Audio Echo during video/audio calls (Skype, Facebook, etc.)

Q: Audio Echo during video/audio calls (Skype, Facebook, etc.)

During audio calls, the person I am speaking with says that they can hear all audio created by my computer. This includes their own voice, audio from videos I might play, any movie we're watching, etc. Typically, I can hear their computer's audio as well. This happens when using Skype, Facebook Messenger, etc.

What could be causing this, and how can I fix it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Trying to help my brother out here. The title says it all but here are the details.

During a Skpe Video call, with myself and others, his video will freeze, then the Skype video will close and restart. This will occur periodically (and frequently). When it happens HIS SKYPE AUDIO IS UNINTERRUPTED.

Now this was happening when he was running Vista. Rather than beat my brains out I upgraded him to Windows 7, which I was going to do anyway. Alas, the problem remains!

His setup (incomplete but I can get the rest...)

Windows 7 x64
HP Pavilion m9250f Quad
Logitech Video Camera (C210?)
Hauppauge Tuner
Onboard Realtek Audio

Not sure what to look for on this one to narrow the field of possibilities down. I suspect a conflict in resources (interrupts, etc) but it could be something else.

It is almost as if something is waking on schedule... "It's ALIVE!"

He has tried an uninstall of the Logitech webcam and Skype and a "clean" re-install per Logitech's guidelines. No luck.

Searched the internet. Lots of problems with Skype, et al, causing BSODs and/or system shutdowns, etc but could not find one where it was JUST the Skype video restarting while the audio remained connected and uninterrupted. But I might have missed something.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi all,

I been using Skype for a long time now, but have only recently started using the video call feature. I find it quite useful. The problem is that the video freezes after a minute or two when I make video calls. I then have to restart to unfreeze it. I can be a hassle. The video freezes on both sides of the video call. One minute my video would freeze then the other side freezes as well. The audio is fine. There is nothing wrong with my webcam.

I have a Microsoft Lifecam VX 1000. Windows XP Professional. Service Pack 3.
I have version of Skype

How can I make video calls that don't freeze?

Thanks in advance.

A:Frozen Video Calls in Skype

My experience has been that if I have too many extra's turned on the camera, it might freeze. I have a Logitech cam, and it has a feature called Low-light boost that sometimes has given me problems. (also accessed through Skype at Tools>Options>Video Settings. Then click on the button that says Webcam settings>Advanced Tab).

Other possibilities:
*Double check your camera driver for the latest version.
*Bad internet connection (double check firewalls, anti-virus etc.)
*Make sure you have the latest version of DirectX
*Make sure the camera application software is running at the same time as Skype.

Good luck, hope this helps.

But then I can't use my mic on my headset.

I'm surprised I haven't found a post on a problem like mines, but here goes...
I have video and audio being carried over hdmi to my tv. I had been using the dvi and audio out connections, but decided to give this configuration a try for a while. It's got it's good points, and some bad, but my main issue is that certain actions will cause the audio to have a very pronounced (and very annoying) echo. I can't think of any one thing that triggers this behavior consistently, but it happens often when switching video (wmp, vlc, even flash) to full screen. I can run down the long list of things I've done to resolve the problem (switching audio devices, disabling/re-enabling, etc), but the bottom line is that any of my results have been inconsistent too. For instance, switching to the realtek audio device and back to the hdmi audio stopped the echo once, but the same procedure produced no results 30mins later.
By the way, I'm running win7 64bit, on a Lenovo D10 motherboard, dual xeon 5460's, 8GB ram, and the hdmi connection is through a MSI gtx 580 lightening.

update: I was able to get rid of the echo this last time by muting the hdmi audio and then un-muting. This is after not resolving it by disabling/re-enabling hdmi audio. One other observation that might be a clue is that I get a momentary black screen (about 0.5sec or less) when muting/un-muting audio (and sometimes when switching between window/fullscreen) since I've been using the hdmi connection. I know I could save mysel... Read more

A:HDMI audio echo

HDMI audio is separate from the regular PC audio. HDMI audio is generated by a chip on the Video card. Thus my first suggestion would be to update the video card driver. If you have the latest version then reinstall it.

There could be some other issues, but try the video drivers first.

