X380 vs. L380?

Q: X380 vs. L380?

I am looking at the X380 vs. L380 and there are some interesting trade-offs. In some cases the L380 has better options (RAM) and in other cases the X380 has better options (Thunderbolt 3). Also there are some really strange choices like the IR / Hello camera, it is available on only ONE model of X380 and then is only available on L380 without world facing camera. I am curious what others are thinking on the X380 vs. L380. It seems the L380 is cheaper but not sure how much yet. This is all according to PSREF as of 3/5/2018. Preferred Solution: X380 vs. L380?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,Recently, one of my friends bought a ThinkPad L380 laptop. I would say the internal speaker has improved. The bass goes deeper and treble is more extended compared to the older model
To tweak the sound:1. Right-click the photo below, save as Desktop. You may try both to see which EQ you prefer.

2. Go to Start > All Apps (All Programs) > Dolby > Dolby Audio.

3. Drag it onto the Dolby Atmos application.Do take note that if you were to connect your external speaker/headphone to the headphone jack, change the EQ to others, or off. As this EQ preset is only optimized for L380, L380 Yoga, S2 and S2 Yoga Speakers, not optimized for your external speaker/headphone.Hope you enjoy this tweaks!

My L380 is not turning on. When I try to turn it on, the ESC, F1, F2, and F4 lights flicker for a second and then they turn off again. And repeat. Previously, the computer was stuck on a boot loop. It kept restarting over the Lenovo start screen, but it's not doing that anymore. I think the problem might be related to the charging threshold management. The problem went away for a while and I noticed the battery had dropped below the 90% threshold. Did anyone else experience this problem? I was running all the latest software, the last time the computer started I ran a full diagnostics and it returned no problems.

Hello, Both my daughter and I have a X380, and both machines have the same hardware configuration and both with a single 256GB SSD. If her machine crashes, can I just take the SSD from her X380 and swap out mine so that she can have a machine to use?Is it the SSD user swappable? She uses the machine for school work and I do not want to reload everything. I can take time to repair her machine.

Hey all. I'm sorry if this is a duplicate post for this forum. Is there a way to keep the keyboard backlight on the L380Y from turning off on its own? I have to turn it back on after a period of inactivity, and I would rather just leave it on (at the very least while plugged in to power). Is there a way to do this? Thanks!Michael

Hi there, I have an L380 Yoga with 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD. I was wondering if I could upgrade only the RAM to 32 GB by plugging in a RAM card to the other available RAM slot. Would I also need to upgrade the SSD? One more thing, if I am going to upgrade the RAM, does it need to be of the same brand? Would it make a difference, if I use a different brand? Thanks in advance.

I bought this Thinkpad L380 not too long ago. Since this is my first laptop I wanted to know more about the battery, how to charge it, what are the best practices, how to keep it in good condition. I read some reviews before buying it and some of them showed what is inside the chassis including the battery, which was a li-ion one. The pictures agreed with the product specification reference which also states that this model comes with a li-ion battery. After installing the lenovo vantage software things got a bit confusing because it reports that the device chemistry is li-polymer. I then generated a battery report with powercfg which also shows that the battery chemistry is LiP. I believe it should be a li-ion but It would be great if someone could confirm this. Suggestions on optimal charge levels while using the machine with the charger or links to recommended articles on this topic are also welcome!

Hi, for some time now, my Thinkpad L380 feels very slow sometimes. I found out it's when it's loading (via USB-C). When the battery is at 100%, or when it is in battery mode, the CPU reaches its full 2~4 GHz. But when loading, it's very very slooow, around 0.4 ... 0.6 GHz.  How to stop that? I cannot use the normal Power Adaptor on my desktop, because I have a Display which needs DisplayPort, so I have to use the ThinkPad USB-C Docking. But it's slow even if I connect the USB-C dock and the original power adaptor at the same time.  It's when I connect it via the ThinkPad USB-C Docking, or via a Dell USB-C-Monitor, or via a 65 W Apple adaptor. (All three sources are able to support a Dell XPS15 with full speed while loading.)

