[SOLVED] windows 7 - monitor driver disabled - monitor does not work

Q: [SOLVED] windows 7 - monitor driver disabled - monitor does not work

Question: How can I reactivate my monitor without reformatting the hard drive?
This is what happened:
Two monitors were hooked to my computer, (Dell Inspiration), and I had to reduce it into one monitor.

I opened: screen resolution
Clicked on: Advanced settings
Clicked on: Monitor
Clicked on: Driver
Clicked on: Disable

After I did that, one monitor became completely dark, and the second monitor display was if it would run in safe mode, (graphic quality was so bad, it hurt to my eyes to watch it). I checked the device list and both monitor was removed from the list, there were no monitor listed anymore (before they were there).
I tried the system restore, but after the system restore finished, there were no more connection with the monitor.
When I start the computer, the monitor works for few seconds, shows the start up process, and right after the windows logo displayed, it shuts off. I tried to reboot in "safe mode", and it starts up as usual, (the monitor works), but before it reaches the desktop screen, it shuts off.
Windows version is: Windows 7
Computer: DELL Inspiration 546s
Operating System: 64-bit
Processor: AMD

Thank you in advance for your help

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: [SOLVED] windows 7 - monitor driver disabled - monitor does not work

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking, go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, Right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager, are there any devices with a Red or Yellow flags next to them? If It is Red (Disabled) then right click it and Enable it.
If it is a Yellow Exclamation mark, then you need to download the video driver for your model. First try Right clicking the yellow mark and then Uninstall. Then Right click any device and choose Scan For Hardware Changes, this should reinstall the previous Video Driver, then restart the computer in normal mode.
If that doesn't work, Go to the Dell Support/Download drivers site Product Support | Dell US type in your service tag # or make and model# and download the Video driver for your model.

My Computer:

Asus P5B motherboard
ViewSonic Monitor
Windows XP

I have been attempting to solve issues with my computer. I recently reinstalled windows XP and was working on installing my monitor driver and software and ran into problems. In trying to problem solve I did something pretty stupid. On Windows XP, right clicked on Desktop selected "properties", selecting the "Settings" tab I clicked on "Advanced". I selected the "monitor" tab and then selected "properties". Under "General" Tab, I moved down to my "Device usage" and "disabled" it and pressed "OK".

The problem I have now is I can't see anything (black) on my monitor when windows starts. I can see my Bios screens and the Windows Loading screen, but after windows loads and desktop should appear all I get is black.

How can I reverse what I've done and fix this?
Most Grateful for any help.

I have HP Desktop Tower Pavilion with windows 10, I had two HP S2031 monitors in dual mode, worked fine. One of them died, I got a good deal on a larger HP 27er monitor.  I hooked it up, they were both working fine ... it was using a default monitor
setting ... and then yesterday the computer downloaded some updates, and in doing so, it downloaded the driver for the HP 27er and installed.  The next thing that happens is the older HP S2031 starts to go dark ... like it is going into sleep mode, and
then it is totally black.  On reboot, it starts up with both monitors working, but within seconds of reboot the HP S2031 goes black again. The HP S2031's buttons do nothing, other than the power button, which turns it off and on, but that is it.
I have done all troubleshooting, I did not even have them set up to sleep, all settings are at NEVER.  In coming here, I have done all the fixes I can find for similar  that are posted for similar issues, the Windows Key + W... nothing.
The create new power plan ... nothing.  the device manger>display adapters>disable then enable ... nothing.  and lastly Start>Control Panel>System>Device Manager>display adapter>driver tap>update ... still nothing.  HOW
DO I GET THE HP S2031 MONITOR TO NOT BE IN SLEEP AND HAVE BLACK SCREEN.  I can not figure this out and am not finding any fix.

Friend's laptop "wouldn't boot up" HP G6-247CL
Turned out video output was channeled to the vga port Fn+F4 on this model switched back and forth.
Cleaned out tons of viruses, everything good now, but laptop boots up with monitor #1 (Generic PnP monitor on NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G) as remote vga jack, and monitor #2 (default monitor on NVIDIA 8200M G) as my laptop screen as disabled.

When I try to make the laptop screen enabled (by extending the screen to it, then selecting "this is my main monitor), and click apply or save, it asks me to confirm, but doesn't take.

