Ultra Dock+T450s+External Monitor Not Working

Q: Ultra Dock+T450s+External Monitor Not Working

Hello, I recently bought the Ultra Dock 90 for my T450s. I have one external monitor currently connected through the dock. When I push the power button on the docking station (laptop lid closed) to turn on the computer, the computer turns on, but the external monitor does not engage. When I lift the laptop lid, there is no image on the laptop screen either. The laptop is on, but does not respond to any key stokes on the actual laptop. I then have to do a hard reboot using the power button on the laptop. If I initially power the laptop by lifting the lid and hitting the laptop power button, the compter boots and my external screen works. I can then close the laptop lid and everything is fine. I know the power button on the dock should power the computer and external monitor on. I am guessing there is a simple solution to resolve this, but I am not a computer person and need help. One thing to note - when I lift the lid after trying to power the laptop through the dock, I see that the Function Green Light is illuminated. Not sure if this information is helpful in determining the problem. Please help! Peterrabbit33

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I know this is a common problem, but so far I did not find a solution to it.  The external monitors connected to my prodock via VGA and DVI blacks out every few seconds, especially during heavy usage. At first, I thought it was a power supply issue so I bought a 90W supply. Now the monitors stays on most of the time, but still blacks out every 10 minutes or so, even during standby with minimal power usage. Then I tried editing the integrated graphics settings, updating/rolling back graphics driver, flashing the docking station firmware with every version I can find, and switching to ubuntu on the other drive, but there wasn't a single combination of settings which would keep the external monitor on for more than an hour without blacking out/disconnecting.  So what should I do now?  System info:i7 5600u, 12G RAM, 16G + 128G ssd, 500G hdd, NO 940M, FHD IPS nontouch screen, Windows 10/Ubuntu 16.04Thinkpad Prodock 04A1, 45W/90W power supply. All USB and audio ports works perfectly. Both monitors are 1440x900 at 60Hz, works flawlessly when attached to laptop VGA port.

I have a T480 with Windows 10 Pro connected to a Dell U3415W monitor via a DisplayPort to HDMI cable via a 40AJ0135US Ultra Dock (DisplayPort side connected to the docking station, HDMI connected to the monitor).  While using this setup, I will occasionally (sometimes quite frequently) get black-outs in the monitor for a few seconds and then the display returns without issue.  Its extremely annoying and interrupts my work.  Often, restarting the laptop will help resolve it for a while but it always returns in some fashion. I have run the ThinkPad Docking Station FW updater and it said everything is up to date.  Additionally, Lenovo System Update is 100% updated.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When I connect my Thinkpad P50 to my external monitor (Samsung C34F741) directly using the mini Diplayport (connector on the side of the laptop) everything works fine. The resolution 3440x1440 @ 100 Hz and sound on the monitor speakers all work flawlessly. However, when I connect the same external monitor to the Displayport of the Lenovo Workstation Dock (using the same cable), the video works fine (same resolution and refresh rate as above), but the audio on the monitor speakers lags behind the video. The lag is at first barely noticable but increases as time passes, eventually getting out of sync a few seconds. I have the latest nVidia drivers and the latest Workstation Dock firmware installed. I am suspecting the external Displayport on the docking station is not capable of driving the high resolution at such a high refresh rate. Is there indeed a difference is specs between the laptop's Diplayport and the Docking station's Displayport? Can anyone offer any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone here can help me with my ever annoying problem. I have a T450s running on Windows 10 64-Bit. Latest Intel Drivers. I have an 40A2 Lenovo Ultra Dock. The following configuration is coming out of the dock into the monitors. Channel 1 - DisplayPort (dock) to Mini-DVI (monitor 1)Channel 2 - using DVI (dock) to DisplayPort (monitor 2) Channel 2 is not outputting any video signal at all. Intel's software is not recognising another monitor at all. Their DisplayPort Topology is showing 1 DisplayPort (this could be because the other is not connected). I've tried both display ports and they both work on either channels. I will be bringing in a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable shortly to try, but shouldn't my DVI to DisplayPort. Something is amiss and it's driving me nuts. Thanks,Ron

Hi,After updating to the JBET67WW 1.31 BIOS my mouse and trackpad cannot click on most UI elements in Windows 10 (1709) when connected to a ThinkPad Ultra Dock (40A2), some still works like minimize/maximize and close buttons on windows but most dont. I've tried to force a re-apply of the update but it is still having the same problem. Previously I used 1.30 without any problem, so the question is where can I get the files for 1.30 to do a downgrade?

