I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi there to who ever may be reading.

First of all thanks for taking a look at my issue, the problem as follows :

It shuts down (ie turns off, need to manually press the power button to boot up again) when getting to windows xp desktop.

what i have tried so far:
complete reformat windows xp home

complete reformat windows xp pro

taken the battery out of the motherboard for 30 secs then putting it back in(sometimes this works and it did for a while inabling me to install some softwarelike mobo drivers then after
reboot the problem persisted)

Following that i have tried different batterys and no battery at all each not solving the issue

started in safe mode and installed service pack 3

cleaned processor and heat sink

tried different psu

tried different hard drive (with fresh install)

I originally thought it would be a power issue but i have left it on overnight in safe mode as a test and it never shut down. It only seems to shut down in normal mode! i thought it might be a software issue but i have reinstalled it with different discs and different versions.

I dont think it is a hardware issue as it doesnt turn off when in safe mode, but then i dont think its a software issue because of the multiple clean installs that i have done. So i really dont know.

Please, sombody put me out of my misery. . . . What is wrong with my computer!

Try just click once the power button of your computer, it should shutdown.
If that doesn't work take a look at the Energy Setting (Located at Control Panel)
You should not uninstall the graphics drivers you will need them, a computer without any graphic drivers is useless

Hi Guys,

I just decided to search online and was directed here. I've been facing three problems lately:

1. Display suddenly gets distorted and if unattended starts beeping.
2. The laptop keeps processing in background and without warning suddenly shuts off.
3. When power button is pressed to boot, lights come on but does not boot up.

Before venturing to reinstall the OS (which means reinstalling all the software I have..), I thought the problem might be something simpler.

As mentioned above, I'm presently working on my laptop in Safe Mode. I'm not using an Antivirus and haven't used one for the past 4 years. So wondering if these are symptoms of Malware too. The fan seems to be working fine and I'm using a flat table too.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

about two weeks ago my computer started shutting down every hour or so after my son began using the modem to hook his xbox to the internet. The computer would be unhooked from the modem and the xbox hooked up then when I needed the internet we'd unhook the xbox and reconnect the computer and reboot the modem so I could connect. At first it was about an hour before it would shut down but the time got shorter and shorter. Now I can only start the computer in safe mode. When I try a normal start up it shuts down before I can put the password in to log on to windows. The modem is a motorola SB5101 cable modem. The computer operating system is XP Home version 2002 service pack 3. Already cleaned all the dust from inside the case, fans are running, went through the event logs, and corrected the time and date to current. It runs fine in safe mode and safe mode with internet. But when I try a normal start it still shuts down.

However i am able to boot in safe mode with no problem and it runs just fine in safe mode. It is a custom built machine with a recently replaced PSU, (2 years old on the psu).

I am not sure what to do or what info you need, so if you ask i will post it

Hello Bleeping Computer.

I'm running Windows 7 Home, 32-Bit

This morning I was infected with a fake FBI warning message:

"This PC (Windows 7, 32-Bit) is blocked due to at least one of the reasons specified below..."

I powered down, then attempted to reboot in Safe Mode.  It wouldn't restart in Safe Mode, instead it restarted in Normal Mode, the screen went blank white, then redirected to the same fake FBI Warning message.  I'm unable to proceed beyond this fake FBI warning screen.

I have access to a clean PC and external USB flash drive, and with your help I'm ready to follow your detailed instructions to remove this infection.

Many thanks in advance!

A:ICE Ransomware Locked PC - Safe Mode shuts down PC

I use Hitman. Load it on USB, boot from USB (make sure your connected to the internet). It will scan and tell you which files are infected. Look for the one thats set to run after boot. Write down the file name as well as the location (Probably be in C:\users\USERNAME\App Data\Roaming) Then go into Startup Repair, select Other Options, Command Prompt, navigate to the file's folder, then rename the file's extension to VRS. (code is 'ren C:\*\*\*\FILE.EXE C:\*\*\*\FILE.EXE.VRS' where * is the path you have written down). Then reboot and run Malwarebytes or other AV/spyware application.