Deleting the drivers can sometimes get the laptop display running as primary, until the next book, then it all reverts to the remote vga port as primary.
if I boot with a linux disc - Kaspersky rescue, for example, it uses the laptop screen just tine.
So what, in a perfect world, should be my primary screen (the laptop screen) is identified as monitor 2 in DISPLAY SETTINGS. My VGA jack should be secondary but is always monitor 1

other notes: Fn+F4 no longer does anything ... will not switch between, I guess because my laptop screen is disabled.

Please help!

Hi All-

I posted this previously and I suppose it was really too boring or there were so many other posts or whatever - so I got no answer, but I may have a bit more info this time. Ever since I totally crashed my computer months ago my monitor will not shut off. I had to completely wipe the computer and then reinstall the OS. I am very sure that I installed all the drivers and looked for updated ones. However, in the device manager area I don't show a monitor. I do show a big yellow question mark (3 of them actually) saying "unknown, Video controller, VGA compatable." Oh, I have a Samsung SyncMaster 151v on a Sony Vaio and they are approximately 5 years old. I'm running XP Pro. I have the CD with the driver and it won't let me install, simply giving me an error code of (259). I went to Samsung and found that their driver was a year younger. I downloaded and unzipped it and got the same error code when I clicked on it. I really know little about computers - I don't know what video card I have, if I have one, etc. I could get all that from Belarc or HiJackThis I guess. My problem is that I set the thing to shut off at night and it won't do it. I set the timing after the screen saver and the screen saver will just go all night. I also tried it without the screensaver and it didn't help. Maybe someone can tell me where I may go elsewhere to get a driver , or, I'm guessing , this problem is probably more serious that that.

Me and my friend just finished our computer, we had a few issues with the NZXT Phantom case at first: they didn't send us a few screws so we had to go to the local tech store and buy a few, but everything worked out.

Anyway

Our screen seems to be having a slight problem: the image of the screen is not taking up the entire space provided by the screen.
There is an option that we found: Auto Image Adjust, and I am sure this is the right one, except: it's disabled!

It's a ViewSonic VX2450wm-LED Full HD 1080p
We have Windows 7 installed on it, and everything is working fine.
The Screen Resolution is set to 1920 x 1080.
DPI Setting is at 150%

Thank's for the help!

Hi there @Beelady11, Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.  I understand that one display is not working with your new computer, but it works with an older one without trouble. I am happy to help you with this. What is the model of the display you are trying to use?Have you checked for drivers for that display? What type of connection are you using to the computer? (VGA/DVI/HDMI)Are you using the exact same connection on the computer when you test with another display? There is a possibility that if you are testing using different connectors, that the ones on the board itself are disabled. This would depend on whether a video card is installed or if you are using the integrated display adapter.See the: HP Pavilion 550-179na Desktop PC Product Specifications and you will seethe following note for the integrated graphics adapter.Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed. This means that the on-board video connections, linked to the integrated adapter would be disabled. Please let me know how that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

Hello,
First, thank you for your help. Second, I'm new to the forum world. This is my first post, so bear with me.

My supervisor purchased a new (monster) computer for me. I run CAD programs, and possibly in the future will be running BIM software. Therefore, before purchasing the monster computer, the CAD and BIM software specs and manufacturer were consulted to ensure the new computer would service all needs. It is a wonderful computer. This supervisor also purchased two amazing monitors (Dell UltraSharp 25 Monitor with PremierColor), suggested when purchasing the computer.

The problem:
MY new OS has been downgraded by IT from Windows 10 to Windows 7 (office IT rules), and now one of the new monitors will not function properly. The monitor will work for a moment, then go blank if bumped or moved. The IT office told me every time the monitor is bumped it resets the BIOS; therefore, I cannot use one of my new monitors. Now I'm working with one good monitor, and one shitty monitor. This is liking asking someone to ride a bike with one good tire and one flat. And completely ridiculous to have a brand new monitor thrown into storage to collect dust.

IT cannot figure out how to make the new monitor to work. Their solution was to give me a lesser quality monitor and refused to figure out how to correct the problem. This attitude is not acceptable, especially when good money has been spend on very nice equipment.

I know there is a way to correct the problem. I don't... Read more

Samsung monitor model S24A350H will display no computer output.

First off, I've connected a good monitor to the computer and it works. I've connected the troubled monitor to another system and it will not work on another system so the problem follows the monitor. This monitor has analog and digital (HDMI) inputs; but, we have nothing here that puts out to HDMI.

