Serious Issues (Freezing issues/No internet/ Can't run DDS, GMER, etc) [Computer 2]

Q: Serious Issues (Freezing issues/No internet/ Can't run DDS, GMER, etc) [Computer 2]

Hi there,

This is my second computer that I am having problems with. This computer seemingly has more of an issue than my other computer in that I cannot run the GMER program at all, I can't run the DDS application (it freezes my computer everytime). The only thing I can do is run the defogger.

There is some kind of worm/virus/malware that is causing my system to run inefficiently and with such poor performance as the computer just started acting up. I checked my PC usage and it was at 100% which is extrememly abnormal. Also anytime I open internet explorer, it freezes and has to be shut down and reopened, just for the same thing to happen. (Same with Chrome)

I don't know what to do since the DDS freezes everytime I try to run it, the black screen appearing to be working but never producing any logs and freezing the computer....and the GMER isn't working either. I am typing this from my other computer because the infected PC has the above mentioned browser/internet issues.

I ran antimalware bytes and it said there were no infections found, I'll include the log, also I have AVG2011 for my antivirus. It is noteworthy to say that the desktop Icons are present but do NOT work, I can't click them half the time...I'll have to use the start, computer etc. buttons to get to use the shortcuts.

Please post ANY help, it is greatly appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Serious Issues (Freezing issues/No internet/ Can't run DDS, GMER, etc) [Computer 2]

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi everyone! I'm having several problems with my computer, hopefully someone could help me out, I'll appreciate it.

1. Computer is running really slow, as well as the internet
2. When using google, if I click on one of the results from the search it sends me to a random ad(most of the time related to antivirus/spyware)
3. When restarting the computer, most of the time it freezes on the welcome window.
4. Sometimes the computer freezes when I open a program
5. Doesn't let me open Malwarebytes' Antimalware, SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot Search and Destroy.
*Didn't let me open GMER

Recently I removed vundo virus from the computer (since then my computer is a mess),but I guess the are some malware still left to eliminate.

For the past week or so I've been experiencing odd issues with my computer. I created a BP user account in hopes that you guys might help me determine whether or not my issues are related to Malware/viruses/root kits.  Several days ago I stupidly attempted to download a file from WinWiki which might have been infected.. Download "failed" in FireFox and there was no trace of it in the downloads folder.

Hi all,
Going to try and make this brief, "try" being the operative word here..

I have a Gateway PC running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit
4 gigs of ram but obviously not all useable (yet)
Dual core processor
Nvidia 9800GT graphics Card
Corsair 650 watt PSU
HT Omega Striker 7.1 Souncard..

Kaspersky Internet Security 2012
Nvidia 280.65 driver (latest)

Basically have done a lot of upgrades on this PC with the exception of the motherboard and CPU.

Two days ago I noticed when I log into my PC, it will boot up, however shortly after, programs will begin to stop responding. Sometimes the PC will boot into a black screen, other times I get to the desktop and the taskbar clocks and just does not work, then other times as stated, will boot up, work for about 15 to 30 minutes until explorer stops responding and ultimately, everything else I try to use.

Here are some behaviors I noticed:Is probably not hardware related as safe mode does work as should no matter how long I use it
Could not install programs - when trying, would freeze or fail (in reg desktop)
One weird thing I noticed is that the hard drive activity LED will start doing a repetitive pattern when the system begins to freeze... it will light up for 3 to 4 seconds to show activity, then blink on and off, then light again for the same time, then blink.. same exact pattern over and over again.. all the while you can hear the drive making the same noise, almost as thought its "skipping" (again, safe m... Hi everyone.

Brand new here and looking for help before my computer crashes beyond repair. Sorry in advance for the long post.

I get occasional CTDs while playing games. Not graphic intensive...but just random games. I thought while this was happening that the graphics card was overheating...took off the side panel, put a fan on it and cleaned out all dust and reseated the cards. But this last time It would not display an image....the monitor stayed in "power save mode"...aka..OFF, even though the computer was starting up. I hooked up another monitor after a period of time and it worked....and then my original monitor and that worked again too. So I really don't know what happened.