Typed that from memory, so I may have left out a step

I've been tasked to help fix someone's laptop. I forget exactly what problems they said they have, so I'll tell you what I see so far.Toshiba laptop, XP MCE SP2. MBAM installs, but will not update or run properly. In both cases, the program's window disappears abruptly after a few seconds, even in safe mode. SuperAntispyware runs, and did find a couple of things to remove, but now passes clean. TrendMicro's Housecall dies with an error box (I forget the error at this point). I also removed the hard drive and hooked it up via a USB kit to another computer to scan with AVG, and it found one file to remove. Mcafee software is installed, and is a pain to turn off, but I finally managed to do so, and the problem remains.I'll try to find out more about what the owner thinks is wrong with it, but the fact that MBAM still won't run bothers me and makes me wonder if there's something still present that I've missed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There were a few moments where I could do things but generally it was just freezing so I logged and tried again. After I logged in again I set up msconfig to safe mode and it restarted in safe mode. Nothing is running hot or above temperatures, ran a "Reimage" report to analyze hardware as well, and other than the fact its low on space (80gig Hard drive with 25 gig's of space)evrything checks out. Computer is clean, heat paste/heat sink is perfect, and everything is seated properly. The reason I think this might be virus related or bios related is this problem has occured now on two machines that are networked and share a internet connection. It started on our first machine as a simple mouse/keyboard freeze. Each time had to hard restart. It got more frequent, till it would do shut downs randomly. Now it is occuring on this machine which is what I am posting about. (both have occured within the same month time frame) It has started also doing freezes. Hi -

Unfortunately, I recently went to a website and contracted some trojan and tracking viruses . Then Windows XP system program would not run anymore in normal mode after that. Computer will only allow me to go into "safe mode" or "safe mode with networking". In the "safe mode with networking", computer will allow me to get connected to internet, but only for a few minutes, before restarting automatically. If I choose option to start computer in "Normal mode", computer will just continuallly restart (Windows XP never gets to run on "normal mode"). Used AVG Anti-Spyware to quarantine and delete viruses in "safe mode", but still have the same problem.

Will run Hijack This & Smit Fraud Fix and post logs here - but will be in "safe mode with networking".

Someone PLEASE help me! THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE!!

Problem: I can't get into safe mode to run Smitfraudfix.exe because my computer shuts down by itself.

So I have or had Anti-vermins on my computer (malware right?). Every where i read told me to download Smitfraudfix.exe, boot up in Safe-mode and run it. Here is my problem. I boot up in Safe mode, pick the user i want, then when it asks me if i want to proceed in safe mode I say yes and soon after (seconds) the computer turns off before i get a chance to run Smitfraud. After this, I start the computer over and over again and it won't proceed into windows because it turns off by itself right after the Windows xp logo picture shows. After i let it sit for a while (10-20 minutes) i try again and it boots up fine.

I have a Toshiba Satellite with a 3.1 GHZ pentium 4 and i know these things tend to overheat; however, this problem will happen even when I turn it on after sitting over night. Provided i Try to boot up in Safe-mode. Help if you can and i will appreciate it.

I'm pretty sure i have some virus that norton's isn't detecting cause whenever I try to scan in safe mode, my laptop shuts off for no reason and won't turn back on unless i wait for about a minute. Ad-aware isn't helping either. I also got a meesage from norton's that i tried to hijack someone the other day. ( see norton1.jpg)
It might be irrelevant, but i also keep getting errors with COM surrogate caused by urge.dll, even though i can't find urge.dll on my computer.

I've got windows vista service pack 1

On boot up, while showing the pulsing Windows 7 logo, my computer stops.  Screen goes black then says "No signal", case fans stop, HD light shows no activity, ctrl+alt+del does nothing, reset button does nothing.  Starts fine on Safe Mode.  No recent hardware or software changes.  OS - Windows 7 Ultimate.  Any thoughts?

Thanks

A:Computer shuts down during normal boot but not safe mode

Sounds like a driver or system setting in Normal mode is corrupt.

I assume you're describing a complete system shutdown.

I would check your Update history to see if you have any recent Windows Updates that may coincide with this issue. Perhaps a failed update?

First try going into msconfig and deselecting all Startup items (Not Services). Then try booting into Normal mode.

Worst case at this point would be a system restore.

