I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.
On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.
When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.
Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.
In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.
It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.
Has anyone come across this issue?

A:Server 2012 R2 - Internet Explorer Proxy Server Issue

Hi Dicki,
First, please try to reset the Internet Explorer. Some plug-ins may affect the proxy.
If it doesn't work, please try to perform a network capture on the client.
Please check if the client send the http traffic to the proxy server at the correct port.
If the client has sent the http traffic to the proxy server, please check if there is any warning or error in the proxy server.

A:Can I get Internet Explorer 11 for Windows Server 2012 ?

As I known, Internet Explorer 11 is preinstalled with Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2. No additional action is required.
If you plan to run IE 11 on Windows server 2012, it won?t be supported. Internet Explorer 11 is not available for download for on Windows Server 2012.

My Server, running 2012 R2 Standard, has to use Internet Explorer (Version 11 installed), to perform various browsing tasks on a regular basis.
Both automated and manual browsing between URL's randomly stops working and displays nothing but a white page. The only way to fix it is to quit IE and reopen, which slows the process down massively.
I have all addons disabled. I have tried resetting everything back to default. I have also disabled GPU rendering.
Any suggestions on what is going on? For reference, the exact same automation took place on Server 2008 R2 previously with no issues - I don't understand what could be the problem here but assume it is something Server 2012 related.

We have an important LOB application (QuickBooks 2018) that requires that requires Internet Explorer 11 for QB to operate correctly.  Unfortunately our server runs Windows Server 2012 Essentials as an operating system (not R2).  From reviewing
various Microsoft documents, I realize that IE 11 is not supported on Server 2012.  However, we need to be able to run QuickBooks, which requires that version of IE.  Upgrading the server OS to 2012 R2 would take hours, because there is no in-place
upgrade option.  We would have to reinstall and configure the OS again from scratch.
Is there anything we can do to resolve this problem?
Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Hi everyone,
Here is my issue, my computer is functioning ok except for internet explorer. I am able to google and search things but when I try to enter a number of different sites (such as the malwarebytes download page) I receive a message that says "the proxy server isn't responding." "Check your proxy settings" When I go into internet options --> Connections----> Lan Settings, the "user proxy server for your lan" is checked and greyed out. I have run malwarebytes which did not fix the issue. Someone mentioned checking a proxy setting in regedit which was set to 1, when I change it to 0 as I was recommended, It did not fix the issue and simply reverted to 1. Im not sure if that is relevant at all but this issue is quite frustrating and any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I have a strange issue. My computer was running fine. Then I took it to the main lobby and hooked up the internet through hard wire. It worked fine as I connected to the interent. When I went back into my office and connected to the internet I got page cannot be displayed. I cleaned out all the temporary internet stuff with ccleaner and did the clean registry, still nothing. A friend gave me hijackthis and I ran it and came up with some strange settings in proxy. So I went into interent options to try and change them, but they don't go away. I do apply, ok, and exit IE but they come right back. I used hijackthis to remove them and it worked. Unfortunately I had to do another presentation in the main lobby, same thing happened. I looked through the first steps and ran them all and can't find anything. I am running XP SP3 and have avg8 free running. I don't do any web surfing or downloading of software. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)

I'm apologizing now if I have this posted in the wrong place or haven't dug deep enough into the forums for an answer. Also I see that I have some extra stuff in the report because I tried to do the Windows Update but couldn't and forgot to run the clean up again. My problem is that every time I connect to the internet, through any program, I have these settings again. The proxy is enabled to use with the port 5400. I have deleted them and unchecked the boxes and clicked OK but they always come back. They are in my registry too, only when I connect though. I'm afraid to do much in the registry without advice. This all started after I did a reinstall of Internet Explorer and was looking at the Internet Options>Connections>Settings>Proxy>Advanced just to see what was in there, which was nothing. I had to check the box for "Use a proxy..." to look and when I closed out a pop up screen asked me if I was sure I didn't want a proxy and I clicked yes. So fine, I unchecked "Use a proxy..." but then wanted to look at it again. I did all the same but this time a proxy suddenly appeared out of nowhere. I noticed that my web pages were coming up faster and so left it there but then began to get spam email from Canada the next morning and got worried about it. I can't get rid of it now. I can uncheck it everytime I connect but what a pain and is it really gone? What is it up to?I did all the prep work recommended by BC, which took several hours an... Read more