Here is what I am running.
Athlon FX-53
2 gigs ram
500gig HD (2X250gig Raid 0)
Radeon x800xt PE
SB audigy zs
NEC 22inch CRT monitor

I have updated all drivers, direct X, virus and spyware scanners.
updated windows
all fans are spinning
cleaned out the inside of the computer

I downloaded Speedfan to check temps and fans.
Not sure what I should be looking at...but it tracks 3 fans....
Fan 1 2836 RPM
Fan 2 1436 RPM
Fan 3 0 RPM

Then at the bottom there is a bunch of voltages
Vcore1: 1.55V
Vcore2: 0.00V
+3.3V: 3.31V
+5V: 5.03V
+12V: 11.71V

Just from what you posted, I would take a look at your power supply. 11.7V on the 12V rail is somewhat low and I think it will go lower under a heavy load.

Next start checking your hardware ie memory, and hd. If both of those checkout ok, then I would give the board a close inspection with a bright light; look for bulging and or leaking capacitors on the board.

It would help if you posted exact specs ie make and model of motherboard, brand, speed, and amount of ram, brand and wattage of power supply, etc.

Hi, so recently, within the past few days, my computer will start freezing completely seemingly at random times. Although I have noticed that it seems to mostly happen while trying to play video games on my computer or when I was watching a movie on my computer. What ends up happening is that these weird blue squiggly lines appear on my computer while it is freezing as well as my keyboard stops working. If any additional information is required please feel free to ask. Any help is greatly appreciated and desperately needed! Thank you.
Here is a photo I took on my phone of what my monitor looks like as my computer freezes if that helps :S

Hi, my computer started acting up yesterday. Upon starting the machine everything runs a little slower than I'm used to and there seems to be quite a bit of action happening on the HDDs. After a little while (10 - 30 minutes) the machine freezes up completely and I have to reboot it. If I try closing or opening programs after it starts to freeze up nothing happens for a little while, but after clicking randomly around a few times the onboard sound card starts making a constant beeping sound and I have to power off/on.

I did a scan with spybot(found nothing) and a quickscan with MalwareByte's Anti Malware (found 4 threats, log added at bottom). I am unable to run a full scan with Malwarebyte as my computer freezes up before it manages to complete the scan. I also did a run of CCleaner (piriform), and the only errors it found was some unrecognized file extensions left over after uninstalling some programs a while back.

While I've had the crashes occur without any mediaplayers running it does appear as if starting videos increase the frequency of the crashes. Upon a crash the video will stop completely while the last 2 or so seconds of the sounds start going on a loop. I am however able to exit fullscreen and close the mediaplayer during the freezeup, and the icon disappears from the taskbar (yet the other icons don't take it's place, it just leaves an open space where it used to be).

Shortly before the problems started I remember I got a warning mess... Read more

Some additional information:
I use AVG free antivirus program, it hasn't found any issues.
Finally managed to run a complete scan of my system disk(C: partition) with anti-malware, it turned up blank (no infections)

Complete freezes definately happen more frequently while using a media player. If I play a movieclip in media player classic freezes happen usually after about 5 minutes, VLC doesn't start at all (may be an old issue, never really used VLC), MP3s in Windows media player also cause the crashes.
Playing videos on youtube however seems to be working fine (had one crash earlier on youtube, but I think that was a coincidence as the computer also can crash with no programs running).
To see if there was a problem with video card I did run 2 seperate 3D rendering programs (openGL, one of them use quite a lot of video memory) and that worked fine.
Surfing the net and using windows explorer is definately a lot slower than I'm used to and I occationally get 2 - 3 second freezes.
It seems like windows explorer + webbrowser loses focus at times without anything popping up in front stealing the focus, but I'm not sure if that really is the case or if it's the small freezes that makes it seem like focus is lost.

I've also tried unplugging both my DVD player and the 2 HDDs that don't contain the OS, did not make any difference.

Adding a list of installed programs (captured by CCleaner) as attachment, don't think there's any new stuf... Read more

I have had this laptop 4-5 years and for the last year or so am having a lot of trouble. I have saved all my photos and music on a thumb drive. Hello, I'm having issues with my computer constantly and randomly freezing. It happens when I'm using Firefox, watching a video with media player or just going through folders... so pretty much no matter what I'm doing. I've tried rolling back the updates to a previous version, forcing update install and doing a registry clean up but still no luck. I've also tried checking the processes to see if something is eating up all of the memory when it happens but nothing seems to be. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hello! firstly, thank you for taking the time to read all this, i truly appreciate any help with this as it's been bothering me for a very long time now.