I think of replacing my mbpr 15" with a T450s with Docking station. The macbook, despite being brand new and very expensive  gives me all kind of glitches in windows 7 like overheating, bluescreens when waking from standby, broken graphics support with the nvidia and 4K monitors, very long boot time, bad battery life, etc. So my bad luck with nvidia makes me feel wanting to go back to Intel Graphics. My Cad software supplier also recently revised his opinion on Intel Graphics, saying that the current chips and drivers work pretty well with Rhino. Also i realized that a quadcore which is constantly overheating and throttling under load isn't really better than a dualcore which has better turbo. And i miss the trackpoint and stiff keyboard pretty hard. As i don't want to dive into the next adventure, i want to make sure that a t450s can suit my needs. I have a brand new Dell P2715Q 4K Monitor and a docking station would be a nice addition. Can this work at 60hz (sst)  over the Docking station?Which dock do i need then, the onelink, basic, Pro or the Ultra?

A:Can the t450s drive a 4K60hz Monitor over the Dock...

it looks like t450s supports [email protected] only via mst, no sst support. This I think is limitation of the 5500 GPU.

Hi, Everyone. Got me a nice little x270 to replace my old x201.  Happy enough with the machine, but getting it connected to my accessories (monitor, keyb, mouse, ethernet) is a bit of a chore. This machine appears to have a "proper" dock port on the bottom.  Is there a compatible ultradock available for the model 20HN x270?  By proper - I mean, Not USB.  A nice dock I can simply drop the machine into when I'm at the home office.. Thanks!

I have a ThinkPad T580 with the Ultra Dock (40AJ0135US) and I'm wanting to use two external 4k monitors. I found this post (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/How-many-DisplayPorts-are-available-on-t...) that seems to indicate that this cannot be done, but it doesn't make sense since the dock utilizes two USB-C connections from the T580. Can a DP and USB-C on the dock be used for two 4k monitors? Is there any combination of ports that would allow the dock to support two 4ks? Will Lenovo be releasing a monitor compatibility matrix soon for their new laptop lineup, like this one: https://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/solutions/pd029622#USB-C%20dock ? I appreciate any help!

Hi.  I'm hoping I can get this resolved on this forum.I just got my system and am trying to connect my 3 external monitors.    My setup is as follows:Monitor 1 - laptop screen - works.Monitor 2 - HDMI out to HDMI in - worksMonitor 3 - DP out to HDMI in via a DP-HDMI cable.  - worksMonitor 4 - DP ou to DVI in via a DP-DVI adapter - doesn't work. I can't figure out how to make this work.I also tried this setup:Monitor 1 - laptop screen - works.Monitor 2 - VGA out to VGA in - worksMonitor 3 - HDMI out to HDMI in - worksMonitor 4 - DP out to HDMI in via a DP-HDMI cable.  - doesn't work. Incidentally in this configuration, when I closed the laptop screen this monitor worked.  Also on a related note, the Nvidia Quadro P500  is sitting idle as the Intel UHD 620 is doing all the work.  How can I control this? Thanks for any suggestions. Sal

A:Thinkpad P52S Ultra Dock and 3 External Monitors

As stayed in PSREF, P52s supports up to three independent displays. Laptop's screen includes in this limit, meaning you can use two external displays at that time. When you close the lid, you can use three external displays. To use more, you'll need some sort of USB adapter to increase such a limit. Regarding other question, you can't disable Intel GPU - it's always active and it's always controls screen output. NVIDIA's dGPU can be configured to be used in selected applications, making them to work with higher performance. P52 and P72 for sure have an ability to disable Intel iGPU, giving the control of screen output to dGPU. Probably P1 and/or X1 Extreme have the same feature too.

Hi Everyone, I'm looking for a suggestion with this super weird issue I'm having. So this is my current setup:ThinkPad T480s Type 20L8-S7MB00ThinkPad Ultra Docking Station Type 40AJ3x Lenovo ThinkVision P24q-10 monitors Type VTE02983 Monitor #1 is connected to the HDMI port on the dockMonitor #2 is connected to the DP port on the dock and on the miniDP on the monitorMonitor #3 is daisy chained on the DisplayPort to the DisplayPort of Monitor #2 Everything worked fine in the begining without any issues but a recently pushed critical firmware upgrade messed up the third monitor (the daisy chained) having to output a maximum of 1920x1200 screen resolution while the other two are getting up to 2560x1440. Before that, all three were getting up to 2560x1440.Nothing else has changed in the setup, I checked System Update and all drivers are up to date, restarted the laptop, undocked and docked it back in with no luck. Does anyone have any ideas on what I may try to get this back like it was? Thanks you very much in advance!