If I turn on the monitor without its being connected to the computer, it searches for the HDMI for about three seconds and then the analog for about another three. Then it displays "Check Signal Cable", displays a red, green and blue dot and "HDMI" all in a small rectangular box that floats all over the screen.

If I connect an analog cable to a computer then turn it on, it looks for an HDMI signal for about three seconds (as above), then checks for an analog signal for about half a second (instead of the three seconds above) or less and then goes blank/black. Based on the fact that it displays searching for analog for such a short time when analog is actually connected, I assume it is sensing analog is connected but can't do anything with the signal.

I have eliminated the CCFL and the inverter as a possible cause and there seems to be no manual settings for user-selectable HDMI or Analog.

And I have read the troubleshooting section of the manual which is no help.

Anyone know of any magic dust for this?

Before the move the monitor would turn on whenever I booted up the PC, now when I boot up the PC I get the following message on the monitor:

Monitor is working - B

Behind each option is a corresponding colour ie G - Green, R - Red B - Blue.

I have no idea what is going on, I have reconnected everything the exact way it was before I moved it....

After installing a new hard drive in my computer and reloading Windows 98 I am having several driver problems etc. The one that I need to address first is my monitor. When I go to Display in the control panel and click on settings, I only have a choice of 2 colors or 16 colors. The other choices are not there. Also the Pixels cannot be changed. It is not a problem of something not being plugged in right, because I can put my old hard drive back into the computer and everything works right. Can you tell me what I need to do to get these additional settings to work. I need to make some adjustments to the pixels to get one of my software programs to work. It could possibly be something to do with an interrupt problem because I had to change the interrupt on a network adapter in order to get the network to work.

Hello, I was just adding a new DVD drive to my desktop computer and just took it out to my patio, put it in, and then closed it back up. I blew inside the tower a little to get some of the dust out. After, I tried starting my computer and then the monitor didn't work. It could not detect the computer and nothing happened. The computer was up and running (from what I saw) but the monitor wasn't working.

At first, I thought it was the monitor, so I tried a different monitor on the computer, but that didn't detect the computer also.

So then I thought it was the graphics card, but I realized my graphics card is an integrated graphics card.

So, I just put in another graphics card, plugged the monitor into that output, but it still didn't work.

I don't know what's going on, could somebody please help?

Can I install the driver of the "new" monitor now so that when it is hooked up to it, it will be recognized by Windows? If so, how do I do this as right now XP's generic driver is being used?

Monitors do not need drivers.

All a monitor driver does (when one is available) is to restrict the resolution and refresh rates to those supported by the monitor.

As long as you actually set the Windows monitor driver to match the specs of the monitor it should be fine.

What you do need to do is reload the driver for your graphics adapter, as it will probably be struggling on the Windows default one.

I have an HP laptop and I have been running it with dual monitors. I finally decided to upgrade to Windows 7 and after I installed it I noticed that the built in monitor of my laptop looked strange and when I opened the display settings to change the screen resolution and set the external monitor as a separate monitor rather than a mirror I noticed that only one monitor was detected and it was the external one (Generic non-pnp monitor on standard VGA graphics adapter) and the built in monitor does NOT show up at all.

I've tried the detection button, in hopes that the computer would read the built in monitor and I could fix the problem. This did not help. I tried unplugging/replugging the external monitor to no avail. I tried restarting without the external monitor plugged in and it STILL reads the built in monitor as if it is the external one. Is there anyway to fix this? I have not tried re-installing the OS, not yet anyways.

Any suggestions ?

Hi,

He switched the Hz from 60 to 59, and then the Monitor said 'Unsupported video signal.'
So, I read on the internet to change the Hz back too 60, and the resolution down on another monitor, I did, but now the monitor continues to do this!
It says Unsupported video signal.
I already reset the monitor to factory settings, and I can't seem to get it too work.
I've tried everything, even looking to make sure the settings on my PC weren't being changed (like 60 going back too 59hz)
So, Please may anyone comment how I can make it work?

I've tried many obvious things. My model is Toshiba 24L400U 24' tv,
and the resolution on the tv is 1360 x 736 (Thats max) and windows says that 24' monitors go up to 1900 x 1200...

Hi. I have a HP dv7-4260ca with switchable graphics. The graphics cards are the AMD 4200series and the AMD 6550M.

My problem is, the Dell monitor always mirrors what my laptop is showing. Even when I set my screens to extend, they are always the same. It worked fine in Windows 7. I did the upgrade install, but the problem was there, so then I did the clean install, wiping everything, but the problem was still there within a minute of booting into Windows.