The problem currently is applications going unresponsive and basically freezing for 30 seconds to 2 minutes at a time at random times. This issue also doesn't seem to be related to any programs i currently use and doesn't seem to be caused by heavy use (cpu tends to stick around 50% at most, under 10% when idle).

I've tried to get help or even a clue as to why this is happening but haven't gotten any that seem to be relevant to my situation.

To give a little background information on my computers lifespan, this issue came to be after my computer was locked into an infinite restart cycle (computer would turn on, load up to before windows logo and restart), i then brought it into a computer shop who deals with that type of issue and they managed to fix it and then told me that it had something to do with a wifi adapter that was in my tower, i didn't think anything of it but after having gotten my computer back from them did the freezing become a big issue, it would happen every 30 mins to an hour at random times (sometimes even 10 minutes apart of the last one) and i have no means of stopping it once it starts (only waiting for all the programs to respond again)

If anyone can give any insight into any solutions, i'd greatly appreciate the help.

I'm not sure if this question is entirely suited for this website, but I'm desperate for help. If anyone has a better recommendation for a place that I could seek assistance, please let me know.

Anyways, my computer has been running into the same issue repeatedly for the past few weeks. After about 30 minutes of use, whether I'm working, playing a game, listening to music, or even leaving the computer idle, the computer will promptly freeze. I've tried a multitude of things, but nothing seems to work, and anything displayed on the screen is fully inaccessible. It forces me to hold down the power button and restart the entire computer.

That's the bulk of the issue, here are some details. Before this issue started, my house was lacking internet, I used it, while offline, a few times during this period to write some documents, watch some previously downloaded movies, and so on. Like in the past, I was able to use the computer for as long as I wished. The first time I used the computer after internet was reestablished, the freezing issue took hold. Its not like internet has always been the catalyst for this problem, in fact, the computer was working just fine a few weeks before in New York where I had internet. Additionally any songs I am listening to on Pandora will finish, even though I can't get to them, but won't continue on afterwards.

If anybody has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know!

I dunno what the problem is but my computer likes to freeze while running programs like computer games. I also have issues on the side with freezing when trying to run programs that use memory for long ammounts of time like adaware and when compressing for over 20 mins in winrar. I have no idea what the problem is but it was still there when I reformatted. It isn't my video card is it? I looked in event viewer and one program does come up alot consistantly. Under system its described that IPSEC services had a problem because the authentication services where unknown. If anything that would be the problem with the computer freezing if it had to do with errors since its the only thing that comes up ALOT. The problem isn't isolated to only CD games though it also occurs in games like doom. I have an AMD athlon processor with 901 mhz 128 mb ram Nvidia Vanta LT card.

Hey there,
so I've come here as a last resort, I have a computer which I used to personally use but after months of frustration with it's issues I gave up and bought a new system. I gave the old system to my parents however as they we're still using a Win 94 system which took hours to boot up. The system all in all had average specs, 4gb ram, intel core 2 quad, 1tb hdd, gt 220 gpu, win7, however there was always one main issue which I could never seem to fix. It always seemed to crash. You would maybe get a few minutes use after booting the computer up before the mouse would start lagging around the screen before coming to a complete halt and becoming completely frozen, at this stage the only way to use the system was holding the on and off button and giving it a restart. This issue is still apparent and is frustrating my parents instead of me now, they want to go back to the Win94 system it's so bad however I would really like to be able to give them a chance to experience how nice a fast running system can be.

So yes, thank you for taking the time out to read this and I would love it if someone could help - as I said this is pretty much a last resort to finding a solution without forking out £100 for someone to fix it when the system itself is now probably only worth about £150.

Thanks guys, please let me know if you need any extra info!

Has the OS and drivers been freshly installed since the problem occurred?

Is Windows Event Viewer logging any errors?

Reset the BIOS to factory default, save and exit. Boot back into the BIOS and disable all unused hardware and features, save and exit.

Disconnect/reconnect all cables and hardware (ie: RAM, video card, etc.).

You can test the RAM using memtest86.
You can test the HDD using the drive manufacturers disk tools.

Three years ago my mom needed a new computer. I wanted to build her one but my dad refused to go that route and so while doing research for them Staples had a nice bundled HP system that some of the people I knew quite well who worked at this particular store said it was a good system.

This is what I remember about it: Asus motherboard, E4300 Intel dual core @1.8 GHz, 2 gigs of DDR memory, and Vista 32-bit.

