I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

Could anyone tell me the advantages and disadvantages of disabling cache writing on the priming HDD? Thanks in advance

A:Cache Writing - Enable or not to enable?

I think the default setting is usually to enable it?

I have a dim understand of it from memory. As I recall, enabling it provides slightly faster performance but has a slight risk of data corruption in cases of a bad shutdown--like from a power outage. It can also have consequences when using RAID.

The geekiest thing to do is to enable it, but use a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) to eliminate the risk from power failure.

Me? I've always left it enabled and haven't knowingly suffered any negative consequences.

I've recently installed a wireless lan in my office. I have Roadrunner cable coming into their router which in turn is attached to a Linksys router. I have one desktop (Dell) running XP Pro hardwire to the router. I also have a laptop and another desktop connected via wireless. I've seen all over the place that you should not enable file sharing. So, how do you allow acces from one computer to another. I've set them all up on the same workgroup.....what am I missing? I've been able to send print from the wireless laptop to the printer attached to the wireless desktop. It's just the folders I'm having problems accessing.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

A:To enable or not to enable (file sharing that is)

Where exactly have "I've seen all over the place that you should not enable file sharing".

If you don't that is fine. But then you can't share files. Just a choice to make.

With a router you should be reasonably protected.

I've noticed my fan always stays on regading the temps when my machine is plugged on the 65W charger, temperatures remain between 38 and 57 on light use, but even when idling the fan kicks on as soon as I plug in my charger and turns off a couple seconds after I plug it off. I have tried to fix it by installing the patch mentioned on https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/es/en/solutions/ht506625 and changin the BIOS profile for the plugged status (it's on the same profile now both for AC plugged and unplugged) but the problem perists. Anyone knows how to fix this issue without the need to install 3rd party software or can point me to the windows 10 settings that regukate this behaviour? Thanks in advance.

Hi,This is the first Lenovo Laptop bought by me.I am using the laptop for a few days and the impressions are overalling good, but, I have 2 problems:The first is with the 2 battery system.I tought that the first battery to discharge was the removal battery, but that is not the case. Do I have to change something in BIOS?The second problem is with the UltraDockStation. When I have 1 USB disk connected to the DockStation, I am unable to backup laptop to USB disk, or to transfer big files (10GBs for example) (from the laptop to USB 3.0 disk). It starts normally and then it freezes the transfer. If I connect the USB disk directly to the laptop this problem doesn't occur. All components area updated, with Lenovo Vantage.Anyone has this problems and are there any ways to solve it?Thank you

A:2 Problems with new T480

I can only respond to the 1st question.  See post below.  you cant change in Bios discharge priority.  Discharge priority depends on the wear level of the 2 batteries.

Hey! I was wondering any kind of SSDs would work with the T480? Right now I bought it with 500 GB HDD and Intel Optane (16Gb), but in the future, I might consider upgrading to 512 nVME SSD for system. Also, what do you guys know about the battery life upon general internet usage? I bought a battery with 72Wh so in total it would be 96 Wh. Plus, I also own a Varta Power Bank (13mAh) 48,1 Wh. Do you guys believe it could charge the battery by any chance? https://www.varta-consumer.com/en/products/portable-power/overview/details/lcd-power-bank-13000 Please let me know you guys think! Bellow you can see the exact specs. (In general I will not use the dedicated GPU, just the integrated)

T480 doesn?t charge with the USB-C AC charger plugged in. when the AC charger is plugged in, the orange LED illuminates and blinks three times, the plugged in logo pops up momentarily then nothing. The thinkpad was purchased in October this year with everything working flawlessly... I then left the standard 45W charger at an airport. I ordered a replacement and received it 6 weeks ago and has been working fine until today... Do I have a dead AC charger? anyone have similar issues?