Hi,  I'm using a Lenovo P51 with M2200 graphic card and have a docking station 40A2. I wish to connect the two monitors to my docking station, one is VGA cable and another one is HDMI. When I dock my P51 to the docking station, the monitors could not be detected. I tried to configured my bios setting to discrete graphic setting but nothing changed. Try to put shared on dock display also but nothing works.  When I connected one of the monitor HDMI cable to the laptop directly without going through the docking station, it works perfectly but I could not connect the VGA cable monitor to the laptop without a converter and it defeat the purpose of having a docking station.  Anyone encounter this problem and has a solution for this problem?

I have just taken delivery of a T470p and have done a fresh install of Windows 10 Enterprise and updated that to version 1703 build 15063.540. The T470p replaces an aging X240. I used the X240 with a ThinkPad Ultra Dock type 40A2 (P/N SD20F82750) with 2 ThinkVision LT2452p monitors attached via DisplayPort. Everything worked reasonably fine with the X240 docked - both monitors ran at 1920x1200 resolution. I'd get the occasional problem where I'd have to open and close the X240's lid to force it to realise it was docked, but I could live with that. But...if I dock the T470p then neither monitor works. Both monitors' power LED turn green when I dock the laptop (so I assume the dock and the monitors are talking to one another) but they then turn orange and there isn't a picture on either monitor. If I unplug one of the DisplayPort cables from the Ultra Dock one of the monitors gets a picture, but as soon as I plug the cable back into the dock the monitor goes blank. Is this a known problem? My employer are about to order 40-50 T470p laptops but if we need to purchase new Ultra Docks as well I think we will have to have a rethink. Kind regards, /Neil

Checking to see if anyone has had this issue. We have 5 T570 20JW, running the most current verison of Windows 10Pro and since Yesterday (9/18/17), whenever a user undocks their laptop and then redocks it the external monitors do not turn back on and Windows does not recognize the 2 displays either. The only way we have been able to get them to show back up is to either reseat one or both of the monitor cables from the dock or put the laptop into sleep mode and then wake it backup using the docking station power button. It's not the displaying drivers causing the issue, at least not directly as we have tried the most current and the last release and neither fix the issue and as I stated this just started on 9/18 and the most current drivers are a few months old now. My only guess is that it's one of the 5 lenovo updates that where installed yesterday or the latest bios update (See the attached picture). I haven't had the chance yet to uninstall each of the 5 updates because I will need to go download the last version of each of them first, but wanted to see if any one else has had this happen and to forwarn anyone that has one to be careful with the most current updates. Thanks, Joseph

My company has issue me a Lenovo T470s and an Ultra Dock to replace my existing equipment. I have two external monitors connected to the docking station with display port cables. The problem that I am experiencing is that if the laptop is docked and the cover is open, I get video on the laptop display and one external monitor. The other external monitor gets no signal and goes to sleep. If I close the laptop cover, I get video on both external monitors. A co-worker told me that this was working as designed and that the solution for getting video on all three monitors was to connect one external monitor to one of the display ports and the other to the DVI port. (He hadn't tested this configuration and is using two display ports with the laptop cover closed.) I tried my coworker's suggestion and got the same result but prior to switching to DVI, I downloaded and installed the latest(?) driver for the HD Graphics 620 adapter from this website (lenovo.com) and that seemed to solve the problem (when using two display ports) but after shutting the laptop down, I had the same issue the next day. What I want, is to have the laptop cover open and still be able to use two external monitors and get optimal resolution on all three monitors. What's the best configuration for achieving this? (Don't guess, like my co-worker. Give me something you've tested and that you can confirm that it works.)

Fixed; was a driver issue. Problem seems exclusive to a Dell u2415 on DP port 1 only of the dock or to the laptop's DP port (at least for the couple monitors I tried). It's possible it could affect other monitors. My starting point: 9.18.13.4535 / 9.17.10.2843 (Nvidia /  Intel) The latest driver from Lenovo is 9.18.13.4535 / 8.15.10.2725. I'm not sure how i have a slightly newer Intel, but that's what it was. I couldn't install the Lenovo driver. I also couldn't install a newer driver from Intel (10.18.10.4276). In both cases Windows or the Intel installer stopped me saying the mfr provided the drivers and that the installed version was up to date. I worked around by first rolling back the Intel driver. The manual (.zip) install of the latest intel driver worked. This immediately fixed the Dell u2415 on DP port 1 and laptop's built-in DP port.