Another thing is, my laptop thinks it is connected to three monitors, when it's actually only connected to two, the laptop screen, and the Dell monitor.
The monitors are as follows: http://puu.sh/1jAoD
1. Other http://puu.sh/1jAp3 (my laptop screen, recommended resolution 1024*768)
2. Mobile PC Display (the ghost monitor that I can never see or remove)
3. Generic Non-PnP Monitor (My Dell monitor that mirrors my laptop no matter what)

Even when I set my Dell monitor to extend from my main laptop monitor, it still shows what my laptop shows. Here's a screenshot of the settings I used for that: http://puu.sh/1jAqy

When I press Win+P and select PC Screen Only, both the laptop and the monitor are blank.
When I press Win+P and select Duplicate, the monitor mirrors the laptop, and my mouse can move off to the right of the screen, as if there were another monitor there. These are the settings that selecting duplicate sets: http://puu.sh/1j... Read more

(crossposted from Graphics Cards here: Windows 8 - Getting my second Dell Monitor to work)

Or display and the settings are not changing for me. Rebooted the computer 3x and also the 2nd monitor 4x and nothing changes. This is a VGA monitor hook up.

A:Windows updated 8.1 and now 2nd monitor won't work.

Are you using video card drivers from MS or it's manufacturer ? If it's MS's driver it may be updated to wrong one.

Im doing this for my Dad, so i have absolutely no idea how to describe the problem but i figured this place was my best shot as google is giving me no results on my query.
There appears to be no monitor drivers installed on the pc... and its running from the bare minimum settings. I think the refresh rate is set at a low low low setting, because lets say, if i move a window by dragging it across the screen, its all choppy, doesnt move smoothly at all... sort of like it jumps every half a second until i stop moving my mouse, then stops. The same with when i'm scrolling in internet explorer... smooth scrolling doesnt exsist! lol

I figured it was a driver problem seeing as there wasnt one installed. So i found the disk with the drivers on, and followed the instructions, which were as follows:
"Right Click" the mouse anywhere on the "BLANK" area on the desktop and click on PROPERTIES.
Click the SETTINGS tab and then click ADVANCED.
Click the MONITOR tab and then click PROPERTIES.
Under MONITOR PROPERTIES, click DRIVER then click UPDATE DRIVER.
On the HARDWARE UPDATE WIZARD, select Install from a list of specific location (ADVANCED) then click Next.
On the next HARDWARE UPDATE WIZARD window, select DON’T SEARCH, I WILL CHOOSE THE DRIVER TO INSTALL. Then click NEXT.
On the following window, click on HAVE DISK.
Type “D:\ENGLISH\DRIVERS” (Where “D” is the drive letter of your CD ROM Drive) on INSTALL FROM DISK window then click on OK.

Additional monitor drivers are usual not needed. What do you have for a video adapter and are those drivers installed? Right click on My Computer choose Properties/Hardware/Device Manager. What information is listed under Video Adapters?
Also what are your screen resolution and refresh settings?

Hi!
I recently bought a DVI cable to plug my external LG monitor to my laptop to run nVidia's DualView (stretch format) across the two monitors. I'm using a beta driver (169.04 from laptopvideo2go.com), and when I enter nVidia control panel and go into the setup additional monitors tab, it only lets me choose "choose only ONE monitor". So I did that just to test that my monitor was plugged in right, and it worked. So I KNOW that my monitor is working and is being recognized by Vista. But when going into display settings byt right clicking on my desktop, it also only recognizes 1 monitor. Is it my beta display driver messing my Vista up? Or what could it be?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

A:Solved: Dual monitor in Vista not working. Only showing 1 monitor.

for drivers to work properly in vista i'm pretty sure you have to have signed drivers, since it's beta are you sure they are signed?

Sorry for the long text, I'm trying to send as much information i have.