My Gateway Desktop has been messed up for some time now. It wont start normally while loading and XP logo is displayed it shuts off. It will only start in safemode. It wont let me do a system restore either. When I try to put the restore disc in it shuts off as well. When all else failed I tried to reformat the whole hard drive but to no avail still shuts of during format. Here is what the event viewer says: Event ID 7026 , "The following boot -start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: AFD, AmdK8, eeCtrl, Fips, IP Sec, MRxSmb, NetBIOS, Netbt, RasAcd, Rdbss, sptd, Tcpip

Boot off of the Windows Disc Or download the Recovery Console ISO. Burn it to CD with IMGBurn Boot off of the CD and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.
You can also download the ISO image for Seatools, or WD DataLifeGuardin my signature and burn the image to a CD using IMGBurn also in my signature and boot off of the newly created CD and run the Quick and Advanced tests on the HDD to test the integrity of the drive.

Hi guys,

I'm new here and so, a big hello to all you "veterans" on this site. I hope to learn from you guys as I go along.

So here is my problem:-

My laptop started up in safe mode randomly and just went along. I tried to do a System Restore but then it shut down suddenly. I booted it up again and this time, the laptop lasted shorter than usual. I have also tried other options, like "Last Known Good Configuration" and "Startup Repair".

When I click on "Startup Windows Normally", it still goes into safe mode. I've tried doing a few things in safe mode and even that does not work. I tried going into Device Manager etc and there is no time to do anything as the laptop just dies off.

Methinks that it could be a hardware problem but has anyone had this problem before? If so, how did you guys get around to solving it?

All help will be much appreciated. Thanks for your time guys.

I'm having a strange issue. When I boot into safe mode, both through normal means (f8) and through forced shutdowns (holding power button), I'm unable to get it. I get to the login page, but the computer then just shuts down. Sometimes I'm able to enter password, sometimes no. The screen just goes black and then I see it booting up again.

I've tried windows startup repair, I've tried sfc /scannow and I've tried chkdsk, all say there are no issues with the drives. Any ideas?

hi, i am having trouble wth my computer. i don't know much about computer. actually if i want to restart it, it keep showing me "Warning! Now system is in safe mode. Please re-setting CPU frequency in CMOS setup." but if i plug off the power supply cable, and put it back, the warning was gone. but, then if i wanna restart it again, that warning will appear again..
so could anyone help me what should i do with this problem ?

thank you...

A:Warning! Now system is in safe mode. Please re-setting CPU frequency in CMOS setup.

The battery on the motherboard is probably dead. It's a coin-shaped and -sized silver metal lump on your computer's motherboard. Pry it out (make sure the computer is off and make sure you don't break anything) and take it to your local electronics/computer/watch store. They should be able to give you a replacement.

I own a gateway notebook as my secondary machine but since I sold my workhorse it should be my main machine this week before I buy a couple new macs and transfer this buddy to my mom, as of this morning I tried to wipe off the ATI HD3200 driver and update it as the scaling options were not showing up but after I got the old driver off I tried rebooting the system and started to have problems, now I can only boot in safe mode and it shuts down abruptly after some time (does not come back up if I don't press the power button), I used driver sweeper to get rid of the old driver.

Help would really be appreciated!

Can you go back using Restore Point before you use Driver Sweeper. I got a feeling that removed needed drivers. You could also go back farther than that.

I suddenly had a virus that started to run 'AntiVirus Live' and would not allow me to open up any of my applications. After it was done scanning for infections it asked if I wanted to remove them, and upon clicking yes took me to a bogus site to pay for the program. It shut off my AntiVir so I decided to restart my computer in safe mode. If I try to put it in safe mode, the computer bluescreens and shuts off. If I allow it to reboot itself, it gets to my password entry page and bluescreens and shuts off. What on earth do I do now??

A:Computer will not even turn on, shuts off in safe mode-- Viruses unknown

If this is a desktop PC and you have a working desktop handy, pull the infected hard drive and slave it on to the known working desktop. Run scans with Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware, clear what they find and then if possible scan the drive with your antivirus software as well. That's what I would do.....

Hello.

A few months ago my computer was doing terribly and, after coming to this forum and following the advice, my computer was fixed (I had a rootkit infection.) Since then I've taken to all the preventative measures recommended in the thread - installing Web of Trust, Spyware Blaster, and ERUNT; avoiding sketchy sites; and updating Windows regularly. I try to restrict my music-downloading to websites that are trustworthy as well.