Hello, I bought a 1Tb Crucial P1 ssd for my L380, and to my huge surprise I couldn't fit it in the laptop's M2 slot. It seems that the drive is too long. Compared to the stock Samsung PM961 drive, the Crucial seems to have a half millimeter plastic "border" at the top, where the pins are. I tried forcing it in as much as I was comfortable doing, but the drive wouldn't be detected in the UEFI and wasn't available to the operating system.  I tried another ssd that I have in a different laptop, a Toshiba branded oem ssd, and this one too was too "long" albeit less than the Crucial. This one barely fit and was detected by the uefi every two or three restarts. Now all these SSDs fit perfectly in other laptops, they are detected and work flawlessly. It seems that the L380's nvme slot is half a millimeter too close to the edge of the laptop.  Has anybody experienced anything like this? What should I do? Should I send it in for repair? The machine is still in warranty of course.

I have a Yoga X380 (LJ model) which I'm trying to get to display 4k ([email protected]) on my Iiyama GB2888UHSU monitor via HDMI (if possible).  I read the specifications of the laptop and I know that via the built-in HDMI it can't do 60hz, but manages only 30hz.  I know I have to use the Thunderbolt/USB-C port and indeed I can, and have, but only at 30hz.   I know the monitor only has a single HDMI port (Port 1) which can do this refresh rate, that's what I'm using. I have tried a couple of dongles (but not the Lenovo one, coming on to that!) and verified my HDMI cable and dongle by using a PC and my Galaxy S9 - both happily display [email protected] no problem at all via the same monitor port, cable & dongle that won't do 60hz via the Yoga) .   Regardless of what I do I can't get the Yoga to do it.  The mode is available but when I select it I get "no signal" and then the display reverts back to @30hz when it times out and the setting isn't confirmed. I know the Thunderbolt port can do this, way more than this actually.  Indeed there is a listed compatible Lenovo USB-C to HDMI dongle (Part 4X90R61022 - https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/PD500273).  The specification claims this supports the required 3840*[email protected]  Why have I not purchased this yet you ask?  Well, I got the laptop with a USB-C charger (work device) so I don't have another USB-C port to use (until I buy a dock ... Hi Lenovo Community, I'm facing pretty strange CPU Performance problems on the X380 Yoga with i7-8550U CPU. The CPU performance becomes very bad after some operating time. I understand the X380 has a limited cooling capacity, but this behaviour is pretty strange. Environment: X380 Yoga, i7-8550U, 16GB Memory, 512GB SSD, Windows 10 1703 Enterprise, SCCM Driver Package used for image building and installation. Bios Version 1.14 installed (most recent one). Drivers are all checked, and are the most recent version. Speed Step Settings in Bios are on Max Performance, on OS also on Max performance. Running Standard Office applications, like Outlook, Skype, Firefox and some management tools. After system boot everything is performing fine for about 1 hour. (I wasn't able to  record the exact time so far). After this, the system starts to get really slow, and shows a bad response time. As soon as some CPU load is applied, the CPU clock in Task Manager goes down, also the CPU load is not able to reach 100%. The CPU Temperature does not go over about 60° at this point. Directly after the system start it goes up to about 85°C. I monitored the CPU with HWMonitor, and put some stress to the Laptop using Prime 95. After some minutes Torture Test I see following values in HWMonitor (see attachment Prime 1.jpg) After about 1 hour run time, I see following: (see attachment Prime 2.jpg) So, the CPU Clock is far down, all temperatures are not really high, no... Hello lenovo community, this is my first post so if this is not in the right area or anything feel free to remind me. I wanted to share a bug/feature i just discovered with the lenovo yoga x380. The laptop itself just started too soon to power up the fans which brought me to conclusion that the laptop is overheating very fast.. Wrong! I found out that when plugged in, the CPU Clockspeeds drop to 200-300 MHz rightaway (in Balanced Windows Power Settings). As soon as you open an application however, the clockspeeds instantly go into the 3 GHz for about 1-2 seconds, before dropping to 200 MHz again. --> This causes the temps to go up very fast for a short period of time which causes the fan to go ON for about 10-20 seconds before turning off again. However if you watch the clockspeeds at battery powered they are at 800 MHz lowest! They never drop to 200-300 Mhz (maybe for 0.1 seconds then it goes up again).  By changing the lowest possible CPU Clock from 5% to 10% and back to 5% the problem dissapeared for me and now my fan wont spin up every 30 seconds and the laptop is completely quiet. I did all this on the balanced power profile, if i go to the performance power profile in windows im at 200 MHz in Idle again... So  is this intentional? Or is this a bug?   Clockspeeds on Battery (Idle)Clockspeeds on Power (Idle)

Hi all, Got a bit of a strange one. I have one user with an X380 Yoga - since day 1 from brand new the stylus has been very intermittent (more off than on) and now it simply does not register on the users screen at all. Touch screen works as expected. I brought over another X380's stylus and it worked fine on the laptop screen. I then brought the "broken" stylus back, and it worked as expected on another X380. So to summarise, I can confirm both Styluses work, both screens work, but one stylus doesn't work on one screen, and one works on both. I'm confused!