Well she has been having serious freezing issues and other things happening. Below is what she wrote me in that I'll put in blue:

Before Staples:

PC keep locking up. Would not turn off or respond to any commands. Had to pull power plug in and out to kick up it several times than PC would turn on and work but froze during operation.

Took it five times to Staples. Each time a virus was found even though they ran a diagnostice test and removed virus. 5th time, Staples ran a day long diagnostic only to find that it proved that NORTON was the reason for freeze. Took too much room and wouldn't let computer work.

Replaced Norton with Kaspersky.

Staples said last time that the PC was probably having other failures and it doesn't pay to bring it back. They suggested a new computer

After Staples:Works great [after doing some disc clean-up that she can't remember exactly what she had done  ]. But getting it turned on some times requires these steps.

1. Won't start on first try. Moniter shuts down.

A:Mom's computer has freezing/other Issues. Diagnostic advice please

I would rank replacing the video card a pretty high priority, given the symptoms.

Download this jcgriff2 .exe: http://www.jcgriff2.com/BSODpostinstructions.html

You may have seen me ask for that a few times, in BSOD threads. What that does, is it collects the minidumps, event logs, Windows Error Reporting, some driver listings, an MSINFO32 file, and much more. It will save all this in a folder in Documents.

By the way make sure the .exe is in the Documents folder before you run it. Take the output folder home with you, and we can look at it later.

I also recommend you install TeamViewer, so you can work on software causes from the comfort of your couch, if need be.

Run your own virus scan, who knows what the Geek Squad uses. I recommend Malwarebytes, but others have other preferences.

What I didn't see in your mom's description was what happens when she tries to boot in Normal mode. Safe Mode doesn't actually install the files it displays, just for your own information. That's just what it has loaded.

When playing online games I used to get a ping of around 40-50, now it will spike up to 500-700, the other night I saw over a 1000.
I have rebooted my router, modem computer and still the same problem.
My son now shuts off my computer when he plays Xbox saying that it lags him out.

So I figure maybe it's a virus, so I install some new antivirus software, now my computer will boot up but hang after my desktop loads.

Then I remove my hard drive and install a new drive, and try reinstalling windows 7-64,
but not having any luck as my computer freezes during the installation.

So I am thinking maybe it is a hardware problem, bad ram?

Any thoughts?

A:High Ping Lag Issues Freezing Computer

There are some diagnostics that can be run outside of Windows, and also a hardware/software reset that can sometimes resolve installation/boot issues. Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:Shut down and turn off your computer.
Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

Reset the system to a nominal power state, clear temporary memory corruption, and reset BIOS hardware/software connections:

Hey guys,
DELL Inspiron ONE Computer
Intel Core i5 2.5 GHz
64-Bit Windows 7 Professional
Computer is 8 months old.
A brief summary of my issues for the past 2 months:
1. Freezing. Started to throw up Blue and Black screens on the odd occasion. Didn't matter what I was doing.
2. I reformatted it a month and a half ago and the screens stopped. But every so often the computer would freeze, restart and then I would get "Disk Read Error" or "Please insert a bootable device". After several restarts with my Windows 7 Disc eventually a blue screen would appear saying "BCD error. etc". I would restart again with my Windows 7 Disc, it would detect the startup issue but say it couldn't repair it, and then when I would restart it would log in normally.
3. It was like tic and toe. Days would go by without any issues, then the booting issues would start and I would muck around for 10 minutes with the Windows 7 Disc to get it to boot again.
4. Yesterday was a change. My computer would boot to the BIOS screen and then it would give me a black screen. And it did that no matter how many times I restarted. So I tried the Windows 7 Disc. As usual, couldn't repair the startup issues. Couldn't load a System Restore image, so I was left with Command Prompt. Ran the fix mbr/bcd commands which it said it did successfully, but that made no difference. Then I tried to repair the BCD. And this is where some more issues came up. I got lot... Read more

First let me say what a brilliant service you run - it is very much appreciated.

I am having a number of issues, all or most of which may be due to an infection by sysvxd.exe. I am sure that is present on my system.

I am also having difficulty with running gmer to get gmer.txt. I get error messages, and the manage uploads function would not accept the generated text file (which anyway seems empty). I'll deal with that last.