My friend has a Gateway with a pentium 4 using OS WinXP, she home schools her kids and has Switch on School house. Just recently they noticed that when they play their audio files, there is an echo. I went today and listened to it, and it does sound like when shout into a canyon, you keep hearing yourself. Something else was happening with it too, one of the cds wasn't playing a video, but other videos were playing. I brought the whole set up home, installed the whole thing (200mb) on my computer and it worked perfect, video files played and I had no echo in the spelling bee part. Then I called my friend back to let her know this and she said that her girls also said that audio files from the internet had an echo. Is it the speakers? And if it is the speakers? How can we fix this? And how can I tell what it is?

A:Audio Echo Problem

Welcome to TSG!
There are a few items you may want to try.

First- Go to the Control Panel Sounds and Multimedia and check your settings there. Experiment to see if any have an effect on your problem.

Second- Try a system restore to a date prior to this event.

Third- See if new drivers are available for your sound card at the manufacturers website.

Note: Others may have thoughts on this to so be patient.

I have for the last week noticed I have an obvious echo on all media playback, wether it a recently bought DVD, Mpeg or Avi File, Windows alert sounds, Mp3 (allough not as noticable as the others).

Its quite irritating and means watching any DVD's is almost impossible, its also distorting mp3 playback.

Does anyone know what could suddenly start causing this? Or how I could remedy the situation?

The only program I can recolect installing recently is a Tom Clancy Game, infact i am quite suspicious of this game, as its where I first noticed the echo. Could this be anything to do with EAX? I would presume not as I have taken off EAX in the game options to no avail.

Any help Greatly appreciated,

Hmm, what kind of sound card do you have in your system? Are you using any special EQ progs or tools? If so, you may want to check the settings on those to see it took over your sound and is putting reverb on everything coming out.

Hi, I joined to ask about a problem with my new Inspiron 3521. I noticed that audio playback through my headphones has a defined echo. I've done some research, but nothing I've found has had any effects. I've tried both silver and gold headphone connections, my microphone is off, and all realtek enhancements are disabled. I've noted that in Winamp, when messing with the balance, turning it entirely to the left or right, the opposing side's audio will still play, though the echo is not present. That leads me to think it's a software issue, but I can't find any pertinant options. If anyone has any ideas, I would much appreciate some feedback. Thanks!
EDIT: Eureka! I feel dumb. So, I glanced at my status tray thingy, and noticed a speaker icon for "Dell Audio". Opened it up, disabled everything, and the echo stopped. Seems like my audio was getting double processed. Nevermind.

Hi all

I am new to the forum so thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope you can help.
I am running Windows XP SP2 on a HP Pavilion zd8123ea laptop, with a P3.0 Ghz processor, 1.25GB RAM, my sound card is an Echo Indigo PCMCIA.

I have an audio problem - I cannot hear audio from web-sites such as MySpace, YouTube and Facebook. When I click on Sounds and Audio Devices in Control Panel, the chosen device is shown as Indigo io 3-4 Virtual Out. No matter what changes I make (even if I try to change to the default sound card - Conexant AMC Audio), when I click on Apply and then OK, and then open the Sounds and Audio Devices in Control Panel again, the settings have not been updated and the chosen device is still being shown as Indigo io 3-4 Virtual Out. It is more puzzling because audio applications such as iTunes are working fine and I can hear audio from my speakers, however audio from the internet, such as MySpace, or YouTube, does not play.

I rebuilt my Windows XP laptop around 4 months ago, and everything has been running fine until around 2-3 weeks ago. I am using Norton 360 also.

I'd really appreciate any help, I am also in touch with Echo technical support but haven't managed to solve the problem so far - and the last thing I want to do is to have to rebuild my laptop again!

A:Audio problems - is it an XP bug or Echo Indigo?

Hi, I have now uninstalled my Echo Indigo so I am now running on the standard Conexant AMC Audio driver on my internal sound card. The same problems are still occurring though - I cannot hear any audio streamed from webpages (i.e. YouTube), but I can hear audio from applications such as iTunes, through my internal speakers as I would expect.

Is there a way to check settings in web browsers for audio, I have searched and can find nothing, I am using Firefox 90% of the time, and sometimes Internet Explorer 7.

Also, the audio controls on my laptop hardware (volume up/down/mute) are not functioning... could this be hardware related?

I am confused and frustrated, any help would be much appreciated!