If I'm playing music through the laptop's speakers, as soon as I plug a cable into the dock's audio port no sound is heard. I can still use the laptop's audio port to connect external speakers, but that defeats the object of having an audio port on the Ultra Dock. I believe the driver of external speaker plugged into dock is well-installed and well-detected by the device managerI already set it as default audio output and can see the volume symbol up-and-down while testing it.I also had my T450 docked and the audio port from this Ultra Dock worked just as expected!! It seems everything works fine but still no sound can be heard when T470 is docked. Is it a bug when using Dock with T470 docked ??What do I need to do to get the Ultra Dock's audio port working?Anyone can help ?? Thanks a lot in advance!Kind regards,Jimmy

Hi everyone, A while ago I had trouble with my LCD. It would go black (at first only when I touched the bezel at the lower part, later it also turns black at random). Only sleep mode or newstart would solve this. I opened the notebook to check the cables. at some point the screen stayed black.A replacement screen + replacement cable does not solve it. But at startup the new screen lights up for a short moment, then is stays dark. I never got the old screen to work. Update: I got the new screen to work after fixing the screws and touchting the connector by accident, but it is very fragile. by touching either the lower part with the connections of the screws or any of the screws it flickers, shows stripes, (black and white or random colors) and sometimes goes back to full working screen. right now, after restart, one half of the screen works. the other half has stripes in different colors.  What could be wrong. Please help! Any idea what I could do? Nay help is very appreciated! Thanks a lot

I would like to connect two HP E202 monitors to the USB-C docking station for use with an Elite X2 computer. I see on HDMI connections and am not certain how to connect the second monitor. Can it be done, and if so what type of cable is needed?

Hi, I think it has DisplayLink sticker or DisplayLink Certified that means you can connect 2 monitors at the same time. It has DP port (6) and HDMI port (5) and you can use both             Side note: From your image, the dock price is US$149.00 + tax (says 7.5%) = around AU$210 but HP in Australia sells for AU$329              Amazing ! AU$100 more for HP Australia for a same product. May be HP has to ship the product from China to the US first then send first class air to Australia. Regards.

hi, I have setup one of my faculty with a Yoga 920131KB plus Thunderbolt 3 Dock. He has an existing monitor (Samsung Syncmaster P2450) that should support 1920x1080. Seems to be current on all drivers and patches under Win10 EDU version. (Including the CCG4 Firmware Update to v55). We are using the HDMI output from the dock. If we try to configure extended desktop to the Samsung monitor at 1920x1080, the screen extends off both sides about half an inch. Maybe also a quarter inch over at the top.  As a work-around, set at 1680x1050, video generally works as expected, but the display starts about 2" in from either side. Generally I don't like using add-on utilities (prefer to just use standard windows built-in options), but somewhere along the line this has the Intel Graphics HD Utility.  I was using that to switch resolution, the Windows settings seemed to track along with changes in the Intel utility, but still overscanned the display.  I played with some other settings in the utility about Display Scale (other than 100%), didn't seem to change anything. A second problem occurs with this setup: when the laptop is used at home, put to sleep, then plugged into the dock, the screen is displayed on the external monitor at maybe 200% (?).  That is, you only see the central portion of the image.  No fiddling with settings seems to correct it, but rebooting usually fixes it. The second problem also occurs with a similar Yoga 920 + Dock (d... Also wanted to mention something I noticed while working on this: I saved a log from the Intel Utility. There is a section in there about "Maximum Image Size". This seemed to be correct for the laptop display (12.2"x6.69") but the Samsung was listed at 6.3" x 3.54"    It is a 24" diagonal display, so that is obviously wrong, but I don't know that it is important. Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620 Report Date: Monday, February 5, 2018Report Time [hh:mm:ss]: 1:21:19 PMDriver Version: 23.20.16.4849Operating System: Windows* 10 Education (10.0.16299)Physical Memory: 16225 MBVendor ID: 8086Device ID: 5917Device Revision: 07Graphics Output Protocol (GOP) Version: 9.0.1066Current Resolution: 1680 x 1050 Display Type: DigitalDDC2 Protocol: SupportedGamma: 2.2Connector Type: DisplayPortDevice Type: DisplayPortMaximum Image SizeHorizontal Size: 6.3 inchesVertical Size: 3.54 inches

I have a new X1 Carbon Gen 6 with a Lenovo Thinkpad USB-C docking station. The dock is connected to an external monitor via DisplayPort cable and displays at the same quad HD resolution as the laptop display.  The problem I'm having is that when I plug the laptop into the dock and the external monitor goes on, the display is occasionally jittery for a while. Every few seconds it will jitter. Then it settles down after a while, maybe half an hour to an hour. Any ideas as to what's wrong? Is this a problem with the display adapter in the laptop? Thanks, - bill.