1. Browser Issues:
- clicks on search results for all search engines (Google, Yahoo, Ask etc) launch another proprietary search page in a new window, not the link on the page
- the url for the link in the SERP does not show on the status bar
- copying and pasting the url from the search results page gives same response (i have to copy them to notepad, then type them to get where i am going)
- all antivirus vendor sites are blocked (can't update my AV)
- thetechsupportforum, bleeping computer etc are blocked

2. Operating System issues:
- firewall is turned off approx. 15 seconds after the desktop boots
- regular error messages of "instruction at 0x023773cc reference memory at 0x023773cc" for winlogon.exe, dep.exe (data execution prevention?), winlogon.exe, winauclt.exe, reader_sl.exe and others

My first problem is that Windows will randomly freeze up and I end up having to hard reboot my system. Windows will also BSOD on me randomly. I've read a number of things online about how to fix it, but nothing seems to help.

Also, another problem, I'm not quite sure how to explain this one. I'm not too computer savvy so forgive me if it doesn't make sense. Windows seems to "lag" from time to time as well. I'll move the mouse and it will appear off somewhere else, just like how you lag in video games, where you would move and appear in other places because the computer can't process it. Also, during this "lag" if there is any audio playing it will "loop"? The sound will repeat until the "lag" spike goes away. This will happen about 3 to 6 times within a few seconds and then it will stop. Sorry if I made that confusing but that's the best way I know how to describe it.

If anyone can offer any suggestion on how to fix these two problems, I would greatly appreciate it.

I've included the most recent minidump file and my system specs.

Hello Welcome to SF,

I guess the issueis with one of the core Windows compenent ndis.sys This problem may occur if you installed the NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Compatible Transport protocol on your computer and you are using the Driver Verifier Manager to troubleshoot your Ndis.sys driver's Special Pool feature.
Reinstall you display driver and make sure you download them from vendors wensite and NOT from Windows update. Uninstall if your using any third party anitvirus or Firewall see whether that makes any difference. Update you BIOS firmware. If your Overclocking please stop it.

Run the Memory Diagnostic & HD Diagnostic

Also i would recommend to run System Integrity Checker

Hey guys,

Need some help. First, I have the trojan NTOSKRNL.HOOK on my laptop now. I can not boot in normal mode as it immediately gives me blue screen. I am now logged in in Safe Mode with Networking.

I went through DDS and results below.

I then try and run GMER and get errors starting the program:

"LoadDriver( "C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\Temp\inyafakj.sys") error 0xC000035F: This service cannot be started in Safe Mode"

Then this error:

"C:\Windows\system32\config\system: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process:"

GMER then loads but only the "Services", "Registry" and "Files" checkboxes are enabled on the right side. I click scan and get 4 similar errors to those above then a message stating "GMER hasn't found any system modification."

PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks!

First off - thank you very much for maintaining this site. It's awesome.General Issues:- Google searches redirect to random sites- Random sites pop up every once in a while.- AVG (9.0) has been picking up multiple viruses with online shield (and sometimes resident shield), most of the time this is when I'm redirected. It seems to 'fix' all the problems, but rootkit scans nor virus scans pick up much of anything, and I'm still having issues.- I've been seeing quirky things happen like itunes wierding out (says audio settings have been altered, and it becomes unplayable until I restart). These issues generally crop up when the computer has been on for a long period of time. Sometimes the computer won't shut down when prompted, sometimes I get sys32 error messages, etc etc. Everything generally functions fine, it's just random oddities with the occasional meltdown.- GMER crashes the computer about an hour or so into the scan, every time. I'll walk in and it will have restarted on it's own. I caught it in the act once - blue screen of death and then a restart. I'm not sure if it saves a log of what it found up to that point... I've been unable to get it going.- General computer performance seems shoddy at times.Basically, I run the computer as tightly as I can, I've got an external firewall, I run AVG cleans every few days, and I keep my internet usage to very defined safe sources. So, I've got two separate, but somewhat related issues. One has been going on for a year and still hasn't been resolved (posted about it before) but I have some updated info, the other one is new.
AsHere I go ....

1. Can't Connect to the Internet
I all of a sudden could not connect to the internet. As my wireless isn't working currently, I used a wired connection. I am using that wired connection right now on my work computer that I am messaging from, so I know it isn't a modem/router issue. I have removed all the anti-spyware that I had and only installed Avast!, I re-installed all the drivers, and I contacted my internet provider. In troubleshooting with the internet provider, we tested the ping for www.google.com, which didn't work, but when we pinged the numerical ip address, it did. The same thing happened when I opened my browser. The representative said that the IP address was not being resolved by the DNS (is that correct)??? Anyways, that's where I am at - how do I resolve it so that the IP address is resolved?