Hi, About 1,5 month ago I purchased a packard Bell MC2270 with realtek soundcard + and Advent 2 speaker -1 subwoofer set up. From the start I'm having problems with the audio/microphone. When doing the hardware test in Windows Voice recorder (set up) the testing of the microphone works ok (although I have to keep it fairly close to my mouth) but then the second test which is the playback test goes terribly wrong. I say "test" one time, and suddenly I hear myself saying test trough the speaker again and again, and the sound becoming louder and louder. It then automatically drops down the mic volume all the way to zero (as the echoing keeps on going). I know that one of the reasons might be that my microphone is too close to the speakers. However I tried the same test with a headset with microphone (and the regular speakers turned off) and it does the same then. I downloaded the latest realtek drivers and I tried to play around with the Volume equalizer of both Windows and the realtek audio manager, but no success.
Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi there, I've noticed that out of the blue, when I play any sound through the Dell speakers on my system, the vocals and some of the music sounds like it's echoing or very distant. I've played the same music through a pair of USB headphones and it sounds fine so I can only deduce that it's a problem with either the speakers or the sounds card/driver. I have turned off all presets/effects and the issue is still there. I hope someone might have some clues as to why this is happening. The driver is the latest available from Dell. Cheers, Pete

I have a audio jack cable i.e.

and I want to listen to music on phone through computer speakers. It works, but.....

In the sound control panel settings>recording tab>line in properties>Listen tab, there is a tick box 'Listen to this device'.

When I tick it, I get a "good" sound, however their is a slight noticeable echo.

When I leave it un-ticked, I still get sound but it is not as good, however it has no echo.

I am assuming, when it is unticked, the sound is playing through the inner speaker that is connected to the motherboard (that plays beeps on error at pc boot). When I leave it ticked, the sound is playing through that inner speaker but also through the computer external speakers, however one is playing the sound "faster" than the other and that it why there is an echo (one is playing at a small time interval behind the other). Would I be right in saying this?

My question is, if this is true, is there a way to disable that motherboard speaker without opening up the pc and disconnecting it? I want to do this so that I can get what seems to be better sound from the external speakers only.

From checking up, you could do something in windows 7, go to device manager, view hidden devices and a device group 'Non plug and play devices' would appear

However, apparently this hidden option has been disabled in windows 8, see third bullet point in following link

Hey guys,
I got this problem w/my audio. When I start Skype or iTunes, it gives me a message about no input and/or output. But I have Cakewalk Music Creator 2 and w/that I can talk into my mic and it comes out the speakers. The device manager claims my audio thing is working correctly, but it is not working in Skype or iTunes. Also, it did not make any sounds in Pinball.

I have an Asus A7V8X-MX motherboard, 512MB of Corsair ValueSelect DDR333 RAM, AMD Sempron 3000+ Socket 462 Barton. The VIA chipset on this mobo also powers the graphics and, I think, it functions as the audio controller using Realtek AC'97 codec.

EDIT: I restarted my computer since that, and at first there was sound in the task manager, like when you go to end a process, it is supposed to give a warning sound, it did at first, but now it doesn't even do that. not in any other program either, except Cakewalk Music Creator 2 input and output works. when I tried the Skype test call, it said that there is a problem w/my playback device, but when I disconnected my speakers and plugged in my headphones, nothing changed. It worked for over a year before this; I'm not sure what would have caused this. My electric did go off for a little this afternoon, and the computer shut off; would that have caused it?

If you got any suggestions, plz help.

Hello, this is my first posting so please forgive me if I have a problem with the description.
I have a Logitech QuickCam Ultra Vision. I running Windows XP. When I am using Skype my audio output has a very loud overwhelming static/feedback/choppy noise. It is so bad that I have to turn the speakers off. The video feed if fine. I have deinstalled Skype & Windows Live messenger and the software for the QuickCam. I have followed the instructions for the audio set up to the T. Then I went back through the set over and over just to make sure that I didn't miss anything. This problem also happens if I am recording a video/audio message in the QuickCam program with my iTunes playing. Once I shut the iTunes off the problem goes away. When I am using Skype to contact someone the problem is always there even when I don't have any other programs running. If someone has any advice to give I would appreciate the input.

Thank you,

I am going to run a spyware scan while I wait.