A:Trouble With Proxy Server And Port Settings In Internet Tools

Hi Everyone, I found out what was making my proxy and port default every time, finally. It was my new Web Accelerator from my ISP. That is how they are enabling a faster service. But in the meantime, since I followed your preparation instructions I was able to find the other stuff that most likely caused the not so nice spam emails. I had also installed a "new" program around the same time. In the Print Shop ProPublisher 2000 ver. 10 the BitDefender scan found a Backdoor. Ralpha.A and a Brodcast Dssagent. So I had (1) Trojan.Dloader.BUP, (2) Backdoor.Ralpha.A, (1) Generic.Adw.SaveNow.56AD4696 (leftover from a downloaded screensaver, I think), (1) Brodcast DSSAGENT and (2) Trojan.Dloader.AMA's altogether. The AMA's were sticky. The BitDefender could not get them out. After a few tries, I then downloaded the CounterSpy program (4 to 5 hours on dial-up ) and was able to remove them. A tip: Run your scans again until you get a clean scan. Don't assume that all was found and deleted on the first try. So I'm hoping that all is clean as a whistle ! I hope someone can give my new Hijack This report a look and see if it is OK. Keep in mind that after doing all that scanning and coming back clean I then uninstalled the bad Print Shop ProPublisher and did some other stuff before doing the report. I did the disk clean up and Eusing Registry Cleaner to try and make a clean report. Hope it is OK. I'm wondering if the two that I've marked in red can go? Thanks for your at... Read more

A:Internet Explorer Settings

As a whole, IE is a fairly secure environment. If wanted you can go into the security tab and set your internet setting to High instead of medium. The best thing to do is to ensure you have all your windows updates completed and ensure you have some type of Antivirus/Antispyware scanners to find anything that may be lurking on your computer already. Below is a list of my most used Antispyware programs. YOu can only have one Antivirus but you can have as many antispyware programs as your heart desires and you can never have to many.

Microsoft Anti-Spyware (for Win2000/WinXP only)

I can't seem to modify the security settings for IE. Specifically I am trying to log in to my Yahoo e-mail account and I get a message saying "The browser you're using refuses to sign in (cookies rejected)". The privacy report says that, indeed, several versions of the yahoo web-site have cookies blocked even though right clicking on the sites clearly shows that "Always Accept cookies from this site" is selected. I can see nothing wrong with the cookie settings and have cleared caches, temp files etc as suggested by many other solutions out there. Internet search suggests that there should be a P3P entry in the registry but I can't see it anywhere. Where would these records be? I've run Ad-Aware and SpyBot with no improvement.

The PC is running Ranger, a schools based OS but I've removed it with no difference.

XP Windows Pro SP2, IE 6.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

I don't know the answer to your specific problem but I'd be very wary of adding Games Sites to your Trusted Zone - that's really leaving yourself open to attack from any malware running around on those sites (and there will be plenty). If you could help me out in finding the file that stores the NIC settings I would be very greatful.

I am having problems with playing YOU TUBE videos. In my programs list under
the START menu there are 2 Internet Explorer programs ie Internet Explorer &
Internet Explorer (X64) . If I highlight the (x64) version and disable the POP UP
BLOCKER via the TOOLS button I can play a YOU TUBE video but only in the
one browsing session ie. as soon as I go back to open another session using
GOOGLE search YOU TUBE won't play.
Also I notice that I am getting a lot of frozen screens when browsing
ARE these problems related? I was thinking of RESETTING INTERNET EXPLORER
but this sounds a bit dangerous.

Ice, welcome to Sevenforums!

Reseting it is a good idea. It will ask if you want to keep personal settings. After, go to get.adobe.com/flashplayer and download flashplayer to your desktop. Uninstall adobe flashplayer from contol panel in favor of installing this newer version. Check add-ons in internet explorer and make sure all the ones you want are there and none other. Having IEx64 and normal IE is standard on a x64 system, which you have. They are 2 versions of the same browser, but have about the same speed (for IE9). I'd use the normal one due to compatability reasons. Hope this helps

I have Windows 7, search the internet with Chrome, seems my computer may be infected.  When I click chrome, sometimes it gives me my home page, sometimes it goes straight to the message "unable to connect to the proxy server", when it doesn't go directly to my home page correctly, it also states this exact message with an upside down face.  I did some research online and the Chrome message that people were posting up were a bit different from the one I am seeing.
When I attempt to troubleshoot by going to the Chrome settings and going down to "Change Proxy settings" it prompts "access to this feature has been disabled by a restriction set by your system administrator", even though I am using the system administrator user, which is the only user on the system.  I've tried going in through the cmd line as well, pinged, netstat, tracert would give me results but weren't consistent.  I did a system restore as well, I had Sopho's anti-virus but it was out-of-date, for this was my work computer back in September but think the lease for it ended, so I installed AVG for now just today, most likely the reasoning for the computer being infected and causing this problem.  I have also started the pc in safe-mode, same results, is this a group policy issue?  I am unfamiliar with group policy and couldn't find it within my computer.  I do have the home premium version of 7 for what it's worth.
Please, please help, anyone!  I reall... Read more

Hello, I've done some searches in the forums and tried a few fixes posted for similar issues but had no luck. BackgroundI am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I recently installed some free software which of course came with some adware, changed my browser settings (home page, default search engines.) After some work I was able to remove them, but now have encountered a new problem which I expect is also malware related. ProblemWhen I direct my browsers to any website I get a message saying that there is no response from the proxy server. I have never used a proxy server for internet access and when I go into my Internet Properties>LAN Settings and un-check "Use a proxy Server for your LAN" and check "Automatically detect settings" the settings are not remembered and revert as soon as I close and re-open "LAN Settings" rendering my browsers useless. Things I've TriedScans withMalwarebytes antimalwareMicrosoft security essentialsSpybot Search and DestroyCCleaner (cleaner and registry)Using regedit to manually delete suspicious registry keysThe FRST fixlist hereThe OTL fix hereAny help you can offer if appreciated. I am accessing the internet via a netbook and have been installing scanners to the infected PC via flash drive.