2. First, for some extra background, please see the thread from a year ago that I had posted:
Here's what I posted initially before:
I have a Compaq Presario R3440CA with a Broadcom Wireless card. I used to be able to connect to my wireless just fine. Now when I try to 'Find network connections', the error comes up as follows:

Recently, I have been having some really odd graphical issues in my internet browser (Chrome but also happens in IE10). I have run Antimalwarebytes and MSE and they turned up nothing. I have some examples.

Last one is a example of what Steam looks like right now for me. I'm at a loss at what to do. Anti-virus shows nothing, rebooted router and modem, restarted computer, I can't seem to run any program that I download. It could be a virus but I can't find it with any program I run. I do have some graphical issues in video games. Such as in Dota II. Some characters will be missing some of their graphics. For instance a character model will not have his Hat on or have a weapon. Any help will be appreciated.

A:Weird Internet browser issues and graphical issues

IE10 in Win 7 has turned out to be a bit of a Pandora's Box with Flashplayer and Shockwave problems - not sure if it could also include Silverlight as well.

You could try uninstalling/reinstalling those to see if that improves or try the sites in Firefox.

Create a restore point before you uninstall Shockwave though because I've had a H of a problem with that in IE for it to include the ActiveX Control add-ons on the reinstall.

You could also see if they view okay in Safe Mode etc.

If they do then that could point to a graphics driver problem, but I think it's the media that's probably causing this problem.

You could also download Speccy or HW Monitor to see if it's an overheating issue to be on the safe side.

Dell XPS 1330 running windows vista 64 bit, 4 g ram, (supposed to be) 320 g harddrive

Oooooooooookkkaaaayy.... well. This is probably all my fault really. I thought I could fix stuff.... turns out I dont actually know what I'm doing and I think I may have made things worse....To start from the begining- In general, I have an issue with the hard drive... When I remove stuff, the hard drive adds gigabytes rather than removing them. It says something like '213 gbs out of 293' and and when I started I KNOW there was way more than that and I've uninstalled all the programs I added (Long story) and cleaned out the hidden files so I know for a fact there is nothing there to take up the space. I want my memory back, grrrar. Anyway...

So I was going through my control panel and deleting bloatware, you know stuff the laptop came with that I dont really need, trying to figure out the affor mentioned problem of memory adding instead of lessening and I removed this thing called 'Microsoft Games for Windows LIVE redistributeable' thinking Oh, thats just some app trying to get me to use games I dont need, lets get rid of it. BIG mistake. After that my games (Fallout 3 and oblivion, to be specific) had issues. Fallout wouldn't start, something about 'xlive.ddl' which I figured must have something to do with the microsoft games whatsit and oblivion seemed to be fine but I decided to uninstall it (just...don't ask....) and I started getting this error- setupdll/setupdll.cpp (390) PAPP:Oblivi... So i followed all the steps to execute the GMer file to get a log for inspection but everytime i try to scan with GMer my computer freezes up.

Anyone know why this might be happening?

Thanks in advance.

A:GMer freezing up my whole computer everytime i run a scan

There are varying reasons GMER will not run.Open GMER and deselect (uncheck):IAT/EATDrives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\) Show All <- don't miss this oneIf that does not work you may also need to uncheck Devices and Sections from the options on the right, along with the items noted above, then try running it again. If it's still crashing, also uncheck Files.Should GMER still fail to run or continues to crash, try running it in safe mode. If you still cannot get GMER to run, then skip that step and continue with the next. When you have done that, post your log in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum, NOT here, for assistance by the Malware Response Team Experts.

I'm not very experienced with Win2k but my boss needs help. Her computer is a Thinkpad A22m, pIII 600 mhz, 328mb ram. For some reason, the ethernet port on the back of the computer does not function...so we're using an old-school ethernet pcmcia card with adapter. The adapter seems to work fine...all three lights work properly, and when I look at the status of the LAN connection it seems to be sending packets and connecting fine. However, it's not receiving any packets at all, and it won't connect to any website. The adapter is a Linksys EtherFast 10/100 card. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hello. I am not very techie, so here it goes:
I have 2 computers: 1 desktop and 1 laptop. I have one lonely dsl modem. I have been plugging the ethernet? (wide phone plug thing) into the laptop to do some things and the desktop for others or if the kids are playing on one, I use the other, etc.