Somehow my computer has gotten much worse over the past two weeks. It will only operate in safe mode, shuts off randomly, performs very slowly, freezes constantly, and has no sound. Virus scans occasionally work - ESET found five Trojans...

Below is the DDS copy and the attached folder contains the art.txt and attach.txt. I really apologize for being a repeat poster here.

Thanks in advance for any and all help and suggestions.

I had a bad virus on my computer and I wanted to boot it into safe mode. So I tried and everytime I tried it wouldn't work. I kept getting this message on a blue screen saying my video driver failed to initialize and it shut down automatically but it would boot up normal if I didn't try to go into safe mode.

So I read that you could set your computer to automatically boot into safe mode from msconfig so I went in and set it to boot into safe mode automatically every time I powered up. So I turned off my computer and tried to.

No matter what I do, no matter what option I select the blue screen with the error about my video driver comes up and it shuts down automatically.

What can I do to fix this? Anything? Is there a way to change the way my computer starts back up (to normal becuase the normal startup doesn't work) from before windows loads or away to access a DOS window or something?

I'm using XP home btw

I cannot even boot into the Windows XP CD. I put it in my CD drive and powered on and it didn't work. The F8 menu still comes up and nothing I change still works.

I changed the bios to boot from the CD drive but it still presented me with the same F8 menu which still takes me to the blue screen error about the video driver.

I pressed F2 when it started up and moved the CD drive up to number 1 from the boot setting then I pressed Esc and saved and exited. Then when I restarted nothing had changed

Thanks for any help

About the only thing I can tell, for the future. NEVER use the SAFE BOOT in the Msconfig. You can get caught in cycle, like this, and you can not get out of.

Hi everyone

I am having trouble with one of our laptops. I was running a few virus scans the other day as I realized it there was Google Redirections, fake virus security centers, and security center pop ups in the system tray. A fake virus center kept popping up as a program on the computer, and the internet would not work when this was open.

I tried to run more scans but nothing would open, no programs, no task manager, etc. in order to fix this. Nothing was working, so I shut off the computer. This was a big mistake as when I went to turn it on, it will not boot. It goes into an endless reboot state and flashes a blue screen for a second, not long enough for me to read, before it goes back into rebooting.

None of the safe mode options work, and Last Known Configuration option does not work, the computer just endlessly reboots and will not start up. I really need to get this fixed, as we purchased a warranty for the laptop, but they will not work at all.
I have tried everything and nothing seems to be working, the computer will just not boot up.

I burned an ISO of Puppy Linux after reading about this online and I could boot to that from the CD, from there I could see everything was still intact on my hard drive but it still will not boot windows. I thought about getting an external hard drive enclosure to take the stuff from that drive and put it onto another computer until I can get this fixed.

I am running out of things to try and hope someone can help. thank you.

Could you please tell us what your OS is, main antivirus program , and exactly which scans you were running (have tried to run). That might give appropriate information to know what to suggest for you

Hello!

Yesterday, as I was surfing the net using google chrome, Some funny things started happening with the screen - text was moving around, and the right part of the start menu was moving a lot. It also happend inside a microsoft word document - when I marked a text using the mouse - the text started moving around...

I tried shutting the computer using the start menu, but when I tried clicking "restart" or "turn off", it automatically clicked the "standby" button.

I just restarted the computer manually and tried to go to safe mode, but when I got to the part where you choose which kind of safe mode you want - the keyboard wouldn't respond.

the second time wondows started it still did those funny stuff with the screen, but now it doesn't do that anymore.

so the symptoms now are:
1)
browser gets stuck, and then when I try to close it and open a new window - computer restarts.
2)
I still can't go to safe mode because the keyboard doesn't work as soon as I get to the part where I have to choose which mode I want.

I scanned the computer using norton eset antivirus, and also panda scanner, but both found nothing.

I am attaching the scan logs as required...
Thanks in advance for any kind of help,

Kal

This is the main reason your computer is infected. Visiting cracksites/warezsites - and other questionable/illegal sites is always a risk.

Even a single click on the site can drop multiple forms of very serious malware, many of which disable your onboard protection, and System Restore.

