and Sygate free; whenever I try to install stronger security software, I lose network connectivity (which is hardly perfect in the first place) and have to run an XP system restore.

I can also scan across the network with NOD32 on a client computer. Neither it nor AVG nor Ad-Aware nor Spybot turn anything up.

Let's start with a hijackthis log:

I am using Windows XP home edition.

I posted this in the wrong forum, a few days ago: and was advised to post it here,
with a new hjt log. They did say that I had more serious problems than just my host file needing to be restored. They also said that there didn't seem to be a firewall. How can I find out if I'm using Window's firewall?

Arovax Shield popped up a message: "Warning: Your Windows host file was hijacked. It is recommended to restore host file."

1. Now I can't use my anti-virus program, because it stalls (freezes) before it finishes.

2. I can't use Panda or any other on-line scanner, because it too freezes before it can
finish.

3. I can't shutdown my computer - not even cold boot! I have to completely unplug it!

4. I can't do a system restore, to a previous date. (I've tried several previous dates).

I have no idea how to restore the host file, and I have no idea how it was hijacked.

Here is my new HJT log: (I hope it will be of some help)

Try deleting or renaming the Hosts file.
It will be recreated, so no harm to try.

I'm here through a circuitous path. It started with an alert from Windows Defender Beta2 after latest update (1.14.1396) on 4/13/06. Message was "Possible Hosts file Hijack", Description: This program has potentially unwanted behavior. Resources: file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" Found no useful additional info at WD Beta2 site. So I started search to learn about hosts file. Found and read bleeping FAQs, posts, etc., on hosts files. There are pages and pages on this topic and many different suggested HOSTS file installations and various ways to install them. Mostly Greek to me (beta.. ha!). It's all VERY confusing. This much I know: I have 2 hosts files, both in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\ , one is hosts, named "hosts iCalendar file 1kb". Ok, this is going to be a simple question,

you see, I'm pretty noob at anything concerning networking especially when it is video game networking.

Me and my friend are trying to host a game in Heroes of Might and Magic V, but we simply can't, and I would like to get basic help to make it work.

On my side, I have a D-Link DIR-625 router, and I don't know how to access the main control panel, if I can say. I know you gotta type something in your Internet browser, but "home" and stuff like this doesn't seem to work. Anyway, what do I basically need to do? Sometimes I hear about opening ports or something, but this is my second problem.

My friend, on his side, can host games on Warcraft 3, he said he managed to open ports or something to make it work. But when he tried to host on HOMM, it didn't work, even though we had opened the ports (or we thought we had).

Is there anything that is more simple that we could do to host online matches on video games? Like, something that would always work and that doesn't require to be an expert tech guy

It has probably been asked before, but I couldn't find anything relevant.

ok i just subscribed to a web-hoster to set up my g/f's candle business. what now? do i need to go out and buy a domain for her site? or is the host all i need? also, does anyone have any recommendations on where to buy a domain? thx

A:to host or not to host

The answers may depend on the web hosting service. Have you checked with the service you signed up with to see if they offer domain name registration?

Some paid hosting services, like http://www.netidentity.com/, may offer one or more choices of a preset domain name with a customized sub-domain as part of their hosting package. For example, let's say the hosting company's web site home page at was www.webhoster.com . They may give you a domain name like www.mycandlecompany.webhoster.com .

Other paid hosting services, like http://www.lunarpages.com/, may include free domain domain name registration as part of an annual hosting fee.

There are also domain name registration services like www.godaddy.com.

So what I want here is more of a discussion than answers to specific problems.

I run my own business doing home and small office computer repair, and it seems that recently (in the last couple weeks) I've been gettin an alarming number of problems relating to svchost. Windows claims to have a patch for it, but the patch seems unpredictable at best.

So here're my questions: Has anyone else noticed a similar trend? What's causing this, and what can we do about it? Fixing the problem has been relatively trivial. What I want is a method by which we can prevent the problem in the first place.

I'd greatly appreciate any input.

Ramses

As I understand it, if you have all Windows critical updates [or SP2] the patch would have been included and works ok.

i had to share my computer with my brother. he figured out a way to access all my files, so i encrypted them. then a few days later, i backed up the hdd onto a portable hdd. needless to say a week later, i needed to reformat. now, how can i recover the encrypted data w/o the key or the symetric crap and the whatnot, if its even possible.

i realize how dificuilt this will be so, i honestly dont expect a response. just putting it out there.

A:Encrypted files but...not right symetric codeing

:chef: Well, how did you encrypt the data files. Are you running XP? Need more info about the specifics to help you.

We are using hostheaders for our websites (for transparency reasons ... so if the website changes server, the user is unaware as no server name is mentioned in url).. The only problem is the sites are taking approx. 15 seconds to load. We do not want to add any entries to local host / lmhost files (would involve visiting every desktop), and we have already placed entries into WINS and DNS. Website is running on W2K advanced and desktops are Windows 98.... Anyone any idea's how to speed up access to these websites using host headers?

A:host headers

Ever tried just the web servers IP address? Then it won't have to be resolved by WINS or a DNS server.

While I'm waiting for possible answers to my other thread another question arose. I installed IE Host File as suggested in the Security Thread by dvk01 but I am getting a message that Win32/Hostblock is a virus located in C:/Windows/system32/drivers/etc/. Is this just a false alarm because I downloaded the IE Host File?

I am also getting the message something is unable to access its data dirctory. It's either invalid, unreachable or another program is accessing.

I'm sorry to be such a bother trying to figure all this out.

These are all related to cFosSpeed Driver. It is a known cause of BSOD's and even I had to remove it.

I have read a way to clear out the garbage in the HOST files. I have used it many times, because if I don't, pages will not open. Is there a way to block these items from the HOST FILES?

Thanx sooo much....

A:Host Files

dowload Hoster , then run it. In the top righthand corner you'll need to click the button, "Make host Readonly"

I have stopzilla on my computer and i have a virus or trojon or something in there also when I started playing around in the system files I discovered the host files which I learned to open with notepad there are files inserted by stopzilla which are porn sites , does stopzilla insert these to stop them or allow these sites to run?Mod Edit: This will be moved to a more appropriate Forum.

A:help with host files

With all the free applications and alternate browsers that stop popups available, I hope you didn't pay for Stopzilla. Checking about the application on the internet, I didn't find anything to indicate it would allow such sites to run. Have you run any anti-spyware applications recently?

John