The internet connection seems sort of flakey on the desktop. It doesn't always connect, it sometimes takes a long time to get the connection to really work.

The other primary problem with the desktop is that it doesn't always recognize a cd or cd-rom or dvd-rom when I put it in the drive. It almost always recognizes Lego Batman, Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Indiana Jones 2, and Lego Star Wars (the complete saga). It doesn't recognize the Spiderman:friend or foe game or many of my other discs. Sometimes it recognizes it for awhile, and mid-game, it stalls and says to insert the disc which is still in the drive! (& by the way is it disk or disc?)

So, most of the time I do things with the laptop and move everything on a disc to thumb drive and then move the thumb drive to the desktop and load from there, and sometimes that works, but it sometimes doesn't because it wants it on drive letter whatever - cd-rom, and it is on another letter - thumb drive.

I would like to solve this problem, but I've been living with it so far.

So to jump topics a bit, I bought a Linksys G-router. I hooked it up and followed all the instructions but it doesn't really seem to w... Read more

Hi, recently my computer's internet has been running extremely slowly. Web pages and online videos (youtube, hulu) take forever to load. In general, the rest of the computer has been running pretty good. I have no idea what is wrong with my internet. So to begin I must say that I don't know much when it comes to networking, so if you could bear with me that would be great.
For the past month or so the internet connection on one computer in my household (I have 2 total) has been very inconsistent. The internet speed has decreased significantly and there are times when it does not work at all. When I run the troubleshooter I usually get the same sort of errors(not all at once); "DNS server not responding", "gateway timeout" and "no access to router of access point".

I've been with my internet company for a number a years and I haven't had any problems. I've made no recent hardware changes or significant updates. This computer is the farthest of the 2 from the router, but that has never been a problem before. If there is any other information I need to provide please let me know. And thanks in advance!

can we see an xirrus screen shot from the problem PC

whats the make and model of the wireless router and how old is it ?

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

Direct link to the program is here http://info.xirrus.com/Wi-FiInspectorConfirmation.html

{If the above link does not work heres another link http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download/fid,77196-order,4/download.html}

Then run and install the program - on a wireless enabled PC/Laptop
if you get an error - You need will need to have NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.
On windows 8 - (i do not have windows 8) but, it would appear that, When you first try to run, you may get a message that .net framework is needed, and included in that message is a link to download/install.

Run the program

I'm posting about a different computer this time. I've been helping my friends with their computers and it seems that the more I try and help the more things get (Edit) screwed up. This time, my friend wanted this 'my search' bar removed so I googled it and it took me to a forum that had instructions on how to remove the software. I followed the instructions and as soon as I had deleted that one registry entry that it said to. The computer said it was going to shut down in 1 minute. I shut it down and booted the computer back up and the internet now says that there is limited or no connectivity. This is a dell deminsion computer that has a wired connection to the linksys router. I've talked to linksys and they said to talk to Dell support. I called Dell and they told me to talk to their helpdesk support. Helpdesk costs money. I'm not paying money for a stupid search bar that blew up the internet. It isn't a driver issue, it isn't a hardware issue, it isn't anything but supposedly a software issue. I'll try to post a hijackthis log if I can get it onto that computer somehow. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Here's what I have as far as antivirus/antispyware programs:

* Avast Free Antivirus
* Spybot Search and Destroy, ran a couple days ago but ended up not completing the scan due to the frequency issue described below. (Haven't tried to run again since then)
* Just installed free version of Ad-Aware today and ran a scan earlier which found (& removed) some sort of generic Trojan. Ended up having to restart the pc due to an error I will describe below and now it says failed to connect when I try to run it.

Other issues:

* Logitech USB Mouse randomly stops responding but if I unplug it and plug it back in it will be fine for awhile before doing it again. (not a main issue but annoying)
* For about a week I have randomly had my pc seemingly turn off with some sort of error on the monitor that says something about frequency being out of range with some numbers i didn't make a note of. The first two times this happened I was rendering a video using Sony Vegas so I thought it had something to do with that (although up until that point I'd rendered hundreds of videos without problems) but after that the error has been random and occurs when I am doing various different things, sometimes when the computer is just idle
* There are a couple installed programs/apps which i did install but cannot uninstall due to some error.
* Randomly checked my error logs in control panel and noticed alot of strange system errors.