Hi Guys,

I resetted my IE 6 settings to their factory defaults for my Windows XP. Are there any settings that you think I should uncheck? What does the Enable Install on Demand do? Also, where are the Enable Active X Controls, that were a part of previous versions of Windows in IE? I do NOT WANT WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 2 on my system. What would you suggest? I am going to uncheck the Automatic Check for IE updates.

I went on a vacation recently and came back to discover that my housesitter messed my computer up. I kept getting the warnings about my computer being infected with several viruses (malicious adware software), I can't remember exactly which one it was. I got rid of it, but then I could not get on the internet. I finally discovered a post about unchecking "Use a proxy server for your LAN", so I unchecked it and was able to access the internet. However, whenever I try to google anything, it takes me to different "search" websites instead of linking me directly to the site I want. Or, it will send me to a website that's trying to sell me something and I have to completely close IE down. This is getting really old, and I don't know how to fix it. If I recheck the proxy server box, I cannot get on the internet again. If anyone knows how to fix this, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

I'm a newbie to Windows 7 Home Premium & think maybe I've messed up IE9. It seemed to me to be slow & some sites left me with hundreds of items in Temp.IE Files while others, this one in particular, just left 1, so in trying to get less from somewhere else I messed around with IE settings & now don't even remember what I did. So actually I guess my main question is: what is Microsoft Fixit? I've seen reference to it several times but have never used it. I have a very wide 'yellow streak' down my back & don't know which way to go.

Thank you.
oops, forgot to mention that the reason I came here to post was that I'd been in the Tutorials doing some reading when I was interrupted by a phone call & when I came back to continue, it took what seems like forever to 'wake up' my screen. Then when I came back here to edit, it again took too long to open my post. I'm sorry, my wording may be wrong, hope this makes sense.

Regarding IE9 setting changes:

IE has a lot of "Restore Default" options in the settings.
Try going back through the IE Options and setting everything back to "default".Internet Explorer - Reset
If your OS came with IE8, you should also be able to uninstall/re-install IE9...Internet Explorer 9 - Uninstall

Recently, we ran a pilot where FIPS-compliance mode was enabled on Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 32-bit computers.  Specifically, the "System cryptography: Use FIPS-compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, and signing" security option was
set to Enabled.  The pilot is over and we turned off FIPS-compliance mode.
Since doing that, I have noticed that the SSL/TLS settings in Internet Explorer 9 are disabled on computers that were part of the pilot.  I know the defaults are:

SSL 2.0 : offSSL 3.0 : onTLS 1.0 : onTLS 1.1 : offTLS 1.2 : off
Now, all of these settings are disabled (grayed out) and the following settings are set:

SSL 2.0 : onSSL 3.0 : onTLS 1.0 : onTLS 1.1 : offTLS 1.2 : off

This affects all user accounts on the system.
The test GPO we used to turn on FIPS mode for these computers has been verified to only be enforcing that FIPS setting.  It was not controlling any Internet Explorer settings.
Here is the troubleshooting I have done so far:

Reset Internet Explorer via the Reset button on the Advanced tab in Internet Options.Put computer in an OU that had Group Policy inheritance blocked, performed gpupdate, and rebooted to ensure no GPOs were affecting the computer.
Verified that local policy was not enforcing the Internet Explorer SSL/TLS settings.Ran msconfig, disabled non-Microsoft services, and rebooted.Removed the Internet Explorer feature, rebooted, re-added it, and rebooted.Installed all available important and r... Read more

If anyone else runs into this, I resolved my issue by modifying the SecureProtocols
value in the registry (since I avoid Group Policy at all costs) at
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings.
The data to set the registry value to can be found at the link below (just Ctrl+F SecureProtocols).

I've used several guides for tweaking Internet Explorer for security settings. I want to be as meticulous and tight with security as possible without having to compromise for easy surfing, particularly not having to answer a prompt for every page I visit.

I've tried to do the online spyware scans for TrendMicro, Symantec and several of the other ones every now and then and they either don't load at all or tell me I'm not running ActiveX or scripting, which I am. What settings could be making it difficult for me to use these?

Also are there any good guides for tweaking IE for tight security without compromising surfing smoothness and which have very detailed descriptions of the changes you could make? I've read this guide but it's not very detailed.

Hi and welcome to TSG,
I do all my online activity with an additional level of security called a "sandbox" using a product from 'Sandboxie'

It's free of ads etc, and I've not noticed any difference in speed when on the internet.

I'm not an expert on the tech reasons, but I understand that using 'Firefox' or 'Opera' as your browser is more secure. Perhaps others will explain why/how ...

I hope this is of help?