I thought there would be a selection for this somewhere but I've searched and can't find it, so sorry if a solution is obvious! Got a T470 and Ultra dock (not the USB one) with an external monitor connected via DVI and left in standby. I want to boot on the laptop only, and then I can extend to the external screen as needed.  Is this possible?  I was using a T61 in a dock before (with Windows10) and that defaulted to the laptop screen.

A:Can I boot in dock without external monitor turning on?

Hey Forum, Netflix refuses to recognize my external monitor as 4k capable. The 4K monitor is connected via the displayport on a Thunderbolt 3 dock that's connected to my X1Y3. The same monitor was recognized as 4K capable when it's connected to my desktop. Anything I need to change to make streaming 4K possible? Thanks a lot for your help! Jack

Just received a new X1 Yoga 2nd gen laptop with a USB-C dock (40A90090US) and I'm trying to run a three monitor setup.  Tried with the two built in display port connections and the laptop screen, but that's not working.  Currently have it running with one display port, the laptop screen, and the HDMI port on the laptop, but that's not ideal, having to plug in two cables.  I'd prefer to not use the VGA port, but would that be the only way to have two active external monitors coming from the dock in addition to the laptop screen?  Other option is that I could probably scrounge a third monitor, leave the laptop closed and run three monitors off the dock, though as near as I can tell, that dock doesn't support three live monitors.  Looks like I'd need to upgrade to the thunderbolt dock (40AC0135xx) for that to work, is that correct? Thanks for any input...

Loocking in the manual for Yoga 910, one the left side there are two usb-c ports.1. for charging2. for for docking to eg. Thinkpad USB C dock Looking in the manual for Yoga 920, for the same two USB C ports, marked "1", it says:1: AC power adapter jack/Type-C port (see attached picture) So it's not possible to have an external monitor on a Yoga 920 ? :-o We currently have a Yoga 910 with a Thinkpad USB C Ultra dock... but we cannot get it to work with both charging an a external monitor connected to the dock... it's only charging or only external monitor. The final question is:With a Yoga 920 and a Thinkpad USB C Ultra dock, will charging and external monitor work at the same time?

Hi, I own an EliteBook 8770w with docking station A7E32AA. I'd like to connect a ultra-widescreen external monitor (3440 x 1440). I was not able to find information whether such monitor can be connected to this laptop (via DisplayPort or DVI) using full resolution. Graphics chip AMD FirePro M4000 supports 4k resolution according to the specs. Does anyone have any experience with a simular setup? Thanks, Matej

Over the last few months I've had around 7 different occurances of a monitor not displaying anything while powered on and hooked up. This has happened with multiple makes and models of monitors and also laptops, even the connections are different in some cases whether it be VGA, VGA to Mini display, HDMI, or HDMI to Mini display. The only similarity of all the occurances is 2 monitors were used while this happened. Each time I've replaced all the adapters and cords to see if that would fix it. The only thing that seems to fix it, is to switch the monitor out with another one. This happened after the founders update for Windows. All PC's are using Windows 10 64 bit. Any help would be appriciated on this!

Hallo, ich habe seit einiger Zeit das Problem, dass der externe Monitor, der per DP an den Pro Dock und zum T460s angeschlossen ist, sporadische Aussetzer hat. Hello Everyone, I am new here so please go easy on me.I just bought and X1 Carbon 5th Gen laptop c/w Thunderbolt 3.0 docking station. The problem that I have is that the docking station won't recognise any of the external screens that are connected.I am using two Acer screens (one is connected using HDMI port on the dock and the other one uisng Display port).I have tried by connecting just one screen but nothing.I can see that Thunderbolt software is installed and its connected to my laptop. The laptop will charge through the docking station and also the wireless mouse and keyboard will work fine through the dock.Lenovo recommended that i should update my drivers. So I installed Lenovo Companion from Windows store. But it won't update my system. After clicking on System Update, I will get an error message saying "There is a problem in reteriving new updates for your system. Please try again later".Hence I downloaded all the drivers from support website and installed them manually but my docking station is still not working with the external monitors. The monitors works fine when connected directly to the laptop using the HDMI cable. Thanks in advance for your help.