Hello forums!
A few years ago i built a new gaming pc because i wanted to be able to play high quality games. But since day 1 i've had nothing but problems. Whenever i play one of my high quality games such as "Assassins Creed, Tomb Raider, Battlefield 3 or Primal Carnage" the monitor goes completely blank showing a "no signal to monitor" sign after gaming for between 5 minutes to up to 2-3 hours. The monitor sometimes also shows different color stripes either for examples: orange, pink or grey. The sound of my friends on skype usually keeps going for about 20 seconds before going silent, the sound of the game shuts off instantly or goes in a loop or starts with a loud buzzing sound. The fans and the LED's on my pc are still going but i can't control anything on the pc making me have to force restart my pc on the power button.
I've been on this forum before talking to this guy who is helping me but he's been quite busy lately so i need some extra help.
I've updated all drivers to latest, i never overheat, the GPU does not go over 51C when gaming and CPU never goes over 51C either.
I've upgraded my 650W powersupply to a 850W power supply and is one of the highest rated best performance power supplies you can find.
I tried to RMA my graphics card but they found nothing wrong with it and sent it back.
I bought two new sticks of RAM 4GB each, still... Read more

I have an old monitor. Can't find the off-the-wall manufacturer in driverguide.
I'm thinkin it was in dev mngr as a SiS 626 on an old PC I had (I could be terribly wrong here).
If I start fooling around with drivers, the monitor may become garbled and I won't be able to get in to see to make changes... is this a correct assumption? I recall making some changes to a PentI I had some time ago and having to blindly revert the changes cos the monitor was using colors it couldn't handle.
I just formatted/installed win98se on the e-machine, haven't ran win update cos when I did it initially, the sys just hung cos all the updates.
I ran Belarc and got this:
VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller Standard PCI Graphics Adapter
(VGA) [Display Adapter] default monitor
I'm sitting at 16 colors/640x480 pixels... and need to bump it up a notch; say 800x600???
Also strange is as win loads it uses the full viewable area but as my desktop comes up I have a 1" or so black border... I can't alter this at all using adj on the monitor. Any clues?
Catchya later and thanks in advance

Morning all,

I have a friends computer here at work, we did a fresh install with his recovery disks since when he has had the machine in storage for some time now and couldn't get into windows without it feezing on him even on safe mode...

So after installing everything seems ok, but when he tries to hook up his
monitor (LG l1720P) the Drivers on the CD give an error Message "LGE has cause error in Dirapi.DLL" ....Which won't allow for the display adapters to install which causes his display to be stuck at 640 x 480....i've tried all I can think of..but it's all the same...the driver for the monitor shows in device manager...but I get a Standard Display adapter which I believe it why he can't change his resolution....

I've tried going on the LG website, but it's no longer on there site for download, or any other driver web site...can someone please help

Trying to be helpful to my hubby, *sigh*, I was browsing through Properties to *fix* something that went awry with his display. I noticed his display was set to Nvidia, and changed it back to default. WRONG!!!

Now we can't find a way to change it back. When he boots, all his icons disappear off the left of his screen. When he tries to open anything at all, it also disappears off the left of the screen. All you can see is his wallpaper and the bottom tool bar.

We tried rebooting in Safe Mode, but you can't change monitor drivers there.

(Compaq Presario S6000V, Win XP, Samsung flat screen monitor, Nvidia card was installed for high-demand games.)

We're desperate, guys! What can we do to put it back?

I brought a monitor home from the office and am trying to find the software I will need to use it.

The monitor is a Princeton LCD1510, I am running XP on a Dell P.O.S. The old monitor is the Dell CRT dinosaur that came with it.

A:Solved: where do I find a driver for a Princeton monitor?

You shouldn't need any drivers for a monitor / LCD. Some manufacturers used provide a .inf file with theirs (don't think this still happens much though, if at all) and as far as I know all that really did was allow the PC to correctly identify it by make/model.

i have done a format on my computer, as I have many times before, only this time, while I try to install my monitor driver from the cd I have for it, i have the following problem,
this is the instructions i need to follow.

1. Click Start -> Setting -> Control Panel
2. Double -click the Display icon.
3. Click the Setting tab, then click Advanced...
4. Select Monitor tab, Click properties->
click Driver Tab -> Click Update Driver Tab
5. Hardware Update Wizard -> Select Install From A List or Specific Location[Advanced]
-> Click Next
6. Select Include this Location in the search -> Click Browse
-> Select the Driver in the CD ROM -> Click Next
7. The Monitor Files are copied to the Hard Drive
8. Click Finish -> Close

I get to number 4, I select Monitor tab, but I cant select properties, the tab is there, but it is a faint colour, and cant be clicked..

my monitor is a LG L1710M and im trying to install it on xp pro.

A:Solved: trouble installing monitor driver

Right click "my computer" and click properties.
Click the hardware tab and click properties.
Click device manager.
Expand monitors.
Right click your monitor and click update driver.
If that is not working, you may not have installed your
video card driver yet.