Okay, About three months ago, I got hacked HARD...permissions were changed, administrator rights were removed from my administrator accounts, etc. i was flabbergasted. THe iactually didn't bother me though until I ran a MBAM scan and found 133 viruses and spyware instances on my drive (NOT including tracking cookies!). I cleaned and recleaned, using MBAM, SuperantiSpyware, Avira, running each one in safe mode first, then loading into my normal account and running them, and finally erasing my user account and creating a new one. But even after the new user account was created with Administrator privileges, I still routinely received virus and Malware threat warnign flags from MBAM and Avira. Eventually, Avira and MBAM were disabled and Avira was "deleted" (Windows will not uninstall because the setup.exe file has been 'Changed" and won't reinstall it because I don't have "Administrator privileges" on my Administrator accounts!) even though at startup I receive an error message saying that Avira has been corrupted. The most telling issue is that antivirus and spyware/Malware scans come up clean on Safe mode scans, but using my normal account, the machine reboots. Using Superantispyware I notice that it's always during the memory test that this occurs (and in Safe Mode, it passes through this section with no issue). None of my antivirus programs will download updates, even ones I start manually, and although I have no problem acc... Read more

There are two internet services in my house.

There is a Dell computer running on Windows 7 that is having problems connecting to the wireless Bell internet. The speed is around 0.85 Mbps when it connects. However, when I use my Toshiba laptop (windows 8) to connect to the same wireless Bell internet, the speed is much better... around 6 Mbps.

I do not think it is a hardware problem with the Dell. When I use the Dell computer and connect it to the second wireless internet, Teksavvy, I get 16.24 Mbps (which is the normal speed).

So, this one computer is only having problems with the one internet service. Why? It needs to be using the Bell internet, so I can't just leave it on Teksavvy. I need to get it working with the Bell internet. Any insights?

Recently we had an extreme lightning storm, which fried two of our televisions. We believe it not to be a power surge, but that the lightning itself struck so close to the house that it grounded itself in the televisions that were on and fried the circuit boards.

Now we believe that none of the computers were "harmed" during this awful series of storms. However... i am left with this scenario. Bear with me, and if you have any questions to receive more information please ask and i will love to answer then, because this is a strange situation.

Computer 1 cannot connect/recognize my router. It shows no response to being plugged into the router by ethernet cable. Computer 1 however CAN connect directly to the modem via ethernet cable, and recognizes it. When plugged into the modem Computer 1's internet connection works as normal. Strangely enough, Computer 2 can connect flawlessly to both the router AND the modem. Computer 2 recognizes both the router when connected, and the modem. Why might it be that computer 1 cannot connect to our router?

FYI; -We have tested ethernet cables. Changing computer 1's ethernet cable had absolutely no effect. It still discovered the modem but not the router. A bad cable i believe to be out of the situation.
-We have a basic DSL modem which is connected directly to the line that comes into the house. From the modem, we connect the router, which allows us to connect up to 4 devices via ethernet ports. We have changed up the ... Read more

A:Computer Internet Connection Issues!

I'd try another network card for the PC.

The lightening had to have come in either through the power/electrical supply, through the phone line, or through the cable/satellite lines to have damaged the TV's and the computer or router. Obviously something has happened to the computer or the router if it suddenly doesn't work after the storm, just as with the TV's, partial failures are not at all uncommon in such situations.

So I recently started having issues with the internet on this computer, I wasn't sure and am still not what the cause is. I should be getting 15MBs down and 3MBs up. When testing the speeds on this computer I am using I get anywhere from 0.3-3MBs down and 0.3-1MB up, other times it will just fail to load the page. Since my first thought was it could be the internet I tested it on my phone and I get full speed, I also tested it with another computer connected to the network with a wireless adapter and it gets full speed. So I thought hey maybe it's my wireless adapter, so I plugged this laptop straight into the router and what do you know full speed. So I proceeded to hook up a USB Wireless adapter to this laptop and I am still getting slow speeds.

I also ran a scan both in safe mode and in windows with AVG, Malwarebytes & Spybot, along with an online scan of Trend Micro and Bitdefender and none of them found anything.

Long story short, anything wireless on this computer gets slow speeds, direct connection gets me full speed.

I have been looking for an answer on Google and have yet to find anything helpful, any information you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Please post your (2) speedtest results, one wired and one wireless.

Changing the Wireless Mode usually on mixed (N, G/N - if your router supports N) might help.