If you install the cracked software, you are running executable files from these dubious, unknown sources. You are in effect giving these sources access to information on your hard disk, and potential control over the operation of your computer.

Additionally, cracked programs are illegal. Before posting for help, uninstall any such applications.

Referring to the Forum Rules which you should have read at the time of Registering at this forum, TSF does not support illegal activity. As such, be advised that any request for assistance in removing malware may go unanswered, or may be discontinued, if the cracked (illegal) software is still present on the machine.

In 2006, a study revealed that 59% of keygens and crack tools downloaded from peer-to-peer networks contained malicious or "unwanted" software.

Over the past few days, my computer has been experiencing high CPU usage. Upon attempting to perform a Malwarebytes scan in safe mode, I would find the computer has somehow shut down automatically during the scan. Since I would leave the computer unattended, I am not sure if any particular detections occur prior to the shutdown. The same thing also occurs when I perform a SuperAntiSpyware scan during safe mode. I am using Windows 7 as the operating system if that helps, in case it's an issue with the OS.

I got this stupid malware problem yesterday, the infamous Windows Warning Message malware, and I had originally run TrendMicro in safe mode and was able to remove about 7 trojans/viruses from the computer. Then I re-ran TrendMicro and was given a clean bill of health. Then when I restarted my computer in regular mode, I was automatically logged off after I typed in my logon password. I then retried to run my PC in safe mode, and I was logged off again. How can I further get rid of this darn virus if I cannot log into Windows to run anything??? Thanks for the help!

I'm new here and in hopes of getting this resolved. I just installed the new Norton Systemworks 2005 and rebooted after installation. When the boot screen got up to the blue screen with the Windows XP logo before displaying the login names where you put in your password, it just stops. I restarted a few times and waiting a few more times thinking it may need to 'finish' installing. But each time gave the same results. Finally, I went in with 'Safe Mode' and got in with no problems. Tried again in normal mode after looking around for any obvious problems (none found)... back to square one. Tried again in 'Safe Mode with Networking' and it failed like normal mode so I suspected a networking problem??? The last thing I tried which made me mad is that I tried to uninstall Norton Systemworks in 'Safe Mode' and that failed!! Anyone in these forums know the cure? :dead:

A:Unable to get to login screen, works in Safe Mode but in Safe Mode w/ Networking

Just a thought

Safe-Mode
Start \ Run \ msconfig \ diagnostic startup
disable any services attached to your most recent install and restart
should get warning next boot about using msconfig, its ok
One key service that needs to be available is the installer service
Try the uninstall, if doesn't complete
Try the uninstall string in the registry only if you know what you are doing

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Under it you will see a list of installed programs. Some don?t show up as words but you can figure out what they are by looking at their values. What you are looking for is the uninstall string. Double click that key as if you were going to modify its value. Do a CTRL + C to copy and then exit the registry editor.

Go to START \ RUN and paste the uninstall sting and hit enter. This should launch the uninstall.

Just a thought though as I am not infront of a test system at the moment. You should research this a little further so you have a clear understanding of what you can and can't do with msconfig.

or simpler yet

Safe-Mode

Start \ Programs \ Access. \ System Tools \ System Restore

Select restore point prior to install of whats giving you the problem.

Again, Good Luck

PS If you try to install it again, turn of antivirus and other open programs etc..

i have windows home xp edtion on parkard bell.in safe mode it is fine, but when on normal bootup mode it will hang up after 2mins aprox(then restart saying crit error, check hardware etc and being to dump files kernel),on a blue screen.

i tried a different graphics card, but no joy.so i replaced the hdd drive and put a fresh copy of windows xp pro edtion on,but it loads all the files(i have not pressed f6)i just let it run its course on the disc, then it hangs up on the blue screen again with the words(crit error 0x0000007f)check hardware etc and if this is the first time you have seen it try starting windows again.

Thankyou for all your time.

A:Solved: xp safe in safe mode fine...mormal mode blue screen

Start in Safe Mode and look in C:\Windows\Minidump for crash log files with a dmp extension, like Mini071008-01.dmp. Zip 4-5 of the latest ones and post here as a ZIP or RAR attachment. The log file contains information useful to determine what caused the error, most likely hardware.