Hi everyone, today I upgraded the RAM and the SSD of my T480. I am absolutely not doing this for the first time and I was really careful. I removed the external battery and deactivated the internal battery before starting with the procedure. I used only ESD-safe tools and an ESD-wristband to make sure that the device doens't get damaged by static discharge. After installing the components, my device would no longer turn on. When I connect the charger, the power led flashes 3x but when I press the powervbutton nothing happens. No fan spin, no lights turning on, absolutly nothing.I then tried removing the RAM and the SSD and turning on the machine. But that didn't work as well. After that I tried removing all the power sources (internal and external battery, CMOS-battery), pressing the power button for 60 seconds and leaving the device for 1 hour before reconnecting everything. But it still can't turn it on. Do you guys have any idea what I could try to make my device work again? Thanks in advance. --resonance

I ordered a T480 with the Geforce MX150 option. Was surprised to see my delivered unit with Intel UHD 620 and simultaneously active with the Geforce GPU. The Intel GPU however is the default display adapter. Intel UHD 620 is active display adapterI've never quite seen this before. Desktop mainboard BIOS would typically disable the onboard GPU if slotted with an actual video card (leaving the OS blind to its presence), and all my previous laptops that I configured with a discrete GPU would have just that alone. Am I supposed to disable the UHD 620 in Device Manager in order to force the Geforce to take over? I don't see anything in the BIOS that can influence this (in fact it seems to suggest the UHD is in charge with its shared memory setting).

It's hard to pin point because it happens throughout the day. Any help is appreciated.  Thanks in advanced.

Hi,Recently bought a T480 with the 150MX Nvidia card. The laptop works great during normal operation during work etc but when I get home and want to play some games, nothing is working as it should. What happens is this:When I start the game everything is running good but after a few minutes I can see my CPU start to lower it's power limit (PL1) slowly towards 5W. It will stop at 5W never gaining any wattage back until i restart computer. The PL1 is at 15W when computer is newly booted. I have tried to uninstall the Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework, this results in that the processor is fixed at 15W but after a while the iGPU will go crazy and goes to 100% leaving the CPU at 2W = 0.2Ghz. And I have to restart. So this is not a valid solution. All my power settings are on maximum performance ofc.I have tried almost everything I can think of and been browsing all kind of reddit threads without any long term solution.

Hello all, Just received my sixth thinkpad in the last 23 years. It arrived yesterday.  It is a: T480, I7-8550U, 16GB(8+8), 512 M.2 SSD, iGPU, Win10 Pro The fan is really annoying.  It goes on and off constantly.  It seems to ramp up to full speed.  I have been reading about fan noise with this model all over the internet.  Is there a way for it to run constantly at a lower speed than the constant on and off?  My previous model was a T430 never had issues with fan noise (it was very quiet too when it ran). Currently running a test:  Not using the laptop at all.  Opened 1 tab on Chrome and have it sitting on cnn.com.  Also, opened one tab on Edge also on cnn.com.  Task manager open.  Chrome uses less CPU but more memory than Edge.  CPU is running between 15% and 20%.  Fan turns on every minute or so for about 20 to 30 seconds then goes off. It is loud and annoying going on and off.  Why can't it just be a constant lower speed?  On and off is ridiculous.  If this keeps up this machine is going back. Thanks for any replies and suggestions.

Ok so I have had the google redirect virus. I have been fighting it and the internet has worked until i followed a tutorial on fixing the virus that involved editing my host file. after that the internet stopped working.

I reset my host file to the original state but the internet still hasnt been working. When I run ipconfig /all in cmd it says DHCP Enabled: no.

I went to the the control panel and have both TCP/IPv6 and TCP/IPv4 settings set to automatic but this doesnt change the state of my dhcp. I have tried winsock and resetlog.txt but no luck.

I do not think this is related the the virus because it only spammed my internet. I think this is because of the changes I made in the attempt to fix the problem.

I am running windows 7 and I am posting this on a laptop since I cannot access internet via the suspect computer. Thanks in advance.

Hi Folks,I am looking at a new T480 (not T480s) as a potential work replacement.  I have used Thinkpads off and on since the late 1990s, and am currently using a T460.  I am a Linux user (Ubuntu).I see from specifications listings at Lenovo that the T480 has two (??) SO-DIMM memory sockets.  My T460 has one, and also has RAM soldered onto the Motherboard.  I would like to verify with another T480 owner that it does in fact, have two SO-DIMM sockets rather than one DIMM socket plus on board RAM.https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad%20T480/ThinkPad_T480_Platform_Specificati...Some of the T480s (specifically the i7-8650u model) have a Nvidia GPU.  I don't need this GPU and see it as something that really could just add battery drain without any benefit.  Can I just remove this GPU?  I see tear down videos of T480s models and it looks like it could be removed altogether.Thank you for any help.  In spite of being slightly larger and heavier than my current T460, the new T480 looks like a power user's dreams come true.  Just need to confirm the two things above to finalize my decision.