I need help diagnosing a Skype audio issue. I can hear and see my friend perfectky, but he can only see me -- he hears my voice as a low, monster-like sound that is diffiult to understand. He is on a PC running XP, with Advance AC97 Audio, driver version is, with 2.52 GHz CPU and 512 MB RAM. Other sounds work fine. When we start a conversation, he hears me fine for a minute and then the sound gets crappy. His internet connection is also perfectly fine; his roommate's computer does not have this problem. Can anyon help me diagnose the issue? Thank you!

I am trying to help someone with Skype. The problem is no audio, either on a computer or iPhone.

In either case, there are no problems with the video. With the iPhone 6S, only noise is heard. The computer is Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1 64 bit with i3 processor and 4 GB or RAM, and the audio is totally silent, not even any noise.

Both devices have been tested to verify microphones/speakers are working (by connecting to music, for example, or, in the case of the phone microphone, placing calls).

The latest version of Skype has been downloaded to each device.

The speakers on the computer were verified as unmuted; the Skype audio test worked. Nevertheless, I cannot hear my contact, and my contact cannot hear me, although we can see each other.

I successfully tested the audio on my computer, using both the Skype audio test and Control Panel/Sound/Playback/Test

I have searched the internet and both the "Web & Email" and "All Other Software" forums of this web site, but could not identify anything relevant.

BTW, I had my contact install and run the latest version of Malwarebytes, but that made no difference.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Just wondered whether anyone could help with Skype audio settings - camera working, but not micro (integral) Have had separate ones in the past. When micro started causing problems, I bought this new camera/micro. But obviously it was my settings that were causing problems. Have fiddled with settings but getting nowhere. Have checked out this peripheral on another computer and an identical working peripheral on my PC. OS is Windows XP on a PC Am thinking of buying separate micro. Any ideas?

A:Skype Audio Settings

Think I have sorted it ! Was reading round and came up with illogical solution of Mic setting at 0 ! Tried this,(on Skype control settings) but didn't work Then I went into control panel audio settings and adjusted Mic setting to 0 But am wondering why my other microphone worked on previous settings ?? Wondering lots of things ...........

Thanks and hope no one has wasted any time on my problem - may help others, though.

I am responsible for a large number of Lenovo T-Series Notebooks and have a number of them (Mostly T450's and one T450S) that have the exact same problem. Hi, I have several users that are experiencing audio issues when trying to use Skype for Business 2016.   The issue is that when they Skype call out to a contact their mic and speakers or just microphone will not work.   The microphone not working is the most common issue.   However, they can have a contact call them and their microphone and speakers will function normally.  Here are the steps that I've tried to correct the issue: Quick Repair of Office 2016.Full Repair of Office 2016.Full removal of all Office products and reinstall of Office 2016.Update to latest sound drivers Conexant ISST Audio -- this causes both microphone and speakers to not function at all.Revert sound drivers for Conexant ISST Audio to -- this allows for the user to be able to recieve Skype calls but not be able to make Skype calls.Full removal of all sound drivers - restart - allow Microsoft to reinstall drivers.None of the items above have fully corrected the issue and it appears to be a specific issue with the Conexant ISST Audio drivers used by HP. Any ideas on how to correct this issue? Thank you!

I'm having problems with the audio on my computer (Windows 7 Home).
I'm using headphones, and I can hear sounds in Skype and the sound my video downloader makes when it's done.
But I can not hear the audio in my media players (VLC/WMP), or online videos like YouTube and Vimeo. Initially there was no sound at all, but now there is static in one ear when I hit play.
It was working perfectly earlier. The only thing I can think of that I did differently since then is that I went to an interactive website for an online class at learn.canvas.net, which tells me my browser is not supported, but lets me look at documents anyway.
I tried the Windows Troubleshooter, but it detected no problems.
Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

So I thought I'd give Skype a go last night. Called a friend and while the picture was fine he couldn't hear me. I couldn't hear him either but I'm sure that something on his side as my laptop plays music just fine. Anyone have a checklist of sorts that I can use to trouble shoot my sound/mic problems?

A:Audio doesn't work during Skype.

Hi, as I recall, not having used Skye for a while, there is a audio/ video test that you can perform
before connecting to check everything is working. If not, go to the control panel, hardware and sound in Win 7 and check your mic is setup correctly.