Hi,I recently ordered a Thinkpad X380 Yoga. I was wondering whether it is possible to use an SSD with msata form factor in the WWAN card slot. Thanks in advance.

A:X380 yoga msata SSD?

Hello and welcome,

I can't find any reference on the web or in the X380 base spec that indicates this is possible.  My guess is NO, but can't really verify one way or the other.

I can say that mSATA should not be part of the conversation.  The WWAN slot is m.2 NOT mSATA.  mSATA has not been used in Lenovo products for several generations.

I've come across a pretty weird problem. When I used my pen last it worked fine, but now it's having trouble when I try to click. Hovering works fine, but any time I try to click on anything on the desktop or within an app, it won't do anything. When I try to click in a browser, it usually does nothing, except for Microsoft Edge, which crashes completely, and Chrome, which works perfectly with the pen. I spent a few hours in pen settings and looking online for help but wasn't able to do much to fix the problem. In pen settings, it says that I haven't used my pen at all since September (although I've used it within the past few weeks with no problems). Any tips/ideas?

Hello guys! Today my new Thinkpad Yoga x380 arrived. I used it for a while and noticed that the battery wont charge with the standard poweradapter. At first I thought it was because of the threshold-charging-settings (where it is supposed to not charge the battery until it drops below a certain percent-value of charge). But ive already tried charging it via usb-c, and doing so works fine. Edit: In addition, the charging-adapter isnt even recognized by the system. It simply does nothing. Except for the USB-C charging. (Charger works fine, i measured it with a voltmeter) Am i supposed to send it in, and make use of my warranty? Kind regards Martin

We're trying to deploy a Lenovo L380 Yoga (docking connected over USB) with SCCM/MDT.The reason for the docking is because this laptop doesn't have an onboard NIC. The driver package has been loaded into SCCM and we're able to launch LiteTouch.https://support.lenovo.com/us/nl/downloads/ds502364But once LiteTouch is launched, the lights on the NIC go out and we get the message:"A connection to the deployment share could not be made. Check Physical connection".We're sure that the physical connection to the server is okay because we're able to download the LiteTouch file from it, also we see a DHCP entry for the laptop. I'm not sure if this is a USB driver issue, as unplugging the docking from the USB and reconnecting it makes the NIC lights turn on for a brief period of time. Other USB devices seem to work just fine E.G: mouse, keyboard, ... Is there a special driver for the USB docking to work in LiteTouch?

Hi everyone. Just want to introduce myself as I'm now a happy owner of a new Lenovo L380 Yoga ThinkPad laptop. Got it from Best Buy for $899.99 last week. I'm upgrading from an old Sony Vaio Windows laptop from several years ago, that thing was sooooo slow to boot up/shut down and perform simple Photoshop commands. It would take more than a few minutes to simply boot up Windows, I would go to the kitchen to brew a pot of coffee, then come back to the Sony laptop to finally start up Windows. It was practically unusable. My new L380 with its 256GB SSD drive boots up Windows in only 10 to 15 seconds and shuts down even faster. I'm simply blown away! Truly amazed! Plus it's my first laptop with a 2 in 1 design touchscreen with stylus pen writing...so cool! I was also checking out some Lenovo Yoga 2 in 1 laptops (930 model?) and was impressed with its thinness and screen brilliance. But I didn't like the minimal connection ports on the sides of the laptops. Nor did I like the very reflective screen. Also didn't care for the keyboard and lack of right/left click buttons on these other Yoga models.  Some questions please: 1) I'm wondering if it's worthwhile for me to upgrade the built-in 8GB of RAM? So far it's been very quick for my basic needs. But I'm considering doing more intensive Photoshop commands such as batch processing hundreds or thousands or Nikon digital RAW files in the future. Will 8 GB of RAM be sufficient for this task? 2) I calle... Read more