We buy a lot of these, and are running into this issue sporadically. These have the Intel Wireless-AC 8265 cards in them. It seems to have issues connecting to our enterprise radius wifi. (cisco APs) Sometimes it will connect OK, but other times it will err out after a bit saying 'cannot connect'. Disable/re-enable of the card, then a reboot will sometimes get it to connect. I have updated the drivers, doesn't seem to help. It's difficult to troubleshoot because sometimes it does work.I've spoken to our network admin extensively on this, he sees no issue with the routers/config themselves. We have many other devices that connect with no problem. (phones, other laptops, etc.)  Anyone seen this and have any suggestions?

We called Lenovo support and they told us to open the laptops before we dock them. For the full story:We have 2 external monitors connected to the docks so users leave the laptop closed when docked.Often, a user can put the computer back on the dock one monitor will work but it mirrors the laptop screen. The mouse/keyboard won't work on the dock but the trackpad and laptop keyboard will work. I've seen those components begin to work again after 10 minutes. All of a sudden the other monitor will turn on and then the screens will work properly. It almost feels like the dock is taking 10 minutes to realize that the computer has been put back on. We have been updating the firmware but it doesn't help. This doesn't happen every time but it is sporadic. Has anyone else seen similar issues? Thanks,Paul

I have a US model T480 and will be traveling to the UK. In the past, I've taken my MacBook Air and Dell XPS to this country and was simply able to purchase an adapter and it seemed the power brick did the conversion to the right volts. However, this is a new laptop and I want to make sure this will be the same case for my Thinkpad. So, has anyone taken their Thinkpad to the UK and have things work fine or should I just buy a converter? Thanks

I would like to know if I can use a USB 3.0 dock with T480 or it must be an USB-C dock? I think to use this USB 3.0 https://www.tutti.ch/de/vi/zuerich/computer-zubehoer/komponenten-zubehoer/thinkpad-usb-3-0-dock/2899... and then maybe exist an USB 3.0 to USB-c adapter? Thanks

Hello mrripe, yes you can use the ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock (pro or ultra) with the T480, not necessarily only the USB -C Dock

We just purchased 20 of the T480 laptops, with 40AF ThinkPad Hybrid USB-C with USB-A Dock's.  We are having several issues with these devices:The internal battery drains almost all the way down before the replaceable battery drainsThe monitors connected to the dock don't work in BIOS and pre-windows logon screen.  We are unable to enter the bitlocker unlock key without using the laptop itselfThe USB ports on the dock cut in and out.  You'll be moving your mouse and all of the sudden it stops moving, then jumps accross the screen.  You'll be typing, and all of the sudden you'll get 10 of 1 character.  This happens about every other minute or so. Sometimes the dock and laptop don't proprly recognize each other.  The orange light on the dock never turns white, the laptop never chargess.  The only way to fix this is the power cycle the dock. I've tried 2 different docks with my laptop, and they both have the same issues. Running BIOS 1.12, and I see the new BIOS version's don't fix any of these issues.

Hi guys, I am planning to purchase the T480. I am a Linux user, therefore, I will be installing Ubuntu 18.04. I will use VirtualBox to run a windows system which will be used to do word, excel, visio stuff. This will run through out my work day. Apart from that, I will also be spinning up other ubuntu VMs to run / test software and apps occassionally. The config I have in mind for the T480 is as below:- Intel Core i7-8650U Processor (8MB Cache, up to 4.2GHz)14.0" FHD (1920 x 1080), IPS,Anti-Glare,250nit32GB(16+16) DDR4 2400MHz SODIMMIntegrated Graphics (Intel UHD Graphics 620)1TB Solid State Drive PCIe-NVMe M.2 2280 OPAL 2.0 So I am opting for the integrated graphics as I will not be playing any games or doing any graphics / video editing related stuff. Also so that I can save on battery consumption. However, I also notice that if I opt for the MX150 graphic card instead, there will be 2 heatpipes resulting in better cooling system. So, I would appreaciate some advise on this. Is it ok to go with the intergrated graphics with the work I do? Will the system heat up if running multiple VMs ?Should I invest on the MX150 for better cooling ? And will there be significant usage of battery with this ?Overall, what is the advise. Also, if I should be patient and wait for the T490 assuming it will be launched in Jan / Feb 2019. I've used the x240 before and I did experience massive heat on the bottom of the laptop.  The X1 carbon 6th gen i...
